Queen Of Villains - Chapter 31

Emily's shoulder condition was worse than expected. When Emily returned injured, the people of Starr were in a state of panic.

“Come on, bring Payne.”

“Understood, Giovanni.”

Butler Alvin hurried out to fetch the Doctor. Cezanne, Roxy, and Chili, known for their cool-headedness, also showed signs of confusion for the first time since arriving.

“What should we do, Giovanni?”

“Bring some clothes for the lady to change into and get some warm water.”

"All right."

“Oh no, drinking water too.”

“Yes! I’ll get ready quickly and go up.”

While Alvin was giving instructions, Killian took Emily to her room and laid her on the bed.

“Just take a break.”

Emily felt burdened by the way people seemed to be at a loss, even though she didn't think she was seriously injured.

“Still, you should get treatment.”

“It’s really okay...”

“Just take it.”

Emily leaned back against the high pillow with a resigned expression, perhaps thinking she couldn't overcome Killian's stubbornness.

Soon after, Dr. Payne came in carrying a medical bag. His face flushed from Alvin's constant nagging, and he quickly examined Emily's complexion and instructed her to move around.

“What do you think?”

Dr. Payne, crushed by Killian's momentum, opened his mouth, his shoulders hesitant.

"It's just a muscle strain. Don't worry too much, just rest and get some steaming treatment."

“Do I not need to take any medicine?”

Dr. Payne looked at Killian with a strange expression, but immediately looked away from his sharp gaze and answered.

“If you’re really worried, I can prescribe some muscle relaxant.”

Hearing that, Alvin immediately intervened.

“Don’t worry, Madam, I’ll make sure to bring your medicine along with your meal.”

“Yes, then she should get some rest, so go out now.”

As Killian's words fell and the people left, Emily carefully grabbed his sleeve and shook it.

“What do you have to say?”

He asked with a serious expression, as if he thought she had called because she was uncomfortable.

“I’m so sleepy...”

“Shall I turn off the lights?”

“No... I want you to leave, too.”

"Ah."

Killian nodded and walked out the door, hiding his embarrassed expression.

“...”

Killian awkwardly met eyes with Dr. Payne and Alvin, who had not yet left the hallway.

“Well, My Lord, are you feeling well? If you need any medicine...”

“Yes, then go down.”

"...Yes."

Dr. Payne and Alvin comforted Killian with secret glances.

The next day, Emily had breakfast with Killian in her room, dressed in comfortable loungewear.

He felt dizzy from the sight of her long, untied hair, the soft lines of her body revealed by her lack of a corset, and above all, the warmth of the room that smelled like Emily's body odor.

“What happened to what I asked you to do?”

Emily asked, her eyes glued to the newspapers detailing her exploits. Knox's threats seemed to have worked, as the reporters heaped praise on the Starr family.

In particular, the highlight was the story about Emily's gun skills.

'I don't like the picture.'

Emily was more concerned with her own face than the article itself. She didn't like the fact that her right side was shown instead of the left, and she didn't like the way her face looked when she frowned.

Killian glanced at Emily, wondering why she was looking so serious, and answered.

“You're ready to train as soon as you feel better.”

“Really? Thank you.”

Emily realized something after the shootout that day.

It wasn't enough to just get help from Killian or the other Starr family members to protect herself.

They tried their best to protect Emily, but an unexpected situation like yesterday could happen at any time.

So, isn't that why she was kidnapped by the Giuliano family and lost her life in the original work?

Ultimately, only you can protect yourself. That's why she asked Killian to let her receive the training his family received yesterday.

Killian also had no intention of dissuading Emily from her decision, citing the danger.

Living in a mafia family, you never know what dangers might arise, so it's a good idea to learn how to use a gun or a knife.

The best thing to do is to prevent that from happening to Emily.

“Who do you train with?”

Originally, the Starr family's education was entrusted to Chambers. However, he absolutely refused to have men take charge of her training.

If he could even hold her hand, even under the pretext of helping her get into a good position... Killian felt like he could kill someone just by imagining it.

“I left it to Cezanne.”

In retrospect, she was actually a perfect fit for Emily. She could teach her many of the offensive and self-defense techniques that are more advantageous to women than men.

Above all, she was skilled with both guns and swords, and could subdue most men with her bare hands.

Ah! She also got extra points from Killian for being close to Emily.

“I think I can train with confidence if it’s Cezanne.”

Emily also agreed with Killian's thoughts.

“You have great athletic ability, so you’ll learn quickly.”

“Is that so?”

Emily felt embarrassed by Killian's praise, which she heard for the first time.

“Have you ever had your magical powers checked?”

“I heard it was a C grade.”

The population capable of using magical powers is limited. Nobles are more likely to possess magical powers than commoners, and 85% of them possess C or D-grade magical powers.

C grade is the minimum grade that can use magic bullets.

Grade B is 10%, meaning that even the most complex gun can be mastered with ease. Furthermore, it has the unique characteristic of not easily tiring out after using magical power.

Grade A is 4%. It is a grade that is difficult to obtain unless you have royal blood.

Since many high-ranking nobles have royal blood flowing through their veins, they do emerge from among the nobility (and rarely from the commoners). Furthermore, only those with at least an A-rank can become a knight commander.

Finally, the highest rank, S-rank. While the highest rank it's all-or-nothing. Without proper training, it's no different from those without magical power.

For reference, Charles, who is an S-rank and has received the best education, is currently the only sword master in Vancent.

“I think it would be a good idea to check your magic power again.”

"Why?"

“It seems like your magical power is at least B-grade.”

At Killian's words, Emily waved her hand, pretending not to hear anything, even though she was secretly expecting it.

“There’s no way that’s true.”

“First, let’s call Payne.”

“Yes, I get it.”

At that moment, there was a knock on the door, and the butler Alvin came in.

“What’s going on?”

“My Lord, a letter has arrived from the Gottio family.”

Killian took the envelope from Alvin and quickly opened it. His expression didn't look particularly good as he read the letter.

“Giovanni said Vito Gottio will be here today or tomorrow.”

“I promised to go, but I guess I’ll have to move up my schedule.”

“Yes, I will prepare it.”

Emily listened to their conversation and recalled an episode from the original story.

Vito Gottio. He is the current head of the Gottio family and has friendly relations with the Starr family. In the original, he was a minor character, much like Emily.

However, the incident that occurred because of it was rather big. There was an incident where a fight for succession broke out at Vito Gottio's funeral, and the entire area became a scene of chaos.

Naturally, the Starr family, who were friendly with them, would also suffer damage, and Vito Gottio's poor health meant that a coup was imminent.

Emily opened her mouth, her head cluttered with thoughts.

“I’ll go to the temple this afternoon.”

Emily was a Carp, the state religion of Vancent. Because her parents were Carp, her religion was determined from birth.

Even after her parents passed away, Emily never missed Sunday Mass and consulted with the priest when making important decisions.

Even on days when she had a headache like this, she went and prayed, and her mind felt at ease.

Killian's eyebrows twitched at Emily's words about going to the temple.

“Your body is not yet healed.”

“I don’t care anymore because the muscle pain medication is working.”

As Emily demonstrated, moving her arms around, Killian was left speechless. Finally, he sighed and opened his mouth.

“Then take Alvin with you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Alvin stepped forward and bowed.

“Madam, I will take care of you.”

“Yes, then I’d like to ask you to escort me.”

Emily answered with a smile.

“Then I’ll go out now and prepare for the afternoon schedule without any problems.”

Alvin was busy with a sudden schedule, so he quickly said goodbye and went outside.

After a moment of silence, Killian spoke.

“I have to leave this afternoon, so I’ll drop you off in front of the shrine. What time do you think you’ll be finished?”

“Well... I’m not sure about that. Maybe an hour or two?”

Emily, who had been thinking, shook her head again and opened her mouth.

“Don’t worry about going back. It’s within walking distance anyway, and Alvin is right next to you.”

Killian never declared himself an infidel, but he did not attend the temple and was not particularly fond of the Pope.

It was unusual to see that most of the mafia were Carpathians.

Still, he didn't stop Emily from going to the temple. Of course, he didn't show any signs of disliking it.

Those who know Killian will be surprised that he even went so far as to assign someone to Emily so she could go to the temple.

“I will be there in an hour.”

“Um, what if it doesn’t end by then?”

“I will wait by your side without disturbing you.”

This would be Killian's second visit to the temple since the wedding there. Emily was surprised to hear him say this, having never set foot there before.

But he was still uneasy about having Alvin next to Emily.

Perhaps, until this anxiety subsided, Killian would continue to betray his beliefs.
