THST - Chapter 65

Episode 65. Please Take Good Care of My Daughter

“This is your room.”

Count Serviat and his wife and Rose’s eyes widened. The room prepared by the Grand Duke of Artaeum was more luxurious than they had expected.

Rose entered the room carrying a small suitcase. Rose felt somewhat burdened by her new room.

“Why is the room so fancy?”

It was larger than when she had stayed at Count Wence’s house. And this wasn’t the only thing that was unsettling her.

'Count Serviat and his wife are staying in an old hut, but am I allowed to enjoy this luxury all by myself?'

Rose glanced at the Serviat couple out of the corner of her eye.

They, like Rose, were looking around the room with wide eyes.

“I feel very uneasy.”

Rose whispered to Daemon, too quietly for the Grand Duke to hear.

“I guess it’ll be hard for me to stay here alone.”

“Did you change your mind after arriving?”

“It’s not that, but...”

Rose trailed off and continued.

“I don’t want to be separated from Father and Mother. Can we stay here together?”

Daemon, who had been nervous that the words “let’s go back” would come out of Rose’s mouth, finally relaxed and smiled.

“You’re not a child, you’re throwing a tantrum.”

Daemon, who was in such a good mood at Rose’s words that a clown would ascend to heaven, grumbled and replied without thinking.

The Grand Duke couldn’t take his eyes off Rose, who was whispering with Daemon.

There were patches of grass stuck to Rose’s hair. In fact, it wasn’t just her hair; her dress was the same.

'There’s grass on it.'

It looked like it had gotten on her when she rolled around in the garden with Finn.

Finn was so obsessed with Rose that Neruan had to work hard to get Finn away from Rose.

The Grand Duke of Artaeum cautiously reached out to brush the grass from Rose's hair.

Just before the Grand Duke's hand touched her head, Rose suddenly turned around.

Seeing the Grand Duke of Artaeum reaching out, Rose blinked like a startled rabbit.

The Grand Duke, who had hesitated, then casually held out his hand to Rose.

"There was grass on your hair."

"Oh... thank you."

She was startled.

She turned around, but the Grand Duke was too close.

Rose brushed her startled chest and expressed her gratitude.

The Grand Duke let out a hollow laugh, as if something amused her.

Rivera, watching, nudged Daemon next to her and whispered,

"Honey, is the Grand Duke always a person who laughs a lot?"

"Well, His Highness the Grand Duke has always been a solemn person. Why are you suddenly asking?"

Rivera's expression darkened at Daemon's words.

“Our Rose... is it really okay for us to stay at the Grand Duke of Artaeum’s mansion?”

A man and a woman in the prime of their lives, living together without even being married?

As Rose’s mother, she couldn’t help but worry.

Rivera wondered if the Grand Duke of Artaeum had feelings for her daughter.

Damon, being too dull, seemed oblivious.

Rivera looked between the Grand Duke of Artaeum and her daughter, Daemon, with a strange expression. Daemon, oblivious to Rivera’s feelings, frowned fiercely.

“Don’t be so stubborn. This is the safest place where we can avoid running into that damned Eric.”

Rivera lightly slapped Daemon on the back and spoke resolutely.

“That’s not it!”

Daemon flinched at Rivera’s hand striking him and looked at her. Rivera whispered to Daemon,

“Look at the Grand Duke’s eyes. The way he looks at Rose is unusual.”

At Rivera's words, Daemon opened his eyes blearily and stared at the Grand Duke and Rose.

"Look. He's smiling at Rose again. Didn't he just do that? I heard the Grand Duke doesn't smile much. Why would someone like that smile at Rose? Isn't it because he has feelings for her?"

Rivera grabbed Daemon's arm with a serious expression.

Her daughter, who had barely escaped the womanizing rascal Eric, wouldn't become the lover of the Grand Duke, who was rumored to be crazy?

The mere thought made Rivera's spine tingle.

She didn't want to see Rose, who had already been hurt by a man, get hurt again.

She didn't believe everything the Grand Duke said, but she knew full well that he was prickly and cold to everyone. She hoped that if Rose were to meet another man again, it would be someone who would cherish and love her.

Daemon, who had been listening to Rivera, nodded with a serious expression.

"As expected, Daemon shares my concerns."

Rivera, believing Daemon understood her feelings, was about to suggest taking Rose back.

However, Daemon spoke a step ahead of Rivera. He muttered to Rivera in a low voice,

"I approve of this couple."

Daemon's expression as he said, "I approve of this couple," looked extremely serious.

Rivera was dumbfounded by Daemon's expression.

No, it was absurd. Unlike her, who was worried, Daemon's expression somehow seemed pleased.

Daemon knew the Grand Duke better than anyone else.

He had watched over him since he was a child. As a son-in-law, the Grand Duke was quite a decent man.

Far from being compared to Eric, who was like a parasitic brother.

Rivera, who had been blankly staring at Daemon, began to flush brightly. She suppressed her anger and rebuked Daemon.

“Honey? You agree! Prince Artaeum and Rose are still in their prime. What if they get into an accident?”

Rivera didn’t want her daughter to be embroiled in this kind of gossip.

If Rose were pregnant, it was obvious what kind of rumors would spread.

People would use all kinds of derisive language to slander Rose.

Rivera didn’t want her daughter to be hurt anymore.

Rose had experienced all this when she married Eric.

Everyone, commoner and noble alike, had pointed fingers at her, calling her “a foolish woman blinded by love who abandoned her parents and married her enemy.”

Even if Rose had endured all this out of love, she was sure to be worn down by the criticism directed at her.

“Don’t be ridiculous! An accident!”

Even if he was the Grand Duke, he couldn't tolerate touching his unmarried daughter.

Daemon's voice was loud enough to reach Rose and the Grand Duke's ears. Everyone in the room looked at Daemon.

The Grand Duke, sensing the attention on him, coughed in vain and turned his head.

"Father, what's wrong?"

Rose's eyes widened, and he asked Rivera and Daemon.

Had the two, who were usually close, fought? The atmosphere somehow didn't look very good.

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it,"

Daemon said to Rose with a dispirited expression. Rivera, holding Daemon's hand, spoke to Rose.

"I'll go outside and talk for a moment."

"Yes, have a good day."

Before Rose could finish speaking, Rivera grabbed Daemon's hand and disappeared out the door.

Rivera closed the door and said firmly,

"I guess this won't work. Let's take Rose back."

“Ugh, calm down. I get that you’re worried about Rose, but that’s not it.”

“Our daughter barely managed to shake off Eric. I don’t want Rose to be the talk of the town anymore.”

Rivera couldn’t hide her complicated feelings, revealing her true feelings.

“She only just gotten divorced, what if she suddenly gets pregnant? Shouldn’t Rose enjoy her life?”

“Why are you worrying about something that won’t even happen?”

Rivera said, and Demon grabbed her shoulder as if to calm her down.

“It’s understandable to worry, but... Once Rose falls in love, she can’t see anything.”

Daemon agreed with Rivera, so he couldn’t say anything.

Fortunately, Rose is now a normal person, but back then, she was a foolish child blinded by love.

Dqemon let out a soft sigh. Then, turning to Rivera, he spoke quietly.

“I don’t know if His Highness has feelings for Rose or not, but isn’t it better? If His Highness fills Rose’s empty heart, even if someone like Eric comes back, Rose won’t be shaken.”

Daemon emphasized that love is forgotten with love, and that Rose shouldn’t be held back by a new thrill.

“So don’t worry too much. I don’t know what you think of His Highness, but he is completely different from that parasitic brother.”

Rivera eventually gave in to Daemon’s words.

Although she was worried about Rose, she hated the idea of falling for Eric again, just as Daemon had said.

***

The Grand Duke, Rose, and Count Serviat and his wife were gathered in the drawing room. Rivera’s expression was still tinged with worry as she fiddled with her empty teacup.

“I’m going now. It’s getting late.”

Daemon got up first. Rivera followed Daemon with an awkward smile.

“Please take good care of my daughter, Your Highness.”

Daemon grabbed the Grand Duke's hand. The Grand Duke stared blankly down at his own hand.

Daemon's grip on him was unnecessarily tight.

He tried to appear strong in front of Rivera, but he was equally worried about his daughter.

He was simply feigning indifference to reassure Rivera.

"Don't worry. The Grand Duke is a simpleton who's never met a woman."

Rose wasn't interested in the Grand Duke. The Grand Duke's feelings were still one-sided.

Daemon tried to reassure himself, telling himself that Rose and the Grand Duke wouldn't rush at each other like fire.

Rivera's pointless remark made Daemon's steps even heavier.

While Daemon and the Grand Duke of Artaeum shook hands, Rivera slowly walked toward Rose. She took Rose's hand affectionately.

"I won't be able to come often because of all the eyes on me."

Her voice was filled with regret as she stroked Rose's hand.

It's been three years since she last saw her daughter, and she has to be separated from her like this.

She didn't want to let her go, but it was all a decision shr made for Rose.

Rivera spoke softly, his voice filled with longing.

"Let's write often."

"Yes, I will."

"Come see me whenever you want."

Rose nodded and smiled at Rivera's words.

However, Rose's smile didn't last long because Rivera blurted out something unexpected for Rose.

"And you have to use birth control, honey."

"...Yes...eh?!"

Rose, who had been quietly nodding, froze in shock.
