TSFHA - Chapter 42

Merchen continued walking.

What good would it do if I starved to death before reaching Farnese?

He endured the shame and tried begging for the first time.

“I, I’ve been hungry for a long time, so please bring me something to eat. If you help me, I will never forget and will repay you...”

But instead of getting anything to eat, he was spat at and kicked out.

I'm angry.

When he started swearing at them, saying, "Don't you know who I am?", the villagers all came out and cursed at Merchen. When he refused to back down and fought back, several of them raised their fists.

He got beaten up badly. He got hit in the stomach and vomited blood.

It hurt so much.

Enough to make him lose his mind...

"Gasp!"

Merchen opened his eyes.

In an unfamiliar place, his beaten body remained unscathed.

And then he had another dream where he became a monster.

He became a monster and killed all the villagers who had been assaulting him.

"Ah."

Merchen was terrified by the sudden assumption. He considered returning to the village, but couldn't.

Because he's scared.

Just in case, he'll confirm that it wasn't a dream.

He kept walking.

Fortunately, there were also kind people.

He filled his hungry stomach with food, and those who were going the same way offered to pay for his fare, so he rode in a carriage for the first time in a long time.

“Even though he’s crazy, has it been a while since I’ve seen such a handsome guy?”

“Elliot is very sensitive these days because there aren’t any decent auction items, so I’m sure he’ll be delighted to see this special item.”

Merchen learned that day: to be wary of unwarranted favors.

“Where are you taking me! Stop! Stop!”

“It’s noisy. Cut out his tongue. It’s not necessary.”

“Hey, hey! Don’t do that!”

Did a knife go into my mouth?

He didn't remember.

Again, in a dream...

But this time something was different.

Until now, he could only watch the massacre he was committing in his dreams as if it were someone else's business.

'No. Don't kill me.'

The arm of a monster... no, his own arm that had become a monster... stretched out towards a small child.

Merchen grabbed his right arm with his left hand. Fortunately, the frightened child ran away.

- Hmm? ...Hahaha! You're amazing. How did you reveal yourself?

Then, surprisingly, the monster spoke.

No, Marchen himself said it.

No, said the monster.

No...

Who are you? What are you?

- Don't you remember me?

The monster chuckled and ran to the stream to look at itself.

A horned monster with purple skin.

Merchen knew the monster.

Farnese, the peaceful kingdom, his homeland... the monster that ruined everything...

***

It's been months since he's been wandering around like that.

A year has passed, but Merchen has still not arrived in Farnese.

This is the central part of the continent, Guintz.

He opened his eyes and felt ashamed of himself for not having accomplished anything even after so much time had passed... but there was a small change.

Now, when Merchen is hungry, he doesn't hesitate to beg. He'll do anything to survive, so he's long since broken the royal family's pride. He's learned to be wary of those who show him excessive favor.

“Look here, young woman. If you don’t mind, could you give me a piece of bread?”

Of course, begging should be done with dignity.

"Hohoho! The crazy Prince is back again. I don't understand why such a fine-looking gentleman wanders around like this instead of doing his job."

Even though he was treated like a madman, Merchen went around asking questions in every village he visited.

He said that he was the last heir to the Kingdom of Farnese, and that 600 years had passed in the blink of an eye. He asked if they knew why.

Please, I hope there is at least one person out there who knows about this unbelievable situation.

“Just wait~.”

The woman who had been asked to eat went into the house.

While begging, he noticed that most women were friendly towards Merchen. He thinks it was because of his looks.

So, Merchen went around washing his face. It was shameful to sell his face and beg, but what could he do?

“That bastard! As expected, he still hasn’t left and is still here like this!”

Of course... men are the opposite.

He never asked them for bread, but they came and started a fight for no reason and didn't hesitate to use their fists.

Merchen became nervous as five village men came rushing in.

They must have come here on purpose, especially after discovering the stones in their hands.

“Go, don’t come any closer.”

Merchen took a step back and tried to calm down.

Getting hit by a rock isn't scary. It's the monsters that will burst out of his body when he's hurt and bleeding that are scary.

I still don't know what the monster inside me is...

After a few experiences, he learned that 'you shouldn't get hurt too badly'.

“Let’s not do this... Let’s talk...”

“Let’s finish this today. Please get out of our town!”

"I can't just let him go! I told you he seduced my wife yesterday, too."

“Oh, no! I never... ever did that! I never did anything like that! That’s not it...”

“No, no~! Stop!!”

It was then that a pink-haired girl came running at full speed from afar.

The girl pushed the men away and stood in front of Merchen, as if blocking his path. Then, gasping for breath, she shouted.

“If you’re going to throw stones, throw them at me!”

The girl spoke with some confidence, then flinched and immediately pointed behind the men.

“Of course, if you really throw it, my dad, who followed you there, won’t let you go.”

The men turned around. A few steps behind them stood the man they called the girl's father.

“Huh? Oh, um. Right. Uh...”

A man with golden hair.

The village men were startled and looked at the situation without knowing what was happening.

The girl's father, somehow, seemed unusually large...

"Hey, don't throw stones at my daughter. If you do, I'll show you how hot my fists are."

The girl's father, though somewhat bewildered, continued to frighten the village men.

“What are you doing all of a sudden...!”

“Oh, shit! My fist is about to go wild~?”

“...”

“...”

The girl's father, with an indifferent expression as if he didn't care about the difference in the number of people, slowly approached her, his shoulders relaxed.

Gulp.

“They say my fist counts to three. Until everyone disperses, three...”

There was no need to go all the way to the second one.

The village men, having lost their fighting spirit, threw down the stones they were holding and scattered in an instant, like loaches huddled together and then fleeing.

'What?'

Merchen was embarrassed.

A woman who suddenly appeared and helped him...

At that moment, the girl looked back at Merchen and whispered quietly.

“Prince Farnese. Is that right?”

“...!”

At that moment, Merchen's eyes widened.

He was so shocked that he couldn't even breathe.

There is?

Does anyone know me?

“Do you know me? Who are you...?”

“Shh, shh. Are you hungry?”

The girl smiled brightly and put the bread she was holding into Merchen's hand.

“Let’s eat first and then talk!”
