INAS - Chapter 46

I glared at the Crown Prince with angry eyes.

I couldn't stand the thought of someone looking for information so hard that their eyes almost hurt, while I was leisurely doing something else.

“Why aren’t you answering? I’m asking since when have you been acting like that! Since before I opened this book? Or before I started pulling out my hair and looking through the previous book? Or before I threw away the previous book before that? Answer me now!”

As I growled fiercely, his eyes, which had been filled with confusion, slowly cooled.

He clicked his tongue as if he was annoyed and opened his mouth in annoyance.

“It hasn’t been that long.”

"Lie!"

I immediately denied what he said.

“You’re not even halfway through the book you’re holding! I’m sure I saw you pick up a new book around the same time I did!”

I pressed him even harder, thinking that the man who was supposed to be the Crown Prince was telling such dirty lies.

But he opened his mouth calmly without any change in expression.

“It’s just that I read books more slowly than the Princess. When I’m looking for original information, I tend to read each sentence carefully to make sure I don’t miss anything.”

So, I'm the type that just reads the lyrics roughly, you know?

I pouted my lips with a discontented expression and snapped again.

“Then you should be working harder to make up for your already slow pace. Why are you just leisurely looking at my face?”

“Well, the Princess is in front of me, and...”

"And?"

When I raised one eyebrow and asked curiously, the Crown Prince shook his head and looked at me.

“I just noticed that you seemed to be working hard. Don’t you usually just whine, say you don’t want to do it, say you’re tired, and ask to be left alone?”

He had an expression that seemed very new.

But I couldn't bring myself to refute that thought because it wasn't wrong.

“I told you. I have no intention of running away anymore. I will be free only if I resolve this disaster as soon as possible.”

So, this is all part of the effort to achieve the dream of having fun and eating well.

'I will definitely end this disaster within a year!'

He chuckled in response, perhaps finding it funny that I was clenching my fists and burning my resolve, but soon he put down his book and got up.

“It’s getting late. Let’s call it a day here and come back tomorrow.”

“Ah, it’s already time... Yes, that would be good.”

I nodded my head, looking out the window, which had suddenly become dark.

I would like to search a little more, but the investigation also requires physical strength.

I got up obediently, rubbed my sore neck, and left the library with the Crown Prince.

“Thank you for your hard work, Your Highness. I will see you again tomorrow.”

Having prepared a rough outline, I walked towards the bedroom.

But the sound of footsteps that should have naturally moved away in the opposite direction could still be heard nearby.

I turned my head in puzzlement and saw the Crown Prince following me as if guarding me.

“Why are you coming this way? The stairs leading down to the front door are on the other side.”

“It’s late at night, so I’ll take you to your room. Didn’t you send your maid first because you’re working late?”

“Hey, what’s going on inside the temple...”

Who wouldn't say he's the man with the best manners in the empire?

I stuck out my tongue and pointed to the window in the hallway.

“It’s okay. It’s just a short walk to the room. The moon is so bright.”

Today is the full moon, so the moon is unusually bright. To exaggerate a bit, the moonlight brightens the hallway so much that it's hard to tell if it's day or night.

“Still, it doesn’t seem right to send a woman out alone at this hour.”

“I’m telling you, it’s really okay. I just wanted to gather my thoughts on the way.”

When I said that, the Crown Prince nodded as if he couldn't push it any further.

“Yes. See you tomorrow then.”

“Yes, take care.”

I bowed my head slightly toward the Crown Prince and headed back to my room.

As I walked down the quiet hallway, I began to feel uneasy.

'Red eyes...'

When I first heard Martha's testimony, I thought I had found a clue, but now that I think about it, I feel like I'm stuck in a labyrinth.

Where on earth can I find someone like that?

It was at that moment that I let out a deep sigh.

Slap.

A small noise seeped into my ears.

I raised my head wondering what was going on, and a man was blocking my way with his head bowed.

A black hood, a black mask, black clothes, and even a sword on his waist.

“Eh, anyone can tell he’s an assassin... GASP!”

I was quietly looking over him and muttering my thoughts when I suddenly took a deep breath.

'What? Did an assassin come after me? Why?'

I can't say for sure that I've lived my whole life uprightly, but I've never done enough harm to make anyone resent me.

Really to no one...

'Wait a minute, those scumbags?'

I froze as I thought of the only people who could possibly hold a grudge against me.

'Yeah, I guess that's definitely the only people who hate me enough to want to kill me.'

But that didn't mean I could understand it.

Because the trash and its appendages fell for my scheme, lost everything, and became slaves of the temple.

There was no way he could afford to hire an assassin.

'Then who the hell sent an assassin to me!'

That was when I screamed silently.

Sling-

The assassin drew his sword from his waist.

I came to my senses when I saw the sharp blade shining brightly under the moonlight.

Realizing that this was not the time to be leisurely guessing about the plot, I quickly stopped the assassin.

“Hey, wait! Put that back. Don’t you know who I am? A Saintess, a Saintess! How dare you draw your sword on a Saintess in the temple? Are you delusional and wanting to die?”

I threatened him with a rather scary face, but the assassin didn't budge.

He just bowed his head and approached me step by step.

“Hey, wait a minute. Don’t come this way!”

It was the moment when I took a step back with a pale face.

An ominous voice flowed from the mouth of the assassin who had been silent the whole time.

“He who follows in the footsteps of the goddess will pay the price with death.”

...What?

I froze for a moment at the meaningful words, but then I noticed the assassin's pace getting faster and faster, so I hurriedly tried to escape in the opposite direction.

No, I tried.

If only the assassin, who had been keeping his head down, hadn't raised his head at that very moment.

“...I, Red Eye.”

They weren't pink eyes. They weren't purple eyes either.

It looks as if all the blood vessels in the eyes have burst and the blood that has flowed out has clotted.

His eyes were a truly perfect shade of red.

Even in mythology, a red eye that I have never seen before is shining before my eyes.

I stared into his eyes as if in a trance, not even thinking about evading the assassin who was rushing at me at a terrifying speed.

Even the moment the assassin, who had been right in front of my nose in just a few seconds, raised his sword.

Just before the sharp sword cut my neck.

“Ugh!”

Suddenly, a strong wind blew and the assassin's body flew into the air.

Only then did I come to my senses and look around. I saw Delton, who had come at some point, pressing down on the assassin's chest with his heavy forepaw.

“I came here because I felt a bad vibe, and you dared...”

As he muttered like that, Delton had the most terrifying expression on his face I had ever seen.

As if he were a real god who came to punish wrongdoers.

'It is definitely a spirit.'

It was at that time that I was once again reminded of that fact.

Krrrrrr...

Delton, who had been growling with his sharp teeth exposed, suddenly opened his mouth wide.

As if he was going to bite off the assassin's head in one bite.

I came to my senses only then, struck by the ominous atmosphere, and shouted in a hurry.

“Wait! Don’t kill me, Delton!”

"What?"

Delton stopped dead in his tracks at my shout and looked at me with a bewildered expression.

“What are you talking about? You want me to just let the guy who was trying to kill you go?”

“No, that’s not it. Don’t kill him. His eyes...!”

That was when I was trying to explain in a hurry.

Phew.

With a loud noise, Delton's heavy body was thrown to the end of the hallway.

And the assassin who had been lying underneath slowly got up.

'Did you push Delton?'

Pushing a lion weighing hundreds of kilograms away was an impossible feat for most humans.

And that too to a point that is over 30 meters away.

'What the heck is that?'

The moment I blankly stared at the assassin with a dumbfounded face.

“Hey, what are you doing? Get out of the way!”

Delton, who was groaning and groaning from the impact of hitting the floor, shouted urgently.

When I came to my senses, I saw the assassin who had finished regrouping.

Judging by the way he was leisurely clearing his throat, it seemed like he wasn't affected at all by Delton's attack.

“What the heck!”

I started running hurriedly.

I ran and ran so fast that I wondered if I had ever run this fast in my life.

But the opponent is an adult male trained in all kinds of martial arts.

There's no way I could deal with that with the body of a nineteen-year-old woman.

The assassin caught up with me in an instant and even blocked my path.

“Hey, Delton!”

Feeling a sense of crisis, I instinctively called out Delton's name.

At the same time, I thought I heard a loud noise from the end of the hallway, and then I heard heavy footsteps going “thump, thump, thump”.

It was the sound of Delton running to save me.

A glimmer of hope emerged at the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps.

'I might be able to survive.'

But no matter how fast the lion is, is it faster than the assassin right in front of him?

The assassin swung his sword at lightning speed as if he was not giving Delton any room to intervene, and at that moment, I was unable to do anything.

Except for just staring at the knife flying towards my neck with a pale face.

At that very moment, I was lost in thought, engulfed in such a deep sense of helplessness.

“Ugh!”

The assassin's movements suddenly stopped, then he tilted to one side. Then he fell down.

As if I had been hit with a single blow.

'What, what is it?'

I was just blankly blinking at the incomprehensible situation when a cold voice cut through the silence.

“That's why I offered to take you home.”

A familiar voice.

I quickly turned my head in the direction of the sound and soon found it.

Looking at the assassin with cold eyes, he climbed over the window...

“Master!”
