TCIWTFY - Chapter 8

Red threads fluttered down Marieu's shoulders.

"Neryl?"

No, what Marieu thought was a thread was her own cut hair.

The shiny red hair that Marieu had cared for and cherished like her life was scattered messily on the floor.

"Aaaah! What are you doing now?

"Next time it's your neck."

Neril, holding the sword, gave a low warning.

"Are you crazy? Are you crazy?"

The blade that had been laid down stood upright.

The coolness of metal against her neck. A tingling pain is felt as the flesh is sliced.

Neril lowered his head. She whispered into Marieu's ear so that only she could hear.

"If you dare touch Your Highness, I will break all your fingers."

"You, you."

Marieu bit her lip. She had no idea that Neril, who had always been as stupid as she was, would feel so threatening to her.

The inorganic eyes that had killed people before were creepy.

Marieu trembled and hesitantly took a step back.

***

"Neril, is your body okay?"

"This is okay."

Neril didn't feel awkward holding the sword with his left hand instead of his bandaged right hand.

Medea scanned Neril's whole body.

'Strong.'

Medea saw many strong men during her expedition. Neril couldn't become like them, but she at least grew stronger.

Neril was flawless. Even though she can't use one of her arms right now.

'If she's still like that now, what will she be like when the arm is still intact?'

It seemed like he could at least compete on equal footing with Kazen's 7-star knight.

'Peleus, that's why you sent me that child.'

She muttered something in Marieu's ear and returned with a smooth pace.

"What did you say to make Marieu's face turn white like that?"

"Try hard... I told her to do it."

"Yes?"

Whatever it was, Marieu was just a nuisance to Medea.

She had no intention of leaving the person who had put a knife in her back by her side.

"You all will take care of me from today onwards. There you are, taking care of my dress."

"Princess, are you sure?"

There was exclamation in the maids' voices.

Serving a Princess is a job that requires a lot of work.

'I don't know why, but Marieu was pushed out, so now we have a chance to grab a share!'

The maids could not hide their joy at the sudden change in the situation.

They were bowing until their waist was worn out, and they followed behind Medea.

They were so excited that they flattered Medea to the fullest, but they also scolded Marieu for being ungrateful.

"But, Your Highness. The palace felt a little strange today."

Then, a maid quietly spoke with a troubled look on her face.

"I went to get supplies, and there was a mountain of dry firewood lying around, but they gave me other firewood, right? They are all soggy and moldy!"

"That's right, Your Highness. They even told us to bring it ourselves."

"And even ordinary maids were told not to enter our palace."

If there are no maids in charge of basic management of the palace, all the chores fall to the maids.

"I was scolded by the head maid yesterday, and it looks like she wants to get revenge."

Medea nodded as if she understood.

"Oh my God, then... Is that really true? It is said that Your Highness whipped Madame Cuisine..."

Yesterday's incident was spread throughout the palace overnight, but only the maids in the Princess's palace could not believe it.

However, while they were at the Princess's palace, the Princess personally confirmed the answer.

They took turns looking at Neril, who was standing next to Medea. Yesterday, they remembered the Princess who came to support the injured Neril.

"Well, really, because of Neril..."

She lost the match with the headmaid!

The maids were surprised and thought the Princess was very foolish. Does the Princess know who she turned into an enemy just because of a maid?

Their thoughts were interrupted by the Princess's next words.

"It's my palace and my people. It would have been the same for any of you, not Neril. No one can touch my people without my permission."

The maids were taken aback by Medea's firm words.

"Perhaps Your Highness... What do you plan to do? We were curious...'

Medea thought softly as she looked at the maids who rolled their eyes and asked questions.

'I'm sure you're curious about your Master, not me.'

It seems like they were told to keep an eye on the situation. The eyes sparkled as they waited for an answer.

"I can't give in to the head maid now,"

Grumble.

Medea opened the drawer and took out a handful of items from inside.

"The head maid is so poisonous that you will have a hard time for a while. I'm sorry."

A pair of sparkling ruby earrings was given to the maid in charge, and a gold bracelet was given to the person in charge of taking care of the dress.

She also gave each of the large items in the drawer to the other maids.

The maids' eyes widened.

The Princess gave away all of her belongings to comfort them.

Even if you don't know anything about physics, you can't possibly know this.

Or do you care about us that much?

Heavy jewels and kind words swayed them.

"If we don't hold out now, the head maid will think she can save or kill you any time she wants."

Unaware of the Princess's eyes becoming colder than ever.

"Even though I am a powerless master, I don't want to see you all treated the same way."

White hands were placed on the hands of the maids, who were holding the jewelry tightly. It was a little cold, but it was small and soft.

"Looking at my time, I will ask my uncle to make arrangements. Please look at this ugly owner and hold out until then."

Her calm tone and lowered eyelashes revealed his devastation.

"No, Your Highness. I know that you want to protect us, so how can we blame you?"

"No matter how the head maid tries to harass us, I will endure with all my heart and serve Your Highness. Just trust us."

The maids all said in unison with tears in their eyes.

The feel of the thick item in their hands made them more loyal.

***

"They are all like bats. You gave them too much."

After the maids bowed much more politely and left, Neril complained dissatisfied.

This place was full of people trying to monitor the Princess's movements.

There was no one worthy of receiving the Princess's sincerity.

"Everyone is asking for news about Your Highness, but instead, you are giving them a reward."

"That's right. Of all my maids, you are the only one I can trust."

Even though the drawer containing the jewelry was empty, Medea was peaceful.

"So I have to clean it up."

"Yes?"

Medea only faintly raised an eyebrow at Neril's puzzled expression.

Most of the jewelry she gave to the maids were gifts from Duke and Duchess Claudio.

The jewelry that her uncle and his wife had gifted her was expensive, and the jewel was so large that Medea was impressed.

On the outside, the Duke and Duchess seemed to care very much for their niece.

However, upon closer inspection, the workmanship was sloppy, and too much emphasis was placed on the jewel, making it feel like a show-off.

Those who knew about jewelry felt that they were vulgar, and they were objects that gave the owner insight into the question.

'I went out to an official event wearing something like that proudly...'

There was a reason why nobles and diplomatic envoys ignored Medea.

"As soon as they leave the palace, they will try to sell what they received."

"Oh, that's what I want."

The jewels that Medea gave to the maids were like loudspeakers to the world.

Some people will remember the gifts that the regent couple made a fuss about and gave to Medea.

If that gem is released on the market, people will be curious.

Why did the Princess of a country have to console her maids by giving up her valuables?

How far can her uncle keep his mouth shut?

"This was a cheap way to lend a h land."

Medea patted Neril on the shoulder without expression.

***

"You will regret it."

The head maid did not say empty words.

Sand powder was sprinkled on food, and bedding was smeared with a scent that would attract various pests before being brought in.

Besides that, she tried everything that could make the young and precious Princess's day difficult.

All visits to the Princess's palace were also rejected by the maid.

Originally, there were few guests, but with all the people coming and going for work blocked, the Princess's palace quickly became as deserted as an abandoned house.

The head maid planned to completely isolate Medea in this vast palace.

'I also told Catherine not to look for the Princess for the time being.'

Think carefully about the price you pay for recklessly going wild.

'Medea, you touched the nose hair of a sleeping lion.'

The head maid was thrilled and satisfied that her revenge was successful.

But if there's something she never dreamed of,

"Ugh, how long is this going to be like this? Hey, throw this away. It came from outside."

"Isn't it too old-fashioned? The hour pin is the enemy."

Most of her evil gifts never even reached Medea.
