TVDWL - Chapter 27 < Divorce Memorandum >

In front of Jeremiah was a document that Karina had written and left.

It was a divorce agreement that she had exchanged for a seal, promising to keep her word.

“Whew.”

A deep sigh escaped Jeremiah’s lips.

As the title of the divorce agreement above said, it contained the content that she would definitely get a divorce.

The situations that could occur after the divorce were written quite specifically, making it even more absurd.

The more he looked at the document, the more depressed he felt.

He had no idea what Karina was thinking.

‘Is she really serious?’

The more he looked at the document, the more she felt sincere about her claims that she had not just said anything.

However, Jeremiah could not believe Karina.

‘What were you looking for in the office when I was not there?’

Karina said she was looking for the family seal, but he did not believe her.

When he asked her what she was looking for, she kept her mouth shut as if she was hiding something.

Even the reason for looking for the family seal was to use the couple’s seal.

Jeremiah snorted.

‘You talk about divorce, but it’s funny to say it’s the couple’s seal.’

Jeremiah’s eyes sank deeply.

‘What on earth are you planning?’

Karina knew surprisingly well that divorce was not easy.

‘Maybe she’s talking about divorce more because she knows it’s impossible anyway.’

A cold sneer appeared on Jeremiah’s face.

‘What on earth are you planning that you’re trying so hard to divert my attention?’

His chest felt suffocated.

Jeremiah’s expression crumpled and he stared at the memorandum.

Knock knock.

“Your Highness, I’ll go in.”

Ron, the commander of the knights, entered the office.

“Your Highness, here’s the list of knights who will go out to subdue the monsters you asked me to bring. Please take a look.”

“...”

Jeremiah didn’t respond to his words at all as if he hadn’t heard them at all.

“Your Highness?”

Jeremiah’s cold voice reached Ron, who was bewildered.

“Ron.”

“Yes, go ahead.”

“Do you remember what you said last time?”

“Yes? Oh... yes.”

Ron felt the cold atmosphere and instinctively felt that Jeremiah’s question was related to the Grand Duchess.

“You clearly said that if I gave her a gift, I could distract her from doing something stupid.”

“...Yes?”

Ron looked bewildered and embarrassed after hearing Jeremiah’s words.

Ron urgently recalled what he had said last time.

‘Isn’t the Grand Duke worried?’

‘It would be reassuring to know where and what she is doing.’

‘Or it wouldn’t be bad to divert her attention by giving her a small gift. Something that the Grand Duchess usually likes or needs
.’

Where on earth was wrong with his words?

“No...?”

“Then you lied to me?”

Jeremiah’s eyes were sharp as he asked that.

“No... That’s not it...”

Ron couldn’t show it and swallowed a groan inside at Jeremiah’s serious expression.

“You clearly said that I could give her a jewel or some kind of trinket.”

“...”

Ron couldn’t correct himself and just moved his mouth, saying that wasn’t what he meant.

‘That’s why I shouldn’t have interfered!’

Ron sighed inside.

He wanted to take back everything he had said that day.

But now, it was all just meaningless regret.

“You said she was going to have a charity event soon, so that’s good timing. Is something like a necklace okay?”

Jeremiah asked in a low voice.

“...”

‘You misunderstood! That’s not what I meant!’

Ron swallowed what he really wanted to say and answered.

“Yes... That would be good.”

***

“I’m home.”

“Welcome. How did it go?”

Karina asked Mikhail when he returned.

“The letter was delivered safely to the ‘flower shop.’ I also visited the orphanage. I think things will proceed without any major problems.”

“Really?”

Karina let out a sigh of relief.

“What happened to the thing you were worried about earlier?”

“...”

Karina hesitated and glanced at the table.

On the table was the family seal she had received from Jeremiah.

“I’m fine. I took the easy way out, so everything is fine.”

The voice that spoke was somehow trembling.

“...What happened while I was gone?”

Mikhail, who noticed Karina’s distress, asked back.

“...”

Karina couldn’t find the right words to answer Mikhail’s question.

Karina thought back to what had happened in front of Jeremiah’s bedroom earlier.

‘It was just an accident. An unavoidable accident.’

Karina firmly dismissed the situation.

‘Did I know that Jeremiah would come out of the shower and take off his clothes at that moment?’

“Whew.”

Karina closed her eyes and exhaled slowly.

‘It’s okay. He didn’t see me panicking and acting like an idiot.’

Karina tried to erase the scene that had appeared before her eyes as she flinched.

“Your Highness?”

Karina calmly replied to Mikhail’s call.

“Not at all. Nothing happened. What could happen in the Grand Duke’s mansion?"

'Yes. I’ve already secured the necessary seals, and I’ve even written a divorce decree for Jeremiah and made sure it’s nailed down, so everything’s fine.'

Karina told herself as she picked up the seal.

“Now all I have to do is follow the plan.”

Karina, determined, unfolded the invitation and began stamping it.

“..."

Mikhail, who had been watching her from the side, said.

“Your Highness? I think you stamped the wrong seal.”

“Huh..?”

Karina, taken aback by those words, examined the invitation in front of her.

“Ah...”

The seal was stamped upside down on the bottom of the invitation.

Only then did Karina realize that she had stamped the seal the wrong way.

“Haa. I’ll have to make another invitation.”

Karina sighed and touched her forehead.

***

That afternoon.

Jeremiah quietly called Paulo Jeweler into the Grand Duke’s house.

“I’d like to order a necklace.”

“A necklace? Excuse me, but may I ask where you plan on wearing it?”

The jeweler asked cautiously.

“I need something that can be used for charity events.”

“Charity events? In that case, men usually wear ties or cravats rather than necklaces, so you’d be better off looking at a stick pin to hold it in place.”

Jeremiah’s brow furrowed slightly at those words.

“Not mine. I’m talking about necklaces that women wear.”

“Yes?”

The jeweler was surprised at those words.

Jeremiah had never ordered women’s jewelry before.

So he had assumed that he would naturally be looking for something for men this time.

“Oh, you’re looking for a women’s necklace! Wait a minute.”

The jeweler quickly wiped away his surprised expression as a quick-witted merchant, and his face filled with a businesslike smile.

“I have some pretty good necklaces for women. This is something I really wanted to show Your Highness the Grand Duke.”

The jeweler motioned for the employee to bring out ‘that.’

“Our jeweler’s craftsman made a set of women’s jewelry using emeralds mined in the Lufla region.”

Originally, he had brought it with the intention of showing it to Princess Caroline, the Grand Duke’s sister, while he was visiting the Grand Duke’s house.

However, if Jeremiah was looking for a woman’s necklace, it would have been much better to show it to the Grand Duke himself.

“The mined emerald itself had almost no inclusions or cracks, so it was a topic of conversation that it was of the highest quality ever seen.”

Before the jeweler could even take out the necklace, he had been praising it until his mouth was dry.

“He was praised for bringing out the emerald’s natural brilliance to the fullest with delicate craftsmanship.”

Meanwhile, the employee brought out a luxurious jewelry box made of a soft material.

“Of all the items, that necklace received a particularly high appraisal. They said it was the masterpiece of a lifetime. I think so too.”

The jeweler carefully opened the jewelry box with his gloved hands.

As the box opened and the necklace was revealed, Jeremiah could see why the jeweler had said that.

The necklace inside the jewelry box had a plain design, but it was elegant and graceful. The emerald in the center as the main stone reflected a captivating blue color, but it also gave off a clean feeling overall.

“How is it? This item has not yet been released to the market. The moment it is released, there will be many people rushing to get their hands on this necklace.”

“...”

“But the craftsman who made this necklace wanted to find someone who would appreciate its true value rather than just its monetary value. That is why we have specially chosen someone who would be suitable for this jewel before releasing it to the market...”

The jeweler began to brag about the necklace, making a fuss.

However, Jeremiah could not hear the merchant’s voice.

As soon as Jeremiah saw the green color, he was reminded of Karina’s eyes.

It was a beautiful green color with a clear and transparent luster as if it contained the fresh green leaves of a forest full of life.

“Let’s take this.”

“As expected! Your Highness the Grand Duke has a keen eye!”

The jeweler praised Jeremiah’s discernment and praised him.

The necklace reflected the sunlight coming in from outside the window and shone brightly.

Jeremiah couldn’t take his eyes off the necklace for a long time.

***

“Jeremiah called Paulo Jeweler?”

“Yes, Grand Duchess.”

“But why didn’t he tell me?”

“The Grand Duke called a few people quietly. He ordered them to finish their work and leave immediately without making a fuss.”

Caroline grumbled with a frown.

“Even so, if he came, he should have said hello to me. He just left?”

Caroline clicked her tongue. Paulo Jeweler was a place that was currently a hot topic with the phrase “the masterpiece of a master craftsman’s life.”

She had already planned to call Paulo Jeweler and have the jewelry and jewels she would wear for the charity event re-fitted.

It was a shame to miss the opportunity to see the masterpiece that had not yet been released to the public and was shrouded in mystery.

“I could have seen it. I would have had it!”

Caroline stamped her feet in regret.

'I heard that the emerald necklace is the most amazing.'

Caroline already knew about the masterpiece because she had pressured the appraisers who had appraised the gems.

'I'm glad I did since I'm tired of rubies.'

She planned to wear it at this charity event and receive the admiring gazes of the adoring and envious young ladies. She thought that she had to get the necklace before someone else snatched it away.

Unable to contain her impatience, Caroline got up from her seat and left the room.

'What should I say to Jeremiah so that I can have that necklace?'

Caroline pondered as she headed to his office.

The emerald necklace was considered a masterpiece, so it was very expensive.

Therefore, it was not something that could be easily purchased with just the dignity maintenance fee paid to Caroline.

'But it's different with the wealth of the Grand Duke's family.'

Caroline firmly believed that the Grand Duke's assets should be used for her own benefit.
