Queen of Villains - Chapter 139

<Episode 139: Side Story (3)>

“Please give me the chef’s recommendation.”

“We have a new menu that we have developed, and I am sure Madame Velvet will be very pleased with it.”

Anyway, she didn't even ask Killian's opinion. He was the kind of person who would eat dog shit if it was something Emily chose for him.

“If it’s something I like, is it cooked with shrimp?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Wow, great. I’m looking forward to it.”

Even as the manager folded the menu and took it away, Killian was lost in his own thoughts.

'Let's start with what's visible.'

Killian was in the carriage, thinking about how he could go to Lake Yvette more often, which Emily had mentioned.

Although the Starr Mansion was still owned by Killian, he had now completely moved his living quarters to the Velvet Mansion, making it quite a hassle to travel there.

He wishes he could move the entire lake to the Velvet mansion. But, that's not possible...

'Then we'll have to build a new route that goes directly to Lake Yvette.'

Killian's thoughts about Emily were still on an extraordinary scale.

Emperor Kite tilted his head after receiving Killian's ambitious plan.

“You’re building a new road to Lake Yvette?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

Since such a large-scale road project required government approval, Pete had already prepared and delivered the paperwork to Killian to ensure it was completely legal.

“Wouldn’t that mean we’d have to blow up half of Starr’s forest?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

There was no need to suddenly wonder why. It was obvious, wasn't it? It was definitely because of the Duchess.

"Hmm, if you build a new road across the lake, are you planning on charging a toll? Surely you won't just block other people from entering?"

“As stated in the documents, instead of opening the lake completely without tolls, we plan to make some parts of the lake off-limits to outsiders.”

It was planned to be Emily's only space.

“Well, it would be good for the Empire if the lake were opened, so let’s proceed.”

"Thank you."

From that day on, Killian's daily life became incredibly busy.

'Who asked you to make way for the lake?'

Emily was dumbfounded when her husband, who already had no time to look at the sky with her, frequently left the house under the pretext of construction work.

She never imagined that simply saying she missed Lake Yvette would create such a stir.

And Cezanne, Chili, and Roxy, who were closest to Madame, also gathered with serious faces because of that matter.

“I can’t let the boss keep making mistakes.”

“The humor is that he literally went to dig.”

“Ha, if it weren’t for you, Madam, I wouldn’t have cared.”

Cezanne sighed, rubbing her head. When it came to matters involving Madame, the boss could sometimes be irrational.

“So what should we do? Any good ideas?”

At Roxy's question, Chili opened her mouth softly.

“Actually, I have a good idea..."

And so the three women began their conspiracy.

***

In fact, the construction Killian was focusing on wasn't the road. Of course, that was important, but it was something he could leave to someone more expert than himself.

A more important task for him was to create a comfortable private space for Emily to relax at Lake Yvette.

So, under Killian's command, a cozy villa, perfectly suited to Emily's taste, was being built.

Every room in the villa had a view of the pink lake, and there was even a barbecue area in the yard.

And the beds in the villa's bedrooms were made of the finest wood, crafted by a master craftsman who demanded the best from Vancent. Particular care was taken with the master bedroom bed.

Moreover, nothing was chosen carelessly, including the carpets, curtains, and tablecloths on the floor.

Now, the villa only needed to complete the interior of the dining area.

Chili and Roxy, who had come to distribute food to the workers at Emily's order, looked around the villa and were amazed at Killian's meticulousness.

"Your Excellency."

Chili approached Killian, who was carefully choosing a chair.

Because he had a good grasp of Emily's tastes before they got married, he was able to choose most of the furniture without any difficulty.

He was worried that the trendy chair style that Emily had recently been liking was too hard for comfort.

“Yes. What’s going on?”

Killian answered dryly, his eyes still fixed on the magazine the interior designer had brought.

“Are you thinking of sleeping at the villa today?”

Since the bed was brought into the villa, Killian often slept there and didn't return home. He wanted to finish the construction as quickly as possible so he could give it to Emily as a gift.

“Why is that?”

“Oh, just in case, I brought your washed pajamas, but I was wondering if I should leave them behind.”

Only then did Killian glance at Chili and nod.

“Leave it.”

He answered bluntly and began to look at what he had been looking at.

Anyway, Roxy and Chili, who had just gotten some useful information from their conversation, made eye contact and smiled playfully.

In fact, they didn't bring just one pair of pajamas.

***

Emily was talking with Marlene, who was visiting the Dukes' residence for the first time in a long time.

“There was a play I saw with him last time. The content was...”

“Sorry, I can’t hear you.”

When she sensed that Emily was getting bored, Marlene immediately cut her off.

"I want to tell you my story. You know that. I'm not interested in other people's honeymoon stories or the plot of classic plays."

“Hey, even so...”

"If you get divorced, tell me the story at length. I can listen to that kind of thing for a long time."

"Why did I send you a tea time invitation? I wanted to cut off my wrist back then."

Anyway, Marlene started telling her story about what a wonderful birthday she had.

"Did you know that our Knox is incredibly strong? Remember when I asked for a hug, and he lifted me up with one arm? And in his other hand, he was carrying a bunch of my birthday presents."

Emily was starting to feel a little irritated by Marlene's constant boasting about her boyfriend. But she didn't want to interrupt Marlene, who was overflowing with happiness at having a boyfriend after so long.

“By the way, isn’t it raining so much?”

Marlene, who was talking, turned her gaze to the window for a moment at the sound of rain hitting the window hard.

The rain that had been falling lightly since morning began to get bigger, and now it was falling heavily.

“I thought it would stop somewhere along the way, but this is a big deal.”

Emily, who felt as if she had invited Marlene to her house today for no reason, asked with an apologetic expression.

“Do you want to just sleep here today?”

"Yes."

Marlene accepted without hesitation. She hated moving around on rainy days.

She figured it would be okay since it was just a drizzle when she got here, but in this heavy rain, no matter how well she used her umbrella, her dress and shoes would get wet.

Then she had to get on the carriage while it was still wet, and it was obvious how difficult it would be to get home in that condition.

"Cezanne, is Roxy back? I wish you could show Marlene an empty room."

When the Starr family entered the Velvet Duke's household, they felt the need for a "head maid." In fact, selecting a head maid was simple.

At the time, Cezanne and Chili, who were dating, declared that they did not want to lose time to such an important job as head maid, and as a result, the position of head maid naturally went to Roxy.

So, checking the guest rooms was the role of the butler or maid.

Emily, the landlady, had no idea which of the mansion's 300-plus rooms had been cleaned, so she had no choice but to look for Roxy.

“It’s time to come back now, I’ll check.”

Cezanne opened the drawing room door with a slightly nervous expression. And just in time, she saw Roxy running towards her from afar, looking anxious.

“Madam! Something terrible has happened!”

In this mansion where loud noises were rarely heard, Roxy's screams felt very unfamiliar.

Emily greeted Roxy with an ominous feeling. Roxy was already feeling uneasy because she had visited Killian's construction site with Chili.

“What’s going on?”

Emily asked in a trembling voice.
