As we entered the mansion, Prince Kite and John were sitting on opposite sofas, staring at each other, just as Alvin had said.
“Emily!”
John, who discovered Emily first, hugged her waist and hung on to her.
“John? What’s going on here when the semester isn’t even over yet?”
At Emily's question, John glanced at Kite.
“I heard the news. I heard you were dating that Prince!”
Come to think of it, she hadn't even considered that news of the scandal could have reached John's ears.
"Absolutely not! You'd better live with my uncle. Don't leave us behind and follow that Prince to another country."
Tears fell drop by drop from John's large eyes.
“Of course that won’t happen.”
Killian dismissed John's concerns and turned his gaze towards Prince Kite.
“I thought you were coming tomorrow, but what brings you here today?”
“How about we go up to the room and talk?”
Seeing that he came so suddenly without an appointment, it seemed like he had something important to say regarding his future plans.
“Then please go to the reception room first. I’ll follow you in shortly.”
Kite nodded and greeted Emily, who was standing next to him.
“How have you been, Madam?”
"Hello."
John, who was still holding Emily's hand tightly, was glaring at Kite with a serious expression.
Kite smiled awkwardly at that stinging gaze.
“I heard that this child is the nephew of the Marquis of Starr.”
“Yes, my name is John.”
Emily tapped John on the back, signaling him to hurry up and say hello.
"Hello."
Although he absolutely hated saying hello, because of Emily, John had no choice but to politely greet Kite again.
“Yes, John. It’s nice to be able to greet you properly like this.”
Emily asked in a worried tone at Kite's words.
“Has John done anything rude to the Prince?”
“No? His Highness and I haven’t really talked much.”
John quickly struck the player before Kite could answer.
Kite narrowed his eyes at John, but the boy blinked his large, innocent eyes as if he knew nothing.
They said he was Killian's nephew, and he was no ordinary person.
Before the Starr couple came to this house, John had been talking badly to him, saying that it was ridiculous to talk to a married woman.
"Anyway, it was nice meeting you. See you next time."
“Well, you’re such a busy person.”
John pretended not to notice the hand that Prince Kite extended to shake.
“Ah~ I won’t be upset if you go to the Robert Empire without saying anything.”
“Oh, really?”
A fight with a child? It was something he'd never done before, but Kite found himself involuntarily resenting it.
“Ah~ Don’t be upset if I disappear with your aunt without saying anything.”
Emily tried to dissuade him, but tears quickly filled John's eyes.
“John, the Prince was joking.”
“That was a really bad joke, too.”
Kite turned around, startled by Killian's ominous voice.
“Oh, the Marquis is still here, too.”
“Yes, I was going to change clothes, but I guess I’ll just have to go to the living room with you now.”
Killian thought he could never leave Kite and Emily alone.
So the two men went into the living room, and Emily took John, whose eyes were swollen, into the dining room.
“Is it dinner time yet?”
"Yes."
John answered, still grumbling.
“Madam, how should I prepare the meal?”
Alvin asked Emily.
“It looks like their conversation will be long, so let’s eat first and then bring some light snacks to the reception room.”
"All right."
Soon after, various foods began to be placed on the table.
“If I had known you were coming today, I would have prepared your favorite foods. What a shame.”
“No. I usually eat anything.”
John answered cheerfully and smiled brightly.
“Oh! But I heard from Roxy today that Emily is also participating in the hunting competition.”
“Yeah, I was just curious because I’ve never participated before.”
“It’s a good thing it happened.”
With a proud expression, John took a bottle of medicine out of his pocket and placed it on the table.
“What is this?”
"It's a smell that monsters hate. If you spray it on yourself when you're in danger, the monsters won't come near."
“That’s amazing. Thank you for taking care of this.”
Emily took care of the bottle.
About halfway through the meal, John asked cautiously.
“The scandal with Prince Kite isn’t true, is it?”
Even to the quick-witted John, it was difficult to see that the relationship between Kite and Emily just now was anything special.
“Yeah, I’m postponing it because of some circumstances.”
Emily raised a finger to her lips and winked.
“You’ll keep it a secret, right?”
"Of course!"
At the mention of acting, John's mood immediately improved.
The day of the hunting competition finally dawned.
Thanks to Alvin's efforts, Emily was outfitted with proper hunting clothes.
Vests and jackets embroidered with delicate gold thread, comfortable trousers, and boots made from the finest leather.
Here, men's hunting attire included gauntlets, greaves, and a cloak, but women did not need them to that extent.
Not only do you not go to areas that are dangerous enough to require it, but wearing it makes your body heavy and makes it difficult to move around.
“Did you practice a lot?”
Cezanne asked, helping Emily with her grooming.
“Yeah, he taught me in an easy-to-understand way.”
Over the past week, Killian has been diligently teaching Emily how to use a recurve bow.
Emily didn't know that he was fulfilling his selfish desires by holding her hand and touching her shoulder under the pretense of teaching her.
Anyway, thanks to Killian's help, Emily's skills have improved to the point where she has no problem hunting low-level monsters.
“And as Cyril said, it’s a really well-made bow, so it’ll be easy to use.”
Cezanne gave Emily a bow and a quiver of arrows.
She looked like a real hunter with her bow on her back and hunting clothes.
Emily walked down the stairs excitedly, eager to show this sight to Killian as well.
Killian was waiting in the lobby, reading the newspaper, for Emily to come out.
“You’re already out?”
When he heard Emily's voice, Killian folded his newspaper and stood up.
Seeing the tall, muscular Killian in his hunting attire, Emily realized once again what a handsome man he was.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes, I’m ready.”
He also hung the vial of demon-slaying potion that John had given him as a gift a week ago around his neck.
They got into the carriage and headed towards Mount Rosetta.
As they got closer to the mountain, Emily's heart pounded with excitement and nervousness.
“The knights are guarding the area, but please be careful not to leave the area if possible.”
Killian urged her once again.
Even though hunting was a pastime enjoyed by noblewomen younger than Emily, Killian seemed to be worried that something might go wrong with his wife.
“When you put the string on your finger...”
“Yes, you’re saying that I should control my strength well so that I don’t put any strain on my wrists and finger joints?”
Emily was a good student who learned everything as soon as she was taught.
Even knowing that, Killian repeated the caution.
“Look over there!”
Emily reached out the window to divert his attention. She felt sorry for Killian, but his nagging was starting to tire her.
“There are already a lot of people gathered.”
It's not that it wasn't; this hunting tournament had the largest number of nobles in attendance ever.
This is because there were rumors that Emily, Kite, and Killian, the three people who are currently the hottest scandal subjects in Vancent, would be participating in a hunting competition.
Emily, unaware that the reason so many people had gathered was because of them, got out of the carriage with a calm expression.
“Emily!”
Marlene, who had a lot to say to her, came running as soon as she saw the carriage bearing the seal of the Marquis of Starr.
“Oh, hello, Marquis.”
She completely forgot that Killian would be accompanying me there.
“It’s been a while, Young Lady Huppert.”
Killian greeted her calmly as always.
But soon she remembered that she was Emily's best friend and felt the need to be a little kinder.
“Looking at your outfit, it looks like Young Lady is also participating in the hunting competition.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
A Miguel dialect came out of Marlene's mouth, flustered by the attention she received from Killian for the first time.
Even Marlene had never been to the Miguel region.
Emily noticed that Marlene was quite nervous and grabbed her arm.
“Marlene, didn’t you have something to tell me?”
“Yeah! That’s right!”
“..I think I should talk to Marlene separately. You’ll be with Mr. Knox, right?”
"Yes."
“Then let’s meet later.”
“Then I guess I’ll just go and look at the map!”
Emily squeezed her eyes shut because Marlene was still speaking in dialect.
“Emily!”
John, who discovered Emily first, hugged her waist and hung on to her.
