Queen of Villains - Chapter 1

Emily is the sole heiress of the Sinope Counts' House.

No, actually, the title of heiress is too much. Her parents passed away, leaving her with nothing but a mountain of debt.

Emily, the daughter of a fallen Count, was left with few options: marry a man who would pay off her debts.

Unfortunately, the man was Killian Starr, the head of the most notorious mafia family in the Van Cent Empire.

Living with memories of her past life, she somehow felt familiar with his name. It wasn't simply because Killian was so famous.

There was something even more bothersome than that, something she could barely remember.

“Nanny, stop crying.”

The new bride, dressed in a white dress, wiped away her nanny's tears with a troubled expression.

Even though she is now ruined, Emily was the only daughter of a Count's family and was raised with great care.

The nanny was beyond words, knowing that such a precious young lady had become the mistress of a gang that treated her like a thug.

“If I die, how can I face my master and his wife?”

“Well... wouldn’t it be embarrassing for them to see me?”

Unlike other nobles, the Count and Countess of Sinope were not at all cunning. They liked people and trusted them easily.

Their advance guarantees had ballooned to unmanageable levels, and they were even subjected to business fraud. While traveling to the capital to settle their debts, the Count and his wife died in a carriage accident.

“Ahem, it makes me sad that you look even more beautiful today.”

The nanny changed the subject for no reason and tidied up Emily's hair behind her ears.

Emily had eyes as clear as aquamarine, azure blue. A painter who once painted Emily's portrait lamented that no color could express her eyes.

With her thick, curly brown hair and dark eyebrows, she looked like she was born a noble woman, and her gorgeous features and flawless, white skin naturally caught everyone's attention.

“If I wanted to, I could easily blind one or two people.”

“Are you asking me to cause bloodshed?”

Emily couldn't understand her nanny's words at all. Then, a gentle knock came from outside.

“The meal will begin soon.”

The nanny's face darkened even more as the reality came right before her eyes.

No adult male in the Sinope family could lead Emily into the wedding hall by holding her hand. Hands were precious in the Sinope family, and they didn't even have relatives.

So, unusually, the bride and groom entered the wedding at the same time. Even though they hadn't met before, Emily was grateful for Killian's consideration.

“Nanny, I guess the man who’s going to be my husband is really handsome.”

Emily's mouth felt dry with nervousness as she finally saw her groom's face. In fact, many others had proposed, not just Killian.

However, despite her good family background, she was mostly a concubine of a nobleman who was ten years older than Emily.

She thought that it would be better to marry into a place like that with Killian, who was young, rich, and handsome.

“Huh, I’m glad I can at least eat your face.”

But the nanny, still dissatisfied with his background, pouted.

As Emily said, Killian, despite his infamy, was famous for his stunning beauty that was unforgettable at first sight.

Even the enemies fighting the Starr Family were momentarily captivated by his appearance and dropped their weapons.

Remembering his rumors, Emily checked her appearance once more, then, with the help of her nanny, held the hem of her long dress and headed to the wedding hall.

As she arrived at the entrance to the wedding hall, the attendants approached her politely. They touched Emily's veil and dress once more and gave her some advice.

"Now, when you enter, Killian will be standing there. Just approach him naturally, link arms, and enter."

“Yes.”

Emily swallowed thickly.

Finally, the door slowly opened, revealing the inside of the hall. It was a black feast, so dark that it was hard to tell if this was a wedding or a funeral.

In the guest seats, men wearing black coats, black trousers, and black bowler hats were sitting, giving off a murderous aura.

Emily took a step back without realizing it. Seeing them, the thought suddenly crossed her mind: "Is this marriage even worth it?"

She knows. It's ridiculous and pointless to think like this now. But what can she do when it finally dawns on her after seeing these people?

Someone approached her as she was too afraid to take a step forward.

“Emily.”

His voice was terribly low and sweet. The word "Emily" he pronounced was so smooth and fluid that for a moment she was unsure if he had actually called her.

“This way.”

He carefully took her arm. Wearing a long tailcoat and a boutonniere pinned to his chest, he was, as expected, the groom, Killian, and his face was even more handsome than rumored.

Beneath his straight forehead, his strong, dark eyebrows were slightly scratched by a scar of unknown origin.

Deep and profound eyes held mysterious gray pupils, and a perfectly shaped, high nose combined with a sharp, angular jawline revealed a deep masculinity.

Moreover, his tightly closed lips possessed a classical beauty, yet at the same time seemed cold. He was so tall that even Emily, who was taller than average, had to bend her head to see hia face.

Emily decided to put aside her resentment toward her parents for a moment when she saw Killian's face, so handsome that it was enough to make her give up everything.

And then, quietly linking arms with Killian, the bride and groom began their march. The wedding hall was eerily quiet, save for the music playing.

'But what has been bothering you so much since earlier?'

Emily's small anxiety, which had been present even before her marriage, reared its head again after seeing Killian's face. She felt like she had missed something profound.

Emily was careful not to show off, secretly observing Killian's face, and then she flinched.

'Gray eyes?'

Emily felt a chill down the back of her head as if struck by lightning at the thought that had just occurred to her.

The gray eyes of the Starr family!

That was a word used to describe the male protagonist of the book <Flowers that Bloom in Hell>, which she had read in her previous life.

Since the male protagonist's name was Daniel Starr, this person must have been his father, Killian Starr.

'Wait a minute, so I'm playing Daniel's biological mother who dies giving birth to him?'

It was so heartbreaking and absurd that she couldn't even think of that important detail during the wedding ceremony. It took her breath away.

It was her favorite book among the books she read in her past life, so how could she not remember it?

'Of course, since I'm an extra among extras!'

Emily swallowed her tears of injustice.

How was your relationship with your spouse? Were they happy? Was there a mandatory date for the reunion?

As various thoughts swirled around Emily, the ceremony passed, and before she knew it, a ring was on her hand, and the time had finally come for the vow kiss.

She felt Killian's hand lifting the veil. Emily flinched involuntarily and threw her head back.

'Kissing alone doesn't make a baby, what's wrong, Emily?'

She soon began to reproach herself and closed her eyes again, waiting for him to kiss her.

“Yes, with this, the vows of the two are complete.”

Emily frowned and opened one eye. Was she too nervous to notice her face was numb? She hadn't even felt their lips touch, let alone a kiss, yet somehow the cold had already passed.

Killian pretended to kiss her and then nodded to the officiant, ending the ceremony. She stood there, feeling uneasy, as if she had been kicked out, when Killian called over his confidant, who was nearby.

“Giovanni, you take Madam to her room.”

As Emily looked up at Killian with eyes full of questions, he opened his mouth.

“You must be tired from today’s schedule, so please skip the reception and rest in your room.”

It was absurd for Killian to have a new bride rest in her room without even greeting the guests. But...

She looked around the restaurant again. Yes, it was impossible to walk around and say hello to these scary people.

Whatever Killian's intentions were, Emily wasn't confident she could last until the wedding reception. She quickly accepted his words and decided to follow Giovanni's instructions.

In the Vancent Empire, where Carpism is the state religion, most weddings are held in temples.

However, despite being a Carpathian, Emily borrowed the last name and held the wedding ceremony due to the strong insistence of her husband's family.

Emily, who had been through many great things, didn't care whether the wedding was held in a temple or a castle.

But now, as she walked along this labyrinthine and complex path, she began to feel increasingly scared.

“I hope I’m not being locked up...”

Emily thought she spoke very quietly, but Giovanni's hearing was twice as sharp as anyone else's.

He pretended not to hear Emily muttering and quickly walked her to the door to avoid any misunderstandings.

“Then I will go. Please go in and get some rest.”

“Oh, yes, I’ll go.”

Giovanni furtively studied Madame's face. He was even more polite than he usually was with others, but it's unclear whether Madame noticed. Giovanni stepped back, feeling uneasy.

When she entered the room, a maid was waiting to change her clothes. Emily felt a strange sense of relief when she saw her.

Emily, who had changed into comfortable dressing gowns with the help of the maid, dismissed her and remained in the room alone, lost in thought.

A smile soon appeared on Emily's lips as she realized she had been possessed by a novel and was wondering how she should live.

Anyway, the original work hasn't even started yet, and it's just a passing role, so it won't have much of an impact.

“Yeah! I’ll have to be humble!”
