Emily reminisced with Grandma Juliet, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
“You seem thinner than when you were here last time... You don’t seem to be doing very well, do you?”
“How did you know?”
Emily laughed at Grandma Juliet's sharp observation and took it as a joke.
“How have you been, Grandma?”
“I’m always the same.”
Grandma told her all sorts of things that had happened, including Toto's shop.
“Baron Roman’s son, Louis, is getting engaged this year.”
“Really? That’s great.”
“Yes, I heard he’s marrying the youngest daughter of a Count’s family, but I don’t remember which family.”
Even Louis, who had begun his career as a painter in earnest, was becoming widely known by winning awards in competitions hosted by the royal family.
“It’ll be hard to even look at Louis’ face now.”
“I guess so?”
Both Emily and Juliet smiled happily.
“Oh, right.”
Juliet suddenly clapped her hands as if something had occurred to her.
“Come to think of it, does your husband make good carrot soup?”
"Yes?"
Why carrot soup all of a sudden?
“I did eat, but...”
Come to think of it, carrot soup was served for breakfast at least twice a week.
He even deliberately changed the recipe to make it sweeter because she didn't eat well and left some. Shs guesses she ate everything after that, right?
At Emily's words, Juliet snorted and muttered, "Huh?"
“He acted like he wouldn’t do it, but it seems he's been keeping his word.”
Emily asked, her big eyes widening even further.
“Was that something my grandmother told him to do?”
“Yeah, I told him to definitely feed it to your health.”
Emily couldn't figure out why Grandma Juliet was so obsessed with carrot soup.
And she couldn't believe that Killian had made carrot soup for her on purpose because of what her grandmother had said.
He's not really suited for the kitchen, so she wonders if he really made it himself.
'Hey, that can't be it.'
Juliet, seeing Emily's expression become complicated, finally began to speak in earnest about the purpose of her coming there.
“Emily, is there any other reason why your husband didn’t come to the estate with you?”
Emily looked at Grandma Juliet as if asking how she knew.
“Did you say you were going to break up?”
As expected, Juliet had a good intuition. Emily nodded slowly at her grandmother's question.
“Hmm.”
Emily had no idea what her grandmother was thinking.
“It’s better this way.”
When her grandmother spoke after a while, Emily pouted as if to ask what she meant.
“Are you saying it was a good thing that I got divorced?”
“I don’t think you and that guy are compatible at all.”
Then she said the same thing to Emily as she had said to Killian.
“If you want to live a long and healthy life, you should forget him and find another man quickly.”
“What do you mean, we don’t match?”
“Your husband is now unable to control your magical powers at all.”
The more she listened to Juliet's grandmother, the more confused she became. Was this part of the original?
"Magic power is something each individual must control. And more than anything, your magic isn't strong enough to warrant control."
Emily's magical power had recently been measured at a B-rank, which was higher than before, but not exceptionally high.
As Grandma Juliet was about to say something more, the butler's voice was heard shouting from outside.
Emily, curious about the sudden commotion, looked out the window.
Knox and Ivan were being scolded harshly by the butler. Their untimely firewood fight had resulted in the trees in the garden being cut down in an unsightly manner.
The maids who had been watching their naked bodies had long since scattered and fled as soon as the butler appeared.
"This..."
Emily watched the commotion for a moment, then shook her head and returned to the sofa where Grandma Juliet was sitting.
“I’m sorry, but I have to go now.”
As if something had happened, the grandmother suddenly got up from her seat and packed her bag.
“Are you leaving already? You haven’t told me everything about my magic yet...”
"There's no need to know everything you want to know. Your father, the Count, didn't want that either."
She looked regretful, as if she'd told Emily too much. With her grandmother like this, she couldn't hold back and demand more explanation.
Emily had no choice but to see her off, but she was determined to talk to Juliet about this matter again later.
As soon as she left, Ivan and Knox were entering the mansion.
They looked exhausted from the unexpected wood-chopping contest and the butler's lengthy speech.
“Oh my goodness, I’ve never heard a bigger nag than Alvin.”
Knox's ears still felt stuffy.
Emily smiled and apologized on his behalf.
“The butler thinks the garden is quite precious.”
Ivan collapsed face down on the sofa in the lobby.
“Oh, are you okay?”
"I feel childish when I'm with Nox. I'll never have that foolish fight again."
“Hey, who said that?”
Emily finally burst out laughing at the sight of Knox and Ivan arguing again.
Ivan and Knox stopped fighting at the sound of Emily's laughter and looked at her. It had been a long time since they'd seen Emily so happy.
They felt as if something had been lifted from her.
“I’m sorry, did I laugh too much?”
Feeling their gazes, Emily felt embarrassed and wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
“No, it’s okay.”
She just hoped things would get better soon so she could keep her smile.
When the slave market was hit, but there was no response from the Giuliano organization, the three organizations reunited.
“Seeing how quiet they are, I guess they must be quite flustered.”
Endymion opened his mouth.
“Really? I made a big fuss about it, but they’re still quiet.”
Messina leaned back in her chair with her arms crossed.
She even sent them a scary warning message saying, "If you use me one more time, I won't let you off easy," to deliberately turn the target towards her.
But, let alone picking a fight, there wasn't even a single word of reply.
"Or should we just move on to the next operation? I heard they're having a drug party at their club in District 7 in a few days."
This was fairly accurate information, as the drug was supplied by the Gotio family.
“District 7 is the center of the city, so they probably care a lot about it. They’ll be really upset if they find out we messed up again.”
Messina said with a chuckle, but Killian's expression remained serious.
"Why do you look so unhappy? Are you not ready for divorce?"
Killian shook his head at Messina's question.
He had already settled the estate to be transferred to Emily and sent the divorce papers to the Sinope estate. Once Emily signed and sent them, they planned to submit them to the royal family immediately.
“But why do you have such a shit-eating face?”
Pete Donahue, the consigliere of the Starr organization, spoke on Killian's behalf.
“After the slave market incident, we've been monitoring the movements of the Giuliano Organization, and it seems they're targeting our family.”
"They're not complete idiots, I guess. They've already noticed we're joining hands."
This time, Michael, the underboss of the Gotio family, asked Pete.
“What are the movements of the Giuliano organization?”
“I saw a group of people I’d never seen before walking around District 3, and upon checking, I realized they were low-level members of Giuliano’s organization.”
“Didn’t you do anything particularly violent?”
Pete nodded.
“There was no such thing, but the residents were uncomfortable, so we kicked them out.”
“It definitely feels cheap.”
“Ugh, I really hate those snake-like guys. What on earth are they up to?”
As Messina trembled, Endymion and Michael looked at her with serious expressions.
“We are a family of vipers, and we feel insulted.”
“Oops.”
Messina laughed awkwardly and avoided eye contact.
“Anyway, before we attack District 7, I think we need to find out what the Giuliano Organization is up to.”
As soon as Pete finished speaking, a loud knock on the door was heard from outside.
“Hey, who is it!”
As Messina, startled, let out a squeak of annoyance, her consigliere, Solio, went out to see.
When he opened the door, a silver-haired man was standing there, panting.
“Payne?”
Payne had even lost his usual monocle. Hearing Payne's arrival, Pete jumped to his feet and hurried towards him.
“What’s going on?”
“Nigel of the Giuliano organization led his capos and raided the mental hospital.”
"What?"
Pete's face crumpled.
“Why are they going in there!”
“And then they took Raminis out.”
The incompetent Raminis was practically abandoned even in their world. Why would they take Raminis away at this point? He couldn't understand it at all.
"Shit."
Killian, who had finished thinking, suddenly swore and got up from his seat in a hurry.
“What’s wrong, Killian?”
Messina and Endymion also got up from their seats with confused faces and followed him.
Killian said as he quickly grabbed his coat and hat and headed out the door.
“Emily is in danger.”
“You seem thinner than when you were here last time... You don’t seem to be doing very well, do you?”
