IYDGMYD - Chapter 75

The front yard of the office was packed with people.

Among them were those who looked like merchants, but there were also beggar boys, old women, and three-year-old children.

Most of them were so absorbed in the splendid palace they were seeing for the first time that they didn't even know why they had been brought there.

Some people were excited as if they were going on a trip, and others were taking out food from their luggage and sharing it with those around them.

It was a sight reminiscent of a market.

“What is this, Dnieper?”

“While tracking down the treasure, so many people were caught, Sister.”

“Why?”

Dnieper pointed to a beggar boy among the crowd.

“That child was given a ring by an unknown traveler, and he ran to the bakery with it to buy some bread and eat it.”

Then he pointed to a man next to the boy.

He was wearing an apron covered in flour and egg.

"That man, a baker, felt sorry for the boy and gave him some bread in exchange for the jewel. At first, he thought it was fake and left it on the counter for a few days. Then, when a customer recognized it and was surprised, he sent it to an appraisal."

After that, appraisers, jewelers, and auction house employees were involved one after another.

“The old woman also found her grandson playing with a bracelet that had fallen on the street, and tried to find the owner of it...”

Dnieper pointed to each person and explained.

One merchant said that a man who appeared to be a southern farmer had brought part of a diamond necklace and sold it to him as a family heirloom, and one arms dealer said that a traveler who had bought several weapons had traded for gold instead of cash.

The more she listened to Dnieper's explanation, the more amazing it became.

Kavala was confused as to what the gypsy woman was doing with those expensive jewels.

Most of the jewels were traded at cheap prices and were even used for charity.

And what's even stranger is...

"The treasures have been discovered in various locations, not just the north, but also the south, west, and east. Some say they were brought in by travelers, others say they were taken out by local leaders, and still others say they were found by chance."

The sources were all unclear, and the scope of the discovery was too broad.

Kavala gems were traded throughout the continent.

“Is this the work of that gypsy woman?”

How can wandering gypsies move in such an organized manner?

Moreover, she couldn't help but feel that the way they hid the identities of those who handed over the jewels was like that of trained individuals.

Dnieper conveyed his thoughts with a stern face.

“I guess... we need to investigate again, keeping in mind the possibility that the culprit is someone else...”

"Shut up."

Kavala gritted her teeth and muttered, but eventually she couldn't contain her anger and started cursing.

“Shut your mouth! Shut it! Aaak!”

The people in the yard looked at Kavala for her evil deeds.

They didn't know who she was, and they were muttering.

“Why is it like that?”

"Who is this?"

“You seem like a noble lady, yet you shout so rudely.”

“What could it be?”

Kavala felt even more disgusted as she watched them gossip without even knowing what they had done.

“Take them all away!”

Dnieper asked uncertainly.

“Should I get rid of it?”

Kavala kicked Dnieper's shin mercilessly with the tip of his pointed shoe.

“Ugh!”

Kavala spoke softly from above Dnieper's head, who was bent over.

“You’re talking nonsense, Dnieper.”

Her eyes were murderous.

"If I kill that many people at once, won't the world know it was my doing! You stupid idiot, that's why you've been like this all this time! Do you want to be kicked out again and become a mercenary?"

Then, stomping her feet, she stormed into the building.

Her heavy breathing could be heard all the way to the end of the hallway.

The insulted Dnieper clenched his fist.

It was a sight of his trying hard to control his emotions.

***

Callius heard that the men he had sent to dispose of the treasures of Kavala were returning.

The report delivered via the messenger didn't contain much, but Callius could tell just by looking at the excited handwriting flying by how well his men were carrying out their orders and returning.

'Chloe would love that.'

Chloe, who ordered this smokescreen operation, emphasized that money was not the goal and even destroyed the jewels in front of Callius.

Chloe's face was filled with joy as she happily destroyed the beautiful jewels.

It was as if she was shouting to someone inwardly, 'Cry and be resentful!'

Even without her directly saying who it was or what her revenge was for, Callius seemed to know just by looking at her expression.

'I think Kavala is a bit heated.'

What else could it be but to enjoy destroying the jewels of Kabbalah?

Cutely enough, Chloe seemed to believe that if she kept it a secret, no one would know.

'If Brentian had seen that, he would have been devastated to learn the truth about the person he suspected.'

Brentian was like a cunning fox who suspects that a naive rabbit actually has a wildcat inside it.

Callius chuckled and quickly finished the last of the papers he had to look at before getting up from his seat.

'I have to tell Chloe that things went well.'

Last night had been a failure, but tonight he vowed to make her smile, and he headed to her bedroom.

***

I sent Lamia home early from work, who was tired, and went to the dormitory alone to sit in front of the fireplace.

The wood in the fireplace crackled and burned.

I warmed my hands, which were as cold as ice, by the fire.

As I looked at the fire, my mind became dazed, and various thoughts crossed my mind.

'I'm dealing with a Kavala spy.'

Even if I think about it myself, I looked pretty cool earlier.

'I can't believe I did that all by myself.'

Didn't I find the real culprit who killed Vanessa through my own judgment and determination, without hiding behind anyone?

'I can do it too!'

My confidence was overflowing.

'You're doing pretty well.'

Since going back in time, I have been gradually achieving my goals and making progress.

Everything is going well.

However.

'Why is my heart so heavy?'

I put my hand on my chest.

I felt my breathing shallow and labored.

Whenever I'm alone, I get so anxious.

Loneliness and fear seemed to be dragging me into a deep sleep.

Death.

When I closed my eyes, the last image of Vanessa I saw in the maids' quarters came back to me clearly.

'Would I have died like that too?'

My face overlapped with Vanessa's.

Was I like that, too, dragged away by Andrea's knights and mocked to death in the dark forest?

I shuddered as I imagined myself dead.

'I can't believe Vanessa is dead.'

Vanessa, who had been living a normal life until just a moment ago, was complaining about all sorts of things.

She was never a good person to me, but she was someone I always saw up close.

When I thought about that person dying, all sorts of thoughts about death came to mind.

An indescribable hardship weighed heavily on my body, leaving me gasping for breath.

'Someone help me.'

It was a time when I was earnestly hoping for something.

“Chloe, are you okay?”

My savior, Karl, appeared before me without fail.

I sat on the chair and checked Karl's face behind the back of the chair, then hurriedly pulled the blanket off my lap.

“Karl...! It’s you! You came at the right time. I was waiting for you!”

"I heard one of your maids was murdered. I came running as soon as I heard people whispering. Are you okay?"

His face was full of worry.

My nose stung when I heard that he had come running straight for me.

As soon as I saw Karl, my lips started to move in a pouty manner, and tears welled up in my eyes.

“Karl, there is today...”

I wanted to tell him that today was such a hard day, that I couldn't understand the difficult feelings that were filling my heart.

I wanted to be hugged by him like a child and cry for comfort.

But at that moment, I got up from the rocking chair in front of the fireplace and was about to approach the sword to hug it.

Knock out.

A soft knock was heard.

“I’m entering, Chloe.”

The door opposite the door with Karl, the door leading to Callius's room, opened, and Callius entered the bedroom.
