IYDGMYD - Chapter 40

How can you say something like that so casually?

I wanted to cover his mouth, but I couldn't bring myself to do so and just clenched my fist.

“Wh, what are you talking about...! When did I!”

“I saw it clearly.”

“You didn’t take your clothes off. Everyone is wearing underwear!”

Even though it was called underwear, it was thick and not revealing, as it was worn under armor, so it could be worn as outerwear.

Callius smiled mischievously as he watched me complain.

“So you admit to peeping.”

“I didn’t peek. And your voice is too loud...!”

He didn't lower his voice, as if I had lowered my voice to a whisper.

“It’s no use trying to avoid it.”

Then he turned around and shouted.

“Did you all hear? My bride is a bitchy person, so everyone, be careful.”

“Yes, my lord!”

The knights answered loudly.

The Uttar chieftain and his family were seen laughing quietly.

My face felt very hot.

Unable to lie down, I collapsed, using Callius's large body as a wall to avoid the gaze of others. I pulled the blanket up to my head.

The quilt made of fur had a characteristic, rough leather smell and was heavy.

Callius asked from outside the blanket.

“Aren’t you going to take off your outerwear?”

“Absolutely not, absolutely not.”

I pulled the leather jacket I was wearing tighter.

I could feel Callius laughing quietly.

“You should go to bed early, since you have to wake up early.”

When I didn't answer out of spite, he spoke to me again after a while.

“Would you like me to give you an arm pillow?”

I moved a little towards Lamia as a sign of rejection.

Then, Callius suddenly pulled his body towards me and lay down.

I lowered the blanket a little and glared at him with only my eyes open.

“Why are you coming closer?”

“Brentian has a really bad sleeping habit.”

He nodded over my shoulder.

Brentian, who was lying down with the blanket covering up to his neck, said absentmindedly.

“I don’t have any sleeping habits.”

Callius lowered his voice and whispered to me.

“Actually, that guy smells a bit bad.”

“Even an aide has his own honor, my lord.”

Callius turned around and scolded Brentian sternly.

“It is impolite to eavesdrop on a couple’s private conversation, Viscount Creep.”

“Gossiping so everyone can hear... No, I’m sorry.”

Brentian stopped refuting and just tucked his tail between his legs.

Ramia, who heard the conversation between the two, chuckled and laughed quietly.

Of course, everyone heard that sound, too.

Brentian let out a deep sigh upon hearing Lamia laugh, which triggered everyone in Ker to burst out in laughter they had been holding back.

As laughter filled the room, the awkward atmosphere caused by the unfamiliar and uncomfortable sleeping arrangements was instantly relieved.

'It's not as bad as I thought.'

I pulled the blanket down around my neck and stared at the ceiling.

Large chunks of ham were hanging from ropes from the ceiling, which had exposed wooden frames.

The firewood in the brazier beneath our feet crackled and burned, spreading a warm heat.

It was my first time sleeping somewhere other than a bed, and although my body was a little uncomfortable, it felt cozy and not bad.

“Have sweet dreams.”

Callius whispered in my ear.

“Callius, too.”

After giving a brief response to the greeting, I closed my eyes.

Soon, snoring and heavy breathing could be heard here and there.

I waited for everyone to fall asleep, concentrating on the various sounds I could hear.

'I must go to Lhasa and ask him clearly what he wanted to tell me.'

Soon, the Ker became quiet.

I very carefully got out of bed.

Perhaps tired from the arduous journey, Lamia and the maids were asleep, oblivious to the world.

I crawled out of Ker, my heels as high as I could.

As I opened the door blocked by a thick cloth and stepped outside, a sharp wind brushed my cheek.

'Ugh, it's cold.'

It was so warm inside the Ker that I didn't realize it was this cold outside.

The clothes were already heavy, and with the strong snowstorm, I kept falling and getting up with every step I took.

The Ker where Lhasa had taken Callius was not far away. This was probably Lhasa's Ker.

As I was walking towards it, someone tapped me on the shoulder.

“Where are you going?”

“...!”

I turned around in surprise and saw Callius looking down at me.

'He was definitely asleep?'

When did he wake up?

Still, I was glad that it was none other than Callius who followed me.

I spoke honestly.

“Lhasa...”

My voice was muffled by the wind, so I cleared my throat and spoke a little louder.

“I want to see Lhasa!”

“At this hour?”

Callius grabbed my arm tightly, perhaps anxious that I might fly away.

It was a blessing. I was already on the verge of being blown away by the wind like a fallen leaf.

I squinted my eyes against the wind and looked up at him.

“Lhasa left me with a prophecy.”

“Is that so?”

"She said she'd let me know something with her actions, but I'm not sure if I interpreted it correctly. I want to confirm it secretly!"

“I guess it’s a secret since you’ve waited until this hour.”

“Yes! But I don’t have to keep it a secret from Callius.”

It was not a secret to Callius, who was on the same boat, as long as I kept the Kavala spies from knowing.

I held his arms with both hands and interlocked them tightly, just like last time.

“Would you like to come with me? As you can see, it’s a bit difficult to do it alone.”

“Please call me next time. It’s dangerous to travel alone in many ways.”

I held his arm tightly and smiled brightly at him, barely able to open one eye due to the strong wind.

"Thank you."

“You say thank you so often.”

'Did I do that?'

Callius' words were bewildering.

I've heard Andrea say things like, "Stop saying sorry, you're such a fucking parrot," but this is the first time I've heard me say thank you so much.

“I guess the Marquis has a lot to be thankful for.”

My small mutterings were carried away by the wind.

I'm sure my voice was drowned out by the wind, but by chance or not, Callius smiled out of nowhere, and I felt like I heard a kind reply.

With his support, I approached Lasha's Ker.

I heard that the Uttar people live in one ker, with several families living together, but Lhasa has her own ker all to herself.

Callius carefully opened the door and called Lhasa.

“Lhasa, are you sleeping?”

The smoke leaked out.

Callius, who was looking around inside, said as he let me in.

“I can’t see Lhasa.”

As he said, Ker was empty.

Judging by the embers in the brazier still burning, it seemed that Lhasa had not been gone for long.

At the entrance, we shook off the snow from our clothes and sat on cushions near the brazier to wait for Lhasa.

Callius pointed to the innermost seat.

“It looks like she went out.”

A golden rope was placed on the seat of Lhasa.

It was a golden string strung with colorful pebbles.

“The fact that this is there means that Ker’s master is out for a while.”

“She went out alone in this cold weather? Where do you think she went?”

“Well, I’m not sure about that, but Lhasa is a prophet with such mystical powers, I don’t think there’s any need to worry.”

“That’s fortunate.”

“Let’s wait here for a moment.”

I was shivering from the drop in body temperature after being outside for a while, so Callius suggested that I move to a seat near the stove.

I didn't refuse, but sat down in front of the brazier and warmed my hands with the fire.

Because I was wearing clothes that were structured so that I couldn't take my hands off, the heat didn't come in direct contact, so I kept putting my hands close to the fire, and I could smell the burning leather.

“Be careful.”

Callius, noticing that my clothes were getting scorched, grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to the fire.

“Oh, thank you.”

Callius smiled meaningfully. It was a mischievous smile.

I smiled along with him as I realized what he was trying to say.

“What Callius said is right.”

I'm saying thank you again so quickly.

I stared blankly at Callius' face.

The fire in the brazier cast deep shadows on his face, making his handsome features stand out even more.

His gaze on me felt very warm, perhaps because of the orange light reflecting in his eyes.

My gaze was fixed on him as if drawn to a magnet.

I stared at him blankly, not realizing what I was doing, and then confessed as if I was in a trance.

“Do you know that the Kavala sent me as a spy, Callius?”
