Queen Of Villains - Chapter 79

Now, all the employees at Starr Mansion know that Killian is planning to divorce Emily.

While everyone was making a fuss, Emily looked surprisingly relaxed and calm.

'This has finally reached the madam's ears.'

Alvin closed his eyes tightly.

And he cursed Messina, the mastermind behind this. He had intended to take care of it himself before it reached .adam's ears, but his crazy boss ended up making things worse.

“Alvin, I am ashamed.”

And Roxy, who had brought the culprit into the house, knelt on the floor.

“Get up. It’s over.”

Alvin asked Chili.

“How is your condition now, Madam?”

“She hasn’t said anything about this, and it’s the same as usual.”

“That’s even scarier.”

At that moment, Ivan, who was outside, ran in.

“Al, Alvin!”

“Oh my, I’m surprised! What the hell are you doing making such a fuss about!”

“The carriage carrying the boss is coming in now.”

“It was meant to be.”

The atmosphere was already unsettled, and even Killian was returning to the mansion.

“Alvin, there is nothing we can do anymore.”

Chili said in a cool voice.

“From now on, I have to leave the work up to you two.”

Chili's theory was that meddling in the situation unnecessarily could lead to a bigger conflict. In the end, Alvin, with a look of resignation, went out to greet Killian.

“Are you here?”

As soon as Killian got out of the carriage, he was met by Alvin, who greeted him with a sullen expression.

But these days, Alvin has been treating him coldly ever since he heard about the divorce, so Killian hasn't given it much thought.

“Nothing special happened?”

"Nothing happened? Yes, something happened. And it was a very big deal."

The words were on the tip of Alvin's tongue, but he forced himself to calm down.

“Lord Killian.”

Alvin called out to Killian, who was casually walking past him and trying to enter the mansion.

"What?"

“The lady knew everything.”

"..What?"

The near-assassination? Or the hiding of news about the Duke of Sadie and the Crown Prince? Or the time he stole John's handkerchief?

“I mean divorce.”

"Ah."

Only then did the rapidly racing thoughts in Killian's head stop.

'So you figured it out after all.'

Killian swallowed a sigh.

“What did Madam say?”

“She didn’t say anything in particular.”

That's a slightly unexpected reaction.

“Shouldn’t you meet the madam?”

“...That’s how it should be.”

Even though it was coming, his heart pounded with nervousness. Killian forced himself to remain calm as he went upstairs to where Emily was.

Emily, who had just heard that Killian had arrived home, was coming out to meet him.

“Are you here?”

Just as Alvin had said, Emily looked completely unfazed.

“Did you eat out for dinner today, too?”

“Madam, have you eaten yet?”

“I waited to eat together.”

Even though he had already eaten, there was an air of utter indifference that made it impossible to refuse Emily's offer. Killian's throat twitched violently.

“Then I will change my clothes and come down.”

“Yes, I’ll go down first.”

Emily's voice sounded particularly firm today.

Alvin clearly said Emily was like usual, but she wasn't like usual at all.

He's been in countless battlefields, but he's never been this nervous. No, Killian was more scared than when Emily, so calm, faced the mafia, intent on killing him.

Emily looked at Killian absentmindedly as he entered the dining room with heavy steps and nodded to the chair opposite her.

"Have a seat. I told them to keep dinner light tonight. I don't think you'll be eating much either."

“Yes, it’s okay.”

Killian walked over and sat down across from Emily.

As soon as he sat down, Mayo and Alvin immediately served him his food. They gave Killian a silent, almost scolding look.

“...Then enjoy your meal.”

As Mayo and Alvin left, having served all the food, a suffocating silence descended.

How much time had passed like that? Emily, who had been eating in silence for a while, opened her mouth.

“Someone came and went today and said something strange.”

At those words, Killian's hands, which were cutting meat, stopped.

By the way, who brought up divorce to Emily?

“Who came?”

Killian asked in a somewhat urgent voice.

“That doesn’t really matter. What she said is what matters.”

Emily took a sip of her wine, still exuding a cool air.

“She said something like you were preparing to divorce me.”

Emily set down her glass and met Killian's eyes.

“Seeing as there’s no word, I guess it’s really true.”

After a moment of silence, Killian nodded.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“It would have been better if you had told me that directly instead of letting me hear it through someone else.”

Killian was speechless at Emily's sharp words.

Emily felt uneasy watching Killian panic. Messina had explained the reasons for his decision, so she understood his situation.

Killian simply made that decision to protect her.

But she was upset that he hadn't talked to her enough before making such an important decision.

Being trained by Cezanne and interacting with other Starr members were all due to her will to live with Killian.

Emily was deeply disappointed that Killian made his own decision without realizing that she was willing to take the risks that would come.

“I don’t know why you married me.”

Every word Emily uttered pierced Killian's heart like a knife.

"Don't try to take all the risks yourself. That'll only make things worse."

Finally, Emily pulled a letter out onto the table.

“They say they’re holding a carrot festival in the Sinope territory.”

Killian looked at Emily with a puzzled expression.

"I'll go down to the estate. Please send the divorce papers here as soon as they're finalized."

"Ah."

Even though he was the one who tried to get a divorce first, Killian slumped his shoulders with a gloomy expression as if she had divorced him.

“Then finish your meal. I’ll go up first.”

Emily gathered the letters back up on the table and walked out of the dining room without hesitation.

In the space left alone, Killian sat there blankly for a long time.

Even if she knew what he was going to do, would Emily still be able to stay by his side? Killian shook his head.

That was something he couldn't do to Emily either.

***

“I tried to help, but the atmosphere is a bit off.”

Messina rolled her pen with an embarrassed face.

Even though he learned that it was Messina who had brought up the divorce with Emily, Killian didn't even have the will to be angry with her. He couldn't blame Messina either.

“Let’s stop talking about this.”

Killian quickly cleared the air and began talking about how to deal with the Giuliano organization.

“Shall we start from District 16?”

Endymion was the first to speak.

In the capital city of Portoa, the areas under the jurisdiction of the Giuliano family were districts 6, 7, 15, and 16.

Among them, districts 6 and 7 were near the center of the capital and were the areas that Giuliano was concerned about, while districts 15 and 16 were on the outskirts.

Messina intended to expose the identity of the boss of the Giuliano organization by simultaneously attacking the businesses they were running.

“I heard that a slave market is opening in District 16.”

Even though slavery had already been abolished, the Giuliano family, who had amassed their current wealth through the slave market, were still selling slaves on the black market.

Those who were usually taken away as slaves were adults or their children who had been taken away because they had borrowed money from the Giuliano organization at high interest rates and were unable to repay it.

“Then Endymion, you find out the exact schedule and scale.”

Messina interrupted as soon as Killian finished speaking.

"We're going to cause a scene that day. You know, we're the best at breaking things."

“Then your organization will be exposed first. Is that okay?”

"Yeah, it doesn't matter. I was holding out because I wanted to help them out anyway."

Messina said so and gave Killian an embarrassed look.

“In the end, Madame Starr went down to the estate to divorce you?”

Messina felt bad for no reason, thinking that this was something that had happened because she had meddled in the situation.

"You divorce Emily safely and go about your business. Don't put her in danger by becoming a target of Giuliano for no reason."

Killian looked at Messina with surprise, as if he was surprised that she would even think of such a thing.

“I’m worried because she’s my son’s friend’s aunt.”

Messina, a fool for a son, still believed that John and Lucas were friends. Killian decided not to bother correcting that misunderstanding.

“It’s a shame Maria was so fond of Madame Starr.”

Endymion said in a melancholic voice.

Maria, an introvert, did not originally have many friends, but after marrying Endymion, she became distant from the few friends she had.

Because her friends were afraid of Maria, who had married a mafia member.

Maria often spent her days alone and lonely, and Endymion felt sorry for her. So, he thought he should arrange another meeting with Emily, with whom she had much in common...

Messina patted Endymion on the shoulder as if to encourage him.

"Anyway, let's make this operation a success. The work ahead is enormous."

“Yes. First of all, thank you for your hard work.”

At Killian's words, Messina coughed awkwardly.

“Please forgive me for trying to assassinate you with this.”

“I will forgive you if you succeed.”

Killian was an exception when it came to work.
