Queen of Villains - Chapter 118

Killian encountered Count Enoch Blois in the palace corridors.

“Long time no see, Your Grace!”

Enoch Blois greeted him in an overly bright voice.

“Should I call you Marquis Starr now, or Duke Velvet?”

Enoch began to feel bad as Killian looked down at him indifferently without answering.

It was a gaze that made people uncomfortable, as if Killian was looking straight into their inner thoughts.

“Haha, how rude of you to stare at someone like that...”

“Should I call you the Count of Blois, or Matteo?”

Enoch's face hardened in embarrassment at Killian's sarcastic question.

"You even confuse your name. I guess you carry a heavy burden on your shoulders. Matteo? Whose name is that?"

Killian turned his arm, rubbing one shoulder.

“That’s right. The burden you bear is indeed heavy.”

Even though it wasn't a particularly threatening action, Enoch kept his mouth shut and couldn't say anything in response.

“Matteo.”

Killian called him Matteo, as if he was deliberately trying to provoke him.

“If you have nothing to say, I’ll be going now.”

Killian patted him on the shoulder as a greeting, then turned and disappeared down the hallway.

In the hallway where I was left alone, mad laughter soon rang out.

“Hahaha! Haha! Haha... ha...”

The laughter gradually died down and was soon replaced by a gasp that seemed to be consumed by anger.

"Just wait and see, Killian. Your days of being so arrogant won't be numbered."

Enoch turned around, spitting at the last spot Killian had passed.

Knox and Chambers also met with reporters with whom they had previous relationships.

“It was you, wasn’t it? The reporter who captured the incredible scene of Madam aiming her gun at the enemy.”

“Yes, that’s me.”

They were reporters who were present at the Raminis shooting at the restaurant.

Because of the relationship they formed at that time, Knox and Chambers were of great help to them whenever they were unable to write the articles they wanted due to external pressure.

In return, the reporters even wrote a promotional article for Toto's carrot cake.

“This time, we have a scoop from our side. Will you write about it?”

The reporters' eyes sparkled at the word scoop.

“What is it about?”

“It’s about corruption between the royal family and the temple.”

The expressions on the reporters' faces when they saw the materials Knox threw out were unusual.

“Is this really true?”

“So does this all look like something I made up?”

"But..."

Contrary to their initial enthusiasm, the reporters looked hesitant.

“If this story gets published, it will turn into a half-penny.”

“You’re afraid of that, so you can’t use it?”

“I didn’t say it couldn’t be done. Just give us some time.”

One of them asked cautiously.

“Are our lives guaranteed?”

The content of the articles they had to write was so shocking that he felt his life was in danger.

“Of course. You are like our brothers.”

The reporters breathed a sigh of relief at Knox's boast.

“Then we will go back and review this.”

“If you have any questions, please contact me anytime.”

Chambers handed them his business card.

And a few days later, reporters contacted Chambers.

“Chambers, where are you going?”

Chambers' expression didn't look good after receiving the call through the communication channel.

“We received word that thugs had broken into the newspaper office.”

"What?"

Hearing those words, Knox also jumped up from his seat.

“I guess they sensed we were going to publish an article.”

“Who are they? The Emperor? The Temple?”

“I don’t know about that. I need to go to the newspaper office quickly.”

"Yes."

Knox and Chambers each led their men to the newspaper office.

In front of the newspaper office, men they had never seen before were blocking the entrance and controlling entry.

“No one can enter here now.”

As Knox tried to go inside, the man blocked him with his arm.

“Where are you guys from?”

When the men remained silent, Chambers patted Knox on the back and said.

“It seems like they are from the temple.”

They did not wear the knightly attire to avoid attracting attention, but the swords they carried had the knightly mark engraved on them.

“I don’t know why the priests are at the newspaper office.”

Knox said, forcing down the arm blocking his way.

“Come out.”

“No.”

Knox waved at the members of the organization standing behind him.

Even Chambers's team members rushed in at once, pushed the knights aside, and broke into the newspaper office.

“You can’t use that sword on a commoner. A person called a Paladin.”

Chambers said, his hand touching the tip of the sword aimed at his own neck.

“Aren’t they those who move only for God’s will?”

“We clearly warned you not to go inside.”

“Why? Are you afraid that your corruption will be exposed to the world?”

At those words, the paladin frowned and asked back.

“What does that mean?”

“You didn’t even know. What they did in the temple.”

Knox, who had come closer, twisted the paladin's wrist.

“Ugh!”

“So if you don’t know, get out of the way.”

It wasn't difficult to deal with them, as there were only about ten of them, including the knights blocking the entrance and those guarding the inside.

Perhaps they didn't expect the mafia to come in such a large group.

As they entered the office, the reporters were gathered against one wall, and five or six priests were searching the entire office under the direction of the priest.

“Look, the information we passed on was true, so the temple came here themself.”

Knox looked at the sight, and a sneer bordering on contempt flowed from his lips.

“Who are you?”

“Can’t you see it? It’s the mafia.”

The priest was startled by the sudden incursion of the crowd, and then glared at the knights who followed him.

The look on his face was like, "What have you done if you can't stop this one thing?"

But the knights were wronged.

It's not enough to stop them with just eight people, and to do so, they have to cause bloodshed in the streets.

Those who serve God could not swing the holy sword against civilians without a justifiable reason.

The priest clicked his tongue, as if he didn't know that either.

He was so focused on blocking the articles that he missed it.

He should have figured out who sent that evidence first... If he had known the mafia was involved, he wouldn't have brought this many people.

"But you seem to have a spy on your side? How did you get the information from the temple?"

Knox glanced at the reporters with a menacing gaze.

“Where did you keep the evidence we sent you?”

“I am in charge.”

Director Joyce raised his arm.

Then, the director was highly unlikely to be a spy. If so, he would have sent the evidence himself, without needing to come to the temple.

"Well, let's figure that out one by one. Director, come here."

Knox pointed his gun at the priest and gestured for him to come over.

Since no one had ever aimed a gun so boldly at a priest, both the priest and the paladin trembled with shock on their faces.

Even though the imperial power had weakened, the temple's influence remained, and even the mafia was largely made up of devout Carpathian believers.

However, there was only one group that could treat the temple carelessly.

“You guys are definitely members of the Starr organization.”

The only mafia that did not believe in the Carpathian religion was the Starr organization.

“Yeah, kids with such outstanding personalities are all gathered in Starr.”

At those words, the subordinates behind him turned their gaze in embarrassment.

Even within the Starr organization, the saying that the Knox faction is the most popular was all because of their leader.

Anyway, after successfully bringing Director Joyce to the side, Chambers warned the rest of the reporters.

"When this is over, you'll die. You're a piece of shit for trying to mess up a deal with the mafia."

The reporters just waved their hands and gave him a look of injustice.

“How far has the article progressed?”

Knox asked Director Joyce.

“After confirmation, it was sent to the printer.”

"Aha."

Then, it was more likely leaked from the printing house rather than the reporters. If there had been a culprit among the reporters, they would have contacted the temple before handing it over to the printing house.

“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, reporters.”

Knox immediately nodded to Chambers.

Chambers, who had read the signal, immediately took some of his men and headed to the printing house.

After he left, Knox turned his gaze back to the priest.

“What should I call you? Are you the boss of these guys?”

“Boss! How dare you be so rude to the priest!”

One of the priests shouted at Knox.

“Just say you’re a priest. Ugh, you’re really irritating my ears.”

Knox said, picking his ears.

"Sir, look at those poor knights. They look confused, wondering what beliefs they're upholding here."

The priest looked at the knights.

They seemed to have been fixated on the word "corruption" a moment ago. The priest muttered quietly, trying to gauge what was happening here.

“They’re all stupid.”

"Are you stupid? It'll come out eventually. Let's not let each other down."

Knox raised both arms and shrugged.

“You guys are definitely making a big mistake.”

“I make mistakes every day, but I eat well and live well without any problems.”

The priest let out a long sigh and covered his eyes with his hand. It had been a long time since he'd seen someone so exhausted.

"Anyway, we're the kind of guys who can kill you right here without any guilt. Maybe it's better to just go back today?"

As if that were true, the members of the organization standing behind Knox all cocked their guns.

The priest gritted his teeth in resentment.

“I will see you again soon.”

“Well, I don’t like that, but I understand.”

The priest regretted his hasty action and withdrew with the priests and paladins.

As they left the newspaper office, Knox asked Director Joyce.

“But Director, where did you hide the evidence?”

"Because threats and theft of evidence are so common, I've hidden it in a secret safe that only I know. I'll return it to you."

"Yes."

Knox asked reporters while waiting for the director to go into the room to get the evidence.

“But didn’t I just look amazing? Did you take a picture?”

Knox's organization members quietly left the newspaper office.

Otherwise, they'll have to keep listening to that damn thing while Knox is lost in thought.
