IWAEBS - Chapter 166 < Insignificant Lives >

“Haaah... ah!”

“Miss, Miss! Are you okay?”

Roxana, who had drunk the red potion, slowly grimaced with a painful expression after a few minutes, and eventually grabbed Nancy’s arm next to her and sank to the floor.

“Logan, why is our young lady like this?!”

“Didn’t I tell you? The red potion has different side effects for each person, but one common reaction is pain.”

Logan looked down at Roxana, who was groaning with wide eyes, and said coldly.

“For your information, Empress Zelda’s face was directly touched by the red potion, and the pain was several times worse than what you are experiencing now.”

Roxana gritted her teeth to consciously endure the pain at Logan’s words.

“Besides, the Empress was young. And back then, I was just starting to develop the red potion, so the side effects were more severe.”

“So what do you want me to do! Are you telling me to endure the pain I’m experiencing now because it’s nothing compared to the Empress’s?”

Roxana glared at Logan, sweating profusely.

She felt terribly uncomfortable being compared to Empress Zelda.

“That can’t be true. That’s what they say.”

Logan said, gently placing his hands on her bandaged thighs.

“But isn’t there a medicine that can relieve the pain?”

Roxana tilted her head again and asked nervously.

“I’m sorry, but the pain after drinking the red potion is unavoidable.”

“My back, my back hurts so much. What’s going on?”

Roxana shouted, stretching her shoulders back as if she were pinching her back.

“Oh... does your back hurt, Your Highness?”

Logan asked profoundly and then explained.

“There is a high probability that pain will occur in places where there were injuries or bad parts of your body. It is said that Empress Zelda also felt a surge of heat in that area after the red potion was poured on the right side of her face and burned. It must be the same now.”

“Then my back has whip scars, so my back hurts so much... ugh!”

“Oh my, look at all this sweat. Oh my, miss!”

Nancy fidgeted and wiped the sweat from Roxana’s face and neck with a handkerchief.

“Nancy, look at my back, my back. I think my back is burning right now. Quickly!”

Roxana bent down and placed both palms on the floor.

At her command, Nancy looked at Logan, and he turned his head away.

Only then did Nancy hastily unzip Roxana’s dress.

“Huh! What the...!”

Roxana’s back showed the scars from the whippings she had suffered from her father.

Dozens of red scars were visible like blood vessels.

“What’s wrong? Is my back really burning?”

Roxana asked, glancing at Nancy’s surprised breathing.

Judging from the pain, it was clear that her back was burning like fire.

“Ah. Miss... You’ve got scars from the whipping...”

Nancy couldn’t bring herself to say that the scars looked like red spider webs.

“What?! Logan! What’s going on? Why are there scars on my back? I’m taking the healing water, so they shouldn’t be visible!”

Roxana was extremely excited.

She was suddenly scared, knowing how horrible the scars on her back were.

“Hmm, I guess the side effects are showing up on your back.”

“Then should I take more healing water?”

“I’m sorry, but the healing water won’t work anymore. ”

“What? Then? ”

“You’ll have to take magic potions from now on, too.”

“The same potion that Empress Zelda takes?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Isn’t there a cure?”

If you had a complete body, you wouldn’t have to take magic potions regularly, and you wouldn’t have this pain.

Roxana asked Logan with a glimmer of anticipation.

'There's no way.'

Logan opened his mouth, thinking to himself.

But.

"Unfortunately, there isn't one at the moment."

"There's no cure? Haa..."

Logan stared blankly at Roxana's despairing expression.

He felt the wound where Roxana had stuck the dagger into his thigh healing on its own.

"Everyone, stay where you are!"

Everyone froze in their places at my shout.

"If we leave here, the people inside the star shape will sink further down."

Those on top looked down at those inside the star with frightened expressions.

“We’re still here, and I think we should call for help here.”

said Empress Elan on my left.

“I think so too.”

As I nodded in agreement, Melanie and Rosie shouted at the door at the same time.

“Help!”

“There’s someone here!”

At that moment, the door to the passageway connected to the kitchen we came in through slammed shut with a ‘thud!’ In the distance,

“What the hell, what kind of idiot is closing the door again when we came in?”

said Melanie, jumping up.

“Oh, is it designed so that if you scream here, the door will automatically close? Using resonance...”

I guessed right.

The louder you screamed, the faster the door seemed to close.

To make matters worse, the wine cellar door was slowly moving sideways.

“If that door closes too, we’ll be trapped here, right?”

asked Rosie, covering her mouth.

Sadly, it seemed likely at the moment.

But if we could just get out of here, even if the kitchen door couldn’t be opened again, there was a way out of the monastery. Right across from where we came in was another door leading out of the monastery.

The key was to get out before the wine cellar door closed.

‘Let’s find a way.’

I looked around the cellar carefully.

There might be a hint of escape in this cellar.

“Your Majesty, I’m very careful to tell you this, but I think we don’t have much time left to choose.”

Empress Elan hesitated and said to me.

“Time to choose?”

I asked back, knowing what Empress Elan meant.

“If we stay here, that door will close. What happens after that... I don’t need to tell you.”

Empress Elan was right.

If that happens, we could be completely isolated here.

“However, if the six people who are standing on the top step off now, everyone in the star shape will die.”

At my answer, Pecilini and the servants inside the star shape looked up at the people standing on the top with desperate eyes, begging them not to abandon them.

“We have to get out!”

Princess Resilia shouted firmly.

The Princess was in a position where she could escape the storage room by just taking five steps back.

“So are you saying we should let the people inside the star shape die?”

Rosie glared at Princess Resilia in anger.

“We are all nobles. We are different from them.”

Princess Resilia glanced down at the people inside the star shape and answered Rosie.

The people below, except for Pecilini, were all servants, so they immediately understood what the Princess meant.

Pecilini looked up at Princess Resilia and became angry.

“Princess! How can you say such a thing? Do I look like a servant to you?”

I didn’t like either of them.

Does the value of life decrease if you are of a low status?

No. It doesn’t.

Even if there is a difference in status, the value of life is not related to class.

Princess Resilia ignored Pecilini’s protest, pretending not to hear it.

She seemed ready to run out the door behind her at any moment.

“I’ll say it again, if even one of you acts selfishly, Pecilini, Sharon, Misha, and Hedon could be in danger. So please stay in your place.”

I said, looking especially at Princess Resilia with an appealing look.

“So, are you saying we should all die together?”

This time, Catherine asked me with a displeased expression.

“There must be a way...”

Since there was no other way right now, that was all I could say.

Even as we were talking, the door to the wine cellar was slowly closing.

Princess Resilia turned around and said urgently.

“It’s already half-closed! Think about it, someone, come up with a solution! I don’t want to die here!”

Yes, when a crisis comes, a person’s true character is revealed.

I thought as I looked at Princess Resilia.

“Do you think I’m just sitting here because I want to die?”

Melanie said for me.

Princess Resilia immediately countered her words.

“I’m not saying this because you’re wasting time!”

“Huh? Why are you suddenly talking nonsense? I’m already upset!”

Melanie looked ready to rush at Princess Resilia.

“Both of you are being noisy.”

I suppressed the urge to shout as I looked around the walls of the storage.

“That’s why I said, find a way!”

Melanie didn’t back down from Princess Resilia’s sharp words.

“The Empress told you to shut up, shut up, shut up!”

“You shut up! How can a concubine tell a Princess what to do?”

I left the two of them arguing behind and calmly looked around the storage again, concentrating on my thoughts.

I put my foot on the top, and when I lift it, the star shape collapses.

No matter how brilliant the abbot had been in designing the trap, he probably couldn’t have made a device that could distinguish whether the weight pressing down on the top was a person or an object.

So, wouldn’t it be okay to put a heavy object on the top and then pull up the people inside the star shape one by one to get out of here?

In order to do that, at least one person had to step off the top.

Instead, I should find something heavy to place on top of the star in a short time.

That way, I could slow down the star’s sinking into the ground.

I quickly looked around to see if there was anything I could place on the top.

The large oak barrel was too far away from where we were.

Oh, there!

I could see a relatively small oak barrel just to the right of where Princess Resilia was standing.

Could the Princess move something that big?

I thought I could move that oak barrel to her place first, have her switch places with me, and then move the oak barrels to the remaining five peaks as quickly as I could.

At that moment, Princess Resilia declared,

“I can’t wait any longer.”

“Are you going to leave alone without any loyalty?”

Rosie put her hands on her hips and grumbled.

“I don’t want to die here! Why should I be sacrificed for these insignificant lives?”

Princess Resilia said, clearly defining the star-shaped people as insignificant lives.

“Where are the insignificant lives in here?”

I raised my voice to Princess Resilia without realizing it.

“Your Majesty, don’t pretend to be righteous for no reason. Why should we all die together when we can live?”

Princess Resilia cursed.

“Huh, you must be saying that because there is no servant here.”

Melanie sneered at Princess Resilia.

“No? I would have said the same thing if my servant were there. No matter how many years I have spent with my servant, trivial things are trivial. Stop acting hypocritical!”

Princess Resilia said with confidence.

Knowing the true nature of the Princess, I was not shocked by her words, but the other concubines, Empress Elan, and the servants seemed somewhat surprised by her cold words.

“Don’t get excited and listen to me.”

I suppressed my anger and began to persuade Princess Resilia.

“There is a way. Princess, look to the back right. Do you see the small oak barrel? Place it on top of your head and then swap places with me.”

“You are asking me to step away from here and swap places with Her Majesty the Empress?”

Princess Resilia asked incredulously.

“You have to move one barrel under the feet of the other five. I think we can all survive if we put down something that can feel the weight under our feet!”

“What do you believe in me? You can say that and go out alone, right?”

Princess Resilia suspected me even though she knew I wouldn’t do it.

“That would never happen!”

I said it clearly, but she didn’t seem to believe me.

No, even if she did, she seemed reluctant to do it.

“Then, Princess Resilia, do you want to move it? Can you move five oak barrels quickly? Before that door closes?”

Rosie asked Princess Resilia as if she was demanding, but the Princess couldn’t answer.

She knew very well that she didn’t have the energy to move several barrels.

“Please... that’s the only way right now.”

There was no time.

The door was halfway closed.

Everyone looked at Princess Resilia with desperate eyes.

Princess Resilia looked thoughtful, then nodded her head as if she had made up her mind and turned to the small oak barrel.

“Yrs.”

As the Princess lifted her foot from the top, the circle began to slowly rotate into a star shape within the cube.

When the circle had completed one full rotation, the star shape would once again descend.

I had to move the oak barrel before I could make a full circle.

“Hurry up!”

I shouted at Princess Resilia, who was struggling with her arms wrapped around the barrel.

“You’re wrong. It won’t move, it won’t move at all!”

“Then switch places with me, quickly!”

“...I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.”

said Princess Resilia, slowly backing away.

Everyone was shocked and stared at the Princess with expressions that made them wonder if they could do it.

“What are you, what are you doing? Are you trying to run away alone?!”

Melanie was so angry that her eyes popped out, and Catherine also exploded.

“Don’t do something stupid! If you can’t move the barrel, switch places with Her Majesty the Empress! Or just go back to where you were!”

“Look at this, Princess! It’s spinning right now! Are you crazy?”

Even the calm Empress Elan couldn’t hide her embarrassment.

Everyone said something to Princess Lesilia.

I tried appealing to her emotions, threatening her, and pleading with her, but I knew she would just leave the wine cellar alone.

Bad bitch!

“I’m smart! If you don’t want to die, you’d better follow me.”

Princess Resilia slipped through the door that was more than half-closed in an instant.
