<Episode 147: Side Story (11)>
Killian believed that a truly meaningful gift was one that he had put effort and care into choosing, thinking about Emily himself.
Of course, that's a concept limited to Emily.
When choosing gifts for other people, it was like, 'You figure it out, send it yourself,' or 'Can I just give you money?'
As he talked to Pete, Killian suddenly missed his beloved Emily.
“Then, after purchasing the mine and the island, you return to the Robert Empire.”
Pete quickly grabbed Killian, who was trying to get up after tidying up his seat.
“Excuse me, Your Excellency. Have you decided on a name for the child?”
“Why the name?”
"You said you were giving it to a child. So, aren't you buying it in the child's name?"
“Ah... Now that I think about it, that’s true.”
At those words, Killian sat back down in his chair as if he hadn't even thought about it, lost in thought.
“We need to know if it’s a boy or a girl before we can decide on a name.”
"You probably can't tell now, right? Even with a magic detector, it takes three months to determine the fetus's gender."
“Fortunately, then, there’s not much left.”
“Then, should we buy it after the name is decided?”
“Do that.”
Since he had already decided to go see Emily, he didn't feel like talking to Pete any further.
He waved at Pete to go away and then hurried to Emily's room.

“I’ll take a deep breath now.”
“Ye, then I’ll go out.”
Toto and Cezanne left the room after clearing Emily's plate. It was clear that since becoming pregnant, she'd been falling asleep all the time.
'It's broad daylight, and I'm still sleepy.'
Her eyelids were getting heavier and heavier, to the point where she didn't even notice the light coming through the gap in the partially closed curtains.
“Emily.”
At that moment, Killian came into the room.
"Honey..."
Emily, who was almost asleep, frowned at the intruder who had woken her from her deep slumber.
“Didn’t you meet Cezanne outside?”
Killian tensed involuntarily at Emily's somewhat sharp voice. Of course, even that sight was endearing to him.
“We met.”
“What did she say?”
“She said you were going to take a nap...”
Emily cut him off and asked.
“Then what should you do?”
“I just need to lie quietly next to you without saying anything.”
“You’re wrong.”
Emily said with a sigh.
“You should leave me alone so I can sleep comfortably without being disturbed.”
"...All right."
"But please don't leave me alone all the time. It's so lonely waking up alone in this big bed."
"...Yes."
Well, Killian didn't know what she wanted him to do, but he politely agreed. That compromise wasn't for Emily to figure out; it was for Killian to find on his own.
After she became pregnant, his wife had a very difficult time.
***
As Emily entered her third month of pregnancy, she was finally able to use a magic detector to detect the baby's gender.
“I didn’t know something like this existed.”
"It was invented not long ago. It's being used experimentally in the Robert Empire, and they say it has a 99% accuracy rate."
Pete said, pulling the detector out of his bag.
“Please do it for me, too. I keep arguing with Knox over the baby’s gender.”
Marlene and Knox had also come to visit the Velvet Mansion after hearing that Pete had procured a detector from the Robert Empire.
Two months ago, after a successful wedding, Marlene's pregnancy began to show clearly as her belly began to swell, and she could even feel the baby's movements.
Knox insisted that the child was a boy, citing the child's unusual kicking ability, but Marlene, who wanted a girl, wanted to decorate the child's room like a Princess's room.
That's why they had different opinions and wanted to know the baby's gender quickly.
“Marlene, then. You want to go first?”
A nervous Emily passed the turn to Marlene.
“I wonder?”
“Well then, Mrs. Clive, let’s start by determining the sex of the fetus.”
Pete gently placed the probe on Marlene's stomach.
If the red light flashed, it was a boy, and if the blue light flashed, it was a girl. The detector made a beeping sound and flashed, then gradually began to show a single color.
“It’s green! It’s my daughter!”
When the results came in, Marlene jumped for joy and hugged Knox's neck.
“A daughter...?”
Knox stared blankly back and forth between the detector and Marlene's stomach.
Marlene's mood became tense at Knox's lukewarm response.
"Why are you reacting like that? You're not disappointed because she's your daughter, are you?"
“No way.”
Knox shook his head quickly. A sense of guilt washed over him, a sense of impending death, of having said the wrong thing.
“I’m afraid of raising a daughter in this harsh world.”
That was actually why Knox wanted a son.
The world was too harsh and harsh for such a fragile and tender being like a child to survive.
At least sons can grow up rolling around, but aren't girls, in particular, like glass beads?
Knox grew up in a household with only three boys, and after joining the Starr family, he spent time with men.
Moreover, a girl was too difficult for him to handle.
Marlene frowned as she listened to his explanation.
"What is it? Are you from the mafia? Of course, you should protect her."
“And for now, you’re the one who’s creating a tough environment in the Vancent Empire, Knox.”
Pete said, clicking his tongue from the side.
Knox was particularly intolerant of injustice even within the Starr family, so whenever an incident occurred, Knox was always present at the scene.
The problem wasn't that they couldn't stand injustice, but that they took care of it themselves before it could be punished by law.
“And you’re not raising it alone.”
Marlene sighed and patted Knox on the shoulder.
“I will raise you and the child alone.”
Knox nodded slowly, his eyes filled with determination, and whispered into his wife's stomach.
“Baby.”
She felt the child squirm in response to Knox's voice. Marlene wrapped her arms around her belly as if it were precious.
“Dad will definitely protect you.”
The child would undoubtedly be born beautiful, inheriting only the good qualities of both him and Marlene. No, even if she were born inheriting only the bad qualities of both, he was confident he would raise her as the most precious child in the world.
Knox can now happily accept the outcome.
“Now, let’s test the detector on you, Madam.”
Pete took the probe and placed it against Emily's stomach.
Then Killian held his nervous wife's hand tightly.
Beep beep—this time, the detector made a loud noise and flashed brightly. After a moment, the sound stopped, and a red light appeared.
“It’s a son!”
Contrary to the previous couple, Emily wanted a son, while Killian secretly hoped for a daughter. He wanted a daughter who looked exactly like Emily, but it couldn't be helped.
“I want to decide on a name for my child.”
“Are you already deciding?”
"Yes."
Killian had to give this precious child the diamond mines and the island of Shantia, so a name was essential.
Emily pretended to be deeply thoughtful at Killian's words and then asked him.
“Do you have a name in mind?”
“I was already looking through the biographical dictionary with Giovanni diligently...”
Killian scratched the back of his head and carefully blurted out the name he had thought of.
“Daniel, what do you think?”
“Daniel...”
When Emily heard that name, tears suddenly welled up in her eyes.
'You were truly destined to come to us both somehow.'
She felt both grateful and sorry that Daniel came to them despite her own avoidance of having children to save her life, and her heart ached.
“Madam, why are you crying?”
Killian couldn't hide his bewilderment at the sudden, incomprehensible tears of his wife.
“If you don’t like the name, you can choose another name.”
The reason he thought of Daniel was that he wanted the name 'El', which was Emily's nickname, to be included in the child's name.
“No, I like it too much.”
Emily wiped her tears and smiled brightly.
“So, are you going to do it with Daniel?”
“Yes, let’s do that.”
Marlene muttered next to Emily with a cold expression as she looked at her.
“It’s really unusual.”
Just the name of a child brought such emotion and tears to her eyes. No matter how hard she and Knox tried, they couldn't possibly overcome that cockroach couple.
