TSFHA - Chapter 49

Ryan was shocked.

Although young, he was the heir of a noble family and was not lacking in learning.

So, it means that he understood the meaning of 'seeing a child from a woman', the obligation of chastity between a married couple, and the fact that the father had committed adultery.

“Ryan! Tell me what you’re feeling right now!”

Gabriel's eyes lit up again as he looked at Ryan's pale expression.

“Why on earth is that...”

“Quick! You promised to tell me if I told you!”

At the time, he was so shocked that he didn't even realize that Gabriel was strange.

Ryan just told him how he felt when he heard the truth as he asked.

"Oh, Father... I can't understand. I understand why Mother is sick... and if that's the case, I hate Father so much. It makes me so, so angry..."

“Are you angry? In what way?”

“Because my father didn’t keep his marital fidelity... and because of that, my mother was sick...”

“I see. So is it because of your father or your mother?”

"...”

Are you really asking because you don't know?

Why do we have to have this conversation?

He didn't know it then.

That fall.

A day when rain was falling lightly.

His mother passed away.

Because she had been ill in bed for a long time, they expected her death and were all mentally preparing ourselves.

Maybe that's why.

The brothers did not cry.

Only Ryan, the youngest, cried out loud as if he had lost the world.

But it's not like the brothers who didn't cry didn't mourn their mother's death.

David, Elliot, and Diana, the first, all mourned their mother's death and were in a bad mood for several days.

“Ryan, why are you crying?”

“Ugh. Ugh...”

And then Ryan knew.

Gabriel, the only brother who felt no sense of loss, no pain, no sadness at his mother's death...

“People cry when they’re sad. Are you sad now?”

...that he is a human being who cannot feel emotions.

"What exactly makes you sad? Did your mother die? Everyone dies, even if at different times. Or is it that you no longer have a mother?"

“Please get out...”

A house without a mother.

Little Ryan was lonely.

His brothers and sister were busy, and his father would occasionally come to see Ryan, getting angry and asking when his powers would manifest.

His affectionate uncle often visited him, but it wasn't enough to alleviate his loneliness. They didn't even live together...

“Harpy, do you miss your mom too?”

What comforted the boy was a canary.

A yellow-furred Harpy.

The bird his mother bought him.

It chirped cleverly as if it understood what Ryan was saying, and even when it was released from its cage, it didn't go far and just stayed by its owner's side.

“...”

As always, he was locked in his room all day playing with Harpy.

He felt an unpleasant gaze and turned around to see Gabriel standing at the door.

When did you come?

Ryan always wanted to see his heartless father and busy brothers as family, but Gabriel wasn't the only one.

Because he felt like he would go crazy if he even talked to him.

“What? Just go!”

“...”

Gabriel returned silently with a creepy smirk.

One day, Harpy disappeared.

The cage door was open, and Ryan couldn't see anything in the room. He panicked and went outside.

What was discovered in the front yard of the private residence was the back of Gabriel squatting.

Ryan had a bad feeling about this. He really did.

“Ugg!”

“Ryan, are you here?”

Unfortunately, his premonition came true.

Gabriel is holding a small knife and a stone.

And a little bird covered in blood.

Ryan, holding the already frozen Harpy in his hand, cried and ran off somewhere like a madman.

“Hey, sister! Sister!”

He was out of his mind, but he felt a little better when he saw his sister's face.

Unlike his other siblings, who resembled both their father and mother, the third child, Diana, had a face that resembled only her mother.

Ebony hair. Red eyes.

But as Ryan knew, his older sister wasn't his mother. Not the loving mother who would have comforted and hugged Ryan when he ran over in surprise... No...

“Ha, Harpy, please, save it...”

“Eek!”

Diana slapped Ryan's hand away sharply. The little bird's cold body fell to the floor.

“What the hell are you talking about! It's already dead, how can you save it!”

“Ha, Harpy, Sister... Harpy...”

“Get out, you idiot!”

“Ryan, Ryan!”

Gabriel, who followed behind, smiled and asked Ryan, who was kneeling in shock before the dead Harpy.

“Tell me how you feel right now!”

“...”

“Get that disgusting thing out of my room right now!”

“...”

Ah.

F*ck...

Really...

“Ryan! Quickly! Tell me, yes?”

“Get out of here and hurry up!”

“...”

This is a corner of the house where he feels like he's going crazy...

***

“If he had grown up like that, Gabriel would have turned into a crazy guy who only looked like an angel on the outside.”

...you guessed it right.

'Yeah, that's how he grew up.'

After hearing Ryan's childhood story, I wiped away the goosebumps that had formed on my arm.

“You, I think you have a pretty weak face.”

Ryan nodded at Merchen, who was sleeping across from him.

“If you go to Romaier and see Gabriel’s face, you’ll be in big trouble, really.”

“No, that’s not true.”

“Really? You don’t fall for his handsome face?”

“...”

For a moment, I was speechless. The reason I fell in love with Nike was because of his face...

“No. Everyone likes handsome and pretty people, but that’s only if they’re normal, good-looking guys.”

“Are you sure?”

"Yes."

“Then, even if your fourth brother smiles and says he’ll buy you something delicious, you shouldn’t follow him.”

“Am I stupid?”

I know Gabriel better than anyone, so that won't happen.

And I learned something new from listening to Ryan's story.

'I wish I had been openly crazy when I was younger.'

I am fourteen years older than Gabriel.

So the first time I met Gabriel was when he was an adult.

He was already at that time... a perfect being who thoroughly hid the fact that he was a completely twisted human being, and did not hesitate to commit acts that were so horrible that they could not even be compared to killing a bird...

***

Southern and central parts of the continent, Romania.

The territory ruled by Gabriel Wassenberg, Prince of Wassenberg, Margrave of Romaier, and leader of the Salvation Church.

It is the home of the faithful who praise Gabriel, the god-like lord who raises the sick.

"It is not yet time for you to return to God's embrace. Conquer your evil illness and rise again. I will pray for you."

Romaier Great Temple.

At the end of the corridor, filled to the brim with people who came to see the miracles performed by the messenger of God, on top of the wide altar.

A dying old man is held in the arms of Gabriel, a man with dazzling blond hair and neatly dressed in white priestly attire.

He was clearly ill, but the cause was unknown. The unknown disease had consumed his aged body, staining it gray in spots.

Yet,

The Fountain of Purification

A holy light flowed from Gabriel, who was embracing the old man affectionately.

Everyone held their breath...

They soon saw a miracle.

“Ah, Gabriel...”

The old man's body, once stained ashen, regained its color. The sick man, who had struggled to breathe, rose to his feet in awe.

“Ugh...!”

But Gabriel, who magically raised the sick man, vomited blood.

“Oh, Gabriel!”

But, as always, the sacrificial angel who performed miracles by cutting his own flesh smiled happily and said:

"Don't worry. I'm fine. Saving suffering humans is my mission and my joy."

“Lord, our salvation!”

“Gabriel! Gabriel!”

Shouts of praise rang out.

The believers of the spirit world and the sick from all over the continent vied to donate their wealth.

Those in desperate need had no means of salvation, and the Romaier's lifeline was never dry as they offered their offerings to God.

***

“Tch.”

The beast's blood lingered in his mouth, making him sick. He spat repeatedly and walked across the quiet corridor.

The expression on his beautiful face is surprisingly monotonous.

Gabriel was very sensitive on the days when he finished his miracle show by gathering fools together.
