Without Fear - Chapter 115

Episode 115. The Wrath of the Supreme Being

“That bastard.”

Gerard frowned.

The justification for this war was that Lacrahan disobeyed his orders and disappeared with Bercheria.

But if he suddenly appeared in such a normal state, Gerard would have no reason to start a war.

“...”

Gerard couldn’t contain his anger and clenched his fists.

Lacrahan was perched on a condor, the wind in the background, looking down at him, as if he were the main character.

“Arrogant.”

Gerard briefly considered summoning the Supreme Being and destroying that rascal in one fell swoop, but he barely held himself together.

He couldn’t waste the Supreme Being's summons, which could only be used once, like this.

Gerard gritted his teeth and muttered so only Dylan could hear.

“Bring him down.”

Dylan, still holding onto Groovy, frowned and turned to Gerard.

Dylan, who never questioned an order, shouted at Gerard with an annoyed expression.

“Why are you looking at me like that! Shoot an arrow, throw a sword, or do whatever you have to, and bring that northern fox cub down!”

Dylan let out a low breath, so no one could hear, then threw Groovy he was holding in his hand, to the guard knight behind him.

Then, he drew the longsword from his waist and started running towards the condor.

Lacrahan widened his vision and scanned Gerard’s surroundings.

He had already grasped the situation from above.

“War?”

Gerard’s short-sighted judgment was so absurd that he could only laugh.

“It seems Lyone didn’t give us a heads up this time.”

The royal guard knights, who had enjoyed an era of prosperity after the war, and the knights of Lacrahan, who had trained themselves to survive in the harsh north even after the war, were fundamentally different.

Excluding Dylan, everything from his physique to his mastery of fighting techniques was incomparable.

Gerard knew this, but starting a war meant one of two things: going as far as he could, or turning back.

“Bring that northern fox cub down!”

Hearing Gerard’s shouts, he drove Muha even lower.

As they got closer, he saw his knights being held captive by the Imperial Guard. Perhaps completely unprepared for this situation, not a single one of them was properly armed or dressed.

“Tsk.”

Even that vulgarity was so Gerard-like it was almost shocking.

“Huh!”

Just then, Dylan appeared near Gerard, running towards him with his sword.

Lacrahan, unfazed, whispered the language of the gods to Muha.

Then Muha, who had been glaring at the Royal Guardsmen who had been tormenting him the entire time, flicked Dylan away with his claws as if he had been waiting for it.

“Kuaaaak!”

Dylan, who had always stood guard over Gerard like a wall of iron, flew into the air like a sheet of paper.

Several of the guardsmen who noticed him threw down their swords and fled in the opposite direction.

They were some of the men who had captured Muha a few days earlier. They were extremely fearful that Muha might recognize them and seek revenge.

“Your Highness! Everyone, get in formation!”

Wyatt, seizing the moment, pulled his sword from the waistband of the guards holding him and, in return, took them hostage, shouting.

The northern knights, who had been waiting for an opportunity, simultaneously attacked.

In an instant, the portal to the north was a mess.

“You idiots! What are you all doing!”

A bewildered Gerard gazed around the chaotic scene.

Standing over Muha, Lacrahan, surveying everything, belatedly spotted two men rushing towards the portal.

“We found them.”

Only then did he land Muha and descend to the ground on his beak.

As Lacrahan strode forward, Gerard feigned surprise and stepped back.

“You, you!”

He frantically searched for a knight to rescue him from Lacrahan, but none of the knights paid any attention to Gerard, as they were already engaged in close combat with the northern knights.

“This man!”

Gerard pulled out the jeweled longsword he had been carrying around for show.

The blade, which had never been used in battle, looked dull at first glance, and the jewels, which had been set in for beauty only, were uselessly adding to the weight.

Gerard's hands trembled under the weight of the sword.

Yet, he still managed to level the blade with Lacrahan.

Lacrahan stared at Gerard with eyes so dark they were impossible to fathom, and he drew close enough to almost touch it.

It looked not like a human, but like a fearsome beast, like a lion, approaching.

"Ugh!"

Finally, unable to bear the pressure, Gerard closed his eyes.

He tightly closed them, waiting for Lacrahan to attack.

But no matter how long he waited, nothing happened.

He slowly opened his eyes and saw Lacrahan passing by him with such ease.

"...What?"

He glanced at Gerard as if nothing mattered and continued walking forward.

Lacrahan's destination was the same direction that Empress Lawrence and Dipper, the guardian deity of the Kingdom of Contana, had been approaching.

"What combination is that?"

Ignoring Gerard's muttering, Lacrahan walked on, then quickly pulled the sword from the waistband of the royal guard knight who was entangled with his knights, and grabbed it.

The action was so natural that neither the knight who had his sword taken nor Lawrence and Dipper, who were walking in the opposite direction, noticed.

"I'm sorry to have gotten you involved in this unnecessary trouble, but..."

Lacrahan suddenly increased his speed and approached Dipper's nose.

"I know better than anyone how vile Dipper, the earth god who protects the kingdom of Contana, is."

He plunged the sword deep into Dipper's heart.

"...!"

Dipper, momentarily oblivious to what was happening before his eyes, widened his eyes and clutched the sword that had pierced his chest with both hands.

"Yes, you."

"The first gods all know how Dipper, the god, toyed with young girls when they first created humans."

Lawrence, who was watching from the side, couldn't help but be astonished.

How could Lacrahan, now human, kill the god Dipper? The absurdity unfolded before her eyes.

"So, as punishment, you became a being that couldn't survive without the Awakened, right?"

"Ugh."

Lacrahan pulled the sword from Dipper's hand and gave it to Lawrence. He then whispered in her ear.

"I didn't know I was the only one here who'd spent the night with a god, Lawrence."

Lacrahan's lips almost touched her ear, then pulled away, and Lawrence's face flushed bright red.

Lacrahan looked down at Lawrence and counted in his head.

He was waiting for the Supreme God.

Judging by his patience, he'd probably appear before he reached ten.

The human who had finally killed a god had appeared.

He couldn't just ignore this moment, now that humans had revealed the method of killing gods to everyone.

The one thing that terrified him the most.

“Lacrahan!”

The Supreme Being said.

Lacrahan turned around with a slight smile.

“I thought you’d be here before I could count to ten.”

Graham, the Supreme Being, was radiating an unfathomable aura towards him, his hair standing on end.

“You came in exactly three seconds.”

Lacrahan added, frowning at the immense aura.

“For a Supreme Being, you have a pitiful amount of patience.”

“Adkins! You!”

The Supreme Being began to approach Lacrahan, each step filled with fierce anger.

With every step he took, the knights beside him repeatedly fainted, blood spewing from their noses and mouths.

Step by step, the distance of their long-standing grudge was slowly closing in.

“How on earth do I get out of here?”

Bercheria forcefully pulled apart the grass that had grown as tall as her and walked through it.

Contrary to her expectations that this place would not be very large, the underground space seemed to continue endlessly.

She thought she would find a way out after just one loop, but she felt trapped in an endless maze.

Fortunately, the energy emanating from this place resembled Lacrahan.

Even though she was lost, she felt as if she was with him, and while it was disconcerting, it wasn't scary.

"Ha."

Bercheria raised her arm, engraved with a staff, and gathered strength in her hand.

Light burst out in all directions, and a larger staff than usual came into her hands.

"Ah."

Even without trying to probe, she could tell that the energy imbued within the staff had more than doubled since it had just been drawn.

And that power was flowing into Bercheria.

“Is it because of the energy I sense here?”

Lacrahan had said he had created this place by imitating the power of the Supreme Being.

Does that mean that all living things here are imbued with the power of the Supreme Being?

While Bercheria was lost in thought, the trees, laden with abundant fruit, tilted their branches toward her.

Before she knew it, the branches extending from all directions had covered the area above her head in a pitch-black blanket.

“Ah.”

Bercheria suddenly raised her head and looked around in surprise.

It wasn’t just above her.

Branches tangled together on both sides and even beneath her feet, entangling her body.

“Ugh!”

Bercheria tried to evade, but the branches, as if they had been waiting, began to ensnare her.

“No, don’t.”

In the blink of an eye, Bercheria’s body disappeared into the trees, as if swallowed, leaving no trace.
