Queen Of Villains - Chapter 78

The assassination failed, but there was no major uproar because the Crown Prince admitted it was his fault.

"Still, I can't rest easy. The Giuliano Organization will suspect you and me are in cahoots."

At Messina's words, Killian nodded with a serious expression.

In fact, Messina had a point.

If the assassination had failed, the Starr organization should have attacked the Rezetta family, but neither organization suffered any damage.

“But what problem could there be if our three organizations joined forces?”

Endymion, the boss of the Gotio family, was also present.

“But Endymion, could you tie up that hair?”

Endymion's hair, blowing in the wind, kept hitting Messina's cheek.

“I’m sorry. Maria said that letting my hair down suits today’s concept.”

“It’s really annoying.”

Endymion laughed heartily despite Messina's rebuke and did not tie his hair until the end.

"See, Killian? Even ordinary people who marry mafiosi have a successful marriage."

Endymion's eyes widened as Messina glanced at Killian.

“Are you having any concerns about your married life?”

“Do you think that’s all there is to it? I heard you’ve decided to get a divorce.”

"Yes?"

Killian shook his head as if he was tired.

“Messina, you’re advertising it so openly, aren’t you?”

"You'd better work out your marital issues before I really start advertising. Should I meet Emily instead?"

At those words, Killian's expression turned cold and serious.

“If you approach my wife carelessly, I won’t leave you alone.”

“Oh my gosh- oh, I’m scared.”

Messina trembled exaggeratedly.

“Now, let’s focus on the meeting, Messina.”

The committee's meeting was just around the corner. Besides the four major mafia families, the committee included seven other mafia organizations.

And after the death of the chairman of the committee, Vito Gottio, the position of chairman was left vacant.

Tensions were running high in the mafia world at the moment, as the next committee meeting would elect two candidates for chairman, and a vote would take place.

“It’s obvious that Giuliano’s boss is after the chairmanship.”

"Should I reveal my face this time? Haven't you always just put the front boss (the face madam who operates on the street instead of the actual boss) in front?"

“Huh, what kind of person has such a high nose?”

Messina pouted.

"There must be a reason why they have to hide their identity. It's not just because of the concept of mysticism."

There was a brief silence at Killian's words. Each boss was lost in thought.

“Didn’t Messi say that he was also looking into Giuliano Boss?”

"Yes."

“I guess there wasn’t much of a harvest.”

“That’s true. After the previous boss died, it’s hard to believe they even had a boss.”

Endymion shrugged his shoulders, his chin resting on his hand, as if he agreed with Messina's words.

“So, I have something in mind.”

At this point, Messina spoke about the plan she had in mind.

That afternoon, Emily was comforting Marlene, who had just had a broken engagement.

Hey! Don't try to comfort me. I didn't get dumped—I dumped him, yes?

Marlene refused Emily's comfort.

“But your followers don’t think that way.”

This incident effectively caused Marlene to step down from her position as queen of society.

It was absurd, but the reason was that they couldn't accept a divorced young lady as queen. The social world was that cold.

“But what did the Crown Prince say to the Empress that made her agree to break off the engagement? She really liked you.”

Lucius thought that the operation had been leaked because of Marlene and announced his intention to break off the engagement.

However, since he couldn't tell the truth to the Huppert family or the royal family, including Marlene, he made up some excuse.

"Well, he says I'm both talkative and careless. What does that mean? That guy talks more than I do."

Marlene pounded her chest as if she felt wronged.

"Anyway, I won't be robbed of my queenship so easily like you. Just wait and see."

Marlene gulped down the already cold tea.

“Why does the loss of that position seem greater than the loss of the position of Crown Princess?”

Emily looked at Marlene as if she couldn't understand.

"Do you know how much joy it is to have those arrogant ladies? You've felt it too."

“If you want to regain that position, don’t you have to get engaged to the man with the most power after the Crown Prince?”

In today's world, no matter how capable a woman is, her power can only depend on that of a man.

“The next powerful man is... Hey! It’s the Duke of Sadie! Are you crazy?”

Marlene shook her head quickly, as if she was sick of the man being entangled with Emily.

“Please, aren’t there any decent men out there who aren’t related to you?”

Emily was momentarily lost in thought as she watched Marlene shout so loudly that it seemed as if she was about to spit fire.

'Or what if Marilyn becomes a female mafia member?'

Emily swallowed a laugh as she realized she had been thinking nonsense.

The two were chatting happily when Roxy knocked on the door.

“Madam, we have a guest...”

Roxy looked a bit hesitant.

"Who?"

Emily's question made Roxy feel uneasy. Killian wasn't even at the mansion, and Alvin and Cezanne were both out.

***

Roxy assumed the visitor was a regular person, since she introduced herself as Mrs. Taynan and said she was a member of the same PTA as Emily.

But who would have thought that after entering the lobby, the person facing them would be Messina, the boss of the Rezetta family!

Roxy's heart sank at the sight of the woman entering the lobby. The bear seal, the symbol of the Rezetta family, gleamed on one of her ears.

A bear, red hair, emerald eyes. Only then did Roxy remember who Mrs. Taynan was referring to, and a cold sweat broke out.

“Aren’t you Messina?”

"Yes!"

“Your attire is quite unique.”

“Really? Does it suit me?”

Anyone could tell she was dressed like a homeless noblewoman. The silhouette itself was enough to put aside any suspicion.

Roxy closed her eyes for a moment and prayed for herself. If Killian found out, she couldn't be sure what would happen next.

"Don't worry. You know I'm with Killian, right? I'll just sit back and go."

“But we cannot let you in until we get permission from Killian.”

Messina, who had experienced the Starr family's overprotection, was not surprised by Roxy's strong rejection.

“Hey, I told you I came to bring peace to your boss and his wife.”

“...What does that mean?”

“Didn’t you know Killian was trying to divorce Emily?”

Roxy was so surprised that she forgot to respond and just listened to Messina with a blank expression.

“Judging by your reaction, I guess you didn’t know.”

“Yes... But I don’t understand why Messina would care about that. This is a problem for our Starr organization.”

"That's because we're partners! If Killian can't focus properly on his work because of housework, it'll bother me too."

Besides that, she also had a human interest in Emily, but Messina didn't bring that up.

"Anyway, tell her quickly that I'm here. Emily will definitely be happy to see me."

"Yes, I understand.”

Roxy guided Messina to the reception room, checking the weapons hidden inside her maid's uniform to prepare for any potential danger.

“Just introduce me as Lucas’s mother.”

At Messina's words, Roxy frowned as if asking what was going on.

“Emily decided to call me Lucas’s mother, too.”

Is it really true that the boss of the Rezetta family is called by such a strange title?

Roxy was dumbfounded, but she did as she was told and introduced Messina.

***

“Lucas’s mother... has arrived.”

It was a title that really didn't stick in her mouth.

“Oh, really?”

Judging by the bright voice coming from inside, it seemed that Emily was indeed calling Messina by that name.

“Tell her to come inside.”

She had hoped Madam would refuse, but Roxy's wish was not granted.

Messina, as if to say, "Look at that," passed Roxy with a proud attitude and went inside.

As she went inside, she saw a beautiful woman with impressive blonde hair that had been carefully set with a soldering iron.

“Is this your first time seeing my face?”

When Messina suddenly spoke informally, Marlene frowned slightly.

“I’m seeing your face for the first time, too?”

“You’re quite a cheeky girl, not being intimidated by me.”

“Why should I be discouraged by someone wearing such an out-of-style dress?”

"Oh, this is out of style? I'll have to slap Jed when I get back."

Messina smiled at Marlene and sat down next to her.

Marlene, embarrassed by her first experience of rudeness, moved the hem of her dress aside to allow Messina to sit down.

"What is this? It's been a long time since I've felt this depressed."

Marlene observed Messina with curious eyes.

“Why? Is this the first time you’ve seen a woman like this?”

When Messina leaned in closer as if to look at her properly, Marlene was startled and tilted her head back.

“Huh? Oh, no.”

And then he looked at Emily and asked.

“Who is this person?”

It was only then that Emily introduced Messina and Marlene to each other.

“This is Mrs. Teynan, the mother of John’s friend.”

'And should I also introduce her as the boss of the Rezetta family?'

Messina shrugged, seeing Emily's concerns. He meant, "Do whatever you want."

'No. She'll faint.'

Emily gave up on further explanation and instead introduced Marlene to Messina.

“This is Marlene Huppert, the daughter of the Marquis Huppert.”

“Oh, you were the Marquis’s daughter? You were quite a person.”

Marlene bit her lower lip at the sarcastic tone. It had been a long time since she'd seen such a formidable opponent.

"Emily, where is the Teynan family affiliated? I've never heard of them before."

“What are you talking about? Where are you talking about?”

Messina looked Marlene up and down, then turned to Emily again as if annoyed.

“Anyway, Emily, we have something important to discuss. Could you please let this young lady out?”

Marlene became even more upset at those words.

"If it's about Emily, why don't you tell me? We're like sisters, so there's nothing I wouldn't hear."

“...Really? Emily, are you really that close with this girl?”

Messina confirmed with Emily that Marlene's words were true.

Emily, who had received a lot of help from Marlene, nodded reluctantly at Marlene's intense gaze.

“Well, then, there’s nothing I can do. The reason I came here is...”

Emily and Marlene looked at her mouth with eyes full of curiosity, wondering what on earth she was trying to say.

And as Messina finished speaking, the teacup Emily was holding rolled to the floor with a clatter.

“I came to tell you that your husband is preparing for a divorce.”
