One in a Million Chance (2)
Rahon grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him.
Before I could do anything, my fingertips touched Ian's waist. I was so surprised that I clenched my hand.
"What, what are you doing?"
"You're anxious."
"..."
"So, go and check with your own hands. After you confirm that Ian is okay, go back to sleep. You look like a corpse right now."
I could feel Rahon's feelings in his annoyed and careless tone of voice. I could also sense how much he was worried about me.
I laughed weakly.
"Can we do this among ourselves without even asking permission from the person involved?"
"It's not my body anyway, so feel free to touch it."
Rahon moved my hand himself. The tips of my fingers swept over Ian's smooth skin.
"There used to be a tiny hole here. It wasn't hit by a sword, but rather by a poisoned needle."
"..."
"Can't you touch anything now?"
"That's right..."
"The wounds have disappeared and the skin color has returned. Are you relieved now?"
The skin that had been blackened and poisoned had returned to its original color.
Only then did I let out a long sigh of relief?
As I was leaning back in my chair, relaxing my body, Rahon's face suddenly caught my eye.
He was staring at my hand with an unreadable expression. It occurred to me later that he might have been offended.
"Ah! It was absolutely not because I did not trust Lord Rahon's power."
"I know."
"I'm sorry for making you feel bad. I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
Rahon answered casually and raised his head. His purple eyes seemed to have sunk particularly deep today.
"I have a question."
"Go ahead."
"Do you really want to regain your memories?"
"Of course I want to find it."
Why are you suddenly asking me this? I was curious, but I answered anyway.
"I've told you many times, there's a reason you lost your memories. It's not a good idea to try to find them again."
"Is it dangerous?"
"It may not be to that extent, but since it's my first time making medicine I don't know what side effects there might be."
"Ah...."
"You may have a severe headache, or lose consciousness for several days. There is no guarantee that you will regain the memories you seek."
Rahon averted his gaze from me. His side profile, facing the window, looked complicated.
"Is that okay?"
The number of benefactor candidates, which had been reduced to just one Kalit, has increased again to three.
All three were associated with flower-shaped scars, so now I couldn't be sure if they were benefactors just based on that.
So it became important to check the point of contact with me.
Of the three, who was so close to me that he came to the land of hell?
It was a problem that could only be solved by finding memories.
"I have to be prepared. It's that important to me."
"Why is it important?"
"...I'm sorry. I can't tell you that."
After a while of silence. Rahon opened his mouth.
"Okay, I'll make it."
"So you weren't making it after all?"
"Oh. I'm tired."
"What is that?"
Let's just laugh it off. Rahon just stared at me blankly. Feeling awkward for no reason, I changed the subject.
"Go quickly and make some medicine. I'll be here."
"Yes."
After Rahon left, I sat down next to Ian's bed.
"Nadia, you go and rest too."
"No, I'll stay here."
"You haven't been able to rest comfortably these past few days because of me. It's okay, so why don't you go for a walk?"
Nadia hesitated and then quietly left the bedroom.
Only Ian's breathing filled the quiet of the bedroom.
I stared at Ian's face. The image of him hanging his head in a faint in the carriage overlapped it.
Feeling uneasy for no reason, I put my hand on his cheek.
His smooth cheeks held just the right amount of warmth. It wasn't as scary as it was then.
At the moment when I let out a soft sigh, Ian's eyelids moved. I held my breath without realizing it.
The pupils of his eyes swung back and forth within his thin eyelids. His eyelashes, which had been calmly lowered, trembled for a moment, and finally, his golden pupils slowly revealed themselves.
His sleepy, blurry pupils turned to me. Ian looked at me and smiled softly.
"Millenia..."
"Yes."
"Should I carry you?"
"Yes?"
When I asked again, thinking I had misheard, his pupils quickly became more focused.
He opened his eyes wide and sat up. Then he felt dizzy and put his hand on his forehead.
"Your Highness?"
I cautiously reached out to him. Before my fingertips could touch his shoulder, Ian pushed my hand away.
"Why are you here?"
"Of course I was worried. As soon as you come to your senses, I distanced you again?"
His expression clouded with disappointment. He had promised to treat me as affectionately as before. Ian made an excuse with an embarrassed look on his face.
"No. That's not it... I'm not in a clean state right now. I'm afraid Young Lady might be offended."
"Not at all. It just smells good."
When I persisted, Ian sighed.
I quickly reached out my hand before he could push me away again. Ian stared at me for a moment, then took my hand as if he had given up.
"How are you feeling?"
"It's okay. I need to take a bath first."
"I'll call my employer."
"Go ahead. I'll do it."
Ian pulled the rope. The servant, who had just entered the bedroom, opened his eyes wide,
"Oh, my lord? You're awake!"
"Tell my father quietly and prepare the bath water."
"Yes, yes! I understand!"
The employee ran out with loud footsteps.
Ian had clearly told him to quietly inform only the Duke of Eldern, but it seems his servants did not hear.
A loud noise erupted before the door even closed.
"The little Duke has woken up!"
"Ha..."
Ian shook his head. Then he realized he was half naked and covered his upper body with the blanket.
"I'll call someone. Please go back to the bedroom."
"No. I want to stay here."
"My current outfit is... sloppy. Then I'll change my clothes, so just give me a moment."
"There's no need to be polite to someone that can't even see. Don't move around just to get dressed."
I know it's forced. I also know that Ian is in a difficult position.
I was equally embarrassed.
I couldn't raise my head, pretending not to look shameless. I felt like a thief.
Still, I did not give up.
The image of him lying unconscious in the carriage was still vivid in my memory.
On the one hand, I also have the anticipation of seeing his shoulder blades again.
'This is my only chance. I have to make sure I saw it right.'
I unconsciously focused my gaze down Ian's neck. My earlobes felt hot.
Ian broke the silence.
"Young- Lady. I am not a patient."
"You've been lying down for a few days and now you're awake. You need to rest for the time being."
There was a breathtaking look in his golden eyes.
Even an ordinary person can get back up from the brink of death if they are healed by Rahon's power. Moreover, he is the greatest knight in the empire. I think he must be embarrassed by my behavior of treating him like a child.
I slyly changed the subject.
"But what did you dream about?"
"Dream?"
"You asked me. 'Should I carry you?""
“Ah.”
Ian chuckled.
"I just had a dream, but when I opened my eyes, the Young Lady was there, so I guess I was confused."
"I guess you had a dream."
"... Yes?"
"Didn't I appear in your dream when I was young? That's why you were confused."
"..."
Ian closed his mouth. A faint blush spread across his cheeks. Just then, several servants came into the bedroom. Their faces were filled with joy as they announced that they were preparing to take a bath.
The bedroom was full of life as servants came and went busily. There were even employees who stopped by to see Ian even though they had no work to do.
Ian is loved by his people. It is not my job, but I feel strangely proud.
"Your Highness, the bath water is ready. Please take my hand and get up."
"It was done."
Ian stood up, politely pushing away the servant who extended his hand.
As the blanket fell, his bare upper body was completely exposed. I naturally turned my head.
"Did you tell my father?"
"Yes, he said he would come right away after finishing his conversation with His Highness the First Prinсе."
"Tell him there's no need for that. I'll come and see him myself after I take a bath."
"I will do so."
Ian's golden eyes, which had been giving instructions in a low voice, returned to me.
"Young Lady, please return to your bedroom now."
"I will do that."
"Bring Young Lady."
"Yes, Your Highness.'
Ian put on the robe the servant gave him and headed to the bathroom. The maid who had been waiting behind me approached me.
"Miss, I'll bring you there."
"..."
"Miss?"
"Oh, yes. Let's go."
I stood up, holding the maid's hand. I had no idea what was going on.
'Why... isn't it there?'
The flower-shaped mark I had seen on Ian's shoulder a few days ago had completely disappeared.
