TSFHA - Chapter 9

“Are you curious? What is my special ability?”

“...”

“After seeing this, you’ll immediately cancel your contract and say you don’t want to use me, right?”

“Heh heh heh...”

Ryan covered his eyes with his hand and laughed for a long time. His eyes, looking back at me, were sharp.

“This guy is really funny. Are you just saying random things to get me?”

“Shall I show you?”

"You're not incompetent, but you lied and were kicked out of that nice house on purpose? How can a twelve-year-old have that kind of execution ability?"

"Why can't you come out? Someone was falsely accused at twelve, but quietly went to prison and spent twelve years burning with revenge."

Ryan's mouth fell open.

“Are you talking about me?”

"Yes. I know my father was falsely accused. How could someone so incompetent do something like that?"

“If you’re incompetent, can’t you kill?”

"Why don't you explain? Don't you feel wronged? The real culprits are Duke Edgar Wassenberg, his eldest son David, and his second son Elliot. Three of them."

As I recited the list of murders one after another, Ryan's mouth opened even wider in surprise.

"Now you know why I ran away from home, why I'm determined to stay with you, even if it means dying. I'm still young and need a guardian, but I don't want to live with criminals."

“No, wait. Come on. You.”

"I'll help you get revenge. Until the real criminals are brought to justice and my father's name is cleared."

I lifted my skirt slightly and pulled out the small dagger I had tucked into my thigh. Ryan screamed.

"Hey, you scary girl! Please give me some time to adjust to the shock before we move on to the next step."

“Please lend me a hand.”

"Ha."

Ryan, bewildered, obediently extended his hand. He seemed to want to see what the hell I was trying to do.

“Can I hurt you a little?”

“With those gnarled hands? Give it to me.”

Ryan took the dagger and cut his palm. A long stream of red blood flowed up.

I immediately grabbed Ryan's hand.

That moment.

Restoration of Light

A white halo lingered for a moment and then disappeared.

The blood on his palm was still there.

But.

“...”

Ryan silently wiped away the blood. His palm, which should have been cracked, was intact. The pain must have gone away, too.

‘I wonder how much trouble I had to go through to get this ability back as soon as I returned...’

Restoration of light.

A healing ability classified as top-tier.

I guess it was the strength Ryan needed most. So I desperately sought it out before meeting Ryan.

Because if Ryan rejected me, I had to prove my worth somehow.

“You want to take me with you?”

I placed my hands on my waist and lifted my chin.

"This..."

I felt a little smug when I saw Ryan's blank expression.

It would have been difficult to be surprised here.

What I've just revealed is part of my deck.

With only the ability to heal, there's no way I would have been treated like a princess in my family before returning.

My real ability is...

***

The first memory before returning begins with the voices of the maids waking me up at Windsor Castle.

“Sleepy girl, wake up. It’s morning already.”

“Miss Vania, today is...”

I didn't know who my mother was, and my name was given to me by the maids. I grew up with my illegitimate half-siblings who were in the same situation.

“His Excellency is truly a remarkable person.”

I knew that my father, whom I had never met, was a great man.

The fact that if I manifest this ability, I can leave Windsor Castle and live comfortably by my father's side.

"You know what, Vania? One of my father's children is incompetent."

I first heard about Ryan from my half-sister, Krista, who was the same age as me, when I was nine.

“They say he’s our father’s fifth son, and he’s in prison now. He burned down the entire estate and killed everyone in it.”

"You say he's incompetent? How could he do something like that when he doesn't even have this ability?"

"I don't know about that either. But I overheard the maids talking secretly. They said he was probably incompetent, so his father abandoned him. He didn't even get him out of prison."

At that time, I was young and didn't know the details of what the adults were doing.

However, I only realized that even though I was my father's child, I could be abandoned if I were incompetent.

“Vania! Brother is going!”

“Goodbye, Barney!”

As my brothers who grew up together left one by one, I became anxious.

'When can I go out?'

After hearing that one of my father's children was incompetent, I became even more anxious.

A special power, an ability called 'Bless', meaning blessing. And the people with that power who wield that Bless.

The theory was sharper than anyone else's.

But.

"How do you use Bless? It just comes to you one day. You suddenly realize you can use it."

"I can't explain it in words. Just whoosh, bang!"

“That’s right. Just flick it.”

What the hell are you talking about? I asked my older siblings several times, but I couldn't get a clue.

Then one day.

“Barney, look at this!”

Even Krista has displayed this ability.

The flower petals she held in her hand flew up without even a breath of wind.

"Isn't that great? My blessing is <Storm's Wind>. I can blow some wind on you when you're hot."

So, three more years passed after Krista left the castle.

My age is twelve.

The age set by the family as the limit for the manifestation of supernatural abilities.

Until then, I had not been able to manifest this ability... and for the first time, I was able to meet my father.

"Again?"

A body as tall as a mountain. Golden hair and the bright yellow eyes of a beast.

The first time I saw my father, the Duke of Wassenberg, he was like a hot sun that seemed to burn everything down.

“Are you saying she’s incompetent again?”

But his expression was infinitely cold.

Even though I was young, I instinctively felt that if I didn't have something to show, I would be abandoned.

“Just whizz, bang!”

“That’s right. Just flick it.”

What on earth is that?

“They say there is an incompetent person among the father’s children.”

“It seems like his father abandoned him because he was incompetent.”

No. I can't be abandoned.

Krista did it too. Why can't I?

Why?

I trembled and remembered the moment when Krista used her power.

The sight of that child blowing a breeze.

"Ah?"

At that moment, the hem of my skirt fluttered.

I realized.

“Oh, Father! Did you see that?”

That I have the same power as Krista.

"I just blew like Krista! I could do it too!"

But for some reason, my father had a strange expression on his face. The managers who had come with him also looked puzzled.

“That’s right. It’s like Krista’s blessing.”

"Yes, it's definitely <Storm's True>. This is the first time two people in the same generation have possessed the same supernatural ability."

All the managers who reconfirmed my ability were amazed.

Why...?

***

To conclude, my ability was not <Storm's True>.

I went through a few more experiments after that, and I finally knew for sure what kind of power I had.

The ability to 'copy' ability.

The prerequisite is that you must have seen or recognized at least once the moment when other people with superpowers use their superpowers.

“Let’s name your ability ‘Mirror Eyes’.”

The eyes of the mirror.

Even if the holder does not have a unique ability, if they meet the prerequisites and collect them, they can obtain all of the abilities of others.

A type of supernatural ability that has never appeared in the history of the family...

I had already awakened this ability around the age of eight, but I didn't know it because the power was different from what I had before.

<Mirror's Eyes> was decided as a 'special' ability without any need for discussion.

Along with <Instant Death>, it was one of only two special abilities in history.

“You are great, my daughter.”

My father was very happy and doted on me, even giving me the position of vice-principal when I was only twelve years old.

'Well, it all happened again.'

Of course, the memory I just remembered is from the first time.

After returning, in this second round, I made a different choice in the same situation.

I pretended to be incompetent and was abandoned by my family, and that's how I ended up here.

'I'm just trying to meet you.'

I looked at Ryan.

He looked at his healed palm with a confused expression and said.

"No way..."
