HFMD - Chapter 2 < Temperature Difference >

Number 99. It was the reincarnation of ‘Alyssa’.

Alyssa!

In her first life, Alyssa was an archmage who was like a beacon of hope in the war between demons and humans. Everyone praised Alyssa, and she was also willing to help people, she always stood at the forefront of the battlefield to block the demons.

Although it was something that did not fit the social situation where wars were constantly taking place, she was happy. She thought she could do anything to keep people happy. Yeah, anything.

In order to completely stop this wasteful war... We need to research the origins of demons.

Alyssa wanted to end the long war against the demons in her own way. Did she say that if she gets tired, she will win 100 battles?

After deciding to give people complete peace, she began to study the power of demons in earnest. The demons called the power they had ‘darkness’. The power to freely deal with all dark and unpleasant things, such as death and ghosts.

Alyssa slept, less ate less, and devoted herself to the study of darkness. If the darkness itself that demons deal with can be extinguished, there will be no reason for humans to fear them. However, people seemed to feel uneasy about Alyssa's actions.

Alyssa, a rare genius, an archmage strong enough to leave a mark in history. What if she studies thr dark powers and completely masters them? And, what if Alyssa changes her mind in a way that causes harm to humans? Is there really her presence on this earth that can stop her?

Her answer to that was ‘nothing’.

Sorry, Alyssa.

The day Alyssa finally finished her studies and learned the basics of how to control the power of darkness. She was pushed away by her comrades whom she trusted so much and fell to thr demonic land, 'Celvetia'.

- Why
?

Alyssa sat down on the all-black land of Celvetia under the bright red sky and muttered feverishly.

-Why, why...?

What did she do wrong? Running to her colleagues with joy that the foundation that would finally make the ‘darkness’ disappear was completed? Did she drink the alcohol her colleagues gave her as congratulations without hesitation? Or was it because even when she opened the magic circle connected to Celvetia and put herself inside it, she couldn't even lift a finger because of the poison in the drink, so she couldn't even resist?

I...

Did you do something wrong?

Her mind was dizzy with dark, thick emotions. Because of the extreme confusion, her mind felt as if it was empty.

While Alyssa was in a daze, the demons who caught her scent came running in surprise.

Human?

- How is she here?

- Let's kill her. Kill her.

- Revenge!

When the demons recognized Alyssa, who had been blocking them at the forefront of the human race, they became excited and rushed to kill her. It was a long fight after that. Alyssa overcame the hardships of dying hundreds of times while fighting the demons that attacked her. Funny enough, in the process, the darkness, which she had only mastered in her shape, became increasingly elaborate and massive.

While cutting off the heads of demons without a break for several years, Alyssa had only one thought.

I will take revenge.

Revenge on those who betrayed her and who wanted to sacrifice everything for human prosperity. Alyssa desperately survived that hell with the intention of taking revenge on those who dropped her into Celvetia. And finally, when she cut off the head of Demon King Basis and stood on top of the heads of the demons. Alyssa was no longer ‘Alyssa’.

Go, go, and don't leave a single life behind in the human world!

Alyssa gave a frantic command and jumped directly into the battlefield against humans. At that time, neither her thoughts nor her appearance could be considered human. She carried a wind of blood wherever she went and slaughtered a life, so her entire body was always covered in red blood. Therefore, her colleagues who betrayed Alyssa did not recognize her.

Wow!

- Run away... Argh!

As Alyssa had hoped, she took the lives of all her colleagues who had betrayed her. However, since she had already gone crazy, she was not impressed and immediately turned her body around to eliminate any other life she felt around her.

For the next few years, the world was filled with only the screams of humans and the laughter of demons. Black lightning struck from all directions, and monsters constantly crawled through the cracks in the ground. It was around this time that she began to wonder if humanity would truly become extinct if things continued like this.

A man appeared. He was the first to create something called 'Sword'. Unlike magic, which moves magic power through complex techniques and techniques, it has the ability to produce power comparable to magic by moving magic power with only a sword. As a former mercenary, he took the lead in killing demons, and humans called him ‘Cleon the Warrior.’

The humans, led by Cleon, regained hope and resisted the demons. Cleon, the strongest swordsman of all time, and Alyssa, the worst demon lord of all time. The long fight between the two ended with Cleon's sword cutting Alyssa's heart in half.

- Damn you, human bastards, they’re the same...

Alyssa's last breath was to scold Cleon, whose eyes widened at her words.

How long would it take for her vision and senses to be completely blacked out?

At one point she opened her eyes with a clear mind.

What is this?

She was embarrassed and looked around to see that it was a dazzlingly white snowy field. She tried to walk and look around, but her feet were frozen due to the bitter cold that penetrated her bones and she could not move.

Even though she was clearly dead, she thought, 'Isn't this how I'm going to die?'

The moment she thinks about it. Suddenly, a blindingly bright light filled her vision, and a thunderous roar rang in her ears.

You corrupted soul imbued with cursed power!

Feeling indescribable intimidation, Alyssa reflexively sat down on the floor. She couldn't breathe, as if someone had grabbed her by the back of her neck. A series of loud shouts fell on her head as she was panting as if she would lose her breath at any moment.

The sin of daring to go against my will and take countless lives with forbidden power!

Because of that sin, you will be trapped in the cycle of reincarnation from now on, unable to rest or die, and will have to fully feel the weight of the life you have taken away!

After saying those words, she once again lost her mind, and as 'God' said, she had to repeat as many as 99 lives with all her memories intact. In the early part of her unwanted life, she committed suicide several times, but could not die in any way she did 'on purpose'.

Why do I have to go through this? Who betrayed me in the first place?

Anger at first.

-Please, I was wrong. I will never do something like that again. So please, please kill me...

Then despair, fear, frustration. Over the course of her 99 lives, Alyssa gradually lost her sense of betrayal toward humans and her will to take revenge on God. So when her long punishment was finally over, she was given a new life.

After Alyssa was born, as soon as she became aware of her existence, she immediately tried to end her life with magic. But a voice that seemed to echo throughout her mind, like a distant past, stopped her.

If you try to kill yourself just because I let you go, you will repeat the same punishment again. Remember that I am always watching over you.

In the end, Alyssa could not die. She wanted to wander outside and look for a chance to die, but if God saw her actions like that, he might get angry and punish her again. So, God willing, she will not choose death of her own accord. But she won't do anything.

As soon as she realized that she could not die, the exhaustion of living her 99 lives overtook her. From her first days of life until now, Alyssa has never had a proper rest. Moreover, this was her first time in such an affluent and peaceful environment.

Alyssa is taking a break and she hasn't done anything for the past 22 years. Her first taste of languor was very sweet, but her desire to end her last life as quickly as possible was still there.

Get married.

Meanwhile, the marriage proposed by Count Florette and his wife was attractive. Even if she cannot die intentionally, even God can't help her if she lives in a place where the environment itself is dangerous and suffers an unexpected accident.

That was when Alyssa decided to become ‘Sylvia Florette Belfort’.

***

And so, the present. Randall Belfort, the soon-to-be husband of Alyssa, or rather Sylvia, was in confusion.

'What?'

Randall swore that this was his first time seeing Sylvia here. Lady Florette has never left the county since she was born. She was someone Randall, who had been traveling between the Duke of Belfort, the battlefield, and the royal castle, had never encountered.

'But why...'

The moment when the transparent gold eyes are so light that he can see right through to the floor, drawing a fine line. An unknown feeling fills a corner of his chest. It was a complex mixture of conflicting emotions that could be called longing or resentment.

“Shall we just go in?”

As Randall remained silent for a long time with a confused look on his face, Sylvia announced in a soft voice that the guests were waiting. Only then did Randall come to his senses. His vigilance, which had been pushed aside by his confusion, was restored.

'Was it a mistake?'

Randall, who deliberately made a hard expression to hide his agitation, reached out his right hand and cupped her hand. But he was a little surprised, despite his efforts to maintain his composure.

'It's too small.'

Sylvia's hands were really, really small. He didn't think even ladies of the same age in the North, where food was scarce, did this.

'... Come to think of it, did they say she wasn't naturally in good health?

Randall walked past the guests who were gasping for air at the sight of Sylvia, and examined her discreetly. Sylvia had a particularly slender physique, to the point where her high-heeled shoes seemed dangerous as she stepped onto the virgin road.

This was natural, as she had been consuming only the minimum amount of food necessary for her survival, and had been glued to the bed the entire time except for the light walks. However, Randall only knew that Sylvia had been living with the Count all her life, and he had not even dreamed of such details.

'I'll have to feed her well from now on.'

It wasn't enough to make him let his guard down, but he felt sorry for her. Randa looked at Sylvia with a slightly sad gaze. Sylvia felt those gazes and thought calmly.

'...You have good eyes. As long as you fulfill your marital duties, there won't be much of a hassle.'

With thoughts at quite different temperatures on the same road, the two eventually arrived in front of the podium. Since this marriage was recommended and arranged by the King himself, he prepared a wedding in the royal castle in return. As if to show that the King was directly involved, there was nothing in the wedding hall that was not beautiful, including the podium, candlesticks, tapestries, and statues. It looks like Belfort is quite satisfied with the way he came in.

Auston tidied up the hem of Randall's cloak, took a step back, and scoffed inwardly. Next, the royal maid tidied up the ends of Sylvia's veil and stepped away, and Randall and Sylvia raised their heads and looked ahead. The King, the person who created today's wedding, smiled as he brought his face close to the magic ball.

“I am truly happy that the Duke of Belfort, the shield of Elvares, and the daughter of the Florette family, loyal subjects of Elvares, have become engaged. I wish the Crown Prince could attend this auspicious occasion, but he is currently off to conquer the south, so please understand.”

The King continued to say nice things to hear, but the wedding guests were not interested. Sylvia had an indifferent expression on her face the whole time, and all she wanted to do was jump into bed right now, Randall only thought that when he returned to the North, he would first have to look into ingredients for healthy food.

Meanwhile, six days passed by in the blink of an eye. Since Randall's parents, the previous Duke and Duchess had been dead for a long time, the only people who received their greetings were Count Florette and his wife.

“Huh, huh..."

“Snap.”

“Sigh.”

The Count, who was cold enough to be called an 'expressionless lion' in the political world, was actually a fool who was scolded by his wife. Randall became a little more confused when he saw the Count's tearful face.

The king's concubine... Is it sleeping? I don’t think so?

“With this, we announce that the two of you have become married in the presence of God.”

It was when Randa was lost in thought about how long it would take to put a ring on Sylvia's hand and unconsciously pierce her finger.

“...Then the bride and groom kiss as an oath.”

'Ah.'

Only then did Randel return to reality. He stared again at Sylvia's face, who was a head lower than him.

'They said she was three years younger than me.'

Glancing back, he saw that each of the guests from the Duchy of Belfort had their mouths twitching. It was obvious that if they kissed openly here, he would become the subject of ridicule for a long time.

Randall said he was used to it, but he decided to just pretend for now to prevent his new bride from fainting from embarrassment, so he bowed down. The bouquet in her hands shielded their faces from the guest's faces as he held Silvia's wrists and wrapped her arms around his neck. Randall was considerate of Sylvia, who widened her eyes in surprise and slowly tilted her head.

Soon, their lips lightly touched each other. Randall tilted his head back as soon as he felt a soft touch. The moment a slight gap opened between the two lips.

“Please open your mouth.”

A whisper so small that only they could hear it rang in their ears.

"What...”

Randall inadvertently opened his lips to ask a question, and Sylvia leaned towards him ever so slightly. At that movement, the two people's lips met again.
