THYU - Chapter 7

THYU - Chapter 7

To Help You Understand

The two entered the restaurant right in front of the meeting place. As Violet headed towards the stairs, Winter grabbed her wrist.

"It's the 5th floor. I can't walk."

"My bedroom is also on the 5th floor."

With those words, Winter immediately spoke to Hayel, who was standing about five steps behind her.

"Tell them to install an elevator in the house."

"Yes, CEO."

Hayel ran straight away. Violet sighed softly. She wondered how hard it must have been to drag her body around like that. Finally, the moment she took the elevator and entered the 5th floor, Violet stopped. The wall on the beach side was made entirely of glass, so she could see the sea, white sandy beach, blue sky, and Iake Round geese with orange lines on their heads.

Even though Violet sat by the window, she couldn't take her eyes off the scenery. It was her first time seeing such a wonderful scene.

The restaurant's food consisted of southeastern seafood dishes. Violet's mood also felt a little refreshed as the dishes, used less cream and butter.

While eating, Winter spoke with a somewhat embarrassed expression.

"You were right."

"Yes?"

"My bloodline. I'm not a shaman, but when I researched about the Kanik clan, I heard that there were records of people switching bodies with others several times in history. I couldn't find any records as to why or how."

"I see."

"And the contract you handled was great too."

"No, it's not that great."

What a compliment to his wife. She and him have been together for 3 years, but they are so different from each other.

Still, Violet was happy to hear that it was great and thought about the case for a while before asking.

"Would you like to be with me for your father's birthday next month?"

"My time is more expensive than that. Speak with objects."

"Yes."

When she answered and closed her mouth, Winter said angrily.

"I hate that attitude of yours. If you have more to say, say more. Don't be frustrated."

"If I want to say something..."

Violet thought for a moment and then opened her mouth.

"I have one. I'm curious."

"Say it "

"If I had died, would you have come to my funeral?"

When Violet asked about something that no similar guess could be made, Winter raised his head and looked at Violet.

His eyebrows slowly narrowed.

"What does it mean?"

"It's exactly what I say."

"You said, 'If I died."

Violet nodded slightly in response to his question.

"I thought about whether I would rather die than live like this."

Winter sneered as if it were ridiculous.

"Don't be harsh."

"Why do you think it's a big deal?"

"You mean. How many times have you been hit in your life? Have you ever worked for someone else? Have you ever been trapped or tied up and dragged around? No. Have you ever starved because you didn't have money?"

Violet closed her mouth at his words. Winter asked sarcastically.

"Or are you just threatening me with death?"

"..."

She thought he had a lot to say, but when she started talking to him. I had nothing to say.

The conversation ended there, and when the meal was over, Violet asked again.

"Still. What if I died?"

"..."

"Then would you have given me a day back then?"

It's his wife's funeral. Even as she told him not to laugh, Winter, who had imagined Violet's funeral without realizing it, tried to answer but was speechless and shut him up again.

What is he making money for?

To flatten their nose. That's what he's making money for, but what happens to his life when she dies?

Even though his wife was always polite and he was always rude, Winter always felt like a precious Princess was looking down on a lowly stranger. He did the same at her wedding.

Their first meeting was on the first day of marriage. Winter got out of the carriage and was completely overwhelmed by Violet Lawrence.

When he came face to face with her walking towards him and held out the back of her hand as if to kiss it. Winter's mind was filled with thoughts of wanting to run away from that place. Even as they kissed, the thought that he would find his behavior pitiful could not leave his mind.

The aristocratic gait she had achieved after working hard for several days, and the stuffy clothes she had endured patiently for some reason, were part of Violet's daily life, as natural as breathing, and she could not imagine that there existed a world where people could not do those things, or where they could not learn such etiquette.

There was nothing he could do to satisfy that noble woman, not even money left on hand.

So first of all, money. That was the only thing he could get.

When Winter didn't answer anymore, their conversation ended there.

***

Even after Winter left after the meal, Violet stood in the restaurant lobby for a while.

At that time, a woman wearing a nice light blue hat with a wide brim called out to her.

"Violet!"

Violet turned her head and saw her cousin, Ariella Lawrence, the most famous actress in Rockround. She smiled as Violet was happy to meet her after such a long time.

"It's been a while, Ariella. Are you busy these days?"

"I'm busy. Aren't you free? Please come visit us often."

"I'm afraid it will be like that in the future."

Violet answered. Ariella let out a sigh.

"I envy you. Like you, I want to get married early and spend my days arranging flowers. Elegantly."

"I see."

"Right. I often meet Lord Winter at Kaisle Stadium. I guess it made sense to me because he also had to earn money from a young age. You don't like such barbaric sports, do you?"

"I don't hate it because it's barbaric. I don't enjoy it because it's unfamiliar."

And he didn't have to make money, he just ran out on all fours because he liked being free...

Violet suppressed what she wanted to add. Then Ariella narrowed her eyes and she said.

"You always try to talk like that to make it seem like you're a good person. Lord Winter must be frustrated."

"Are you saying he's frustrated?"

"Huh."

Violet smiled lonely at Ariella's reply.

Her husband seemed really frustrated with her.

Three years ago, it wasn't like she could swallow everything she wanted to say. At least she was able to ask Ariella why she should listen to her say that she and her husband communicate well.

Just to avoid the loneliness of having no one to rely on and the criticism of endless people. So Violet just kept swallowing what she wanted to say. Ariella looked at the clock tower in the middle of the island and said in surprise.

"Oh my. I'm going to be late for the scheduled time. I'm going."

"Huh, bye."

Violet said goodbye and walked toward the carriage as if running away. Violet arrived in front of the carriage and asked Lulu.

"Lulu, does Ariella often stay at the Kanik Hotel?"

"Yes?"

Lulu realized something late and crushed her face as hard as she could. It was just as Violet said. Ariella Lawrence loved Winter's Kanik Hotel. No matter where she performed, she stayed at the Kanik Hotel, and it was the same when she came to the capital.

This morning, when Violet saw the dress Lulu dragged In, she was surprised as if it was her first time seeing so many clothes. So who did all the dresses Hayel bought to go to?

"She stays here often...."

Violet quietly nodded at Lulu's sullen answer. For the past three years, Winter has always been out, but Violet thought it was only to repay the 24 million lacres he had lost. She vaguely thought he wouldn't cheat on her. Violet felt guilty about Winter going bankrupt because of her, so she secretly took her husband's side even when he caused her pain.

But when she thought about it, it was strange that she expected her husband, who hated her so much, to have no other women.

Well, Violet no longer cared who her husband dated. She was just sick of this loneliness.

***

Violet didn't have the energy to explore the capital anymore, so she returned straight to her lodgings.

Violet sat on the chair by the window of the room and looked outside.

She managed to hold on for three years, but there was no reason to hold on if the same life was going to continue in the future.

Violet, who had been dazed for a long time until the sunset, raised her head slightly at the smell of warm coffee. Lulu was coming in holding an ecstatically decorated cup of coffee.

"If you don't have an appetite, can I bring you some dessert?"

"..."

"What's the big deal about living? Even if I'm full, I can live quite well."

Violet nodded at her words. Lulu placed a cup filled with warm coffee Into VIolet's hand.

"Hold on even if you don't feel like it. It's chilly now that the sun is setting."

"It's warm."

Violet smiled with wet eyes and brought the cup closer to her face.

"Wow, the smell of coffee really makes me feel good."

"Yes?"

"Huh."

For now, she thought it would be better to just enjoy it. Violet took a sip of coffee and spoke in a cheerful voice.

"I need to eat a big dinner. Lunch was a southeastern-style dish, so it was too light for me."

"Good idea! The stubborn chef has already sent a fisherman to catch the lobster, so the main dish has been decided. Then take a rest, and I'll come pick you up later in the evening."

"Thank you."

Violet greeted warmly.

She had no appetite at all, but she couldn't skip dinner when the chef was so excited.

Fortunately, the dinner was so good that it would have been unfair to skip it. The meatloaf that Lulu put on the table to cheer her up was a taste that made her want to stay at this hotel even more.

She enjoyed the meal so much that Turin and Lulu kept hovering around Violet, wanting to hear more compliments on the dish they made.

It was just as Lulu said.

Even if she was full, she could live just fine. And she gained enough strength to say what she wanted to say.

Violet didn't want to be a frustrating person anymore.

***

Winter had planned to stay the night at the Kanik Hotel headquarters building on the island, but he couldn't stay long because he was worried about Violet talking about her funeral. He eventually returned to the hotel where his bedroom was with his work.

"I thought about whether I would rather die than live like this."

His wife's calm voice lingered in his head.

It would be a terrible death. He thought it had to be a cruel death.

Winter doesn't like it. He thinks it started when they got married as if she was sold out of a noble sense of duty to repay the country's debt. What reason would a wife have for thinking like that?

It was pathetic that he was the only one suffering like this over words that Violet would have just thrown out. At that time, a knock was heard.

"Winter."

It was Violet's voice. Winter put down the unread document and quickly walked to the door. When he opened the door and stood too close, Violet looked up. Because the height difference was so great, she couldn't see Winter's face if she didn't do that.

Violet looked at Winter like that for a while.

Violet, who was quietly looking at him as if she had not seen him in a long time,  opened her mouth after a while.

"I want a divorce with you."
