CYSWTF - Chapter 113

Episode 113. Maid Kalin Ankart

“Your Highness, what’s wrong?”

“I called you because I wanted to see you. Right now, I’m not feeling well, and you’re ignoring me, so I can’t stand it.”

“Why are you not feeling well?”

“Because I was defeated by Brother Orl!”

Locard raised one corner of his mouth and answered.

“It was just one loss. Your Highness is still winning.”

“Is the victory or defeat of the war determined by the number of victories? What matters is the one game that determines the outcome. Are you treating me like a child right now?”

Grayon’s irritation was sharper than usual. So Locard decided that now was the time to take a break.

Just because it’s war doesn’t mean you have to fight every day. Sometimes you rest to conserve strength and reorganize your base and supplies. You rest when it rains or snows.

And Locard now had something new and important to do. Other than swallowing Tagar’s complaints one by one.

He looked into Grayon’s eyes and said seriously.

“Your Highness, I am married.”

“I know. It’s all my fault.”

“Ha.”

Locard slapped his knee in disbelief, asking if he knew.

“Did you receive my gift?”

“My vassals were so envious of the fine horse you sent them. Thank you. I will ride with Lorisha.”

It was time to ask about his first night with her bride. Locard prepared himself mentally.

However, Grayon thought about his words for a moment and said sharply.

“Did you send Milliora a wedding gift?”

“No.”

“Then go to the Third Palace. You will hear interesting stories.”

“Pack your bags and enter the palace.”

When Kalin received the message from Viscount Rene, she clenched her fist without realizing it. Her tiresome fight was over.

‘Finally...!’

She bit her lip so as not to be overwhelmed by the excitement of her final victory. Because she wanted to go forward with an absolutely calm face.

What she should have accomplished a long time ago, coming back this far.

But the real start was now. She called all the maids and made them pack their bags, steeling her resolve.

When Kalin hurriedly entered the palace, it was not Viscount Rene who greeted her, but the chief maid.

The chief maid tried to challenge Kalin with a gaze that seemed to be suppressing her. However, Kalin was oblivious to her and focused on controlling her excitement.

After all, the upper hand in power was hers. The chief maid is nothing.

She thought that since she was the new maid of Orl, Prince Grayon also had to bring in one more servant. She had to adjust the number of servants in order to have a fair competition.

Kalin wondered who would take that position.

The chief maid was displeased with Kalin, who seemed lost in thought rather than nervous in front of her, and said as if warning her.

“Follow me.”

“Where is Viscount Rene?”

“Follow me.”

The chief maid snorted and went into the palace. Only then did Kalin focus on the back of the chief maid.

‘That old lady, I won’t leave you alone.’

Kalin took a deep breath in front of the magnificent door that arrived a while later. Taking in the feminine atmosphere of the villa that she had never seen before, she thought that she had come to greet the Empress. It was a natural procedure.

When Eria opened the door, Kalin went inside with the most elegant gesture she could.

The chief maid opened her mouth wide when Kalin, who was supposed to follow her, passed her and went in first.

However, the chief maid only smiled faintly and didn’t say much. In her long career, there had been only one or two maids like this. The splendid and glittering objects in the reception room overwhelmed Kalin’s vision.

Miliora, who was sitting on the sofa, slowly got up and approached Kalin when she saw her. Every step, her gestures were innately elegant.

“...!”

This was not the Empress’s palace but the Princess’s palace. Kalin opened her eyes and mouth wide in surprise when she discovered Milliora.

‘Princess Milliora? Why...?’

Kalin was so flustered that she missed the chance to bow, and Milliora’s steps suddenly quickened as she approached her.

Milliora used all the strength in her upper body to swing her arm. With a ‘Crack!’ sound, she slapped Kalin’s cheek, and with the rotational force of recovering her arm, she slapped her again.

Kalin, who had been slapped four times in an instant, sat down on the spot with disheveled hair. Aside from the cracking sound, she didn’t even shed tears of surprise.

Milliora looked down at Kalin and shouted.

“You seem to think I’m some stupid royal who can’t even remember the clothes I just picked out, but what can I do? I remember what you did perfectly. Kalin Ankart.”

“I, I...”

Kalin opened her mouth, unable to finish her sentence.

Her body responded to the pain by shedding tears, but her head didn’t fully understand the situation she was in.

Milliora threw the servant’s medal onto Kalin’s chest and said.

“Now, from now on, you are my maid. The first thing you have to do is be on guard. If I see you leaving your room and wandering around the palace, you will be punished, so know that.”

“I...”

“Eria!”

Eria immediately ran in and bowed. It had been a long time since the Princess had acted this way, so Eria was also flustered.

“What are you doing, not cleaning your room?”

As soon as Eria helped Kalin out of the room, the chief maid bowed her head in apology and followed her.

The Princess snickered. Judging from the expression on the head maid’s face, Kalin was no different from the grim reaper.

The Princess immediately called Eria back.

“Your Highness.”

“What about the gift?”

“Yes?”

“It’s Lorisha’s wedding gift.”

“They said it would be ready in a few days at the latest!”

Eria was scared, but Miliora smiled brightly, feeling better after the chaos that had just occurred.

“You can’t be any later, okay? I’m expecting it. I’ll check and then tell Lorisha to come.”

“Yes, Your Highness. But the new maid...”

The Princess frowned again and said.

“Give that girl a room without windows. Don’t touch Lorisha’s room.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

Eria hurriedly left.

In the meantime, Kalin, who had been in the anteroom, had roughly fixed her hair. However, bruises were starting to form on her cheeks, and her appearance had not improved at all.

Even though Kalin Ankart was the daughter of a famous, rich man and an excellent talent who maintained the second place in the Academy, to the head maid, she was just a new maid who needed to be tamed.

The head maid did not show even a shred of sympathy to Kalin and spoke coldly.

“You must now go and greet Her Majesty the Empress.”

Kalin lifted her chin as if trying to recover her damaged pride.

“Where is my maid?”

Kalin needed a maid right away to fix her disheveled hair and cover up the bruises on her face with makeup.

However, the head maid snorted as if to tell her to listen, and Kalin bit her lip hard in response.

“Nothing like that, maid. We don’t have time, so follow me.”

“Not now.”

The head maid stopped and turned around at Kalin’s sharp answer.

The head maid was thin and tall, so she could look down at Kalin without any effort.

“What did you say just now?”

“Look at me. I was assaulted. I can’t meet Her Majesty the Empress like this. Ouch!”

Kalin's head snapped back.

Kalin couldn't believe that the head maid had just slapped her again. She trembled in shock and said,

"Are you... crazy?"

"Saying that the punishment given by Tagar was some kind of heinous crime, how basic!"

"You hit me just now? And you're still safe..."

"How many people do you think I've seen like you, Miss Ankart?"

"Ha...!"

Kalin kept her mouth shut because of her instinctive wariness.

The head maid wasn't afraid of her at all. In this jungle that was the palace, it was the behavior of someone certain that she was a predator.

Kalin wondered what mistake she had just made. No matter how much she thought about it, it was clear that she had fallen into a trap.

The head maid spoke coldly.

“Even those from nobler families than you, and the best graduates of the Academy, all bowed humbly here. You are here to serve Her Highness the Princess. Don’t expect any special treatment.”

After finishing her words, the chief maid went behind Kalin and touched Kalin’s disheveled hair. Then she took the lead.

Kalin followed the chief maid, her soul gone. Shame about how she looked now rose with every step, but she couldn’t stop.

Kalin gritted her teeth and walked, soon finding a vantage point for herself.

The Empress, who had received the one and only bribe worth ten million gold, couldn’t ignore her appearance.

When she entered the Empress’s palace, she resolved not to let the chief maid touch her if she met the Empress.

“I have brought the new maid of the Princess’s palace, Kalin Ankart, Your Majesty, the Empress.”

When the chief maid introduced Kalin to the Empress, the Empress put down her glass after seeing Kalin’s flushed cheeks.

Then the chief maid said,

“I am on my way to see Her Highness the Princess.”

Then the Empress nodded slightly as if she understood everything and said,

“Please take good care of Milliora from now on.”

“...!”

That was the end of her audience with the Empress. Kalin was so overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the Empress’s palace that she ended up leaving without saying a word.
