Queen of Villains - Chapter 110

It didn't take long for the guard who had gone inside to come out again.

“Please come in.”

“Did the Chairman give you permission?”

“Yes, I heard that the Chairman is a fan of Mr. Goldwin.”

“You did a good job working hard.”

Roger said with a proud smile.

“That’s right. Come, Madam, please come along.”

The guard led them down a long hallway to a table inside a room with an ornate chandelier.

It was obvious that money had been poured into every single pillar, wallpaper, curtain, light, and piece of furniture.

The club president was sitting in a plush velvet chair, and when Roger and Emily entered, he stood up with a big smile.

“Welcome! It’s so nice to meet you.”

Roger and Emily sighed in relief at the unexpected hospitality from the chairman.

“If I had known Mr. Goldwyn was interested in our club, I would have invited you a long time ago.”

“Oh, so you’re making me an official member of the club?”

The chairman looked troubled at those words.

“You must win at least two games with us to be approved as a full member.”

“Twice is nothing.”

“That kind of confidence is good.”

The chairman laughed and then turned his gaze towards Emily.

“But who is this beautiful person next to me?”

“She is my friend.”

Emily used a pseudonym to greet the chairman.

“Yes, my name is Edith Wayne, Roger’s friend.”

"If you're friends with Mr. Goldwyn, are you an actress? A beautiful actress like you would be famous."

“I’m so bad at acting that I haven’t been able to stand on stage yet.”

"This."

The chairman clicked his tongue as if he felt sorry.

"Please let me know when you officially debut. I'll come and visit you with a bouquet of flowers."

“Thank you for your kind words. I need to get up and running quickly.”

“Yes, then let me introduce the members of today’s table.”

The chairman introduced them one by one, starting with the person standing on his right. Three members were sitting at the table, including the chairman.

They were all dressed up perfectly, with crocheted vests and jackets, so Emily could tell at a glance that they were people of fairly high social status.

“What game were you playing?”

“I was playing poker.”

“I was planning on playing bridge when the Viscount Coventry came.”

When one of the members expressed regret, the chairman said kindly.

“Two more people have arrived, so let’s play bridge. I’ll take a break.”

“Where are you going?”

“I just remembered something I need to take care of. I’ll be back in an hour.”

Emily was grateful that such a difficult being was the first to make room for her.

Emily felt like things were going well from the start.

“Yes, have a nice day.”

The chairman left his seat, and another member asked Emily cautiously.

“Miss Wayne, do you know the rules of the game of bridge?”

It seems that he thought that the rules of bridge were complicated and that it would be difficult for women to play.

“Yes, I like that game too.”

“Really? That’s good. Come over here and sit down.”

So the four players were decided.

“Shall we start by quenching our thirst with a cocktail before the game?”

The other three men agreed to Emily's proposal.

"Great."

“Then I will serve you myself.”

Emily went to the counter and got four cocktails directly from the bartender.

And while Roger was distracting them, she poured the 'confession potion' that John had made into two glasses.

“Yes, here’s a cocktail for you.”

Emily gave Kevin and Max a glass filled with the reagent.

“As expected, the taste of alcohol changes depending on who gives it to you.”

“That’s true. My stomach feels fuller than usual.”

Kevin and Max emptied their drinks in no time.

“Now, let’s start the game.”

First, Kevin spread the cards out on the table, and each player picked a card.

Kevin, who chose the highest card at the end, became the dealer, and Max, who chose the next highest card, sat in front of him, and the two of them formed a team. Emily and Roger became the same team.

The game began with Emily, sitting to Kevin's left, taking the lead hand.

“By the way, I heard earlier that the Viscount Coventry is a member of this club?”

As the game progressed, Emily pretended not to know and asked a question.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“That guy hasn’t been to the club for a few days, saying he’s sick.”

Roger also cautiously intervened.

“It’s surprising that a Viscount who was expelled from the Knights Templar is a member of such a high-class club.”

At those words, Max looked around to make sure the chairman was not around, then spoke in a quiet voice.

“Thanks to that friend, the Count of Blois, he can play at this club.”

Emily and Roger locked eyes.

As if the medicine was spreading, the topic she wanted came up faster than she thought.

“Is the Count of Blois also a member of this club?”

"He doesn't play card games. Since the Count loves them so much, he introduced him to this club instead."

“If the two are so close that the Count personally introduced him to this exclusive social club, then I guess the two are really close?”

Kevin shrugged at Emily's words.

“Can you call them close? He uses that as an excuse to treat him like a servant.”

Max chuckled next to him.

“Oh, so that’s the Count of Blois? When I saw him at official functions, he seemed so weak-willed that he couldn’t even kill a fly.”

“Have you ever seen the Count of Blois at an official function?”

Emily thought to herself, "Oh no," but she handled it naturally.

"Yes, they usually invite actors to liven things up in places like that. I've seen them there."

Fortunately, Emily's words seemed to have resonated with Kevin, who continued speaking without much hesitation.

“The Count of Blois is a natural actor.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

"Can I even say something like this?" Kevin hesitated for a moment, then opened his mouth, saying, "I don't know."

“Our chairman runs a loan-sharking business and has a gang he runs around with, and it’s said that the gang is in league with the Giuliano organization.”

“Even though he is a chairman with such a strong backing, he pretends to die when it comes to the Count of Blois.”

Max also explained, echoing Kevin's words.

“Hearing that story makes me even more curious about the identity of the Count of Blois.”

“We don’t know the details either. The chairman is very quiet.”

Kevin, who was looking at the cards, called out pass.

Since then, no further information has been obtained as the game progresses.

As they said, the chairman was very cautious about Enoch Blois, so others seemed to be unaware of the exact nature of their relationship.

“Did we win?”

The first game ended in three innings with Emily and Roger winning 2 and losing 1.

“You two are much better at games than I thought.”

Max stuck out his tongue.

“I got lucky this time.”

“You’re lucky, you had a good strategy.”

The chairman, who had been out, returned amidst a warm atmosphere of mutual praise.

“Are you guys having fun playing the game?”

He must have been tired, so he sat down in his own seat and ordered a cocktail.

“Yes, we just finished a round.”

“Oh, who won?”

“The new guys here beat us easily.”

Kevin said, pointing to Emily and Roger.

"That's amazing. To defeat these guys right away."

“I think they saw us as guests.”

“If you do that, we’ll be grateful.”

Kevin and Max answered with a loud laugh.

“By the way, time has already passed so quickly.”

Roger said, looking at his watch.

Now that they know the Chairman is connected to the Giuliano organization, they feel it would be dangerous to stay here any longer.

"I think we should go now. The next show is just around the corner."

“Oh, I also wanted to play a game with Mr. Goldwin, so I ran here quickly.”

The chairman spoke, gently turning the glass in his hand. An employee waiting at the counter quickly approached and filled his glass.

“I hope to see you again next time.”

"Yes, I understand. I'd love to hold on, but I have a performance coming up, so I can't help it. Then, please be careful on your way back."

“I won’t go far to see you off.”

Kevin and Max waved at them, too.

As they walked out into the lobby, the doorman who had first guided them was standing there holding the door.

“You’re leaving early.”

“Yes, we have another schedule.”

The gatekeeper nodded at Roger's words and asked Emily.

“Was the cocktail delicious?”

Emily gave a thumbs-up.

“It’s not like I’d necessarily come back and drink it again.”

“Oh, well then, I guess I won’t be able to see you again.”

“Yes, unfortunately.”

Emily smiled playfully and walked out the door with Roger.
