TSFHA - Chapter 13

The sea breeze of a warm summer day was ruffling his white hair.

It's already been 30 minutes.

Revan left the cabin without saying a word and just stared out at the sea on the deck, while I stood at a distance, wondering whether or not I should go and comfort him.

“Leave him alone. He’ll be in shock.”

Ryan, who was next to me, said.

“When he was young, he was an orphan and was raised by his real parents.”

“Professors?”

"Yeah. Among them, there were even adoptive parents who gave their last names. They were good people, so how shocking would it be to hear they conducted some kind of human experiment?"

“But, do you believe everything I say?”

“Honestly, I have no choice but to believe it.”

Ryan sighed.

"There were more than a few strange things. Those professors, dying unjustly, should have cursed the Duke of Wassenberg and left, but they were strangely indifferent."

“...”

"If what you're saying is true, then everything makes sense. My father, who knows how to do crazy things without being noticed, blew a whole estate so openly. There must have been a reason for him to do something like that."

Ryan looked back at me and added.

“And since you know this much about things that happened before you were even born, I can only explain it as something you picked up in a corner of the house.”

I nodded. Ryan stared at me intently.

...it will be suspicious, right?

“Are you suspicious of me?”

"Uh."

“...”

"There's so much I want to question you about right now. But I'm not. Do you know why?"

"Why?"

“It’s cowardly to push a young girl.”

Wow. That's really nice of you to hear...

"Forcing you to open your mouth by threatening or threatening you with this much force is no different from child abuse, so I won't do it. I can't stand being ripped off twice."

"Yes."

I laughed softly.

From the beginning, I opened my mouth with the belief that Ryan wouldn't threaten me by shaking my collar.

“Please keep taking me. Then I will slowly tell you everything...”

In fact, it would be wise to keep my mouth shut from now on so as not to be questioned unnecessarily.

'Because I don't have time for that.'

Since we've decided to board the same boat, there's a lot of information to share. Also, I need to make sure I'm as informative as possible, so I don't risk any potential distractions.

“What? Were you afraid I’d abandon you?”

“...”

"Don't worry. I'll be by your side, keeping an eye on you. No matter how much I think about it, it's suspicious, and you know too much. I'm sure you're one of my father's puppets."

"Yes?"

When I looked flustered, Ryan scratched his forehead.

“...There is something else.”

He said with a slightly embarrassed expression.

“Actually, it’s the blessing you have, and I need it desperately right now.”

"Ah."

“It was so desperate that I even considered kidnapping my third sister, who had that blessing.”

“That’s a crime...”

“I know. But then, my unexpected daughter came to me on her own two feet with that blessing.”

“...”

"It'd be too heartless to say I'm using you, so let's just say we're helping each other out. I'll take responsibility for my young, helpless daughter, and you'll fulfill your duty to your father. What do you think?"

“Huh? I like it! I really like it!”

“So, the negotiations have been concluded?”

Ryan grinned and thrust out his upturned fist. I clenched my fist and met it.

“Decided!”

Then.

Plan A

1. Pretend to be incompetent and get kicked out of the family → Success!

2. Meet Ryan and follow him → Success!

3. Find out Ryan's true intentions → Success!

4. Form an alliance with Ryan → Success!

We've finally made it to the final stage of Plan A!

I laughed for a while and then asked cautiously.

“But earlier at the inn... You asked if I was a mutant, right?”

"Yes."

“Blessings don’t overlap.”

Ryan said so.

Even after witnessing the healing blessing <Restoration of Light> with his own eyes, he doubted that two people with the same power could exist...

'No, it was more like he was almost certain than I was suspicious. Clearly.'

I was curious as to why he was so sure.

"Well, since Dad is incompetent, you probably don't know, so I'll tell you about my experience. One day, I suddenly realized, 'Ah! I can use this ability!'"

"Hmm. Yeah, that's right. That's how people usually awaken."

...pretend not to know.

“I just naturally learned that my blessing was a healing spell and how to use it.”

“Yeah. I guess so.”

“I knew my third sister had the same blessing as me, but I never thought it was strange...”

I asked, glancing at Ryan's expression.

“But is that strange?”

“...”

Ryan, who had been silent for a moment, touching the corner of his mouth, turned to me and said.

"Yes. That's strange, from my perspective. Blessings can't overlap."

“May I ask why you are so sure?”

"Curious?"

"Yes."

"Hmm."

Ryan nodded and gestured for me to come closer. I approached nervously.

Ryan bent down and whispered secretly in my ear.

“...If you’re curious, five hundred gold.”

“Ouch.”

***

August 5, 922 Imperial Calendar.

Early morning with pouring rain.

Ryan, the 12-year-old boy and fifth son of the Wassenberg family, suddenly woke up from a deep sleep.

"Ah!"

Short elasticity. And joy.

The boy sat up abruptly and laughed, breathing heavily.

'Me too...'

And he shuddered as he turned his trembling hands over and over before his eyes.

'I was also a person with superpowers.'

It was a fact that Ryan learned in a flash that morning.

“Blessings just happen one day out of the blue.”

“What my blessing is, how to use it, how strong it can become through training... all of that... you just realize it right away.”

His uncle was right.

Ryan, who was ostracized from his family because he didn't develop his powers until he was 12, is the only person who still treats him with affection. His uncle.

What he taught him was true.

Even.

'It was the same power as my uncle!'

If he tells this fact, Ryan will be welcomed back into the family.

His father will no longer ignore him or be angry with him, but will welcome him.

The boy ran with a heavy heart.

He'll tell everyone. He, too, was a person with supernatural powers. He wasn't a disgrace to his father.

“Father...!”

Ryan froze.

His father, who had been out inspecting the estate, had already returned. He was with his two older brothers.

For some reason, he was covered in blood all over his body, and he had stepped on something...

"Ah."

What lay gruesomely on the floor was none other than his uncle's body.

“Ahhhhh!”

The surprised Ryan fell to his knees and trembled.

As usual, his father looked at Ryan like he was looking at a bug.

“Why, why, why my uncle...”

Ryan asked.

“Why did you kill him...?”

That was a really stupid question.

It's not like he didn't know what kind of person his father was.

"Little brother. Why do you always bother Father with such pointless questions? Can't you tell? It's because your uncle keeps disobeying Father's orders."

The second-oldest brother, Elliot, answered instead.

The father and two older brothers continued their conversation as if nothing had happened, leaving Ryan shocked.

Ryan stared blankly at his dead uncle with his eyes wide open.

And then.

'Ah.'

He realized it very intuitively.

'It was because my uncle died.'

The law of this ability.

'That's how I was able to manifest this ability.'

Why did the ability that had been bothering him for 12 years suddenly manifest itself in the early hours of that day while he was sleeping?

Why was the ability that was manifested the same type as my uncle's?

There was only one answer.

'Blessings don't overlap.'

Ryan instinctively judged it that way.

An unknown power, an ability that even the people in the family with supernatural powers cannot fully understand its source and physiology.

It seems that it will probably continue in the form of 'succession'.

If his uncle hadn't died, Ryan would have continued to live thinking that he was incompetent.

“By the way, Father, you blew up Conrad’s estate without any justification, so the aftermath will be a bit complicated.”

"That's right. Only those with special abilities could do such a thing. There has to be some excuse for killing all the people of the territory..."

Two brothers are having an incomprehensible conversation.

“Oh, don’t worry.”

And father.

He said, pointing to Ryan, who was sitting down with a pale face.

“Because everything that happened today will be caused by that.”
