SOIC - Chapter 59

Episode 59. Olivia and the Magic Dome

Noah frowned at John's scream as he held the control panel and ran inside the dome.

John explained, stepping aside hastily at the Prince's appearance.

“Suddenly, the gun isn’t firing.”

Noah carefully examined the instrument panel, his eyes shining.

“There is nothing wrong with the dashboard.”

As he said, the instrument panel was intact. All the readings remained at stable levels.

Meanwhile, the coelacanth's attacks continued.

Noah's mouth tightened, and he placed his hand on the charging terminal. The terminal glowed golden, responding to his magical power, and the barrage resumed.

When the distinctive gunfire sound of "dudududu" was heard, John, who had handed the terminal to Noah, scratched his head in embarrassment and then tilted his head.

"Why did you suddenly do that? Your Highness, I will finish it."

But Noah, who was injecting magic power into the terminal, muttered in a serious voice.

“That’s strange.”

"Yes?"

“This is strange.”

Noah squinted his eyes, keenly observing the sensations in his fingertips. He kept feeling a strange, unfamiliar sensation, like something was tugging.

Noah kept his mouth shut and focused all his attention on his hearing this time.

It was to hear the sound of shelling.

The noise and the underwater shelling made him several times more alert than usual.

He closed his eyes and focused on the sound for a while.

Noah slowly opened his eyes.

Between the sound of gunfire, which was going “doo doo doo doo,” came the sound of metal going “kang, kang, kang.”

“Sigh... Shit.”

John's face turned pale as he was insulted by Noah.

“John.”

"Yes!"

"Spread out to the starboard and stern. Whoever brought that junk here, it looks like it's about to be destroyed."

The steel-like head of the coelacanth leaped out of the water, flashing like a blade.

Meanwhile, Olivia, who had been in a panic, came to her senses.

The calm and composed expression of Meson, who was standing by her side, also played a part in calming her down.

“Madam, are you okay?”

Olivia looked at Mrs. Winfred's face, which was suffering from motion sickness.

“Ah... don’t worry, Miss.”

Mrs. Winfred tried to force a smile, but eventually she couldn't stand it anymore and closed her eyes.

“Are you okay, Miss?”

When Meson, who was maintaining his balance like a cat even while shaking, suddenly asked, Olivia nodded.

“I don’t usually get motion sickness. Is His Highness in the guest room?”

“Uh... no. He’s probably just going to take down a megalodon.”

As Olivia stared at him with wide eyes, Meson realized that she didn't know much about her future husband than he thought.

"His Highness, you served as an officer in the Naval Special Forces for quite some time. He's more skilled with the Magic Dome than anyone else. He's led fleets on numerous expeditions to exterminate monsters in the Central Sea. All of his bodyguards, including me, are former members of the Special Forces. We've experienced this many times, so don't worry too much."

Olivia blinked at Meson's explanation and slowly nodded. Judging by the constant vibrations and gunfire emanating from the lower hull, the magic dome seemed to be functioning properly.

Olivia lowered her eyes and carefully traced the sound of the cannon fire. The structure of the ship-shaped magic dome formed a clear image in her mind.

There was virtually no gunfire coming from outside the ship. Vibrations were limited to up-and-down movements, with no left-right movement at all.

“It looks like they’re only bombarding the lower parts.”

As Olivia, who was feeling the sound with her whole body, hummed, Meson opened his eyes wide and looked at her.

But just then, the sound of artillery fire, which had been so dull that it was almost tiresome, suddenly stopped.

“Are you done?”

Olivia, who had been concentrating on the sound, tilted her head and muttered when sporadic blows came pouring down from below like hail.

Meson's brow furrowed instantly.

Have you lost your mind?! Why did you stop attacking? If a hole were to rip through the ship, it would sink into the vast ocean!

Fortunately, however, the attack soon resumed.

How could the sound of artillery fire sound so peaceful? Meson sighed, brushing away his startled heart. He wished he could be in the Magic Dome. It would be more comforting to just watch, and being in a place where nothing could be seen was a bit unsettling.

But just then, Olivia asked him a question out of the blue.

“The monster attacks are still continuing, right?”

“...Yes, right?”

“Until when?”

“It would be safe to go about 100km away.”

“In terms of time?”

“Well, it’s not a warship, so it’ll take at least an hour to get there...”

“What happens if the Magic Dome breaks down now?”

Meson blinked and then declared.

“No way.”

Without the Magic Dome, there were far too few people to handle this large ship.

At Meson's assertion, Olivia bit her lip for a moment and closed her eyes. Meson couldn't hide his bewilderment at her sudden attitude. It didn't seem like it was simply a sign of anxiety.

However, Meson's expression soon darkened. At some point, he heard the ominous sound of metal following the sound of artillery fire.

At that moment, Olivia opened her eyes wide, unbuckled her seatbelt, and stood up.

“Oh, no!”

Unlike Meson, who stood lithely like a cat, Olivia stumbled the moment she stood up. The ship was so large that every jolt was a significant shock.

Olivia sat down on the road and thought carefully.

She loves to run to the Magic Dome herself, but that would be impossible in a situation where she couldn't even stand. She couldn't be carried by Meson, and even if she did arrive, there was no way they could just show the main body to her, who seemed to have no connection to the Magic Dome.

Olivia's dark eyes flashed as she commanded Meson.

"Meson, if you go to my bedroom, there's a brown leather bag in the closet. Open it, and you'll find a fountain pen, a notebook, and a silver, palm-sized object. Please bring it to me."

It was an incomprehensible statement from beginning to end, but Meson, overcome by her resolute momentum, turned around in a daze and moved.

While Meson fetched her notebook and pen, Olivia refastened her seatbelt. It was impossible to stand still, let alone tremble, so she had no idea how they were holding the monster.

As soon as Meson appeared with a notebook, pen, and flashlight, Olivia held out her hand to him.

“Why this now...”

Meson tilted his head and held out the items, and Olivia opened her notebook and began quickly drawing something. She spoke as she drew, as if taking a photograph.

"It's urgent, so don't ask questions and just listen. Enter the Magic Dome main body and open the machine room door. You'll immediately see the cooler, converter, and magic transport pipe."

Olivia continued, turning the drawing she had drawn towards Meson.

"If you hear a metallic sound mixed in with the gunfire, it's most likely a converter heat issue. There's a coolant inlet at the top of the cooler, so check it. If it's empty, add water. Don't touch the converter. Look at the pipelines. There's a valve on each pipe."

Olivia made a circular mark on the valve location.

"We need to lower the temperature, so we need to close some of the valves. You do this by pulling down on the valve handle. A ship this size should have a maximum of 32, but keep it to about 20 and close them all. Oh, and when you close the valves, you have to stop the magic injection!"

While Meson stared blankly at her notebook, Olivia cleverly tore out the page with the drawing. Then she handed him the flashlight along with the torn drawing.

"You said you were a wizard, right? Just like you'd inject magic into a magic dome, if you inject magic into the silver plate, it'll light up. Use it to illuminate the interior."

He looked like someone caught in a midsummer sleet. What kind of unexpected situation was this?

“Meson, come on!”

Only after Olivia, feeling frustrated, urged him did Meson's eyes come into focus.

Yes. More important than how she knew about the Magic Dome, whether this information was accurate, or what the silver object was, was that the Magic Dome didn't break until they passed through the Coelacanth's territory.

“Yes. Don’t worry too much, I’ll be right back if anything happens.”

“Don’t worry about me, just hurry.”

Meson checked Olivia's seatbelt again and quickly disappeared.

Leaving the room and running down the corridor, Meson glanced down. A variety of magical energies were rippling beneath the surface. Noah, realizing the anomaly in the Magic Dome, had apparently ordered his guards to attack.

But it would be impossible to protect this large ship with just four or five people's magical powers.

Fortunately, judging by the fact that the Magic Dome's bombardment sound was still continuing, it didn't seem to be destroyed right away.

“We can’t be buried because of a fish head!”

Meson gritted his teeth and moved his feet faster. He deftly navigated the cluttered corridor, passed the wheelhouse, and even leaped over the iron bridge.

The private mercenaries hired to guard the Magic Dome were dangling from the railing, seemingly devoid of the energy to carry out their duties. The magicians had dispersed to their respective positions at Noah's direction, leaving the Magic Dome entrance empty.

As Meson entered the Magic Dome without hesitation, Noah, who had been injecting magical energy into the terminal, sensed the presence and turned his head. Spotting Meson, Noah's already tense brow furrowed in anger.

“I told you to stay next to Olivia, why are you here!!”

Meson did not respond to Noah's scolding, but gathered his magical power in his hand and shouted.

“Tearing down the machine room?!! Please take responsibility!!”

Noah's gaze became fiercer than ever.

It's already a terrifying night, so where is the dog barking?

And at the same time, sparks flew from the entrance to the machine room with a loud bang.

“Just give me some stupid reason!!”

As Noah screamed, Meson once again struck the engine room doorknob with his magical power, and the steel door tilted with a metallic sound before opening its mouth.
