Queen Of Villains - Chapter 89

He doesn't know what was in her mind leading her to Emily's room.

But Juliet had a feeling she knew exactly why Emily was sick.

As Killian opened the door, Juliet hurried to Emily and began to examine her complexion.

The doctor said that things would definitely get better with time, but Emily's condition seemed more serious than before.

She was drenched in cold sweat, soaking through her pajamas, and her face was completely colorless.

Juliet promptly took out an unidentified white powder, mixed it in water, and put it in Emily's mouth.

Surprisingly, Emily's complexion gradually became more relaxed as she ate the seemingly insignificant powder.

When the water containing the medicine finally dwindled, Juliet stopped giving Emily the medicine and wiped Emily's mouth.

The rough breathing gradually became quiet.

“Whew, we’ve overcome the crisis.”

As Emily's breathing returned to normal, she slumped down in her seat, her legs feeling as if they had lost their strength.

"For a moment."

Killian roughly snatched the bag from Juliet. Both the bag and the powder inside looked familiar.

It was the sugar that Juliet had insisted on adding when making carrot soup.

"How did this relieve Emily's pain? Wasn't it just sugar?"

Juliet sighed heavily at Killian's suspicious gaze.

“Now that something like this has happened to Emily, I can’t hide it any longer...”

Juliet's eyes, which had been muttering in lament, suddenly turned sharp.

"When Emily wakes up, I'll tell you both. But be prepared. If you hear this, you'll have no choice but to let Emily go."

Killian leaned against the wall, his brow furrowed.

It seemed like it would be even harder to endure if he heard another reason why he couldn't be with Emily, when his own secret was already burdensome enough.

Before dawn, Emily's eyes slowly opened as she fell into a comfortable sleep after taking her medicine.

'I'm alive.'

Emily felt her body.

Since she survived when she was supposed to die, does that mean she's now completely successful in beating the original?

'But how am I alive?'

As Emily was wondering that, Killian came into the room.

He was just coming back from nursing Emily all night, having gone out to change the towels.

Killian stood there blankly, as if dreaming, at the sight of Emily, who he had assumed was asleep, awake.

And Emily, too, looked up at Killian with a confused expression. Wasn't he in the capital right now?

“How did you get here...”

But she couldn't get an answer from Killian right away.

He ran to Emily in one breath and hugged her tightly.

'Ah.'

Emily's eyes widened.

Killian let out a sigh of relief as he felt the sensation of actually holding her.

In the quiet room, Killian's heartbeat was clearly heard by Emily.

Even though he didn't say anything, she could feel that he had been suffering because of her.

Emily felt her shoulders getting a little wet.

“Are you crying?”

At Emily's words, Killian quickly wiped away his tears.

He felt a surge of emotion, unknowingly, from the relief that Emily was alive.

“I’m not crying.”

The voice, which was trying to sound calm, was trembling at the end.

"...lie."

Although she still hated him, she honestly thought he looked cute, so she decided to just hold him.

It was a quiet night, and everyone was asleep, but that made the noise outside even louder.

The sound of wood crackling in the fireplace, insects chirping in the grass, and the night breeze knocking against the window.

Emily, embarrassed by the deep embrace with him, focused on the sounds around her.

“You’re awake!”

She didn't expect this kind of noise.

As Juliet entered, the two quickly moved away, but Juliet's expression became strange as she saw them together.

“This is really weird...”

At Juliet's muttering, Killian raised an eyebrow.

In the first place, that old woman's words, "If you want to save Emily, let her go quickly," had a huge impact on his decision to get a divorce.

“What do you mean, strange?”

Killian asked somewhat awkwardly.

Juliet had already decided to speak, but when she actually tried to speak, she hesitated for a long time, as if she was worried.

"Grandma?"

As Emily tilted her head, Juliet sighed and said.

“I guess I’ll have to tell you the whole story from the beginning.”

At those words, Killian's expression also turned sour.

Because last night, when he heard that story, Juliet's words came to mind, saying that he would never be able to be with Emily again.

Emily looked at the two of them curiously as the atmosphere grew serious and asked.

“What are you talking about?”

“It’s about you.”

Juliet blurted out and sat down on the chair next to the bed.

Killian also sat down on the edge of the bed where Emily was lying with a half-given look on his face.

Juliet warned Killian again in a serious tone before continuing her story.

"I'm telling you this because I see you care about Emily. You must never tell anyone what I say."

Killian replied with a hurt expression on his face.

“I won’t do anything that would put Emily in danger anyway.”

“Yes, then I’ll trust you and tell you.”

Juliet's mouth opened heavily, letting out a deep sigh.

***

Juliet had trouble getting along with people since she was little.

The reason is that she was of witch blood.

People were afraid of witches and did not approach them for fear of being caught.

Juliet, who loved people, always had to fight against loneliness.

The only people who reached out to her were the former Countess of Sinope and her husband (Emily's grandparents).

They gave Juliet, who was wandering without a fixed place, a place to live in the territory of Sinope.

So, for the first time, Juliet gave up her wandering life and had her own home.

She even got to have a happy family, something she thought she would never be able to have.

So, naturally, her gratitude to the Countess of Sinope and her husband could not help but be great.

While Juliet was wondering how to repay them, the Count's daughter-in-law became pregnant.

Thanks to that, the Count's laughter continued unabated.

Even the Count, who was always busy, stayed home and focused on prenatal care as his wife's due date approached.

“What should I name it?”

“If it’s a daughter, it’s Emily. It’s named after your name, Elodie.”

“What if it’s a son?”

"I've only ever thought about having a daughter. I want a pretty daughter like you. And somehow, I feel like it'll be a daughter."

The young lady chuckled at the Count's words.

“What's that supposed to mean? If the baby is a boy, how disappointed he'd be to hear that.”

“Then why don’t you apologize?”

The Countess smiled kindly and read the book to the baby in her stomach again.

Juliet, too, devoted all her time to assisting her little lady.

“Juliet, can you tell if the child is a boy or a girl?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t inherit the ability to foresee.”

"It's okay. Honestly, I don't care if it's a boy or a girl. I'm just grateful that they're born healthy."

The sight of the little lady stroking her belly could not have been more peaceful and beautiful.

But their laughter didn't last long.

The young lady gave birth to a very beautiful daughter, just as the Count had wished, but the baby could not breathe properly.

When neither the midwife nor the family doctor could figure out what was wrong with the child, the old Count finally turned to Juliet for help.

“Please save my granddaughter.”

Juliet had no precognitive powers, but as a witch, she had some healing powers, and her potion-handling skills were superior to anyone else's.

“Let me take a quick look at your body.”

Juliet placed her hand on the baby's body with a serious face and closed her eyes.

‘This feeling...’

Juliet was startled by the magical energy flowing through the child's body and pulled her hand away.

“Did you figure out why the child was acting like this?”

Juliet nodded with a trembling face.

“What on earth is it?”

She couldn't bring herself to tell them the bad news.

The Sinope family was already in a state of resignation at the sight of Juliet.

“I’ll prepare myself mentally, so tell me quickly.”

Juliet hesitated at the Count's urging and then opened her mouth.

“It’s a magical rampage.”

"What?"

“I need to look into it further, but it seems almost certain that she is suffering from a state of rampant magic.”

The Count next to her closed his eyes with a look of despair on his face.

“Why did it have to be our child...?”

Children born with rampant magic syndrome account for less than 1% of the population, and it is almost always incurable, with most dying within a week of birth.

When the little lady heard that, she hugged the child and shed tears.

She couldn't believe she had to let go of such a beautiful and precious baby.

The Count felt his heart break when he saw his wife like that.

“Is there absolutely no way to save her?”

“Fortunately, I know how to make a potion that suppresses magical powers.”

Hope appeared on the Court's face.

"So, that's all the child needs to survive? Are there any side effects?"

“The toxicity of the drug builds up, but it can be neutralized somewhat by consuming it with other foods that help relieve it... Hmm.”

Juliet hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth as if she had made up her mind.
