IDMH - Chapter 46

I Decided My Husband

The spring rain that fell all night moistened the ground.

The water droplets on the green leaves fell with a clear sound, like rolling beads.

After the heavy rain, the clear sky, and the cool breeze, people came out regardless of age and gender.

The women gathered in the laundry area, where clean water was running, pounded the laundry, and talked non-stop.

"When I first heard the news that my lord had passed away, I thought something big had happened."

"That's right. Because a territory without a lord will eventually be eliminated."

Other people greatly sympathized with the topic someone raised and offered their own opinions.

"There is a Lady, but she has not received any training for a successor and she does not have a fiancé...."

"What? Really? I thought she got it because she was so good at her job."

"But how do you know that she has not received any successor training?"

"That's because she didn't go to the Knight Academy."

In response to the question that came back, the woman answered as if she was asking something so obvious.

"If the Lord had intended to appoint the Young Lady as his successors or, he would have sent her to  the knight academy."

"Oh, that's right. Even though times have changed a lot, female knights are still not recognized."

"Yes. Even if the Lord wanted to make the Young Lady his successor, his vassals would have opposed it."

"Poor girl..."

Most of the people here had lived in Leopold's estate since before Adele was born.

Their affection for Adele was special as they shared glorious moments with her, such as when Adele was born and when she celebrated her first birthday.

However, everyone was truly saddened by the fact that Adele was not recognized as the successor.

"Still, I want her to become our Lord."

A woman was patting the wet, limp fabric and muttering as if she were complaining.

"It's ten times, no, a hundred times better for a Young Lady to become a Lord than for a strange guy to suddenly show up and say, 'From now on, I'm the Lord!"

Another woman next to her nodded in agreement.

"That's right. I wouldn't know if the Young Lady was indifferent to the affairs of the estate and didn't know how to do anything, but that's not true either. I heard she is doing well now."

Yes, yes. The women agreed, nodding their heads so loudly that they thought it was excessive.

"Why isn't it a knight? What we need is not a Lord who is good at swordsmanship, but a Lord who knows our situation well and takes care of us."

"That's right. So, I hope you become a Lord."

They don't need anyone else.

The desire for Adele to become the Lord spread widely among the residents of the territory.

***

When Sir Aldor finished reorganizing the knights, he planned to give them a vacation of at least two to four days as a sign of their hard work.

However, the maintenance of the knights ended much later than expected, so that was not possible.

Because it was already the end of April.

He had to finish Perdes' education before the summer was over.

Because of that, I had no choice but to ask Sir Aldor to educate Perdes starting tomorrow.

Although he would have complained about this, Sir Aldor thankfully followed my decision.

I'll have to give him a gift later as a token of my gratitude.

"What should I do for you?"

Although I was married to Sir Aldor, I knew very little about him.

I didn't know anything about what he liked or didn't like.

Even though I was only his wife in name, I was so indifferent to someone who sacrificed his life for me and my family.

I wanted to treat him well right now, so I was thinking about what to give him as a gift and a Hanness came to me.

"I brought you a letter, Miss."

"Give it to me."

Hannes put down the letters he brought on the desk.

Why are there so many?

I skimmed through the letters. Most of them were invitations to social gatherings such as tea parties.

I didn't like participating in social gatherings, but I had no choice but to live in an aristocratic society.

However, there was no need for everyone to participate.

All I had to do was select a family that would be helpful to me and participates.

Families belonging to the noble association should participate if possible.

I need to build a proper relationship with you from now on, so when I try to do something big later, at least it won't be an obstacle.

Still, it's hard to go to places that are far away, so while I was trying to pick out some good places, there was a letter that caught my eye.

Two swords pierced the Crown. It was a symbol of the Allied Powers.

In other words, this is the reply I have been anxiously waiting for.

I put down the other letters and checked them first.

Inside the envelope were two sheets of paper. One was a reply to the letter I sent.

The other one is.

[Application for admission.]

It was an application for admission to the United Knights Academy.

"Miss... ?"

Hannes, who was standing next to the desk and inadvertently saw the application form, was surprised and called me.

Instead of explaining anything, I smiled and placed my Index finger on my lips.

Hannes, who immediately understood what this meant, nodded and lowered his head.

Since I had to know Perdes' level to decide how to teach him in the future, I took a simple test on the first day.

Perdes had no idea about the basic qualifications that nobles must have.

Since he was a Prince in name only, he had not received a proper education until now, so it was a natural result.

'Is the basic subject level average?'

For the same reason, I thought basic subjects would be lacking, but an unexpected evaluation came out.

"Perdes, is his basic subject level really average?"

When I asked in disbelief, Sir Aldor nodded.

"Yes. He's lacking in literature, but other than that it's average. Mathematics in particular is above average."

He has an above-average level in math, which people usually find difficult. It was amazing.

There is no way he had a teacher who taught him basic subjects.

Did he teach you?

Come to think of it, Perdes once said that his dream was to become a wizard.

It looks like he studied the basics on his own in order to become a wizard.

It was quite surprising and great to be able to achieve an above-average level through self-study.

This meant that Perdes was smart, so I had less to worry about.

"You can skip the basic subjects."

"Do you mind if I don't teach the advanced course?"

"I don't want to make him a scholar or official, this is enough."

I especially liked that math was above average.

There was no way Perdes knew anything about things like administration or legal affairs, so there was nothing to report on those areas since he didn't take the exam.

"Then, I will ask you to teach him other areas except the basic subjects, Sir Aldor."

Sir Aldor placed his hand on his chest and bowed his head slightly.

"Please leave it to me, Lady."

***

Since Garret, the official guard, was sent away. I thought the Emperor would send a new guard, but that was not the case.

Apology saying he was sorry, but did not send a new guard.

There is no way the Emperor would have given up watching Perdes. As expected, it was clear that there was another surveillance station at the Duke's residence.

Since no new employees have recently entered the Duke's residence, this means that one of the existing employees has betrayed me and my family.

"..."

Suddenly, I remembered how the maid I trusted in my third life betrayed me, and my mouth became bitter.

I sincerely hoped that something like that would never happen again, but things didn't work out the way I hoped.

There were so many employees working at the Duke's residence that it was not easy to find out who among them was the traitor. There was a way to set a trap and force them that way, but then the Emperor would be suspicious, so that wasn't possible.

I have no choice but to be as careful as possible so that my plans are not discovered. While I was thinking about this and that, I arrived at the library.

The library was available to anyone staying at the Duke's residence but very few people actually used it.

When I go to the library, I've never seen anyone other than the librarian, so I've said it all.

"Uh?"

But for some reason, there was someone other than the librarian in the library.

It was Perdes. He was sitting at a long table and reading a book with a serious face.

He was so focused that he didn't notice even though I came right behind him.

What are you reading so hard for?

I stood behind Perdes and checked the contents of the book he was reading.

Emperor Clement, the 13th Emperor who ruled during the dark ages of the empire....

Ah, it's a history book of the empire. I immediately understood the seriousness of his expression.

Because the history books of the empire were extremely boring.

Rather, it was more fun to read books about law or administration.

Anyway, you are working hard.

I was worried inwardly because Perdes and Sir Aldor were not on good terms, but it seemed I was worried for no reason.

I was proud of Perdes and looked down at him with a happy smile.

"Huh?!"

As if he sensed my gaze, Perdes turned around and screamed in surprise when he saw me.

"Is there a problem!"

It was so loud that the librarian came running in surprise.

"Nothing is going on, so go and do what you were doing."

I sent the librarian away and looked down at Perdes, who still had a surprised expression on his face. Perdes looked at me with his eyes wide like a rabbit, then frowned and asked.

"If you come, you have to say you came, what if you just stand still? I was so surprised that I thought it was a ghost."

"Perdes was so focused that I couldn't talk to you. Sorry."

"No, whatever. I didn't mean to hear an apology......"

Perdes stood up, touching the back of his neck, looking a little embarrassed.

"What's going on here?"

"I have something to look for."

"Territory work?"

"Yes. I have some work to do before summer comes."

Perdes' eyes landed on the stack of documents I was holding.

"Do you want me to help you?"

"I am grateful, but I am still okay."

"Not yet, right?"

Perdes, who immediately understood the hidden meaning of my words, pinpointed that part and asked me back.

As expected, you are quick-witted.

I answered with a smile and placed the documents I had brought down across from him.

"Pam New's history book will be easier to read than the history book you are reading now."

And then I expressed that I didn't want to talk about this topic anymore.

"..."

Perdes, who understood right away this time, looked at me and then turned around.

"You said it was a history book of Pam New, right?"

"Yes. Would you like me to find it for you?"

"It's okay. I'll look for it."

I followed him, almost running.
