Queen of Villains - Chapter 45

As it was meal time, people began to gather in the dining room one by one.

“Is the room okay?”

Emily asked, naturally sitting down next to Killian.

“Yes, it’s okay.”

It wasn't an empty promise.

Perhaps it was because he was the husband of the master they served? The room was spacious and in excellent condition. The garden view from the room wasn't bad either.

"Thank god."

Five people attended dinner today: Emily, Killian, Pete, and Baron Roman, long-time vassals of the Sinope family.

“I can’t tell you how excited both of us are to see you again, young lady.”

It was rare for him to show such emotion, as Baron Roman was originally a cautious and well-mannered old gentleman.

“I feel good seeing you two like this.”

Emily smiled brightly at the sight of Baron Roman welcoming her so sincerely.

"Honey."

Then the Baroness cautiously tapped her husband on the arm. At her signal, the Baron, as if remembering something he had forgotten, clapped his hands.

"Oh, that's right. I practiced calling you by your first name before coming here, but I made a mistake because I was thinking back. Now, I should call you Lord."

“Call me whatever you want. That title feels awkward to me, too.”

“But we still have to follow etiquette.”

The Baroness, like her husband, was a noblewoman with a refined personality and culture.

“I was unable to attend your wedding due to poor health, but I am finally able to greet Your Grace, the Marquis.”

She also greeted Killian politely.

“I came to help with the business with the person next to me.”

At those words, Pete stood up from his seat.

“My name is Pete Donahue.”

Baron Roman rose, shook Pete's hand, and sat down.

“I can’t tell you how reassuring it is to have two capable people from the capital come to us.”

The friendly attitude of Baron Roman and his wife made the meal atmosphere pleasant.

Baroness Roman took a quick look at Emily and Killian sitting together.

She heard that Killian was clearly of commoner origin, but his appearance and behavior did not seem like that of a commoner at all.

He was extremely noble and dignified. His intelligent and sharp gray eyes also contributed to that atmosphere.

At first, she almost fell for the news that the young lady was marrying a mafia man, but looking back, she thinks her worries were for nothing.

Killian looked at his wife carefully, and the strange current flowing between them suggested that they cared for each other.

“What are your plans for tomorrow?”

Emily answered Baroness Roman's question.

“I’m planning to go to Toto’s shop tomorrow. I’ll try the carrot cake too.”

"I should tell Toto in advance. If you just go, you might come back without even being able to taste the cake because of all the tourists."

“Is it that popular?”

Pete also joined in the conversation naturally.

“You’ll know once you try it.”

“Unfortunately, Mr. Donahue doesn’t enjoy desserts.”

Baroness Roman laughed heartily at Emily's explanation.

“Even though you don’t even touch sweets, you ate that cake, right, honey?”

“Haha, that’s right.”

Pete shrugged at that.

“Everyone says so, so I guess I should try it too.”

“You’ll be surprised.”

The Baroness then turned to Killian and asked.

“What about you, Marquis? Do you like cake?”

Emily also looked at Killian with eyes full of curiosity.

Killian usually ate dessert whenever it was served, but because his expression didn't change much, it was hard to tell whether he liked it or not.

“I just eat it if it’s there.”

“I guess you’ve never been particularly impressed by desserts.”

"Yes."

“Then, Your Grace, you should definitely try it tomorrow.”

“Yes, I will do that.”

Emily's heart fluttered as she watched Killian chatting casually with her family.

After finishing their meal, Baron Roman and his wife left, and it was time for Emily to personally show them around the mansion.

Since the Sinope Mansion had a total of 60 rooms, it was not possible to tour all of them.

They decided to see only the Count and Countess's rooms, Emily's childhood room, the drawing room, the study, the banquet hall, and the corridor that served as the long gallery, and then have tea time in the garden.

“I think this cute girl is a picture of you as a child.”

As they were looking around Emily's room, Pete asked, holding a small picture frame in his hand.

"Yes, that's right."

The girl in the photo was smiling brightly while holding a bouquet of flowers bigger than her face.

“Madam, you have been born with a different side since you were young.”

At Pete's words, Killian also looked at the girl in the photo.

With distinct features, pale skin, and a bright smile that made it hard to believe she was a child, Emily was the image of a beautiful and pure girl.

He felt a renewed sense of guilt at having such an innocent girl marry someone so tainted by the world.

Emily, embarrassed that Killian had been holding her photo for so long, snatched it from his hand.

“Ahem, then shall we go and check out the next room?”

Killian looked at each of the areas Emily introduced, as if he didn't want to miss a single one.

When they went to the study that the Count often used, she sat in the chair he had sat in and admired the garden view from there.

Emily was delighted that Killian was paying attention to her story and participating faithfully in the tour.

Then there was a knock on the door, and the nanny came out carrying a picnic basket.

“Miss, the weather is nice. How about having tea time on the island?”

In the eastern garden of the Sinope Mansion, there was an artificial lake with a very small island in the middle of it.

Moreover, when you arrive by ferry, there is a pavilion with an exotic atmosphere, making it the perfect place for tea time.

Emily checked her watch at her nanny's words.

“But isn’t the sun going to set soon?”

After the sun went down, the ferry could not be launched.

“No. The days are long these days, so it’s okay.”

The nanny forced the picnic basket into Emily's arms. Pete, quick-witted, slipped away.

“I’m going to go to my room and rest, so you two can stay a little longer and then come back.”

“Why? Why don’t you go together...?”

“I have a lot to do tomorrow, so I’m going to get some sleep early.”

And Pete looked at the nanny. She had been shouting, "Get out of here!" with a fierce gaze.

“It’s great that the ferry is for two people. You two should go soon!”

As the nanny proceeded at a rapid pace, Emily and Killian were pushed to the front of the boat before they knew it.

“Do you know how to drive a boat?”

Killian strode onto the ferry without answering.

“Please hold my hand.”

Killian reached out to Emily. The large, strong hand she'd held before wrapped itself warmly around Emily's hand.

After confirming that Emily had taken her place, Killian untied the rope he had tied to the boat, grabbed the oar, and took his place on the opposite side.

Rowing might seem easy, but steering the boat was tricky, and the weight was considerable. Nevertheless, Killian skillfully maneuvered the boat to its destination.

“Have you ever been on a boat like this?”

“Yes, sometimes.”

Today, Killian was wearing a white shirt and dark blue pants. The summer jacket he'd worn for formality was laid aside.

Thanks to that, Emily could clearly see the muscles attached to Killian's arms twitching every time he sent the oar backwards.

Emily looked down, embarrassed, and this time his firm abs and thighs were visible.

'Let's see the scenery, the scenery!'

Emily shook her head hurriedly and tried to make conversation.

“Don’t your arms hurt? Should I help you?”

Killian looked at Emily's slender wrists and arms. He was lucky if he didn't miss Nona.

"It's okay."

Emily, who had been admiring the scenery helplessly after Killian's refusal, suddenly looked at the picnic basket she had brought with her. Her nanny had generously prepared drinks and snacks.

"After rowing, I'll get hungry again soon. Luckily, my nanny prepared plenty of snacks."

At those words, Killian glanced inside the basket.

“It’s a lot for two people.”

“The nanny has big hands.”

Because the lake wasn't large, the boat quickly reached the island, which was just the right size for a pavilion and its surrounding garden.

Glass walls were built between the pavilion pillars, giving it the feel of a glass greenhouse.

This time, Emily, who had come down to the ground with Killian's help, went straight to the pavilion and laid out food and drinks on the tea table.

“This is made with carrots grown in our territory.”

Emily handed him some carrot juice. Even Killian, who disliked strong-smelling vegetables, ate the carrots.

Emily asked, watching Killian gulp down the juice in one go.

“How is it? Does it taste like the one you had when you were young?”

"Yes."

Even though Emily didn't make it, she felt proud for no reason.

It wasn't even sunset yet, but as soon as they arrived on the island, it began to get dark. Dark clouds were gathering in the sky.

She frowned as she remembered her nanny's face, who had been nagging her to go on a picnic because the weather was nice.

Emily put down her scone and looked outside. Suddenly, a few drops of rain began to fall.

“I think we should go back to the mansion before it rains anymore.”

“Yes, go back quickly.”

They put the food in a basket together and hurried down to the ferry.

But Emily couldn't help but gasp at the sight before her eyes.

The boat was left floating alone on the other side of the lake, as if rodents had eaten away the rope that had been tied to it.

“Please stay here for a moment.”

Since the ship was not far away, Killian decided to pull it ashore himself.

‘Nanny, what kind of weather is this? A picnic? What kind of romance can arise in a situation like this...’
