TGDHW - Chapter 62

"Shit..."

Inside the tent set up at the campsite, Callion rested his chin on his hand, grumbling. He had been irritated to the limit since morning.

Even though monsters appear frequently, they usually stay quiet for about two weeks once they appear; to think they would show up again so quickly. If they were insignificant, sending only Cedric and the Knights would have sufficed, but upon hearing that they were flying types, Callion gritted his teeth and had to leave the Grand Duke's castle.

Although it is possible to attack with a bow, there are limitations. Therefore, flying monsters were quite difficult to catch because you had to attack them without letting them escape the moment they landed on the ground.

No matter how few in number they were, if they lacked the knack and skill to deal with them, an entire unit could easily be wiped out.

And what annoys Callion more than anything about the monster right now is...

“...It takes a long time.”

If you're unlucky, it can take weeks to catch flying monsters. Callion became anxious as he thought about how he had stayed in the mountain range for two whole months waiting for the ten flying monsters that appeared a few years ago.

The fragment of the ocean he had left on the bedside table kept flickering before his eyes. Of course, it wasn't flickering because he wanted to see it.

'I wanted to come back after watching it happen.'

He recalled the image of Erna clinging to him, begging him to hand over any more if he had any, when he had first given her the Fragment of the Ocean. She was the kind of person whose eyes would gleam and who would be at a loss for words even when given just one. He had seen her gaze never leave it, even as she told him to take it back since she no longer needed it. Moreover, he remembered her clutching it tightly while sleeping.

'Since I gave you something like that...'

He had collected them, thinking that he might need them someday. Callion took them all out of the safe in his room and placed them on the bedside table.

She must have liked it. Erna, who usually maintains a dignified demeanor befitting a Grand Duke in front of others, completely lets her guard down in front of him as if nothing had happened. She might have jumped up and down on the bed, wondering what to do. If he had been there with her, he would have asked if he was really giving it to her and thanked him...

“Ahem, ahem!”

Callion ran his hand over his flushed face. Nothing had happened, yet for some reason, his cheek felt ticklish. As if something had touched it.

Lost in his own delusions, he looked down between his legs a moment later. Since Erna wasn't there, it was neatly tucked away inside his pants. Callion glared genuinely at a part of his body.

He remembered the time those red lips had bitten his. That feeling was truly ecstatic, enough to make him glad he would die right then and there. But that wasn't where Callion wanted to be. Why on earth did she turn downwards, leaving my face right in front of her...?

Callion sighed deeply and closed his eyes. Since night patrols were shared equally among everyone from Callion to the new recruits, he needed to get at least a little sleep during his break. However, Callion soon tossed and turned and ended up opening his eyes again.

Whenever he closed his eyes to sleep, the incident with Erna kept coming to mind.

'He couldn't finish it.'

Last night, as they made love, Callion aimed for Erna's lips time and time again. But each time, Erna turned her head away. So, in the end, Callion failed to kiss Erna until the very end. They had made love to their heart's content, yet why did only that fact linger in his memory, forcing him to grumble to himself like this?

'Do you... Dislike it?'

But as expected, Callion couldn't understand. I mean, hating the lips but accepting the lower body—does that even make sense? Callion turned over to the other side and closed his eyes. Then, yet another image came to mind.

Erna's promise to work hard was not empty words. Except for not kissing, Erna was truly proactive in everything.

She hugged him and moved her body together. When he ejaculated inside her, she hiccuped in surprise but wrapped her legs around his waist. Thanks to this, Callion was able to enter Erna even deeper than usual.

Honestly, even when he was moving alone, he felt a pleasure that felt like his brain was melting, but with Erna moving with him, that pleasure seemed to double, no, tenfold.

Their sweat-soaked flesh brushed against each other and pulled away; far from feeling discomfort, she was restless, longing to touch him further. As his fingers dug between Erna's, interlocked tightly, and began to move, Erna moaned and tightened her grip on his deeply inserted member. Each time this happened, Callion had to concentrate with all his might. Otherwise, he felt as though he would cum right then and there.

After devouring each other like mating beasts for hours, Erna finally ran out of energy and slumped over; Callion simply lifted her into his arms and carried her on top of him. Her voluptuous breasts pressed against his chest, crushing and creating a pleasant pressure. He enjoyed the sensation of her sweat-soaked hair covering him like a blanket and disheveling, so he gently raised his hand to tidy her hair. As he stroked her small head, Erna's eyes slowly closed.

Embracing Erna, who had fallen asleep breathing evenly, Callion was immersed in a pleasant sense of fatigue. Before he knew it, his hand was patting Erna's back.

The fact that she was asleep, oblivious to the world, even though he was touching her like this, somehow felt good. Then, Callion gently grabbed Erna's body and lifted her up.

If we kiss just like this...

However, Callion stared intently at the sleeping Erna's face before carefully placing her back down on his body. It wasn't that he wanted to lust after someone asleep and unaware of anything. He wanted to see how she would react to his actions when she was fully awake. Of course, she might slap him, but...

"Ha..."

Callion continued to toss and turn, unable to fall asleep.

'I want to go back quickly.'

The moment he thought that, Callion sprang to his feet. He stood there blankly for a moment, then ran his hand over his face.

Up until now, whenever he moved to exterminate monsters, he had never once thought about wanting to return to the Grand Duke's castle quickly. It was only natural. After all, exterminating monsters was the most fundamental of the duties he bore.

He was a Grand Duke who had nothing and expected nothing from anyone. He was a disposable pawn in his homeland, and no one in Hessengard particularly wanted him either.

Vanessa, the Chairwoman of the Council, treated him kindly, but the other council members he occasionally encountered looked at him with disapproval because he was so emaciated. They did not show much hostility toward Callion, either. After all, he was a Grand Duke who could be replaced at any moment. Back then, his life would have been in danger if someone had just run up and kicked him.

Therefore, to survive, Callion had to recover his body and, at the same time, prove his worth. A body abandoned in his homeland could not be abandoned here as well. Thus, Callion had to work diligently at everything assigned to him. Diligence was not so much a virtue as a necessity for survival.

'It must have been the same for Erna.'

Callion naturally assumed that Erna would drop out before him. After all, she had spent the entire first day sobbing. Whenever they occasionally ran into each other at the Grand Duke's castle, he wondered how she was managing to hold on. But come to think of it, it was only natural. Just like him, Erna would have had nowhere to go if she were abandoned even in Hessengard.

Callion rose from his seat, lost in thought. As expected, it seemed impossible to fall asleep tonight, no matter how hard he tried. If things were going to be like this, it would be better to go outside and talk with the knights while keeping an eye out for approaching monsters.

By the time he left the tent, the edge of the campsite became noisy. Callion immediately went on alert, but upon realizing they were people from the village he had visited that morning, he sheathed his sword.

'I'll have to send them back right away.'

At the sound of the woman's voice, Callion felt a deeper sense of disgust than usual.

'Why on earth does he think I would leave Erna behind and hug her?'

They are incomprehensible people. Why would a married man with a wife want another woman? Just as he approached, a woman named Freya came over and greeted him. Callion, who was about to tell her to leave immediately, noticed that Freya had hair and eye colors similar to Erna's. Consequently, he found himself looking her up and down without realizing it.

“...”

And she felt it painfully. That just because people have the same hair and eye color, they never look alike.

How could it be that the feeling is so different from Erna's, even though it is the same color? Erna's blonde hair sparkled even in the darkness and was softer than silk to the touch. And what about her eyes? They are a green that holds the lush foliage of dazzling leaves swaying in the midsummer sun.

Callion decided to stop the comparison there. He would have felt apologetic if he had compared their faces. Then, Callion's eyes fell upon the splendid clothes Freya was wearing.

'Why doesn't Erna wear things like this?'

Erna wore the loose-fitting robes typically worn by wizards. However, on days when there were government meetings or when she had to fulfill her duties as a Grand Duke, she wore the Grand Duke's ceremonial robes.

Since she wore the Grand Duke's ceremonial robes even on the days banquets were held, it was a rare occurrence—so few that one could count them on one hand—for Erna to wear a gorgeous dress. It was only at the welcoming banquet for Havand's delegation that she wore something other than her ceremonial robes for the first time in a long while. He thinks that’s why she seemed even more frantic that day...

Callion looked at the clothes Freya was wearing and thought, "When I go back this time... maybe I should give her clothes like this as a gift?"

So Callion told Freya to come a little closer. Then Freya deliberately staggered, clearly visible to anyone, and clung to Callion's embrace.

At that moment, Callion felt an unbearable discomfort. It had always been this way. He hated being touched by anyone terribly, and he hated it even more if it was a woman.

'But why, Erna?'

He wondered if he wanted her to be the one to hold him in her arms and kiss her first. Just then, she heard the voice he had been wanting to hear.

"Is that so? Then you would be best to go home and get some good rest."

Callion turned around in surprise at the voice.

“Er...na?”

At first, he thought his ears had gone crazy. But unless his eyes were as crazy as his ears, the person he was seeing was definitely Erna. Callion shoved Freya out of his arms and ran straight toward Erna.

“Erna? How did you get here...?”

The surprise was great, but the joy of seeing her was even greater. Just as Callion was about to grab her, Erna swatted his hand away, glanced at Freya standing there blankly, and spoke.

“Why? Were you surprised to get caught?”
