HPBLL - Chapter 68

Stella sent Skyle ahead. He was in a daze, so he followed Stella's instructions and returned to his place. Stella requested a meeting with her, just as Kratex had instructed. She was worried that she might refuse since she had arrived earlier than scheduled, but fortunately, Kratex readily agreed to meet her.

"I'm sorry for calling you out like this when it's not even the date we agreed upon."

Kratex let out a humming sound as if it were no big deal.

"We wizards are actually quite loyal."

"Oh, really?"

Usually, wizards had a strong image of being eccentrics.

"Since I'm stuck in the lab and don't get to meet many people, I tend to maintain long-term relationships with those I connect with."

However, Kratex was very different from the wizard she had imagined.

"Then, you'll keep the secret well, too?"

"Of course. Did you come to ask me to keep quiet about Lady Stella being a wizard?"

Stella nodded. Then Kratex spoke in a gentle voice.

"I naturally assumed it would be a secret."

"Did you come to tell me that?" she asked, and Stella brought up another question.

"Could you tell me how to develop magic by any chance?"

Kratex groaned, as if deep in thought.

"It varies from person to person. Most people chant spells, or physical training is also necessary."

"Then... what about hallucination magic?"

"Ah, that’s not my field. I’m not entirely sure, but I’m sure you’ll definitely improve if you practice a lot. I’ve heard that practice is especially important for hallucinations. I understand that you need to be clearly aware that you are using magic."

Stella was puzzled by how easily the story came out, more so than she had expected.

"Is it okay if you tell me this?"

"So what? It's not like I taught you a magic spell or a precise method. Oh, and you came at just the right time. I actually had something for you."

Kratex told Stella to wait a moment, then went into and came out of the building.

"Please take this with you, too.'

"... an antidote?"

Kratex nodded. Stella was both happy and uneasy about getting the antidote sooner than expected.

"It wasn't difficult to make, so I made it quickly. It doesn't contain enough power to detoxify that potion, though."

"Thank you."

***

'Kratex said it would be difficult to completely detoxify it, but there is always a possibility.'

Stella clutched the antidote tightly in both hands. She hoped it would be of at least some help to Kendrick. Evening came, and Kendrick returned.

"Where did you go today?"

He must have received a report from his subjects about where Stella had been, but seeing that he was asking again, it seemed like he had something he wanted to say.

"It's Roy's house."

Kendrick untied his tie and approached Stella.

"It wasn't even the day you were supposed to go."

"I had something to do."

Stella stroked his cheek.

"Why? Did your heart hurt by any chance?"

Stella's eyes were filled with worry. Kendrick slightly clenched and then released his fist.

"I can't concentrate on work because I'm anxious about my wife."

And with a weak expression, he buried his face near Stella's neck.

"I have no appetite, and I think I have a fever."

Stella was startled and touched Kendrick's forehead. She touched it, and touched it, and touched it again.

'It's exactly the same.'

Stella pressed her forehead against Kendrick's to check their temperatures. It seemed that Stella was actually hotter. However, Kendrick's face was slightly flushed. Thinking that she had taken the temperature incorrectly, she hurriedly grabbed some medicine.

"Drink up."

"Cold medicine?"

"No. It is medicine I received from an Imperial Wizard. It will help with your heart pain."

Instead of taking the medicine Stella offered, Kendrick climbed onto the bed and sat down. Stella poured it into a cup and held it out to Kendrick.

"I'm so tired today that I don't have the energy to drink."

'Still, give it a drink."

"Feed me."

Stella wore a troubled expression. She was even more bewildered because Kendrick had never acted this spoiled before.

'Should I ask them to bring a spoon?'

As she glanced at the door instead of Kendrick, Kendrick pulled Stella's arm toward him.

"Hmph."

Stella ended up sitting on Kendrick's thigh.

"Hurry."

Thinking that Kendrick must be very tired, she brought the cup to his lips. No matter how carefully she tilted the cup, the liquid dripped down his lips.

"You're spilling it all. It must be precious medicine."

Kendrick licked the antidote with his tongue.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

"There is something better than a spoon right here."

Kendrick lightly tapped Stella's lips. Stella felt dizzy for some reason.

"No, I do not want."

Stella felt like Kendrick was provoking her on purpose. She slowly closed and opened her eyes. She saw the corners of Kendrick's mouth turn up slightly.

'Right. He must be doing this on purpose.'

Stella pushed Kendrick's chest to break free, but as soon as he grabbed her wrist, she slumped back into his arms. Stella, who had been struggling in his embrace, stopped thrashing and met Kendrick's gaze.

"Kendrick, I went to Roy without saying anything and got upset, right?"

"Did you just realize that?"

Kendrick smiled lazily and stroked Stella's head. As she buried her face in Kendrick's chest, Stella's pronunciation became slurred.

"Roy and I are just friends."

"That's just your opinion."

At his words, Stella couldn't help but realize that Kendrick had been secretly suffering a lot. When she had first regressed, she was blinded by the thought of living a life different from her previous one.

Stella went to Roy without hesitation and became his disciple and friend. Since she had told him she was Duchess Adrian when she formally introduced herself to him, she never imagined that Roy had feelings for her.

"Feed me."

As Kendrick urged her on, Stella stopped reminiscing and blushed.

"I can't do it."

"Why are you embarrassed? We're a married couple."

Perhaps because she felt sorry for Kendrick, it was hard to firmly refuse his request.

'He must have developed a taste for teasing me.'

Her face turned as red as a tomato. Thinking that since she was going to do it anyway, she might as well get it over with quickly, she took a sip of the antidote. Then, she pressed her lips against Kendrick's. The potion warmed in Stella's mouth and slid into Kendrick's mouth. Kendrick's Adam's apple twitched, and a suggestive gulping sound was heard. Not long after, their lips pulled away, making a lewd sound.

"It's delicious."

A growling voice like a beast was heard. Stella took this opportunity to slip out of his embrace.

"Ugh."

At that moment, Kendrick clutched his heart and cried out in pain.

"Kendrick, are you okay?"

Stella became anxious at the thought that the antidote might be wrong.

"Is the medicine wrong?"

She put her ear to his heart and examined his complexion from various angles.

"I feel like my heart is beating faster because I'm kissing you."

Stella ended up raising her hand at Duke Adrian. She struck Kendrick on the back with a loud smack.

"What is this? You really surprised me.'

Kendrick burst into laughter, as if Stella were simply adorable.

***

For the past few days, Stella's daily life had been peaceful. Although her illness was worsening, she was grateful for everything in life because of it. She didn't know when Kendrick's heart pain would intensify again, but since he had taken Kratex's antidote, he wouldn't be seriously ill for the time being.

'The most important thing is for me to shake off my loneliness.'

The kingdom had more wizards than the empire, and unlike the empire, they were free to work in various fields.

'If I am selected as the Imperial Writer, let's go to the Kingdom and find Kendrick's antidote.'

Lino is earning money as a knight of the Duke's family and living happily with Lina, while Skyle also visits occasionally to spend time with Stella. Roy is still a popular writer, so there were no issues, and Sia sent a letter thanking them for lending her manpower, saying she had found a clue to locate the group conducting the body experiments. Marie is also getting along well with people thanks to her quiet and kind personality.

'I am concerned about what happened between Kendrick and Lady Decrit, though.'

Stella trusted Kendrick. She believed that when the time came, he would explain why he had maintained contact with her despite their bitter history.

And, Stella developed a new interest. It was 'magic.'

In between writing, Stella researched hallucinatory magic and looked through books. Roy read and compared the text Stella had initially brought with the text she had just written.

"Your magical power has certainly increased a lot. It seems to be because you’ve realized you’re a wizard; magic is more prominent in your recent writings."

"Exactly how?"

"The first one was only noticeable to me. A blurry afterimage came to mind. But the writing you produce these days is so clear that anyone can recognize it."

Roy pointed at a part of the manuscript with his finger.

"I was especially startled by the scene where the golden rabbit fell from the sky. I even flinched, trying to catch it."

Stella's expression changed subtly.

"A golden rabbit?"

"Right. Golden rabbit."

"This isn't a golden rabbit. It's just a glowing rabbit."

"What? It looked like a golden rabbit to me."

Stella had only been described as a "shining rabbit." So Roy and Stella realized something. Her illusion magic is slightly different from other illusion magic. Stella cannot control the illusions of others 100 percent. The reader did not see the scene Stella imagined, but rather the scene they had imagined while reading the text.

In other words, it meant that even with the same text, what is seen differs from person to person.

'I guess I'll have to do more experiments.'

Stella became curious. She wondered how powerful this magical ability was and how she could use it. If she could handle her ability well, it would help her be appointed as an Imperial Writer.

'Who would be good?'

Just then, someone caught her eye.

"You just holed up in your study writing again today, didn't you? I asked the chef, and he said you even left some food on your plate."

It was Skyle who was nagging.

"Open your mouth. I bought cookies."

Stella didn't crave sweet food.

"I said, open your mouth. I'll feed you."

Also, although she left a little bit of breakfast uneaten, she ate until she was full. She ate bread, soup, and fish, but she didn't touch the meat dish that the chef had prepared late because it looked greasy.

"I'm not hungry."

When Stella refused, Skyle covered her eyes. Unable to see and write, Stella opened her mouth.

"What the hell are you doing!"

She couldn't even properly question what he was doing, so she had to just mumble with a cookie in her mouth.

"So you should have made sure to eat when I was being nice."

Of course, even though he grumbled, she wasn't too offended because he did it out of concern for Stella.

I just wanted to tease them a little.
