RAMBYM - Chapter 26

26. The gentlest way possible

Robben burst into tears at Diarin's question.

“Not all priests are as capable as Diarin...!”

“Shh, don’t be loud.”

“Oh, I’m sorry.”

The suffering is pitiful, but it should not be as noisy.

At Diarin's warning, Robben quickly came to his senses and swallowed his tears.

Robben could see that Ceres was holding onto Diarin's waist with great difficulty.

“Halt is a member of the 8th Division, and he defeated the priest in charge.”

It was a completely predictable accident.

Diarin gently stroked Ceres's hair.

But our child is good.

Even though she didn't take special care of it, Ceres' hair was really smooth and soft.

The saying that beauty is something you are born with is very true in this case.

Diarin, who was about to fall to the touch of Ceres' hair, pondered Robben's words and then belatedly raised her head and said, "Huh?"

“So?”

“Since you are so admirably spreading God’s will, if you could take care of just one more person, no, just one more person...”

Diarin answered with a smile.

“God would be angry if he heard that.”

“That’s true.”

Robben admitted honestly.

But there was no other way.

First of all, there weren't many priests who could be entrusted with this task.

Even the most even-tempered people often fall behind in the beginning.

Now there was no priest to attach.

“If even the priest abandons him, that poor soul will be discarded.”

"... Yes?"

"Isn't that right? If we let him loose, he'd be a walking bomb. And if we lock him up, he's someone who sacrificed his life for his country. We can't do that. It might be easier to just kill him."

"Wait, wait. You're really going to kill him? Who decided that? No, I'm not curious."

It was such an absurd decision that she instinctively asked.

But the person who decided that would have to be a very high-ranking member of the royal family.

Perhaps His Majesty the Emperor.

“Are you really going to kill him?”

“That could happen.”

"Ha..."

Ceres has become quiet, so things are starting to look a bit better.

The world just didn't let others play around.

Diarin let out a deep sigh.

“But if the two of them are together, something really big could happen.”

“Not really. But they lived together in the military."

“That’s true, but...”

Thinking about it that way makes her shake again.

But the thought of repeating the actions she had taken with Ceres to a new person made her feel gloomy.

“You can just take care of it.”

“Really?”

“Yes, we will find a priest to take charge of him as soon as possible. In the meantime, please make sure you don’t go out and cause any trouble.”

“Hmm...”

That may be possible.

But there was no reason for her to do it.

Diarin delayed answering.

Then Robben made the first suggestion with shining eyes.

It's not like he's only tried business once or twice.

“Instead, you will be paid twice as much for managing two people.”

“Um... Do two people really need to put in twice as much work?”

If you have twins, it's three times harder.

It's disappointing that the calculation is only that much.

At the sight of Diarin's gaze, Robben quickly corrected his calculations.

Right now, the one who is definitely regretful is Robben.

"Of course, the management costs will double, and the additional allowances you 'ought' to receive will quadruple. Of course, this is not something that can be considered worthy of the generous heart of the Godhead..."

“God said not to turn away from those in need.”

"Then..."

“I can't take responsibility for him, but I can provide temporary care.”

“Thank you! Thank you!”

It seems clear that she is the one who is having the hardest time in this situation.

Money was a very important means of comforting and saving people.

Diarin smiled faintly.

***

“Don’t come near me.”

After Robben left, Ceres stopped Diarin from opening the door to see if he was still alive.

“It’s okay, they said he was anesthetized.”

Diarin patted Ceres on the back and calmed him down.

Even within the same 8th division, the border was quite narrow.

Before leaving, Robben explained a few things to Diarin and left.

The man's name is Halt.

He also gave her the same whistle he had given her to subdue Ceres.

Ceres's whistle was no longer something she even considered taking out. But she always carried it with her, just in case something happened that she couldn't control.

Two whistles rang from Diarin's wrists.

As Diarin turned back to open the door, Ceres blocked her way.

“He's awake.”

What a mess!

As if waiting, the door was smashed open.

“Damn it! You ain’t fooled me even once, you little shit!”

A man rushed through the shattered pieces of the door.

Ceres stepped forward, pushing Diarin back.

Two mad dogs got together.

Diarin chose to watch from a distance.

It's already too late to stop.

She wondered if it was necessary to blow the whistle to stop it.

She thought they would figure it out somehow since it wasn't something they would normally attack, and it was just the 8th unit members.

“Be quiet.”

“You're noisy too, you son of a bitch!”

“I am Ceres.”

“Damn it, you crazy bastard!”

Even though they were fighting at a speed that was too fast for the eyes to follow, the shouting did not stop.

Diarin was impressed.

Could that be a conversation between two people?

Although they were both members of the 8th Division, Halt was quite different from Ceres.

Ceres seemed like the typical 8th Division member one would expect. However, Halt was more gruff and talkative than one might expect.

While Ceres seemed like a truly unsocialized beast, Halt appeared quite human on the outside.

Of course, if he was capable of knocking down the priest and sending another house to temporary protection, then he was also a mad dog from the 8th Division.

“Ahhh! Yaaah, you little shit! It hurts!”

In the end, the winner was Ceres.

But Halt was no ordinary man, for his once handsome appearance became tattered.

Ceres beat and beat until Halt became quiet.

Surprisingly, the mad dog was hit again and again in a barking manner and then became quiet.

"Ha..."

Ceres, who had his mouth shut, raised his body, breathing heavily.

It was the heaviest breathing she's heard in a while.

It was exactly like when she first met him.

Diarin was very nervous.

"...Are you okay?"

"...Ha..."

“Are you hurt?”

"...No."

Still, she felt relieved after hearing an answer.

Only then did Diarin feel relieved and approach Ceres.

As she spread her arms, Ceres automatically knelt down and hugged Diarin's waist.

“Whew... Whew.”

Ceres's breath was hot on her lower abdomen.

Diarin asked, slowly running her hand through his hair.

“You said you didn’t fight when you lived together.”

“I endured it because it was an order.”

“...Ah, you managed to hold it in?”

“It was quieter than today.”

It is also difficult to hide one's presence.

Halt didn't even make that effort.

Ceres didn't do it either.

This was his territory. There was no reason to go through all that trouble.

And while he was with Diarin, he became dull in both hiding his presence and reading the surroundings.

He can always sharpen his nerves again, but now it's become a little more routine to just lay his nerves down.

“So, do you have to keep fighting like this from now on?”

“...”

Even Ceres couldn't predict it.

He wishes Halt been demoralized after being beaten up so much today, but the 8th Division doesn't lose heart when they're hit or injured. In fact, they ignite their fighting spirit.

Halt, in particular, was a man who held grudges for a long time.

The 8th Division does not all have the same fighting style.

Basically, it was an attack unit, but even within it, each individual's capabilities were slightly different, such as long-range, short-range, close combat, and multi-person combat.

Of course, they are trained to do everything well.

So that no empty space is created, no matter what the situation or how it is placed.

That is, so that if someone dies, they can be replaced immediately.

Still, the tendency that was revealed couldn't be helped.

In Ceres' case, such tendencies were relatively rare, which is why he was able to survive for so long.

Halt was strong in stealth and surprise attacks.

In extreme situations, he was able to wait longer than anyone else and silence anyone.

It was a useful trait for ambush and assassination.

She doesn't know how Halt will move.

“If this happens again, I will shoot you.”

Some soldiers had to die on the battlefield, but could not endure it mentally or physically.

In that case, he was killed.

Several people were killed by Ceres' hands as well.

There was no need for any major procedures to kill him.

The manager gives orders to the nearby unit members. That's it.

The same is true here.

If he threatens him and Diarin unnecessarily, Ceres can just kill him.

“Yes, yes. That’s a last resort.”

Diarin cleared her throat and tried to dissuade him.

It was a neat method, of course, but it was extreme.

There was no need to see blood since it wasn't a battlefield.

Plus, she gets her own extra allowance.

Ceres nodded obediently at Diarin's words.

“Then let’s try to solve it in the gentlest way possible.”

"I get it."

In the gentlest way possible.

Ceres tied Halt up tightly with the softest rope he could find in the storage room while cleaning.

When he came to his senses, he planned to try to resolve it by hitting it as gently as possible.
