THYU - Chapter 8

THYU - Chapter 8

To Help You Understand

Winter had no answer. All he could do was keep his mouth shut and keep an eye on her.

Winter, who had been thinking about what to say for a while, opened his mouth.

"If you want a divorce, I'll give it to you anytime.

"Really?"

"But of course, you have to return the money I paid for the wedding."

Violet paused at his words. Winter continued speaking with a calm expression on his face.

"Of course, interest accrues in three years. I guess I can take less and return about 27 million lacs."

"..."

"Oh, I have to pay you for the three years you worked as my wife, so I'll have to deduct the interest. And what more should I do... Should I pay for rolling around on the bed?"

As Winter approached, Violet gradually retreated. Just before her body hit the wall. Winter, feeling the need to protect the Princess, inadvertently put his hand between Violet's head and the wall and wrapped his hand around the back of her head.

Thanks to that, the two people became close enough to touch. Winter leaned forward and asked with a mixture of anger and resentment in his voice.

"Let's get divorced? How can you say that to me?"

He spewed out abusive language in an attempt to somehow twist her mind. Violet also expected that if the topic of divorce was brought up, money would be brought up. She had endured these three years for that very reason. However, she did not expect that such a strange level of anger would pour out.

Violet barely took a long breath, lowered her eyes, and spoke calmly.

"I know you lost a lot by marrying me. But doesn't continue a marriage you don't want only lead to greater losses?"

"Anyone wants..."

"I'd rather get divorced and put myself in debt. I know I can't repay you on my own. I don't mind dying while working, still...It's to your advantage."

"You're going to go that far and get a divorce? Why? What on earth is the reason?

Violet smiled vaguely without realizing it.

"I told you so. I still don't know why. What the hell are you... Why do you hate me so much?"

"......What?"

Winter couldn't understand why he was saying this.

His wife is asking him why he hates her so much.

Winter's hands were shaking. It felt like a typhoon was raging inside his body. His whole body was consumed with anger and frustration as his blood rushed through his body. She was out of her mind, and so was him.

Je wanted to hold her. It seemed like she would just disappear like this if she wasn't dragged in and locked away tightly.

But the only thing he could do was to struggle to come up with an answer.

"I don't hate you. I have no intention of getting divorced. No one will help you if you don't want a divorce anyway. You probably know that much."

"I know."

"Then don't ever say something like that again."

Winter stepped away from her. He looked into space for a moment and caught his breath before he turned and went into his bedroom. Violet flinched at the sound of the door slamming, closed her eyes tightly, and then opened them again.

"I don't hate you."

"Liar."

Violet muttered sadly to herself and walked to her room.

***

From her conversation with Winter, she learned something for sure.

Since money was involved, divorce was absolutely Impossible on her own. She hated Ash in her heart, but she needed his help. It was Ash who took her husband's money and did not keep his promise. Now that he had fully paid off his debts and had begun to gain the support of the people, he was almost the only person with the power to help her at the moment.

Since Violet wanted a divorce, she sent a letter to find a way to give her some sort of title. Violet thought that since he had followers, it wouldn't be completely impossible if he looked into the law carefully. She thought that if there was no money at stake, there would be no reason for their divorce to harm Ash.

A few days later, Violet boarded a train leaving the capital. Winter sat across from her. He seemed to have decided to act as if he hadn't heard anything about the divorce.

He finished his glass of beer before the train even left. During the seven hours, he continued to drink.

Violet, who was worse off, opened her mouth.

"Aren't you drinking too much?"

"Not at all."

Winter sarcastically said.

"Why? In the Princess's eyes, drinking Iike this is so vulgar that you can't stand It, right?"

"My father also drank a lot. It's because I'm worried. I'm afraid you won't live Iong. and..."

"And what?"

"I'm not saying that people are shallow."

Violet said something as if scolding him and then closed her mouth. She thought Winter would be annoyed, but he looked at Violet with a slightly dazed look on his face, then quickly turned his head away from the window and rested his chin on his hand.

"....You did well, yes."

Violet tilted her head slightly and looked at Winter sitting backward. The strong wind blowing in through the open window tangled his jet-black hair, causing it to stick to his shiny bronze skin and then fall off again and again. She had put her mind in order, but when she looked at him quietly like this, she kept feeling a strange longing.

As she got closer to home, Violet felt as if her windpipe was being twisted by someone's hand.

Still, Violet definitely perked up after a short vacation and the medication the doctor prescribed. In particular, after changing the medication, the headaches were reduced by less than half, and Violet felt as if they were going to fly away.

Seven hours later, when they arrived at the station, Winter got off first and asked Violet who followed behind.

"This is really amazing. How can you come all the way here with the same attitude the whole time?"

When he became sarcastic, Violet also chided him for the first time in a while.

"How come you change your posture so many times? I thought you were coming with a child."

"What should I do if the chair is uncomfortable?"

Winter grumbled and became sarcastic as if nothing had really happened.

With those words, Winter stuffed his hands in his pockets and headed towards where the carriage was waiting, but looked back when there was no sign of her following him.

Violet was looking at the boy holding the flower basket. Violet slowly turned her head towards Winter and opened her mouth.

"Would you like to buy me flowers? In return for the contract."

Then Winter frowned and responded.

"Don't say anything else later and ask for the right thing."

"I like those flowers."

"Then later. The flowers at home are better than those."

"Now that we're talking about it, it'll be easier for both of us if we buy it for you. Because the flowers at home are not a gift. I want to receive flowers as a gift. Buy me flowers."

Winter didn't understand what the difference was between the two flowers, but he didn't bother to refuse any further and walked towards the boy. He looked into the boy's basket, bought one that had not yet bloomed, and returned it to Violet.

"Here."

"Thank you."

Violet accepted the rose he gave her so bluntly with both hands. Violet, who seemed bitter for a while as if she had received a gift, looked at Winter and smiled.

"It's pretty."

"I see you're laughing when you say you're getting divorced."

"I know, right."

Violet walked home, protecting the flowers with her hands.

After returning to her bedroom, Violet took a vase that had been left in the storage room and placed the flowers that Winter had given her.

***

For some reason, Winter stayed for a week and returned to the capital. He was still busy with work and didn't talk to Violet, but it was the first time he had been in the mansion for this long.

Violet couldn't figure out why Winter hated divorce so much. She thought about whether this marriage would benefit him financially without her knowledge, but there was no way to check right now.

Today, fifteen days after he left the mansion, there was a birthday party for Duke James Blooming.

Winter will return this evening for his father's birthday party. Violet planned to talk more when he returned.

As usual, Violet wore a purple, almost black dress to go to tea time, which continued from lunch. After getting ready, she was about to leave her room when the door burst open and Ash Lawrence walked in without permission. Behind him stood Catherine Blooming.

Violet stood up. She felt uneasy at the stiff expressions on the two people's faces. Ash said as if it was ridiculous.

"Divorce? How can a sound like that come out? Why? What is the reason?"

Violet paused at the sound of his angry voice. Then, Catherine, who had come with him, probably because Ash had called her, said with a sad expression.

"Violet. I really..... did my best. I overlooked the time when you lied about being sick without even changing your expression."

Catherine continued speaking in a trembling voice as if she really couldn't bear it anymore.

"I know that Winter's status felt inadequate. But didn't you know that too and agreed to the marriage? Violet, you are part of our family now. No matter how much you are a Princess, you cannot behave as you please like this. I know It's because I didn't teach you properly, but... Still, I'm really upset."

Violet thought that there was a rattling sound inside her heart. For hours she thought of Catherine and her friends who had insulted her.

Thinking about the days when she listened to it without being able to say a word. She felt like something in her mind had been cut off. She couldn't live like this anymore.

She said it out loud.

"It doesn't matter what my husband's status is. So he doesn't want to get divorced. I don't want to stand around listening to insults at tea time anymore. "

"Bah, Violet...."

Tears fell from Catherine's eyes. Violet looked at Ash and continued her words.

"And I don't know why I have to listen to people calling me a fraud. It was you who really lied. But why am I..... "

Ash cut her off as if he were shocked.

"You know that dissolving the royal family was what the people wanted. You heard the protests in front of the royal castle every day, right? But how can you be so selfish?"

In fact. Ash had a reason why this divorce had to be prevented at all costs. The Bloomings and Ash Lawrence were conspiring to embezzle the money that Winter had shared as Violet's property. Fortunately, Winter did not meddle with Violet's fortune in the slightest, and more importantly, since Ash was a royal, he did not know that he was helping the bank take Violet's fortune without leaving any trace.

Violet's divorce meant that all of their money would be cut off. Therefore, they had to break Violet's self-esteem and make the marriage last like this. Both Catherine and Ash thought hitting someone with their own hands was very vulgar. Nobles never hit their children even If they did something wrong. Instead, they chose to lock them in the closet.

Ash asked Catherine politely.

"Lady Catherine. I will allow you to correct that child in some way, please."

Then Catherine nodded and said.

"Violet. This is a punishment for thinking of you. You understand, right?"

"What is that......"

As Violet was trying to come to terms with the situation, two maids brought by Catherine grabbed her and pushed her into a closet. A chain was wrapped around the doorknob and the lock was fastened. Catherine said in a trembling voice.

"Do you know how much my heart hurts every time you, who are no different from my daughter, do things like this? Reflect here until dinner."

After a while, the sound of two people's footsteps moving away and the door closing was heard.

There was silence everywhere.

Violet sat down in her seat blankly.

As she leaned her forehead against the wall and did not move for a while, the thought of death came to her mind.

Then she remembered the day she wanted to die.

Obviously, her body changed after taking all the sleeping pills that day.
