SOIC - Chapter 46

Episode 46. Ansen Visit to Margot's House

As soon as Meson left the Prince's room, he was confronted by another lion. Streaking across the hallway was none other than Princess Marguerite.

As Meson quickly approached, Margot stopped walking and wiggled her eyebrows.

“I came to meet Prince Noah.”

“Please wait a moment.”

It was impossible to leave the Princess standing in the hallway, but Noah was wearing only a gown.

Meson quickly entered the room and told the Prince about her visit.

“Take her to the reception room. I’ll change clothes and go out.”

While Meson was out, Noah quickly got up and began dressing. He quickly put on his clothes, neatly combing his somewhat tangled hair, and as he stepped out, Margot spoke to him.

“I came here without any reason. Please forgive me.”

“You say it’s nothing, that’s not true. Have you eaten?”

When Noah asked while sitting on the sofa, Margot shook her head slightly.

“I’m done eating.”

At her refusal, Noah winked and bit the people.

When the two of them were left alone, Margot took a deep breath and chose her words calmly.

All day, Noah and Olivia haunted her mind. At first glance, she thought she was living a good life, but then, at second glance, she worried that it might lead to ruin.

But she was, after all, a third party. She had no right to interfere with the marriage of the legitimate Prince.

Besides, she has never been a proper aunt to Noah, so meddling in his personal affairs is just a nuisance.

“First of all, congratulations.”

Noah remained silent and stared at Margot.

“It must not have been an easy decision for you either.”

“...”

“You’ve thought this marriage through thoroughly, haven’t you?”

Noah leaned back on the sofa and looked at his aunt with a languid gaze.

He didn't like the idea of his aunt suddenly showing up and expressing her concern.

He actually didn't like Margot very much. She was someone who enjoyed the power of a Princess while neglecting her duties. That was his assessment of her.

Herod's sexism is appalling. No matter how much she tried to justify herself, she ultimately failed to fulfill her duty. On that note, she would sometimes look at him with a look that seemed to implore him to behave himself. How could he possibly like that?

“Hey, Noah.”

“Yes, go ahead.”

Margot opened her mouth, feeling the arrogant gaze of her nephew.

“Olivia is a good girl.”

Noah chuckled at that.

Yes, yes, I guess so.

“Wise and smart.”

“Of course. And she’s pretty too.”

“...Don’t speak lightly.”

“Surely you don’t mean to come now and tell me to forget the proposal, do you, Your Highness Princess Marguerite?”

He asked, throwing away the polite 'aunt' he had been calling her.

If it were normal, she would have been furious and yelled at him for being so rude, but this time, it was Margot herself who was being overbearing.

“How could that be? When did I ever act as your aunt?”

"That's right. I don't think you came here because you were worried about me. What do you want to say?"

“I hope you take a good look at it.”

Noah's eyes narrowed.

"Your wedding will be a huge hit. Perhaps even the novel-like story will already be running through the newspapers as if it were fact."

“...”

"A Prince who loved a poor commoner. A royal family that recognized and supported their love. A marriage beyond their means... Poor Olivia."

“...”

"I heard several newspapers in Pulder have already taken photos of the area around Olivia's house. Rumors have spread that Prince Herod showed up at the police station in the middle of the night and took a woman away. This is proof that you're already writing a convincing novel."

And you would have wanted it.

“How shabby her house was, how poor her life was, and how dramatically her life changed.”

Noah was starting to get bored.

“So?”

Noah cut h    er off mid-sentence.

"The media's babble? The speculation? I've endured it countless times. As Herod's Prince. The King says it's my duty."

That duty you threw away and ran away from.

"Poor, pitiful Olivia Liberty marries a man she doesn't deserve? Is that wrong?"

"...”

“Isn’t it true that her marriage to me will lead to a huge rise in status and that her life will change overnight?”

By giving of herself, Olivia will gain security and abundance.

Noah will give her safety and abundance, and he will find peace.

No matter what the media says or what they say about Olivia's past, it's something that has to be tolerated to some extent.

"As my aunt said, that woman must be smart. She asked me several times if I needed her."

"So?"

"I said it was necessary. The public attention, while not perfect, was somewhat predictable. The clothes were also chosen just right for the location."

Margot pressed her hand to her forehead at the words that blurted out without restraint.

“But you should have worried about me first.”

It's not that he's upset that she doesn't worry about him, but Margot wasn't the subject of that.

Noah was truly astonished. He wanted to ask her. If she cared so much, what did she do for Olivia?

And Noah hated hearing advice from someone who didn't care about the subject. If he had time, he'd rather read a book or play a game of polo.

“I understand what you are worried about, Aunt.”

“...”

“You don’t know me, just as I don’t know you.”

The expression on Noah's face slowly disappeared.

The green eyes, locked in sharp gazes, seemed to see the green leaves of an old tree, or the wildness of a beast barely able to pretend to be calm before hunting.

As he said, Margot doesn't know Noah.

Noah leaned over and spoke softly.

“I will take care of her in my own way, just as my aunt took care of her in your own way.”

At the warning to stop giving presumptuous advice, Margot nodded and stood up.

“Forgive my rudeness, Noah. It won’t happen again.”

“I’m planning to leave in about five days. Would you like to come with me?”

"No. I have plans this week. I'll follow you as soon as I'm done."

"All right."

“I’ve taken up a lot of your time. I’ll be going now.”

Margot turned and walked away, and Noah walked beside her, opening the door for her.

Margot stopped short of stepping out the door. She hesitated for a moment before adding her final words.

"Don't just take care of her, be with her. Olivia is a child you can be with."

“...”

“Don’t babysit her. Let her do what she can do.”

After saying that, Margot walked away.

Noah leaned against the door and watched Margot's back as she walked away for a long time before closing the door.

Don't take care of others; be with them.

It cannot be anything other than a vague and abstract statement like the saying, ‘Live well.’

Noah pushed the presumptuous advice out of his head and unbuttoned the button at the back of his neck.

***

Ansen frowned, completely unable to understand the reports flowing through his ears. Even so, his secretary's report continued.

“...Two months ago, Olivia Liberty put her house on the market, but this afternoon she informed me that she had no intention of selling. A representative from Royal Boutique visited Princess Marguerite's residence in person, bringing with her a complete collection of women's clothing and various jewelry.”

“What happened at the hotel today?”

"It has been confirmed that Olivia Liberty has come to see Prince Noah. The reason for their meeting has not been confirmed."

“...Is there any movement on Olivia’s part to find a job?”

"No."

Ansen felt his heart pounding. A sense of crisis crept up on him, sending a chill down the back of his neck.

He gestured to the secretary and then stiffened, thinking back on the situation.

Noah Astrid showed up at the police station and took Olivia away. Olivia came to the hotel to meet him.

Olivia suddenly refuses to sell the house where the scandal occurred. She also has a full collection of women's clothing from the famously expensive Royal Boutique.

The possibilities were narrowed down to one, but he couldn't accept it or believe it.

Why?

Why, Noah Astrid? There's no way he would do that without benefit...

“...There it is.”

There is a benefit.

It may not be to Noah Astrid's personal advantage, but it is definitely beneficial to the royal family.

Ansen abruptly rose from his seat. He grabbed his jacket and kicked open the door. His secretary, who had been waiting in a chair, quickly stood up.

“Olivia, you said she was at Princess Marguerite’s mansion?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Have the carriage ready. I’ll be there right away.”

Ansen headed straight to Princess Marguerite's mansion.

Marguerite Astrid openly disliked Ansen Wilhelm. True to her royal instincts, she was utterly arrogant and overbearing, openly expressing her likes and dislikes.

Ansen never went near her house because he didn't need to get on her nerves.

But in reality, Ansen Wilhelm was now in a position where a mere Princess who had even given up her right to succession could not dare to act rashly.

So, there was no reason for him to hesitate about going to her house.

Of course, that doesn't mean he can treat her carelessly.

“What are you doing here?”

Marguerite stood with her back to the mansion, staring intently at him. The sunlight streaming behind her cast a golden glow over her silhouette, and her blue eyes were piercing.

“I don’t remember making an appointment to meet with the Wilhelm representative.”

Ansen bowed his head politely, then raised it and spoke politely.

"Forgive my rudeness, Princess. I heard Olivia was here, so I came to see her. I'd like to meet with her for a moment."

As it happened, Margot was on her way back from meeting Noah.

Her mood was utterly filthy, as if she'd been thrown into a swamp. In such a situation, this thick-skinned thief was making such a ridiculous demand, and she felt like bursting out in laughter.

"Butler."

“Yes, Princess.”

“Inform Olivia of this situation and get her to find a doctor.”

"All right."

Margot left Ansen standing on the road, unmoving. She simply stared intently into Ansen's brown eyes, her blue eyes fixed on his.

Fortunately, the butler brought back the answer Margot wanted within a few minutes.

“I’m sorry, but she wishes you would go back, because you never promised to meet, and there’s no reason for you to meet.”

Margot gently raised the corners of her lips, satisfied that Olivia hadn't come out herself.

"I think that answers your question. Besides, I don't want to have any guests today. Let's find a convenient time for a meal or something. See you then."

Ansen spoke urgently to Margot, who turned around elegantly after saying those words.

“Is she going to Herod?”

“...”

“Is she going to Herod’s palace?”

As soon as those words left his mouth, Margo turned around and glared at him, baring her teeth.

“How dare you?”
