INAS - Chapter 47

“...Master?”

The Crown Prince's expression became pale at the sudden title.

He seemed quite embarrassed, but that was his fault, and I had to enjoy the joy of escaping the brink of death.

I ran to the Crown Prince in one go, hugged his waist, and jumped.

“Wow, thank goodness. I thought I would die from overwork this time too, and I thought I would go crazy, but how did you come right on time! And you even jumped through the window! As expected of our Highness!”

“Wait a minute, Princess! Let go of this...!”

The Crown Prince was unusually timid, perhaps burdened by my excessive hospitality.

But I was so intoxicated with joy that I clung to him and didn't know how to leave.

“Long live our master! Long live! Long live!”

Eventually, the Crown Prince had to force me away.

“Let go!”

“Ah, I’m sorry... This time, I really thought I was dead, but I was so happy that I survived...”

As I laughed awkwardly, the Crown Prince sighed deeply and looked down at my body.

“Are you hurt anywhere?”

“No. If you had been even just one second late, I would have lost my head, but luckily, my master saved me in time.”

“Why do you keep saying that, master?”

The Crown Prince, who had been mumbling as if he couldn't understand, soon turned his gaze with a stern expression.

“But who is that man? How dare he invade the temple and attack the Saintess.”

The voice muttering behind me was extremely ominous.

Enough to instantly wake up the brain that had been unable to function for a moment due to being intoxicated with emotion.

“That’s right, assassin!”

I ran towards the assassin in a hurry.

'He's not dead, is he?'

He was the owner of the red eye, which was not even recorded in ancient books from thousands of years ago.

I couldn't just let it go like this.

“Hey, are you okay? Wake up!”

I roughly slapped the assassin on the cheek, but he didn't even flinch.

“Oh my... You didn’t kill him?”

When I shot him a pointed look, a look of bewilderment appeared on the Crown Prince's face.

Of course, why should I be complaining like this just because he killed the assassin who was threatening me?

What's amazing is that Delton seemed to be the same.

“Hey, what are you doing? You made a big fuss about you telling me not to kill him. And now I’m the only one who looks ridiculous because you’re distracted!”

Delton was furious at being attacked by a human who was much smaller and heavier than him.

But I turned a deaf ear to his words and looked back at the assassin.

I put my finger under my nose, but still couldn't feel any breath.

'No, maybe I'm too nervous to feel it.'

It was at that very moment that I, who had never given up hope, placed my ear against the assassin's chest.

“What are you doing now!”

The Crown Prince grabbed me by the waist and pulled me to his side.

“What if he’s still breathing? Why are you being so careless?”

To me, he might have said that out of concern, but to me now, it was just annoying nagging.

“Oh, that’s what I’m doing to check! Just stay still!”

I struggled with all my might to get away from the Crown Prince.

But the Crown Prince held my waist tightly in his hands and showed no intention of letting go.

“I really don’t know why this is happening.”

He clicked his tongue as if he couldn't understand at all and pushed me back.

“Please stay here and don’t move.”

Then he lowered his posture and placed his index and middle fingers on the assassin's nape.

“How is it? He’s not dead, is he? Is he still breathing?”

I nagged at him impatiently.

I don't care if he becomes disabled, but I just want to live, and I hope he can at least breathe so that he can open his mouth somehow.

But that was just a wish, and the reason was not very hopeful.

Because when I checked just a little while ago, I couldn't feel any reaction to stimulation or even breathing from the assassin.

'Ha, he must have died.'

But why is this happening?

“He's still breathing.”

“Oh, really?”

I opened my eyes wide at the unexpected words from the Crown Prince.

“Is he really alive?”

“Yes, I aimed for the vital spot, but luckily it missed slightly.”

"Oh my God."

I couldn't overcome the overwhelming emotion and collapsed to the floor.

“Thank you, Goddess. Thank you so much.”

The Crown Prince frowned at the sight of me sitting on the bare floor and repeatedly offering up prayers of thanks.

“No matter how much I try to understand, I can’t. Are you so happy that the assassin who tried to kill you survived?”

“Of course I’m happy! I finally found the enemy I’ve been looking for!”

“...What did you just say? Red Eye?”

“Yes, that’s right, that’s the red eye we’re looking for!”

His expression hardened in fear at my words, and he lowered his posture again. Then he opened the assassin's eyelids.

Soon, the dead assassin's eyes were clearly visible under the bright moonlight pouring into the hallway.

But what is this?

What came into view were not red eyes.

"...Blue eyes?”

“Yes. It’s clear that it’s a blue eye without looking any further.”

“That, that can’t be true?”

I quickly lowered my posture and checked the color of his eyes again.

I thought I must have seen something wrong, so I rubbed my eyes and checked again.

But nothing changed.

The assassin's eyes were completely stone-like.

“No, I definitely saw it...”

The Crown Prince let out a low sigh as I muttered in confusion.

“I guess you were seeing things as they were. Well, you've been thinking about the Red Eye the past few days.”

The Crown Prince nodded as if he understood. But I felt wronged.

“It’s not a mistake! I saw it with my own eyes! It was clearly a red eye...”

There was no way I could have mistaken those blood-curdling, blood-red eyes for those devil-like eyes.

“And besides, that...”

“What? What did the interest say to the Princess?”

I nodded and stared at the assassin, then quickly turned my head to meet the Crown Prince's gaze.

“He who follows in the footsteps of the goddess will pay the price with death.”

“What is that...”

“That’s what the assassin said. Do you know what those words mean?”

"No way..."

The Crown Prince's amethyst eyes sparkled with confusion.

I nodded.

“Yes, they must be annoyed that we are making a fuss about the death of Saintess Margaret.”

“So you’re saying this guy is the one who killed the Saintess?”

Delton, who had been listening to our conversation from the side, intervened.

I shook my head quietly.

“No, that can’t be right. It doesn’t make sense for someone with enough power to kill a Saintess to be defeated by a single dagger.”

Of course, he was a momentary lapse of attention, but given that he had the brute strength to blow away Delton in one blow, he was no ordinary person, but it was not enough to assume that he was the culprit who killed the Saintess.

“The real culprit is probably... the one behind this assassin.”

“Ha, how dare you threaten the Saintess’s life again.”

Suddenly, the Crown Prince gritted his teeth and turned his gaze towards the assassin again.

“Anyway, to find the mastermind behind this, we need to first take cover behind this assassin’s breath.”

“Yes, you absolutely must not let me die like this.”

He nodded to my words and immediately put the assassin on his shoulder.

Then, he woke up the temple servants who were still sleeping oblivious to the world, laid the assassin in an empty room, and had the doctor treat him.

Finally, we quickly woke up the Pope, leaving Delton to guard him tightly.

The Pope, who ran out in his pajamas in response to our urgent request for an interview, was taken aback by our report.

“Ha, the Saintess was attacked? What the...!”

The Pope, very angry, immediately summoned the captain of the guard.

“Why didn’t any reports come in that the Saintess was attacked by an assassin last night?”

“Huh? An assassin? What is that...”

The captain of the guard blinked in bewilderment, and a deep anger appeared on the Pope's face.

“Ha, they say that even His Highness came running when he heard the sound of the Saintess confronting the assassin, but the guards didn’t hear anything? What on earth do the guards do?”

“I’m sorry, Your Holiness. I’m sorry that I failed to discipline my subordinates well due to my shortcomings. I will tighten the discipline so that something like this never happens again...!”

“Never again?”

The Pope's voice asking the question was colder than ever.

“Do you really think we can continue to entrust the safety of the temple to a captain who hasn’t even figured out that there has been an assassin in the temple up until this point, let alone saving the Saintess?”

“Your Holiness! Could it be that you are saying...!”

The captain of the guard's face turned pale at the Pope's remark implying dismissal.

But the Pope's expression was cold.

“The captain of the guard will be replaced. Please leave the temple today.”

“But Your Holiness...!”

The captain of the guard called out urgently to the Pope. However, he just smiled as if he did not have the shame to ask for mercy.

That's understandable since it was only recently discovered that the previous Saintess may have been murdered.

However, there is no excuse for neglecting security and causing this danger.

'He looks to be at least forty years old, so he must have a family.'

It was certainly unfortunate that his livelihood was suddenly cut off, but I had no intention of sympathizing with him.

'I almost died because of your negligence!'

I just watched him being dragged out by the security guards who had been his subordinates until just a moment ago.
