Don't Save Me - Chapter 12

Unexpectedly, it was Lucian who appeared in front of Ravielli.

“Hello, lady.”

Lucian dismounted from his horse and smiled at Ravielli.

'He clearly said he went hunting.'

Ravielli took a couple of steps back without realizing it.

She tried to keep her face as calm as possible, but she couldn't stop the uncomfortable feeling rising in her chest.

“You don’t look well.”

Lucian lowered his beautiful eyebrows and pretended to examine Ravielli.

As he took a step forward, the scent of herbal tea seemed to fill the air again.

“Oh, you surprised me by showing up.”

Ravielli, who had stepped back again, looked up at Lucian with a hardened face.

“Why didn’t you go to the hunting grounds?”

“Wow, my goodness.”

Lucian opened his eyes wide and made an exaggerated gesture, stretching out both hands to the side like a comedian.

“It’s amazing how quickly my words spread throughout this vast mansion!"

Ravielli, her face flushed, tried to leave the garden, passing Lucian.

“Wait.”

Lucian stood still, only reaching out and grabbing Ravielli's wrist.

“I also need to hear why you didn’t go.”

“No, it’s not that important, so I’ll just...”

“No, it’s very important.”

Lucian tightened his grip on Ravielli's wrist in a quiet voice.

Ravielli tried to shake off Lucian's hand, but was unable to overcome the man's strength.

If it were normal, she might have just looked up at him with gloomy, listless eyes.

But maybe it was because the memories of last night and the image of herself lying there helpless overlapped.

Ravielli spoke in a rather firm voice.

“If you don’t let go, I’ll scream.”

“Are you going to treat the Marquis like a criminal?”

“Do you think I can’t do it?”

“Poor thing. You look completely different from the one lying peacefully in bed last night.”

“Watch what you say!”

Lucian smiled brightly without changing his expression.

Then he slowly let go of Ravielli's wrist and continued speaking.

“I have to go to Galatea, but I left something behind.”

It was then that the sound of Mage walking hurriedly with her maids could be heard.

“You’re here, Miss! You skipped your meal, and you’ve been out for so long...”

The chattering Mage immediately shut her mouth when she saw Lucian.

Lucian thought it was a good thing.

“Mage.”

At Lucian's call, Mage grunted with a pout. Lucian, who had been watching her secretly, opened his mouth.

“The young lady is going to the hunting grounds with me now, so hurry and pack her bags.”

"Yes?"

Mage looked at Ravielli with a startled expression. Of course, she wasn't the only one flustered.

Ravielli asked, not hiding his embarrassment.

“A hunting ground? What is that...?”

“I asked the maid this morning, and she said that the nearby Mount Galatea is good for taming horses.”

When Ravielli looked at Mage, Mage's face turned bright red, and she didn't know what to do.

“Is it true?”

“Well, but I thought you weren't going with the young lady.”

“Stop it. Pack your bags now before the sun sets any further.”

Lucian was giving orders with a cold gaze he had never seen before.

There was a bit of a scuffle, but eventually Ravielli had to get on the horse.

Even though Lucian hadn't forced her to do so, Ravielli couldn't say a word properly in front of him.

Even after bringing Ravielli's luggage, Mage hesitated for a long time.

It was meant for Ravielli, but things got really messed up.

Mage hesitated while holding the bag, but eventually ended up telling Ravielli that Galatea was too far away and dangerous and that she shouldn't go there.

“It’s too far and dangerous?”

“Yes, I can’t go with the young lady.”

“So does that mean I can climb that long and dangerous mountain?”

Lucian glared at Mage with a cold face.

“No, that’s not it! That’s what I mean.”

"That's exactly what you mean. Your master is a noble person, so it's not possible, and I, being of lowly means, should wander into the dangerous mountains and die."

“Oh, you don’t deserve it!”

Mage sat down on the floor and began to tremble.

“There is a maid in this mansion who is trying to endanger her master.”

Lucian's chilling voice was holding Mage captive.

"But unfortunately, I must take your master with me. I must go to that mountain today, for I have a task my father has entrusted to me."

"Yes?"

“Ravielli, I don’t want to explain to them why we have to go together. What should we do?”

Ravielli was embarrassed, but couldn't tell the maid about it.

In the end, after calming down the trembling Mage who felt like it was all her fault, Ravielli had to ride out of the mansion with Lucian.

It had been almost a year since she had left the mansion.

As she ran down the narrow path she always looked out at from the window, an emotion that was difficult to describe came over me.

Ravielli was drifting off somewhere, entrusting his body to the swaying horse.

“Let’s take a short break.”

How far had I ridden? Just as she was starting to feel a dull ache in her buttocks, the horse slowly slowed down.

Lucian paused for a moment, dismounted first, and extended his hand to Ravielli.

However, Ravielli refused Lucian's hand and skillfully climbed down from the saddle alone.

Lucian glanced at the back of Ravielli as he passed by and smiled faintly.

“So you did ride a horse in Rob, I see.”

Lucian sat down on the rock and asked Ravielli.

“...”

Ravielli didn't answer this time either.

“As a woman of noble birth, horseback riding would have been considered a basic skill.”

“...”

"Galatea is quite a distance from here. If you leave without saying a word to me, it will be a very lonely journey."

“A trip?”

Ravielli glared at Lucian with a sharp voice and added:

"Is this a trip? I thought it was a kidnapping."

Then Lucian opened his eyes wide and stared at Ravielli.

“This is the first time.”

“?”

“It looks like you’re alive.”

“...”

At the sudden words, Ravielli turned her head and frowned.

"Honestly, Ravielli. You seem quite happy about being kidnapped. Am I wrong?"

Ravielli had to struggle to hide the sound of her pounding heart.

Unfortunately, what Lucian said was true.

She was trembling with anxiety until she got on the horse.

But as she got further from the mansion, and the horse's movements, which had felt awkward, became more and more comfortable, she felt an indescribable pleasure.

But she couldn't be completely happy because the person I was with was Lucian.

Although he was trying to hide his expression, Lucian spoke as if he had seen into Ravielli's inner thoughts.

Lucian reached into his pocket and pulled out a hard, rough loaf of bread. He split it in half and offered one half to Ravielli.

“Don’t be embarrassed. You’ve been locked in the mansion, so it’s only natural that you’re feeling better now.”

“You really talk nonsense.”

Then Lucian ignored Ravielli's words, took a bite of bread, and sighed.

"Look at this! On the first day when I ate with your Father, they served bread as soft as a baby's bottom, but now you only give me this wretched bread that even pigs wouldn't eat."

Lucian shouted, waving his remaining half wildly.

At that sight, Ravielli burst out laughing.

“Do you really want to be treated as the son of the Meyer family?”

“No way, I’m really the son of the Meyer family!”

Lucian opened his eyes wide and asked back, as if he was very wronged.

“Yes, I guess so.”

Ravielli shook her head sideways and looked up into space.

How did I end up here with that man who only talks big?

What kind of expression would Theano make if he knew this?

Many thoughts crossed her mind, but she couldn't completely hide the feeling of liberation she felt leaving the mansion.

It was when Ravielli took a bite of the bread, which was as hard as tree bark, to hide her laughter.

“Ravielli, what do I look like?”

Lucian asked a question out of the blue.

“It seems like the kidnapper claims to be the son of Marquis Theano.”

Lucian chuckled at Ravielli's cold answer.

"My mother desperately wanted me to become a member of the National Assembly. Her desire was so strong that, even though I had no intention of doing so, I had to follow it."

“Are you a doctor?”

Lucian Meyer shrugged and answered.

“It just so happened.”

“I’m surprised that someone as light-hearted as you can be a doctor.”

“I heard I'm a pretty famous doctor in Hills.”

“Yes, I guess so.”

Ravielli's voice was sarcastic, but her face was more relaxed than before.

When she had almost finished eating the bread she was holding, Lucian took out a small pouch from his bosom.

“Am I still uncomfortable?”

“If that’s the case, are you going to give me a gift or something?”

Ravielli spoke in a gruff voice.

But this time, Lucian didn't fight back playfully.

"I only learned about my father when my poor mother was on the verge of death. She'd longed for him her entire life, but she never found the courage to tell me the truth until she was on her deathbed."

Then he handed the pouch to Ravielli.

She didn't know what expression to make at the unexpected story.

Ravielli carefully turned her body, which had been tilted at an angle, and sat down, fiddling with the pockets.

“Open it.”

She fiddled with her velvet pocket in silence, and after much thought, he opened it.

What was inside was a pair of quizzing glasses (glasses with a stick attached to one lens).

At first glance, it looked very flashy, but it looked like it was not made to be worn as real glasses, but more like a decoration.

But what really surprised Ravielli was Theano's initials engraved on the quizzing glass.

“This is...”

“This is the last gift my father gave my mother.”
