Queen of Villains - Chapter 46

The raindrops were heavier than before, but not so heavy that they couldn't board the boat.

But Killian kept looking back, worried about Emily getting caught in the rain while he was bringing the boat.

Emily wore a light summer dress and a wide-brimmed turquoise bonnet to protect her from the summer sun. The thin shawl, initially draped around her shoulders, was now wrapped around her head, covering her face to keep out the rain.

“Please take shelter from the rain under a tree for a moment.”

“Yes, you too, be careful.”

Killian rolled up his sleeves and rolled up his trousers above his knees.

Although the water wasn't deep because it wasn't a large lake, Emily couldn't help but watch Killian anxiously.

He successfully made his way to the ferry, cutting through the water with brisk strides. He then pulled the rope tied to the ferry over his shoulder and walked closer to the shore.

Meanwhile, the rain was getting heavier.

Even Emily, who was under the tree, had her shawl soaked and sticking to her face.

Finally, Emily threw off her cumbersome shawl and went down to the lakeside.

“Shall we pull it together?”

Emily asked, shouting.

“It’s dangerous, don’t come down!”

Killian shouted strongly, trying to dissuade her.

She felt sorry for him struggling alone, but it was obvious that the voluminous skirt she was wearing would become a hindrance as soon as she entered the water.

Emily could only wait anxiously for him to come up.

Fortunately, Killian managed to pull the boat ashore on his own.

“Are you hurt anywhere?”

Emily asked, examining his body.

"It's okay."

Emily opened her palm and checked the rainwater.

“It’s raining so much.”

Not only was it difficult to board a ship in this condition, but even if she tried to force herself to board, she would most likely catch a cold.

“Let’s go back to the pavilion for now.”

“That would be better.”

Killian tied the boat tightly once more and led the way to the pavilion.

The ground quickly became muddy due to the rain. Even the moisture created a hazy mist, making it difficult to see beneath one's feet.

“Ugh.”

A small ditch opened up between the wet grass. When Killian stumbled, Emily, who had been following him, was startled and ran towards him.

Emily sat down on the floor, not caring that her dress was getting wet, and examined Killian's hand first.

“Your hands are bleeding.”

It seemed like his hand had been scratched by a sharp stone stuck in the ground.

“I didn’t know there was a ditch here.”

Emily looked upset.

“I guess I asked you to come for nothing.”

"It just suddenly started raining. It wasn't your fault the ferry rope broke."

Killian stood up as if nothing had happened and brushed the dirt off his pants.

Emily followed him and stood up. Killian brushed the front of her skirt away. As his hand passed, the mud spread so much that it was pointless to even try to shake it. The two burst into laughter.

Arriving safely at the pavilion, they took off their hats and hung their outerwear on a chair. Their rain-soaked clothes clung to their bodies, rapidly lowering their body temperature.

Fortunately, there was a stove and firewood inside the pavilion for boiling water. Killian deftly lit the stove.

But as if that wasn't enough, as time passed, Emily's complexion began to turn pale, and her lips began to turn blue.

“I think you should at least take off the dress you're wearing.”

"But..."

Because it was a summer dress, there were only chemises and drawers inside.

Emily, who was having trouble making a decision, looked towards Killian. He was in a similar situation to hers.

If she persisted, Killian would catch a cold, too. So Emily mustered up her courage and spoke.

“Would you please turn around? You should also take off your clothes to dry them.”

In the end, Emily and Killian agreed to sit facing away from each other with the stove between them.

Amidst the quiet sound of the rain, she heard the rustling of clothes. It had been cold just moments ago, but her body was quickly warming up.

Killian tried to focus only on the sound of rain hitting the window.

Even before they got there, he couldn't tell where to look because of the dress that clung so tightly to Emily's body.

But this time, he had to hear the sound of a dress being taken off. This was the worst torture he's ever experienced.

Emily must have felt the same way, as even after she took off her clothes, an awkward silence flowed between them for a long time.

“How are you? Aren’t you cold?”

Breaking the silence, Killian asked.

“My underwear was thin, so it dried quickly. What about you?”

Killian chewed his lip vigorously. "Because my underwear is thin!" she said, squeezing his eyes shut as he tried not to even think about Emily's thin underwear.

“I’m fine too.”

He thought it would be better not to ask Emily the question.

How much time had passed again? This time, Emily spoke first.

“Will the rain stop?”

“If it’s pouring down so suddenly, it’s likely a shower.”

"I really hope so. I'll be able to go back if it stops before the sun sets."

If the rain didn't stop or the sun went down, they would have to stay here overnight.

Killian himself could sleep comfortably, but Emily would probably get a headache if she slept here. He looked out the window anxiously.

“How are your hands?”

At Emily's question, Killian examined his own palm. The bleeding had stopped thanks to the pressure Emily had applied with the handkerchief she had given him earlier.

"It's okay."

"Thank god."

Can I have this handkerchief? John has one, so he can have one too.

A satisfied smile appeared on his face, perhaps because he thought that this time he had become the owner of the handkerchief quite legitimately.

As time passed, the rain began to gradually lessen.

“I guess it’s a shower, just like you said.”

Emily turned around with a look of excitement. Killian, who had turned to face Emily without thinking when he heard voices, met her eyes.

Startled, the two quickly turned their heads.

“I didn’t see anything.”

“Me too.”

Even though they said that, the afterimage that remained in their head did not easily disappear.

They closed their eyes tightly, opened them, and quickly gathered their clothes quickly, and began to put them on.

But the clothes that were still not dry didn't go up as easily as they wanted.

“Are you all dressed?”

Emily cautiously called Killian.

"Yes."

Killian answered with his back still turned.

“Excuse me, could you please tie the string on my back?”

Emily managed to take it off somehow, but she couldn't tighten the straps on her back by herself.

"...All right."

Killian turned around with a complicated mind and approached Emily.

When he hesitated, Emily explained how to tie the laces.

“Just pull out the cross string and tie the end at the very end.”

The string was too thin for his large hands to hold.

He carefully inserted the string into the hole, avoiding touching Emily's body as much as possible. His breathing became quiet, and the process of repeatedly inserting and removing the string felt strangely erotic.

As he climbed up, his hand gently touched Emily's shoulder blade.

She flinched slightly without realizing it when the cold hand touched her.

"Sorry."

"...No."

Killian took a deep breath, then focused again and tied the laces. He cast a spell, telling himself he was now putting on his combat boots.

“It’s all done.”

The torture-like time is finally over.

Because the summer days were long, the surroundings were bright even when the dark clouds cleared.

“Be careful not to fall.”

The ground was still slippery, and although it wasn't intentional, holding hands had become natural.

Emily, relying on Killian's hand, was able to quickly descend to the lakeshore. Fortunately, the boat was safely anchored in its original position.

Killian took Emily's hand and led her into the boat, sitting opposite her. He pushed the oars vigorously, and the boat floated on the lake.

The sunset soon began to fade. The sight of the slightly cloudy sky bathed in natural hues of pink, purple, and orange was a mystical sight.

And Emily's large, clear eyes, which met his, contained the various colors of the sky.

Killian looked at Emily against the backdrop, which seemed detached from reality, and began to feel uneasy, wondering if she really was disappearing like a mirage.

“The sunset seen from a boat is truly unique.”

Emily simply smiled innocently and said, "The ship will soon reach the land where the mansion is located." Killian lamented this fact.

The nanny and servants, who had been waiting for the young lady to come out, holding umbrellas, waved their hands vigorously when they saw her.

“Everyone was here?”

Killian and Emily made it safely to shore, and the nanny spread out a blanket and covered Emily.

“Oh my, my little girl is going to catch a cold.”

The two of them were indeed hoping to spend some cozy time trapped on the island, but the unexpected downpour was too heavy.

The nanny's eyes welled up with tears of remorse. The butler, who was with her, also handed Killian a towel and blanket.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

Still, with the warm blanket covering him, Killian seemed to be able to live a little.

“I’ve prepared the bath water. Come in.”

"Yes, there's warm soup in your room. Let's warm up first."

Emily's face broke into tears at her nanny's words.

“Have you finished dinner yet?”

She couldn't even enjoy tea time properly, and after all that suffering, she couldn't help but be hungry.

“Don’t worry, I’ve prepared plenty for you.”

"Thank god."

Killian chuckled softly at Emily's words. Then she tapped his arm as if to tell him not to laugh.

The nanny raised an eyebrow at the suddenly friendly attitude.

'Was the operation a success?'
