Queen of Villains - Chapter 5

Killian didn't want to reveal that he was a mafia member in front of Emily.

It was clear that she, as an ordinary noblewoman, would fear or despise the mafia like everyone else.

Do you really need to remind her, who was forced to marry you for money, that she married a mafia man?

But Emily blinked, waiting for them to introduce themselves. Killian swallowed a sigh and opened his mouth.

“...these are my subordinates.”

Knox and Chambers, who came to greet them at the table, were tall, well-built executives within the organization.

In particular, Knox has known Killian since childhood, and is one of the few close friends who treat him comfortably, but is also a bit of a nerd.

Emily greeted him, relieved that even though he was a mafia, his face didn't look so bad.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Emily Starr.”

Although her demeanor was shy, she spoke her name clearly and made eye contact with them, displaying a confident air. Interest flashed across Knox's eyes.

"I'm Knox, and this guy with glasses is Chambers. He looks smart because he wears glasses, but he's actually not that smart."

Chambers was a handsome scholar-type man with silver hair and glasses, but as Knox said, he was better at fighting than strategizing.

“Still, I'm smarter than Knox.”

“That’s definitely true.”

Knox sat down next to Emily, laughing, without really denying Chambers's words. And naturally, Chambers sat down next to Killian.

As Killian tried to stand up to shoo away the intruder, Emily waved her hand and stopped him.

"It's okay."

She found the situation uncomfortable, but not unpleasant. She even found it mildly amusing.

No one around Emily spoke in that way. The nobles always wore similar masks.

"As expected, you're a kind-hearted person. It's a shame to live with someone like this."

Killian tried to respond to Knox's words, but stopped himself. He was a man who got more excited and talked more when he was interacting with him.

“When you said you would marry the daughter of the Sinope family for the past few years, I thought it was nonsense, but who would have thought that it would actually happen?”

A moment of silence fell over the table at Knox's remark. Killian immediately regretted not stopping the ramblings.

“...Since how many years ago?”

Had he known her long before he sent her the proposal? A confused expression crossed Emily's face.

Killian struggled with what to say.

Wouldn't it be creepy for Emily if the Mafia told her that they had been interested in her for eight years?

Fortunately, Chambers was a man who understood his feelings.

He stepped forward and explained in Killian's place.

“Killian has been trying to marry a noble lady for several years, and you were the most likely candidate.”

Emily smiled vaguely at those words. Now she understood why he had married her.

“Ah, so you needed a noble background.”

She'll take back the word "fortunate." Neither this bastard nor that bastard was of any help to Killian.

“Chambers.”

“Yes, please speak.”

“Take Knox and go back to your seat.”

Chambers, who believed he had saved Killian from danger, couldn't understand why he was so angry, but nodded, looking at his murderous eyes.

“Then I’ll see you next time.”

But Knox, who was less perceptive than Chambers, remained awkwardly pressed against the table and made no attempt to move.

“Knox, please wake up.”

“Huh? I still have more to say.”

Finally, Chambers forced him to stand and intertwined his hands. It was the act Knox most loathed, yet also a way of showing weakness.

“I’ll figure it out, so just untie this!”

Knox struggled to pull his hand away, twisting his body as if he were contemptuous.

“That can’t be.”

“You should hit him instead, you little shit. People are watching!”

“Don’t you think it’s because you’re being noisy?”

"Shit!"

Their bickering continued until they sat down.

Emily, who had seen the amusing sight, blinked and looked up at Killian.

“Would you like to introduce other people to me?”

Killian tried to ignore Emily's sparkling eyes and answered firmly.

“No, never.”

This kind of headache-inducing encounter was enough.

But unfortunately, he had no idea that an even more troublesome guy would show up the next day.

Killian, who had been with Emily all day, was busy catching up on work from dawn the next day. Emily, too, was busy from morning until she fell asleep at her desk for a moment.

“I... Madam...”

Then, the servant cautiously called Emily. It seemed he had called her several times from the side, not daring to shake her awake.

“I dozed off for a bit. What happened?”

“A guest has arrived.”

“Guest? Are you talking to me?”

It was understandable that Emily would be curious, as there weren't many guests who would come to see her.

“That... is the master’s nephew.”

Only then did Emily recall a memory. Killian's nephew, named John, had left the Starr family and founded a new organization when Daniel was designated as his successor.

But in the end, he was also an unfortunate character who lost his life after being shot by Daniel's subordinate.

Emily straightened her hair, which had become disheveled from a brief nap, and smoothed out her wrinkled skirt. She felt a pang of excitement as she went down to meet the boy.

As she opened the door to the living room and went in, the child sitting on the sofa suddenly sat up.

“Hello, Aunt.”

He must have been about seven years old. John was a handsome boy with blond, brown hair and green eyes.

His eyes were bright and intelligent, and his lively cheeks were very lovely.

“It’s nice to meet you like this.”

In fact, John wasn't Killian's biological nephew. He was a child entrusted to him by his older brother, who had cared for him like a younger brother.

Since John also knew that fact, he may have felt a sense of crisis about his position due to Killian's marriage.

“By the way, did you come to the wedding?”

“No, my uncle didn’t invite me.”

“Oh my, why did you do that?”

“I think it’s because he's afraid my presence might make my aunt uncomfortable.”

Seeing the child's appearance, completely devastated, I felt sorry for John, regardless of the original story.

"That's not true at all, so don't think like that. Then where are you now?"

“I’m staying at a boarding school.”

Emily tilted her head.

“Aren’t you still young?”

“It’s okay. There are a lot of kids my age.”

“No matter what, I still feel bad.”

Emily's genuine concern made the boy feel lightheaded.

“But did you come all the way here from boarding school alone?”

Emily was quite surprised that a seven-year-old child had come all the way from boarding school to the mansion alone. She wasn't usually a bright child.

“It’s vacation time, so I sent a letter to my uncle, but it seems like it didn’t arrive.”

"Well, I haven't heard anything from him either, so I guess he didn't get a letter. So you're staying here during the vacation, then?"

“If you are uncomfortable, I will look for another place.”

John spoke, still keeping his hands neatly placed on his knees, watching Emily's expression.

"No, not at all. I said it because I wanted you to stay here."

Only then did a smile quickly spread across the child's face.

"Thank you!"

Emily also smiled happily and stroked John's head.

Meanwhile, the butler's face became distorted as he came up in a hurry after hearing the news that Madam and John were together.

It was absurd to see that arrogant kid pretending to be innocent in front of Emily.

When Killian heard the news and came home, John had already finished eating and was having tea time with Emily in the garden.

“That’s ridiculous.”

Killian's expression hardened as he watched the two from afar.

“That’s what I mean.”

Giovanni also stuck out his tongue at John's actions.

John was giggling as he ate a cream puff filled with custard cream, his mouth covered in it. Emily smiled at him, finding the child adorable, and wiped his mouth herself.

These two could have been hanged for spilling the cream on purpose.

“Aren’t you going to go?”

“I have to go.”

When Killian came out into the garden, Emily and John's laughter could be heard outside, as if they had become so close.

“You came earlier than I expected.”

Emily was the first to spot Killian and greet him. John, who had been laughing with him, tried to keep his smile as polite as possible.

“Uncle, it’s been a while.”

“Yeah. What’s going on without any contact?”

Emily frowned at Killian's attitude. Seeing him act so bluntly, she realized why John was so twisted in the original.

She explained the situation to Killian instead of John.

“John sent you a letter. Didn’t you get it? He said it’s vacation time.”

One thing is certain: Killian did not receive a letter from John.

And he could have hung up the rest of his life on the fact that John hadn't sent him a letter. But what could he do? He'd be the one who'd end up being the one making a fool of himself by arguing in front of Emily.

“Little one, look at me for a second.”

At those words, John got down from his chair and ran to Emily's side.

"I'm tired from the long carriage ride today, so Emily decided to sing me a lullaby. If it's not important, can we talk about it tomorrow?"

“Emily?”

Killian's eyebrows twitched at the friendly address.

"Lullaby?"

Giovanni, who was behind him, also muttered and frowned.

“I told him to call me by my name.”

Emily fell hard for that kid's trick. A look of disappointment crossed Killian and Giovanni's faces.

“John is tired today, so let’s talk tomorrow, or you can tell me.”

“Then can we go up to our room now?”

Before he knew it, John was holding Emily's hand and acting cute.

“...Then let’s talk tomorrow.”

“Yes, see you tomorrow.”

Killian, feeling somehow like an intruder between the two, couldn't say anything more. Emily and John went up to their room together in a friendly atmosphere.

She's rather hang out with that sly, cunning brat than with that screwy, cunning brat.

“Shall I call Knox?”

Giovanni seemed to have the same idea. But it was a headache differently.

“First, let’s try another method.”

"All right."

Killian went up to the study to cool his pounding head.

Fortunately, the next day was the second training session he had promised Emily. Killian muttered darkly.

'I have to get that kid off her somehow.'
