100CIM - Chapter 69

The dark interior of the orphanage was illuminated by candlelight.

Abel took a quick look around this shabby place.

“It’s bigger than I thought. I think it would be better to spread out and search around.”

“Okay, let’s do that. Wren, do you have a communications seat?”

"Uh."

They say that if you scatter at a time like this, you die.

Isn't that almost a horror movie cliché?

There is a scene where they disperse to investigate the building and then reunite to find that the other teams, excluding the main characters, have already been attacked by ghosts or possessed.

For a moment, Simone thought back to scenes from horror movies she had seen at school, but quickly dismissed the thought and followed Louis.

Of course, even if you look at it as a horror movie cliché or realistically, scattering from a building that is clearly haunted is a dangerous choice, but for this group, it's okay.

What could she be worried about when they are the main character and his party? Rather, she is more worried about herself.

“You guys look for the first floor. We’ll look for the second floor.”

“Okay. Be careful, Abel.”

“Oh. You too.”

Louis and Abel split up and went their separate ways to look at the candles Bianchi had given them.

Simone and Louis decided to tour the first floor, while Abel and his group decided to tour the second floor.

Simone followed Louis, who was holding the candle, a little deeper into the hallway.

The floor, the hallway, the ceiling. Everything was familiar to Simone.

She lived here every day, cleaning and taking care of the children.

If you walk a little further down this hallway, there is a room on the left.

Simone, recalling her memory, pointed to the left.

“There’s a room over there. It was used as a kitchen.”

“Then let’s go and see.”

Simone passed Louis, went into the kitchen, and started looking around.

This was the source of the foul odor that spread throughout the hallway.

Vegetables and meat were strewn about, rotten and twisted, pots held moldy, leftover porridge, and the water was full of dead insects.

Simone frowned but went inside, searching and opening the door without hesitation.

Louis watched the scene and then opened the cupboard on the other side and asked quietly.

“But, Simone, aren’t you afraid of places like this?”

Simone looked back at him, her eyes seemingly wondering why he was asking such a thing.

But Louis thought it would be better to ask the question once and move on.

Even though she was a necromancer, she felt pain and emotions just like any normal person and was easily surprised.

Isn't she scary?

It wasn't until he came here that he realized he really didn't know anything about her, so he wanted to ask.

Simone looked at Louis as if he was strange, then turned away, speaking in a blurry tone.

“What are I afraid of? I’m not really scared anymore.”

It was a little scary at first. Actually, the ghost itself wasn't that scary at first.

Because Simone's memories entered her head, she became accustomed to seeing things as hideous as her.

However, it was still a bit scary to come to this mansion and constantly be put in situations where one wrong move could lead to death.

Of course, now that she knows just how powerful Simone is, she realizes that it would be difficult to die without the power and schemes of the Demon King.

Besides, with Louis present, Simone's fear of death had lessened somewhat.

“...Is that so? Then that’s good. Since Simone is a necromancer, I thought you would endure it even if you were scared.”

“I would have run away to Illeston Manor just as I was scared. A necromancer born in the Empire has no choice.”

When she arrived at the Grand Duke's mansion, she felt fearful when she saw the large trees. Nevertheless, she boldly pushed forward, weaving her way through the trees.

To survive, even ordinary people who go to work normally have to become strong and fearless.

'Besides, the ghosts in this orphanage are probably...'

Ta-da-da-dak!

Both of their heads turned into the hallway.

“Did you just hear that sound?”

Simone nodded. There was the sound of someone running quickly with loud footsteps.

“Just go and see for yourself.”

Simone hurried out into the hallway and looked around.

But there was nothing to see.

“There’s no one here.”

“But I’m sure there’s something around here. Let’s look in the other rooms.”

The moment when the two people gave up on the kitchen, which they had found most suspicious, and started walking towards another room.

Ugh, ugh... kekeke!

At the sound of gasping for breath, the two turned their heads again and looked into the kitchen.

“...”

Simone took a surprised breath.

Whoop, ugh, squeak, woof...

A haggard woman was half-hidden by the table in front of the kitchen sink.

She scooped up the moldy porridge from the pot with her hands, then suddenly turned her head and looked at the two people with wide eyes.

Then she opened her mouth wide as if to tear open the uneaten flesh.

Gyaaaaaaahh...

By the time Simone unconsciously took a step back, halted by the eardrum-piercing sound, the emaciated woman, reduced to nothing but skin and bones, had already disappeared.

'What's this...'

Louis, who had been blankly staring at the sink where the woman was in the sudden situation, barely came to his senses and approached Simone.

“It’s gone. Should we go after it?”

But there was no answer from Simone.

Louis frowned and moved closer to Simone, shining the light on her.

“But is that a ghost? It’s quite thin, but it feels different from before, like a person-”

Louis closed his mouth. Simone's expression was strange.

Simone, like Louis who had been blankly staring at the place where the woman had disappeared, did not have a puzzled expression on her face, unlike Louis.

It was a face that seemed to be seriously contemplating something.

“Simone?”

"...Ah yes."

Only after Louis called Simone did she come to her senses and nod.

“Okay. Let’s go look for that woman from earlier.”

"Yes."

Louis followed Simone into another room, puzzled by her strange appearance.

Simone and Louis looked around all the rooms on the first floor.

However, the sound of someone running could be heard occasionally, and none of the various ghosts that many villagers had seen were visible.

Nothing was visible, as if everyone had intentionally hidden themselves to avoid Simone and her group.

In the end, Simone and Louis finish their investigation without finding anything other than the woman and join Abel's group.

“Did something happen?”

“I saw a haggard woman in the kitchen. I don’t know if she’s a ghost. What about you?”

Orkan shook his head.

“Nothing. But I kept hearing sounds. Running, laughing, something being knocked over.”

“Hmm...”

“Didn’t everyone run away because our cute little Miss Simone was scared?”

Bianchi smiled playfully and linked arms with Simone.

“Simone’s great power, all the souls know it? Maybe they're hiding because they're scared.”

“Bianchi, Simone is not your friend. Don’t fool around.”

“Wren, are you really going to be that stiff? We’re friends at this level. Aren’t we, Simone?"

Simone looked away with an ambiguous expression, neither smiling nor serious.

By the way, she was the type that couldn't spit in a smiling face.

Since Bianchi was clinging to her with a big smile on her face, she didn't want to just say, "We're not friends," and leave her hanging.

"I don't know."

Simone replied vaguely and took her arm away from Bianchi. Then she said.

“Then let’s all search again from the first floor.”

"Good."

“It’s like looking through a shovel to find a rat.”

Simone walked over and shook her shoulder. Then the nine-foot ghost that had been attached to her shoulder for a long time fell off slightly and came back again.

'Let's not do this and look for it together.'

This old ghost must have been here the whole time Simone was in the mansion, so she must know the whole story.

At that moment, the nine-foot ghost fell from her shoulder and disappeared.

“What if you don’t find anything on your field trip today? Will you accept the request?”

Louis asked as they searched the rooms on the first floor again.

“Hey! Don’t rush Simone already when the field trip isn’t even over yet!”

“They say Wren secretly has a short temper.”

“I’ll take the request. I just knew there was something there, and the woman I saw earlier didn’t seem to be a very strong spirit.”

It was a spirit that had no feeling at all, to the point where she wondered if it could be treated as a talisman.

'A ghost... is this it?'

Actually, she doesn't know.

If Simone is not mistaken, that woman-

Kkudangtang!

"It's a surprise!"

Bianchi jumped at the sound of a loud noise coming from somewhere and ran towards Simone.

The dull, loud sound did not stop at just one time, but continued steadily, thump, thump.

Simone and her group of five ran in the direction of the sound before anyone could give a signal.

A situation where all the strange phenomena that the townspeople saw were tightly hidden.

They had a strong feeling that if they missed this sound, they would return today with nothing to gain.

The sound was heard in the kitchen on the first floor where Simone and Louis first entered.

As they moved a little closer, they soon heard another sound in addition to the dull thud.

Ugh! Kek! Sa, save me... Kkeuk! Kek!”

The voice of a dying woman was groaning in agony, begging for someone to save her.

When the group reached the kitchen, they were met with a bizarre sight they had never seen before.

The emaciated woman that Simone and Louis had found in the kitchen was floating in the air as if her hair had been pulled, thumping and flying around, hitting the walls, ceiling, and floor.
