TVOTP - Chapter 157

The main gate of the Verbent Palace.

Because of the defensive magic, Sulfur and Fire, which the warlocks had thoroughly prepared, it was impossible to even enter the palace.

All the magicians in the Magic Tower had to concentrate to dispel the high-level black magic, so they couldn't even make a magical attack.

Fighting the formidable monsters and defending against the attacks of the warlocks fell solely to the knights and soldiers, but the situation unexpectedly turned out in favor of the Emergency Allied Forces.

Kiiiiiik!

Kwaaaaak!

The monsters' roars echoed.

The expressions of the high-ranking warlocks commanding the battle from the spire behind the main gate of the palace grew increasingly hard.

Duke Cardin, a high-ranking warlock, was furious when he discovered the reason why the monsters were falling with severe injuries.

“What the hell are those knights throwing at the monsters all this time?!”

“It looks like a bomb artifact!”

"A bomb? In such a small form? Who could have invented such an outrageous and terrifying weapon?"

“Magic bomb?”

Lady Alentia, standing beside him, frowned slightly as she remembered the familiar rumor about the 'someone' involved in the magic bomb.

'No way. Can a princess play such an important role?'

Her guess was correct.

It was Yvonne who revealed the recipe for her magic bomb artifact and immediately mass-produced it, making it a powerful weapon for the Allied Forces to fight against the monsters.

A powerful explosion.

And troops who fight in an organized, quick, and effective manner.

Duke Cardin gritted his teeth, unable to hide his bitter feelings any longer, as he watched the monsters bursting and collapsing helplessly.

"It's surprising. Not only is that weapon good, but the suddenly assembled allied forces are fighting so well."

"It seems Prince Felix has become the real focal point... Moreover, Duke Iels, the Guardian of the North, and Duke Argenthoz, the Lord of the Tower, are personally leading the troops. If things continue this way, isn't it dangerous?"

The oldest warlock, Marquis Rontier, also watched the battle unfold with anxiety.

Duke Cardin eventually lost his temper with Lady Alentia.

“If only Giselle had been here, they would have been dead! Is Giselle still far away?”

"Giselle said we must become the 'gateway to liberation' and fully welcome 'Him.' Please wait a little longer. There's not much left."

Lady Alentia calmly tried to calm Duke Cardin, but Marquis Rontier remained uneasy.

He sighed heavily.

“If only Cordelia had been here.”

Cordelia Mare was a high-ranking warlock who commanded four familiars.

But she was one of the 'keys' to the gates of liberation, and so she was now bound to the altar, awaiting a noble death for the incarnation of the great demon Toylat Legion Commander.

Lady Alentia gently reassured Marquis Rontier with a soft wink of her eye.

"It's alright, Marquis. We're more than enough. We've brought enough monsters, and if we fall behind, we'll charge up our black magic and attack. We'll just have to kill the humans held captive in the palace."

“...That’s right, I said there are countermeasures.”

When Duke Cardin also touched his shoulder and told him to relax, Marquis Rontier reluctantly nodded.

At that moment, Lady Alentia smacked her lips as if she was regretting it.

"Oh, I should've kidnapped more people beforehand. Who would've thought that Prince Felix, who was known for his clumsiness, would be so capable of leading the nobles and evacuating the capital's citizens so quickly?"

"Well, do you really need that much? The people we have now are more than enough..."

Duke Cardin's words could not be continued.

Swish.

Suddenly, a blue aura shot up into the sky with a sharp gust of wind and swept sharply into the air.

Kieeeeeeeek―!

Keeeeek!

The faces of the high-ranking warlocks who were talking together instantly turned ashen.

“Gargoyle!”

The gargoyles, painstakingly summoned over several days by moving magic circles to protect the Verbent Palace, screamed and fell quickly.

Dozens of large gargoyles crashed down into the palace, the impact causing the palace buildings to shatter.

“Ugh!”

“Oh my! What is this!”

“Save the people!”

The warlocks were struck by the debris of the building flying here and there, and they panicked as they tried to avoid it.

The high-ranking warlocks who had cast defensive spells approached the corpse of a fallen gargoyle near the spire to assess the situation.

The gargoyle's corpse bore clear, mangled stab wounds.

There is only one person who can attack a flying gargoyle with a sword: a sword master who uses aura.

If so, it must be the work of Duke Rudnine Iels.

But how could dozens of gargoyles die at once?! They were so dumbfounded that they couldn't say anything else, just staring blankly at each other.

“We’re in trouble!”

Then an urgent voice was heard from below the spire.

"What!"

“The defenses on the left side of the palace are about to be breached!”

"What? Already? The monsters?"

Lady Alentia shouted sharply.

“Most of them are dead. The black mages are defending with only offensive magic.”

It was too fast.

How could this happen?

It took some more time for the gates of liberation to open completely.

Why did it break through so quickly? Did you take them too lightly?

Lady Alentia clicked her tongue at the sight of Marquis Rontier, who had been the most anxious since earlier, finally on the verge of fainting.

She quickly exchanged a glance with Duke Cardin.

"I can't afford to be complacent, Your Excellency. Of course, I won't be able to quickly break through the defensive magic in the palace. I'll go to the dungeon and replenish my black magic."

"Understood. I'll personally take care of it in the meantime. Oh, and before that, have His Majesty the Emperor come over here. I'll put the cards I've prepared for this occasion to good use."

“Understood, Your Excellency.”

Lady Alentia nodded at his command and turned to enter the main palace.

'Uh?'

But then, just as she was about to land, her eyes met with someone who had struck the neck of a large, superior monster outside the main gate of the palace.

Duke of Iels!

Her legs trembled as the sharp black eyes pierced her.

The Duke, with his tall, muscular physique and glossy black hair, exuded a murderous aura that made her feel as if her entire body was being torn apart.

She was gripped by the fear that if she faced him head-on, she would surely die.

Lady Alentia backed away, barely managing to escape Duke Iels' gaze.

She hurried down the spire and quickly ran into the main palace.

In the quiet palace where no one was present, only Lady Alentia's footsteps echoed loudly.

'Haa, haa. Scary, scary.'

There was no way Duke Iels could have followed her, but her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst, and she couldn't shake the fear.

She was scared.

"Duke Iels. Lady Giselle was like that, too. He's not at the level of an ordinary sword master like Crown Prince Adrian, whom I've been watching over."

If not careful, the defense line could be breached, and Empress Giselle's plan to become the gateway to liberation could be disrupted.

That can't be. Just hold on a little longer, just a little longer!

Now, the blood of Crown Prince Adrian and Princess Cordelia had soaked the altar and was ripe, and the gates of liberation were slowly opening.

According to Duke Cardin's orders, she should have stopped at Emperor John's quarters first, but instead she turned her steps towards the prison where the maids and servants of the main palace were kept.

She decided to quickly gather as much black magic as possible and indiscriminately unleash powerful black magic attacks on Duke Iels.

She will kill them all.

Fear drove her to madness.

Lady Alentia ran with her eyes burning red, and the only thing on her mind was the desire to kill.

'I need to kill them all quickly and obtain black magic! Huh?'

But what awaited her was an empty prison.

'Surely, over a hundred palace servants were crammed into this prison, locked up together. How did this happen?'

Lady Alentia, who was frozen in shock, suddenly felt a presence behind her.

“Long time no see?”

A voice she's heard before.

Startled, she slowly turned around.

The woman she never wanted to see, or rather, the woman she wanted to chase after, was waving her hand with a pretty smile.

Princess Yvonne Argenthoz.

"I didn't know it would be this sloppy. It almost made me yawn. Will Lady Alentia make it a little more fun?"

“Princess! Did you steal them all away?!”

“Yes. Why? Did you need those people?”

“Ugh! Princess!!!”

"You're only revealing your true colors now? I'm here. If you kill me, wouldn't you gain a lot of black magic? Go ahead and kill me, Lady Alentia."

Yvonne, grinning with her teeth bared like an evil villain, stretched out her arm and swung a long, hard club menacingly, as if she had picked it up somewhere.

“You should fight with magic. Why are you swinging a weapon?”

Lady Alentia screamed in horror.

“It’s no fun if we just fight.”

“What are you talking about!”

“If you want, I can use magic on you too.”

Yvonne, who had stopped laughing, quickly concentrated her magic power in her other hand.

The surprised Lady Alentia came to her senses and rolled her head.

According to the words of Empress Giselle's shadow wizard, Princess Yvonne was a different type of magician than the average wizard.

She quickly called her familiar, as she needed to buy time to prepare her defensive magic before being hit by that club.

“Velvet, show yourself before me and protect me.”

Purple droplets began to form in the air, and soon they became streams of water.

The water familiar, Velvet, circled around Lady Alentia and protected her.

The purple stream of water with bluish smoke rising was quite threatening.

Lady Alentia glanced at Yvonne as she prepared a powerful attack spell under the protection of her familiar.

'You must be quite surprised, right? ... Huh?'

No.

Yvonne Argenthoz was examining her familiar, Velvet, with eyes sparkling like a child discovering an interesting toy.

It was even more embarrassing because she didn't seem afraid at all.

And Yvonne said this.

“She’s such a pretty and strong child. Can I raise her well?”

The Princess, blowing air as if excited, is it an illusion...?

Lady Alentia was terrified of Yvonne's gibberish.

***

“Ugh!”

The woman, struggling and tied up, cried out in confusion.

“Ugh! Let go of me! Let me go!”

The fight with Lady Alentia, a high-ranking warlock, ended much more blandly than expected.

I looked down at her and clicked my tongue.

'How could I let you go?'

I smiled broadly as I knelt down next to Lady Alentia.

"So. Is it any use for a weak wizard to go out alone without fear? That's too arrogant."

“Ugh! Princess!”

I willingly met her glaring gaze and snickered mischievously.

Of course, to be honest, I didn't know things would work out this easily.

.

.

So, an hour ago.

Pembe and Carol entered the secret entrance on the east side of the palace's outer wall, and although there was a small commotion, we managed to enter the palace building without any trouble.

The first palace discovered was Crown Prince Adrian's 'Palace of Verdant Green', the one closest to the East Gate.

But there was no one there.

I guessed they'd probably herded everyone into one place and locked them away. That way, they could easily use them as sacrifices to obtain their dark magic.

My heart became impatient.

We rushed here after Carol told us that the largest prison in the palace was the dungeon in the main palace.

There were no guards or even prison guards in the huge main palace dungeon.

And when I first stepped into the dungeon, the horrifying sight before me made me feel sick and like I was going to vomit.

In one corner, human bones, burned by the flames of black magic, were piled high, like a tower.

Judging by the traces around them, they were prisoners who had committed serious crimes and were serving time in the underground prison of the imperial palace.

The warlocks sacrificed them first.

No matter how bad a criminal they are, they take black magic at the cost of a human life!

They were so arrogant that I was filled with anger.

As we walked a little further into the dungeon, gritting our teeth, we finally found the palace servants we had been searching for.

The warlocks gathered all the palace workers in one place like livestock.

Ah.

The servants who had already clearly witnessed the scene of the prisoners being sacrificed were not in their right minds.

Those who had been waiting for the day to die stared blankly at us, who had suddenly appeared with pale faces.

But one of the attendants who recognized me shouted in surprise.

'Oh, Princess Argenthoze?'

'She'll save us. Everyone, wake up!'

As I looked around at the trapped people, I soon froze.

Among them was the youngest apprentice maid, an eight-year-old child, who was also locked up...

As I held the child's hand tightly, who was trembling in fear of the terrible death, the child's cold hand soon became warm.

I had to send them out quickly.
