Episode 109. War
Hiloshine's walls and watchtowers.
After repairing the castle, they next repaired the massive walls surrounding Hiloshine.
Renisha's top priorities were military power, security, and safety.
The newly constructed massive fortress boasted an imposing presence, seemingly insurmountable.
Whoosh!
A horn sounded.
Those hiding in the dark forest emerged.
The thump of horses and the clash of armor could be heard simultaneously.
"A surprise attack!"
The ramparts awoke.
Knights, rubbing their sleepy eyes, suddenly stood up.
Pushed by a comrade, one knight ran down the ramparts.
"We must see the lady! A surprise attack! The Emperor's knights are in Hiloshine...!"
His shout drew his sleeping comrades out.
At that moment, a bell rang from the ramparts.
It was a clear bell, signaling the enemy's incursion.
“Hiloshine’s temporary lord, Lottera’s representative, listen up! Lottera has defied the imperial edict and plotted treason! He has dared to kidnap His Highness the Crown Prince with treasonous intent! His Majesty seeks justice against Hiloshine! Admit your guilt and surrender immediately!”
A booming man’s voice woke Hiloshine completely.
Haylin heard it too.
A dark smile spread across her face.
Haylin, too, had been unable to sleep.
“Treason.”
“Considering that they came without warning, this was not an official surprise attack. There were no warning signs.”
“No one can guess what Laxus is thinking. But I wasn’t preparing to give up just like this.”
Haylin’s voice lowered.
Hatred and anger clung to the end of her cracked voice.
Haylin blinked.
The halo of light flickered and then came back to life.
That faint light was as poignant as Brixton's life itself.
It was a light Haylin might never capture again.
Isabella grabbed the hem of Haylin's skirt.
Since returning, Haylin hadn't been able to let Isabella out of her arms.
Isabella stared at Haylin with an anxious expression.
"Mother..."
"Nothing will happen, Isabella."
Haylin hugged Isabella tightly. Isabella shook her head, as if to deny it.
"War isn't something you can calculate, Mother... It's far more brutal and cruel."
Isabella swallowed back the words she'd left unsaid.
She had no choice but to admit that there was no other option.
Brixton was teetering on the brink of death, and Haylin's body was growing scars she hadn't recognized.
War had already permeated all of Hiloshine.
"Prepare the knights. Have them carry the leaders of the Yi tribes and deploy the warriors. Just as we've been training them to do."
He had a premonition of this moment ever since Renisha's baby arrived here.
Unable to bear the commotion any longer, he practically shoved her onto his back.
It wasn't Renisha, but Renisha who had signaled the start of the war.
In that case, she had no choice but to respond.
"...Yes, Lady Haylin."
Therion bowed his head.
The war, thought to have ended on the Chorpa Plains, had arrived here again.
Therion clutched his trembling right hand with his left.
The terrible hell where countless people had died and lived... was about to come.
'Damn Renisha!'
I'll offer his head before the spirits of the dead knights and avenge them.
Luna, standing by the window, peered through the curtains, muttered in a stern voice.
"The knights are all over the place. Are they all watching us?"
"Probably."
Renisha shrugged.
"You're not afraid. Aren't you scared?"
Luna snickered.
She knew Renisha was bold, but she never expected her to be so calm in this situation.
"Laxus and I traded blows. You don't want any more of that kind of playful behavior, do you?"
"That's a joke? They could kill you at any moment!"
"Probably so."
Renisha shrugged again.
"But I can't do anything because I'm scared of it."
Renisha's eyes sparkled.
She's guessed what was going to happen since she's pushed Laxus back.
If Renisha had stolen the Prince and he had stayed still, Laxus would either have gone mad or lost his strength and died.
Renisha snickered.
"This was a war I'd predicted. Now the question is who would win. Laxus would bring Hiloshine to kneel before him, and he'd try to make me kneel again."
Just like before.
He'd made Lottera kneel to make Renisha kneel, and he'd killed the Duke of Lottera to destroy her.
Laxus only knew one way, so it was clear he'd use that method again.
"Is Kassius fully prepared for this war?"
"What?"
Luna snapped, turning to Renisha.
"Are you saying the damned Emperor will attack Kassius too?"
"He'd target Kassius first."
"Why!!"
"Because Kassius has me. It's funny, but that's how it is. Sometimes a man's jealousy is beyond imagination."
Renisha smiled faintly.
“You...”
“What should I do to end this situation?”
Renisha asked softly.
Even at this moment, Renisha showed no sign of agitation.
Luna bit her lip.
Renisha pushed Kassius back, pushing him into the chaos.
Luna’s heart seethed.
Knowing Kassius was this kind of woman...
“I need Laxus’s neck, Luna.”
Luna swallowed.
“His neck needs to be broken for this to end.”
“You... the reason I stayed here...”
“To end Laxus here. There are countless secret passages in the palace.”
Renisha stood up.
She went to the tapestry hanging on the drawing room wall and tapped it.
After touching a few bricks, the door opened with a creak.
Luna barely suppressed a scream.
“Are you just going to watch so stupidly?”
Luna shook her head.
“I have to go save Kassius.”
Renisha held out her hand.
She was wearing a hood pulled down over her simply dressed dress.
Renisha had already prepared herself for this moment.
“I thought you were going to run away!”
Anyway, she was a woman beyond imagination.
And she was going to save Kassius?
“This damned bitch.”
Who had created this situation?
Yet, Luna felt an unbelievable thrill. She was taking Renisha’s hand and going to slay Laxus, the enemy of the tribes.
Renisha was the one who could take Luna to a new world.
Luna gripped Renisha’s hand tightly.
“You’re crazy.”
Renisha answered with a smile.

Kassius woke up at the mansion.
Signals were coming from those Kassius had scattered like dots.
“The Emperor’s army has now crossed Lamberton Bridge!”
“The Emperor’s army has crossed 8th Street!”
Kassius's nerves were on edge as reports arrived one after another.
Laxus drew his sword.
Renisha had hoped Kassius would return the sword.
She had told him to defend the Lottera mansion and then return to the imperial palace.
Laxus attacked Hiloshine and Lottera first.
The justification was sufficient.
"We will move according to the first strategy first."
Kassius's voice dropped to a low tone.
A crimson glow flickered in his eyes as he turned around.
"Evacuate the elderly, women, and children underground, and have the rest fight with swords. I will be at the forefront."
"Yes, Your Excellency!"
Kassius fiddled with the sword at his waist.
It was the sword Renisha had forged for him.
It was as if the sword was whispering to Laxus, "Don't stop, keep going!"
Kassius grinned bitterly.
Red scales sprouted along the back of his arms.
Slurp, slurp.
Power stolen from the gods enveloped him.
The mansion's forces were divided into two groups.
They would take charge of the left and right.
Kassius, alone, would be sufficient in the center.
The Emperor's knights were swarming from all sides.
Kassius had given sufficient warning to the nearby Imperials through Turiel.
Thanks to this, the streets were plunged into silence.
A cruel night was approaching.
Kassius gasped for breath.
The mansion's gate wasn't very strong.
He had mobilized his knights to pile firewood in front of it, but it was only a temporary measure.
It would soon collapse. Kassius was the mansion's most powerful force.
He had to hold it all back.
Kassius, sword in hand, straightened his posture.
"Come to me, Kassius."
Renisha's whispered voice was still pressed into his ears.
Kassius raised his sword.
"Waaaaaaah! Break down the gate and punish the traitors!!!"
"By His Majesty the Emperor's order! There will be a generous reward for capturing Duke Kassius alive!!"
With a creaking sound, the closed gate swung open.
Duke Cloud, standing at the very front, stepped back.
The knights paused, seeing a red aura rippling around Kassius.
A hallucination spurted out, as if a bright red snake had reared its head above Kassius, glaring at them.
'Duke Kassius killed so many people, didn't he? He's a slaughterer!'
'They say he's unforgiving!'
'They say he drinks the blood of the dead and skins them!'
'They say he becomes a snake, loses his wits, and devours people!'
The rumors circulating in the streets caught up with them.
Duke Cloud, who had been falling behind, shouted,
"I will not tolerate anyone who hesitates! I will execute him according to military law! His head now...!"
At that moment, Duke Cloud and Kassius' eyes met.
Duke Cloud involuntarily paused.
"...Great! Bring me his head! I will give you a fortune enough to live off of!"
A fortune enough to live off of.
That, too, only works if you're alive.
Duke Cloud shoved the knights who hesitated violently on their backs.
“Do you want to die!”
Wild dogs lurked ahead, and before their eyes, a red snake, a god that would kill them, waited.
Some of the knights, unable to decide what to do, threw down their swords and fled.
The legend of the Chorpa Plains that they had only heard of was being reenacted before their eyes.
“You, you, you!! These damned things!”
