Queen of Villains - Chapter 6

Giovanni was out in the city with John, eating ice cream, at Killian's behest.

The cafe was filled with couples, except for them. The beautiful weather and romantic music playing made him feel melancholic.

“Are you wondering how to pass the time?”

John took a bite of his ice cream and asked, "Unlike when he ate with Emily, he ate it very cleanly, without a single drop getting on his lips."

"Yes."

Giovanni couldn't even deny John's sarcasm. He sighed and drank the coffee, which was as bitter as his life.

Even if it was the boss's order, there was nothing more arduous than sitting alone in a cafe with a seven-year-old boy. Especially if that boy had a cunning personality.

“Tell me about Emily. I’m curious how you met her.”

“I really don’t want to do it.”

“Don’t be afraid. I can ask my uncle directly in front of Emily.”

As expected, he is a cunning kid.

"They say that when it's time to get married, people around you will try to arrange a match. That's how you two met."

Giovanni tried to evade the question by making a vague excuse and then trying to move on to another topic. Speaking carelessly about Emily would only lead to his death.

“But my Uncle didn’t get married through an arranged marriage.”

Giovanni's eyebrows twitched at John's words.

“What do you know?”

“I knew my uncle had a picture of Emily for years.”

When did you see that again? Giovanni's face contorted.

“You saw it wrong.”

"Oh, so he married Emily while carrying around another woman's picture? He's a total piece of shit."

Yes. If he talks to John any longer, he'll get his neck cut off.

“Do you need some pocket money?”

“Please give me 10 bleu.”

Giovanni pulled his wallet out of his pocket and resolved. No matter what his master said, he had to bring Knox and silence the brat. If he didn't, he'd soon be penniless.

“But Giovanni doesn’t have a girlfriend?”

Giovanni narrowed his eyes at John's question. He seemed to understand why the little boy was suddenly asking such a question.

“Why? Are you trying to exploit my weakness with that?”

“Seeing your personality being so twisted, it seems like it wasn’t as I expected.”

"What!"

He was very upset by John's words, but it was true that he didn't have a girlfriend.

“So, do you have a girlfriend?”

At Giovanni's question, which was being asked with a stern look, John clicked his tongue in disappointment.

"I think my taste lies in the academy. I like older people."

“...How old must you be to not even be in the Academy?”

“I don’t know.”

“Tch, I’m not curious either.”

On that day, while the two were bickering, Killian was learning about the major families of the Vancent from Emily in the study.

In fact, since he was in the business of selling alcohol to the nobility, he had a fairly good understanding of their tastes and power relations.

However, if he pretended to know this, he would no longer be able to meet Emily under the pretext of education, so he's just quietly learning from her.

"You have a good memory. You memorized everything I said, so there's nothing more to say."

“Is it over?”

"Yes."

The problem was that Killian should have pretended to be incompetent. But aside from his unfortunate upbringing, this naturally gifted man didn't quite know how to feign incompetence.

“Well, then I’ll go back to my room now.”

Emily, who still felt awkward being alone with Killian unless it was about education, stood up.

“Please do so.”

Killian, who had no words to hold her back, nodded and let her go.

Emily came out of the study alone and went down the stairs, and soon ran into someone.

“Oh! Madam. It’s been a while.”

“Sir Knox, what’s wrong?”

Emily also welcomed Knox, who greeted her first in a friendly manner.

“Haha, you remember me.”

It's even harder to forget someone whose first impression was so unique. Emily nodded vaguely and smiled.

Killian, who came out to the noisy noise, frowned as soon as he saw Knox.

“Who invited you?”

Knox slumped his shoulders as if he were quite disappointed by Killian's cold reaction.

“I came in a hurry because Giovanni asked me to come, but why is your reaction like this?”

“Giovanni....”

Killian's aura was ominous. Knox, unsure of what it was, glanced around the mansion, offering his condolences to Giovanni.

At that time, butler Alvin, who was carrying fruit up to the study, was caught on Knox's radar.

"Hey, Alvin! What are you doing here? Didn't you say you were going to clean up District 7?"

“No... Knox?”

Alvin's shoulders flinched, and he dropped the tray. It was the first mistake of his butler life. Knox nonchalantly picked up the tangerine that had rolled to his feet and peeled it.

“Mmm~ It’s sweet.”

Emily tilted her head as she listened to Knox and Alvin's conversation.

“Clearing out District 7?”

Killian's back began to ache. He rubbed the back of his neck and turned his head. Alvin, feeling a bit uneasy, quickly tried to cover Knox's mouth.

But he had already spotted the maids passing by down the stairs and was greeting them cheerfully.

"Cezanne, Chili, and Roxy are here too. What are they all wearing? Are they trying to infiltrate the Giuliano family?"

The three maids looked up, startled by Knox's voice. "Oh my goodness, that rascal exposed our identities in front of the madam?"

“Infiltrating the Giuliano family?”

Emily, who had only just realized what was happening, began to hiccup in shock. Roughly speaking, Knox was saying that all the servants in the house were mafia members of the Starr family!

“Damn it. Knox, shut up!”

As the madam's face turned pale, Alvin, who had been fidgeting, finally succeeded in covering Knox's mouth.

“Ugh, ugh!”

“Alvin, pull him out quickly.”

Alvin, feeling anxious as Killian gritted his teeth and gave orders, ended up carrying him on his shoulders and running down the stairs.

“Ugh! Why are you suddenly like this!”

Knox, who was being dragged away without even knowing anything, seemed to feel wronged and continued to shout while hanging on to his shoulder.

“You need to explain why you bullied me and brought me here! Hey!”

But there was no one here to leisurely explain the situation to him. The three maids quickly locked the door and left as soon as Alvin had sent Knox out of the castle.

A silence fell between Killian and Emily.

“Let me explain.”

“Yes... Hiccup.”

Now it was time for Killian's mafia training.

Alvin, who had returned to the study, took out some new fruit and placed it on the table.

“Would you like Earl Grey tea?”

"Yes."

Alvin's pupils fluttered as Emily timidly addressed him.

“Ma, ma’am....”

When he was too shocked to speak, Killian stepped in to speak for him.

“Treat Alvin and the other servants as you always have.”

“But Alvin isn’t your average butler. And neither are the others...”

When Emily still looked uncomfortable, Killian nervously ran his hand through his hair.

Whether it was Giovanni or Knox, he was only thinking about taking down the first one who caught his eye. He motioned for Alvin to leave, but he left with a tearful expression.

“I apologize for not telling you first.”

Emily scratched her cheek, surprised by his apology.

“It is difficult to arbitrarily select people because spies may be involved.”

"Ah."

If it were a mafia, not an ordinary citizen, it could have easily sent a spy from another gang.

'Wait a minute, then I'm in danger too?'

She recalled how, in the original, the Giuliano family had been eyeing her life. As Emily suddenly wrapped her arms around her neck protectively, Killian watched her with concerned eyes.

'There could be other threats besides this one.'

This time, he tried to calm Emily down by calling her name carefully, as she trembled with her fists clenched.

“Emily.”

"Yes, yes! I'm fine. I understand perfectly well. I guess that's inevitable. Perhaps I need someone to protect me? I'm the weakest in this family."

Killian, who was momentarily speechless at Emily's rapid-fire words, opened his mouth heavily.

“...The people who serve you are the most skilled.”

Emily pressed her palm to her chest in relief.

“That’s good then.”

“Is it okay to keep the people who are serving us without replacing them?”

“Of course.”

Killian, who had been half-believing in her quick change of stance, smiled bitterly as if he had realized something.

Emily feared her life would be in danger because she married a mafia man. Killian's worries deepened as he thought she might regret marrying him.

How can I reassure you that I can protect you at least?
