7MIP - Chapter 52

When Agatha went to the reception room, the captain of the guard was waiting with a servant from the city hall.

“Lord Bailey. It’s been a while.”

“Congratulations on your victory, Marchioness.”

The captain of the guard held out the Emperor's invitation with a good-natured smile on his face.

“Your Majesty invites you to have lunch together,” he said.

“I guess the rumors have already spread.”

Agatha, who was looking at the invitation, checked the time. It was already almost noon.

Agatha opened her mouth, remembering when the Emperor's lunchtime was.

“Is it true that His Majesty said we should have lunch together today?”

“His Majesty said he’ll wait,” he said.

There was a reason why the captain of the guard came in person and not just an ordinary attendant.

Agatha sighed deeply and handed the invitation to her maid.

“I’ll get ready right away, so please wait a moment.”

“Yes, Marchioness.”

As time was running out, the maids got busy. Jessie picked out clothes and Marie fixed Agatha's makeup.

“What dress would you like to wear?”

Agatha chose one of the dresses Jessie had picked out. It was a pretty empire dress in a soft pink.

“I’ll lift your hair.”

She had her hair done and wore earrings made of green diamonds.

“It's all done.”

The maids worked together as one, doing their best to speed things up. As a result, the make-up was completed in less than an hour.

“Thank you all for your hard work.”

Agatha looked at herself in the mirror and nodded.

“I'll be back.”

True to his word, the Emperor postponed lunch.

Agatha sat in the Emperor's private dining room and cast a slightly impertinent glance at him.

“Why are you calling me so urgently?”

If he had to see her today, he could have called her at dinner instead of lunch.

If not, he should have sent the messenger earlier.

The slightly stung Emperor coughed slightly.

“I sent Lord Bailey as soon as I received news of Marquis Aratus’s victory.”

The Emperor raised his glass to Agatha.

“I thought you couldn’t just let your first victory pass you by.”

As if he had been waiting, the Emperor's chamberlain placed a huge cake on the table.

On top of the white whipped cream, there was a gorgeous icing that looked like a firework.

Agatha smiled helplessly.

“Thank you, Your Majesty.”

This victory was also significant for the Emperor.

Even if it was a divorce, the threat of assassination by relatives was against the Emperor's will.

The Emperor couldn't stop smiling happily while the attendant cut the cake and placed it on a plate.

“It was a good decision to choose Marquis Aratus. This time, you chose a really good man.”

Excessive praise, which Agatha had never received before, continued.

“He is indeed a war hero. I like how he handles things so well.”

Now, there will be kidnapping threats, but the threat of assassination will be greatly reduced.

“I am glad that my choice has satisfied Your Majesty.”

“Now stop being so shut up and come out. It is at times like this that you need to show off your achievements.”

'You called me to say this.'

Agatha was quick to perceive the Emperor's intentions. The victory was good, but it seemed that he judged that Enoch had stayed in the mansion for too long under the pretext of going on a campaign.

Agatha took a bite of the cake topped with a generous amount of cream. The fruit flesh hidden in the sweet cream was crunchy.

It was a peach.

“I was already planning to start preparing for the fall social scene.”

Before they knew it, autumn was just around the corner.

It seems like Enoch's return won't be long, so they should prepare.

If she hadn't come to the palace, she might have gone to Madame Charlotte's dressing room by now.

The moment Agatha elegantly lifted the cake again, the Emperor clicked his tongue.

“Will that be enough? Instead, why don’t you help prepare for the upcoming palace ball?”

It was a suggestion that she couldn't help but laugh at when she heard it.

There was one more reason why the Emperor called her today.

“Are you talking about the palace ball?”

Agatha put down her fork and wiped her mouth with a napkin. The cake wasn't the issue right now.

“Her Majesty the Empress and Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess are both here, so how could I possibly help prepare for the palace ball?”

“Aren’t you, my goddaughter? You are more than qualified.”

“Still, it is the first palace ball of the fall. It is enough for me to attend, Your Majesty.”

Even if others did not know, the Emperor knew the details of the battle of honor.

It would be natural since the revocation of the title and even the unofficial execution were carried out with the tacit approval of the Emperor.

In any case, it was said that the Emperor knew that there was discord between the Marquis Aratus and his wife.

'Come to think of it, didn't the Emperor say he wanted stability now?'

Agatha remembered a letter she had once received from Crown Prince Anthony Roxiba.

It was clear that the Emperor, who wanted the two to settle down, was trying to make it difficult for them to break off their relationship by linking them to the affairs of the imperial family, as Enoch was serious about protecting Agatha to the point of fighting a territorial war.

Of course, there is no chance that the relationship will break down now.

'No matter what, this isn't it.'

It was not a wise choice to get too involved in the royal family's affairs.

Besides, it was no easy task to get involved between the Empress and the Crown Princess.

“Your Majesty, there will be nothing to worry about in the future. If he had been in the capital, wouldn’t there have been a successor long ago?”

They have confirmed each other's feelings. There is no need to consider an ending like the previous marriage.

“Is that true?”

The Emperor opened his eyes wide as if he had understood correctly.

“Of course. So, can I just think about attending the palace ball?”

“Yes! Do as you wish. By the way, when do you think there will be a successor? Huh?”

“My husband is still a long way from home. Please give him strength so that he can return home early when he does.”

“That’s right! Don’t worry about that. I’ll take care of everything.”

Yes. Agatha raised her hand slightly and called the attendant.

“I think there’s enough cake. May I stop eating now, Your Majesty?”

“Let’s do that.”

“Yes. I will bring it out right away, Your Majesty, Marchioness.”

After enjoying a hearty meal prepared by the royal chef to suit her taste, Agatha left the palace.

First Vice-Captain Leon Takran, who had been waiting outside, escorted Agatha.

“Would you like to go to the mansion?”

“While I’m out here, I should go to the costume shop. Let’s go to Madame Charlotte’s costume shop.”

"All right."

As they boarded the carriage, the knights formed a strict guard formation as usual.

It was a short walk from the palace to Madame Charlotte's dressing room.

A three-story building with an old-fashioned signboard fluttering in the wind.

At the entrance, Madame Charlotte was there to greet them with a big smile.

“Welcome, Lady Agatha. Congratulations on your husband’s victory.”

“Thank you, Madam.”

As a source of information that covered all levels of society, Madame Charlotte also knew of Enoch's victory.

Agatha entered the empty VIP room on the third floor, where she was welcomed by Madame Charlotte.

“I wonder if I should bring out champagne instead of tea.”

Madame Charlotte's eyes arched gently as she served tea with a smile.

“I have already had some wine. His Majesty called me and congratulated me first.”

“Oh, I see. I heard the news. I heard that His Majesty summoned Madam as soon as he heard the news of victory.”

“It’s a blessing.”

It was a bit awkward to call without time to prepare, but for a while, the social circles would be filled with stories of Enoch's victories.

That was quite a pleasant experience. Agatha opened her mouth to drink the refreshing lemon tea that Madame Charlotte had brought out.

“The war is going well and he will probably return before the real fall season, so I think I’ll start preparing for the fall social scene.”

“You didn’t have much to match last time. That’s a good idea. I just happened to have a lot of good fabrics coming in for the new social season.”

At Charlotte's gesture, the costume shop staff immediately started bringing out fabrics.

It was a new type of fabric, unlike anything she had seen before.

“I wonder if Madame Agatha’s harsh criticism has spread, as all the products released by the top have become brighter in color since then.”

“That’s good news.”

Since Agatha going to wear it in early fall, she didn't want the color to be too heavy.

She also had to think about how it would match Enoch's outfit.

'What color did he like?'

Enoch mostly preferred achromatic colors.

Instead, he chose colorful shirts and crocheted shirts, and he often wore them with elaborate embroidery depending on the situation.

Thanks to this, Agatha was able to easily choose fabrics with strong colors.

“This red color looks nice.”

The fabric that Agatha chose was a rose-tinted pink.

The mysterious hue between red and pink will make her sunny blonde hair shine even more.

“I think this peach color would suit you well too.”

Madame Charlotte recommended a similar but slightly different shade, a lovelier shade of pink than the one she had chosen earlier.

After choosing a lot of brightly colored fabrics, Agatha chose some darker colored fabrics to create a more atmospheric look.

Suddenly, she remembered the fabrics on the top of the Neuta that she had seen when she had just returned from her honeymoon.

The solemn and heavy fabrics that didn't suit the season might have looked quite acceptable in the hunting grounds where the leaves were falling.

'Perhaps it was made with that time in mind.'

On the day of the palace ball, it seemed like it was time to check on the things Agatha had asked of her close associates.

The task has been decided.
