TVOTP - Chapter 72

Ant was astonished to see the Duke, dressed in light traveling attire, a cloak, a sword slung at his side, and a small amount of food. He didn't even bring an attendant.

“...Are you really going to go all the way to the estate?”

"It's a hassle to go alone. I'll hurry over and check, then come back quickly. Just understand."

Rudnine responded as if there was no time and pulled on the reins to make them move.

“Aren’t you taking me too?”

"You're annoying too. You're just taking care of all the paperwork."

And after looking up at the sky that was beginning to darken, he hurried his horse and started to run.

The capital began to move away.

The road runs north, facing the wind.

Rudnine was already sad that Yvonne's fragrant scent seemed to be disappearing.

He decided to quickly report to work and return within three days.

Thump thump.

The clouds were thick, and rain had finally started to fall during the night. Rudnine thought as he put on the hood attached to his cloak.

What is Yvonne doing?

He hopes she's sleeping well. He said he contacted her, but he wonders if she'll wait.

That's unlikely, though.

Rudnine smiled bitterly.

A story he heard from Barden suddenly came to mind. He'd told him that Yvonne didn't like the first gift he'd given her, so she threw it away.

Now that he thinks about it, it seems like the area where the new monster appeared this time was near the Thiels Magic Stone Mine.

Rudnine's black eyes shone quietly.

'Since I'm already here, I should inspect it and erase it.'

What would Yvonne say if he told her about the Thiels mine that she hates so much and erased it?

Rudnaine's eyes sparkled as he hoped that she would say he did well and that she would love him more.

He was so happy to imagine a future where she would praise him that he smiled even though it was raining.

***

Swaaa...

“Eeeeeeeee-!!!”

There was chaos inside and outside the mansion from the morning.

Has the rainy season penetrated the interior of the mansion as well?

It couldn't be, but the faces of the people here were dark and filled with anger, like the sky pouring down rain.

“Princess...”

"Uh..."

I gave a vague answer to Eudela, who called me and glanced out the window with a gloomy look.

The rain was falling in crazy white stripes, and it seemed as if it was representing my feelings.

Seriously, it's pouring down rain.

The more I thought about it, the angrier I became, and my chest felt tight.

“What, what is this? Aah!”

“Princess!”

Eudela grabbed the back of my neck and stopped me from falling.

“Ahh... I’m so dizzy.”

“Princess, come to your senses!”

I pretended to be weak, holding onto Eudela's arm and supporting her, but in fact, I wasn't dizzy at all.

Damn, I'm just so pissed!

I drank the Thiels, and my magic power returned a little, and I caught a servant horse, so there were many things I wanted to try and find out.

From the morning when rain was falling lightly, a bolt from the blue struck the Agenthoz mansion.

“Yvonne...”

Oh, right.

There was someone more upset and shocked than I right now.

I straightened up in Eudela's arms.

The eyes of Duke Argenthoz, who was more impressed than I was before me, shone brightly.

“What the heck... what on earth does this mean, Yvonne?”

“I, I don’t know either, Father. Hahaha?”

I was very embarrassed and angry, but Duke Argenthoz was so angry that I was in an ambiguous situation.

Now in his hand, he held a golden invitation, officially from the palace.

The recipient is me, Yvonne Argenthoz.

And the sender is Empress Giselle.

A splendid golden invitation from the imperial family, stamped with the Empress's seal.

Inside was an invitation written that made you feel like you were a bear that had only eaten sweet potatoes for a thousand years.

Want to read it?

[ To Princess Yvonne Argenthoz.

May the light of the great sun of Verbent be with Princess Yvonne.

Princess Yvonne Argenthoz is invited to be Crown Prince Adrian Luden Verbent's twenty-second birthday banquet partner.

May Princess Yvonne brighten the beautiful stage of our Verbent Imperial Family.

- Empress Giselle Cardin Verbent ]

Adrian's birthday banquet partner.

And there before me was a large gift box, sent by Empress Giselle herself, so that I could never take it off.

Inside the box were what appeared to be an expensive dress and shoes that were to be worn to the Crown Prince's birthday banquet.

The hem of the skirt, embroidered with a special, shimmering gold thread, was extravagant. This was a dress that could only be worn with royal permission.

In other words, it was a dress that only the Crown Prince's partner or members of the royal family could wear.

"Ugh..."

Looking at the dress again makes me feel so uncomfortable. I'm going crazy.

No, I hated it so much I almost turned away. The old Yvonne would have really wanted to wear this dress.

But now it's different.

But then, following Adrian, Empress Giselle also came out and made a fuss about why she was asking me to come to the party!

“I don’t want to go!”

Unable to bear it any longer, I threw a tantrum and tightly gripped the fan I was holding.

As the fan crumbled into nothingness, the employees nearby gasped and stepped back.

I threw the powdered fan on the floor and continued speaking to Duke Argenthoz, who listened to me seriously.

"Father, Crown Prince Adrian came to me personally to ask me to be his partner. But I firmly refused. His Highness understands."

“Oh, is that so?! Then don’t go, Yvonne!”

The Duke of Argenthoz's eyes sparkled, and he clapped his hands in agreement.

The two of us were laughing excitedly, thinking that the decision would be made not to go since the Duke told us not to go, but Liana, who had been standing quietly behind me, let out a short sigh and stepped forward.

“Excuse me, but may I ask you something?”

Liana said that her skin was much clearer and healthier than it was yesterday.

“You.... So, you said you were Yvonne’s secretary?”

“Yes. My name is Liana Rognier.”

"It's Rognier. So, what? What are you trying to say?"

Duke Argenthoz, who had heard of the Rognier family, hesitated for a moment, but then resumed his ferocious demeanor.

But Liana, who was not intimidated by his murderous gaze, stood up and spoke confidently despite his expression that said, "Who are you?"

“That is absolutely not allowed.”

"What?!"

Duke Argenthoz shouted in a loud, angry voice, but Liana didn't even blink.

“Princess must attend.”

“What?!”

'Li, Liana. This isn't normal, is it?'

She continued to answer steadfastly, without giving a second thought.

“Because it is an invitation from Her Majesty the Empress.”

Silence fell as Liana finished speaking. She looked around calmly and took a deep breath.

Wow. Liana looked like the perfect secretary in her neat blouse and navy skirt.

How could her skin condition be cured so quickly? I was so proud.

The effects of Rhodia grass were truly amazing.

'Oh, this is not the time to be impressed.'

As I was coming to my senses, Duke Argenthoz opened his mouth again and retorted.

"No, what's the problem if we don't like it? What if Yvonne gets sick that day? How can we go when we're sick? Are you telling us to carry a precious, sick Princess on our backs to the palace?!"

Duke Argenthoz was furious and yelled at Liana.

I feel a little sorry for Liana.

Liana didn't even invite me.

However, Liana looked at Duke Argenthoz calmly without any change in emotion and answered bluntly.

"Who would believe the Princess if she said she was sick? Even if she were seriously ill that day, she would have to be carried on a stretcher to the party."

"What...?"

Duke Agenthoz, as the lord of the magic tower, was stuck in the magic tower, so he probably didn't know the situation very well.

I felt uneasy as I saw his eyes widen in surprise.

Was there such a rule? There were so many social rules that I didn't have time to learn such trivial things.

Liana's eyes became more solemn.

"This is an invitation from Her Majesty the Empress, the very pinnacle of high society. You must attend."

“What if I break it?”

I, who had been silent until now, asked.

Liana's gaze turned to me.

She paused for a moment, then looked at me calmly and answered.

“It is the death penalty, Princess.”

Hey...

Isn't it a bit much to sentence someone to death for not attending that party?

It was absurd and ridiculous.

You can live comfortably even after detonating a bomb in the middle of the Nasiel district, but if you don't go to the party, you're going to be executed.

"Ha ha ha."

I ended up laughing out loud.

Then, Liana continued to explain in a soft voice, her hands clasped together politely.

It was absurd to call it a 'death penalty', but it meant that the Empress's orders could not be refused.

The Crown Prince's partner.

Moreover, he gave me a noble and special dress and even gave me shoes as a gift. I am a noble young lady who is not married and has no fiancé.

Where in the world would there be a young woman who would be sentenced to death for breaking such a law?

“Hey, Secretary Liana.”

It was such a true statement that I couldn't answer, so I kept my mouth shut like a mute who had eaten honey. Instead, Barden stepped forward to take my place.

Barden asked, frowning.

“Can you find the relevant laws and regulations that can prove this and bring them to me right now?”

“Of course, Little Duke.”

“Bring it.”

"Yes."

Liana bowed politely and quickly headed towards the library, which was filled with books in the Argenthoz mansion.

As she left, Barden turned to the Duke of Argenthoz and said:

"That secretary's words are probably true. Yvonne sent her to my room, and I briefly met her... She was truly a formidable woman. There was no law in this world she didn't know... She was the most exacting and persistent woman in the world."
