Queen of Villains - Chapter 97

Meanwhile, Emily, who came out into the hallway, ran into the Emperor, who was on his way to the ballroom.

“Greetings to Your Majesty.”

The Emperor, who did not recognize Emily at first, only recognized her and greeted her when they got closer.

“It was Madam Starr.”

The Emperor looked around and opened his mouth.

“Are you alone?”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Where is your husband going?”

Emily swallowed her nausea at the sight of the Emperor asking her questions in a feigned affection and tried to answer politely.

“He's just saying hello to people. I’m just out to cool my head because of a migraine.”

“Oh, the party hasn’t even started yet, and it’s too bad you’re feeling unwell.”

The Emperor said he was sorry, but there was no such feeling in his heart.

A sneer appeared on Emily's lips as she lowered her head.

“Don’t worry, it’s just a mild migraine. It’ll get better soon after you get some fresh air.”

“Hmm.”

The Emperor thought about something for a moment and then opened his mouth again.

“Would you like to talk for a moment?”

Emily couldn't immediately respond to the Emperor's sudden offer of a private meeting.

“Are you feeling unwell and having a hard time talking?”

“...No, it’s okay.”

She had no idea what he would say, but perhaps a conversation with him would yield important clues.

“This isn’t a long conversation, so let’s go into the nearby room.”

And the Emperor nodded to the chief chamberlain who was standing next to him.

Soon after, he found an empty room and showed her to it.

Perhaps because it was a room for the Emperor to enter, the room was filled with a warm atmosphere in that short time, and the table was neatly organized.

Tea and refreshments were served on the neatly arranged table.

“I heard lavender tea is good for headaches?”

The Emperor offered Emily tea. Emily glanced at the Emperor with curious eyes.

“You have a look in your eyes that says, ‘How can he not know that?’”

“Honestly, it’s a bit surprising.”

“Haha, is that so?”

The Emperor laughed heartily.

“Come to think of it, I was surprised by Madam Starr, too.”

“Yes? What do you mean?”

“You’ve been married for quite some time, haven’t you?”

“Your Majesty, did you think I would get a divorce so quickly?”

Without realizing it, her answer came out in a slightly awkward tone.

"I'm sorry if I offended you. I was just curious that the young lady, once the crown jewel of the Sinope family, was happily married to a rough and dangerous mafia man."

Emily, who had nothing else to say, nodded and took a sip of tea. The tea was just the right temperature, not too hot.

“Come to think of it, how long has it been since your father passed away?”

“It’s been about three years.”

"It's already like that? You must miss your parents a lot."

“Yes, that’s right.”

Emily looked at the Emperor, who was saying such things to her in a playful manner, and wanted to ask him if he had the right to ask her such a thing.

But it wasn't time yet, so Emily picked up her teacup again to control her emotions. Meanwhile, the Emperor's cup was also emptied.

“Count Sinope was one of my most cherished vassals, you know that, right, Madam?”

“Yes, my father always told me not to forget the kindness I received from Your Majesty.”

“Was that so?”

The Emperor smiled happily.

“Come to think of it, there’s something I’ve always wanted to ask Count Sinope, but I never got around to asking him since he’s not of this world.”

Emily's eyes sparkled.

“What is that?”

The Emperor opened his mouth, looking intently into Emily's eyes as if trying to discern the truth.

“I left a child in the care of Count Sinope a long time ago.”

“To my father?”

Emily asked with wide eyes, pretending not to know.

“Judging by your reaction, it seems that Madam Starr was completely unaware of this.”

“Yes, I have never heard anything like that from my father.”

"So, there was never a boy of unknown origin living in the Sinope mansion? I'd like you to recall your memories in detail."

Emily pretended to recall the memory, furrowing her brow.

“I don’t remember any child like that. What could be the reason for this?”

The Emperor's expression was subtle at Emily's words.

“No. I was just wondering how the kid was doing.”

“Is it rude to ask what kind of child he is?”

“I made Madam anxious for no reason.”

“No... It’s okay.”

"He's just a child who lost his parents, and I entrusted him to your father because I felt sorry for his story. He wasn't that important, so don't worry about him."

Emily said, observing the Emperor's expression.

"My father is not the kind of person who would handle a task entrusted to him by Your Majesty so carelessly. Even if he hadn't told me, I'm sure he would have taken good care of the child."

“That might be the problem.”

The Emperor muttered so softly that even Emily, who was right in front of him, could barely hear.

"Yes?"

“Huh? No.”

The Emperor immediately changed his expression and smiled kindly.

“Anyway, thanks for taking the time to talk to me. Is your migraine feeling any better?”

Emily smiled coldly inside, thinking the migraine was just an excuse to begin with.

"Yes, Your Majesty, it seems lavender tea is effective for migraines, just as you said. My head feels clearer now."

"Well then, that's good. Now, hurry back to the banquet hall and enjoy the party."

"Thank you."

Emily greeted the Emperor and left the room.

Emily, unable to return to the banquet hall alone because of the Crown Prince, went back out into the garden.

She sat down on a bench where no one was coming and going and tried to organize the conversation she had with the Emperor.

As Killian had suspected, the Emperor had doubted her father's intention to keep him alive, and it was clear that he had killed her father out of resentment and anxiety.

Even at the time, it was difficult to understand why her father, who was known for being honest and not greedy, suddenly had to borrow money because his family was in dire straits, but after learning about the circumstances, it became understandable.

Also, it was very sudden that her parents passed away in a carriage accident after visiting the palace.

They must have pressured him with money to find out about Killian's survival and whereabouts. When that didn't work, they killed him.

Emily understood why her father had taught her how to shoot and how to defend herself.

The parents were worried about their daughter, who would be left alone if they died.

“Emily?”

At that moment, she heard someone calling from above and raised her head.

“I was hoping, and it’s Emily!”

Knox was leaning against the second-floor terrace, looking towards Emily.

“What are you doing there alone?”

“I was just getting some fresh air.”

Knox considered those words for a moment, then jumped down from the second-floor railing and landed on the ground.

The old Emily would have been startled, but now she wasn't particularly impressed when someone did a spinning kick.

'Is it because my husband leads a mafia organization?'

“What are your concerns?”

Knox seemed dull, yet he was surprisingly perceptive. Emily shook her head as if nothing had happened.

“But wasn’t he there?”

“I went to the banquet hall, but he wasn’t there, so I spent the whole time looking for Madam with Killian.”

“I didn’t know you’d be back so soon.”

"Hey, there are so many dangerous seeds here. There's no way Killian would leave his wife behind for so long."

"Ah..."

“Besides, I went there with peace of mind because Lady Huppert was with me, but who would have thought that crazy stalker would show up in the meantime?”

Knox is probably the only one in the royal family with the nerve to call the Crown Prince a crazy stalker.

“Anyway, Killian will still be looking for his wife...”

“Madam, there you are.”

Before Knox could finish speaking, Killian appeared from the terrace of another room.

Emily knew for sure by this.

The fact that the palace gardens are definitely not a good place to hide.

Killian also jumped down the terrace as nimbly as Knox.

“Why are you out in the cold?”

“It’s not that cold.”

Killian took off his coat for Emily, fearing she might catch a cold.

“Oh my god.”

Knox watched the scene with his arms crossed.

Killian even went so far as to check Emily's forehead to see if she had a fever.

“It's a shame.”

Knox's frown deepened as he watched Killian carefully take care of Emily.

It was a cause for celebration that their relationship had improved, but this was going too far, even for a bachelor.

Knox, unable to stand watching, lifted the coat that was draped over Emily's shoulders and forcibly gave it to Killian.

“It’s not that cold, so does it really have to be like this?”

Then he turned his head towards Emily and asked.

“Emily, please tell Killian clearly. It’s not that cold, is it?”

Emily smiled awkwardly and nodded.

Then Killian glanced at Knox indifferently as if to say, 'Are you still there?' and escorted Emily away.

“Come in.”

“Hey! I was the one who found your wife first, wasn’t I?”

Knox shouted behind Killian as he left for the banquet hall.

“Let me go too!”

But no one took care of Knox.
