TMAHBF - Chapter 55

Just because Prince Cain says no, will I stop? The small, rare magic stone I was holding flew towards the demons.

The demons, sensing the magic, began to rampage like mad. The knights' corpses sprawled on the ground, trampled in an instant, leaving no trace.

Prince Cain screamed and tried to run away, but I stood in his way.

“You said you were going to kill these demons.”

“Get out of the way, you bitch!”

Prince Cain shoved me hard. I only stepped back slightly, but didn't fall. He didn't have time to feel hurt by my actions. He was too busy running away. The knight left here trembled and stared at me.

“Do you have any experience in combat with demons?”

“Oh, no, no.”

"Put your sword up. Unlike Prince Cain, you'll die if you run. But if you capture the demon, you might at least be spared for your efforts."

“Why on earth would you do something like this? Are you crazy?”

"No."

There was a reason for everything. I handed the knight his sword and slowly stepped back. The demons were gazing at us, wailing profusely. They seemed to be contemplating how best to kill us. I seized this opportunity to offer the knight some advice.

"Listen carefully. The four little ones are nothing. A cut with a sword will kill them in no time. But those two big ones have thick, tough necks, so it won't be easy. Their weak point is that if you put your hand inside when they open their mouths wide, you can stab them in the throat. If you succeed, they'll die before they can even close their mouths, so don't worry about losing your arms."

“Into the mouth, into the mouth, into the mouth...”

“Yeah. I think I heard you right.”

Having said that, I first took out my arrows and fired at the small demon. It was small and agile, so one arrow missed, but the rest were accurate.

I glanced back at the knight and said smugly.

“Yes, so there are only two left in a flash?”

“Uh, crazy person...”

Judging by the way he called the Grand Duchess crazy, he seemed to be out of his mind. However, perhaps because his chances of survival had improved, his grip on his sword tightened.

“If I’m really scared, I think it’d be better to lose an arm than die.”

With that said, I kicked my seat and stepped forward. I thought this explanation was enough. A knight should find his own way.

“If you can’t do that, then at least use bait!”

As I shouted that, the knight trembled and picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at the demon.

“Wow!”

It didn't look that great, but... it was a show of courage in its own way.

While one demon thumped and chased after him, I lunged at the other. I fired a few arrows, but they only pierced his thick hide, causing no harm.

Still, the last bullet landed squarely in its eye. When one eye is blinded, the blind spot increases accordingly.

I circled the demon, retreating further and further into its blind spot. The demon flailed its claws, irritated. Then, with a powerful swing of one arm, I leaped up and landed on its back.

The demon raised both arms above his head and clawed down my legs. It hurt, but I couldn't stop.

After placing my foot on the demon's crown, I thrust my sword downwards, almost thrusting my head into the beast's mouth. Failure meant death.

I closed my eyes tightly and pushed the sword deeper.

Ugh.

A spurt of bluish blood spurted onto my face, accompanied by a gasp. He'd been stabbed precisely.

I pulled my arm and face away from the demon's maw and spat out the blood that had entered my mouth. I wiped the blood from my eyes with my sleeve, and I saw the knight still running around, screaming.

Although he looked pitiful, he wasn't bad at running. I wanted to help him, but my leg was injured and I couldn't run.

“Run this way! This way!”

The knight heard my voice and turned around urgently to run towards me.

As the knight brushed past me and fled, the demon switched its target from the knight to me. It must have chosen the easier prey: a running prey or a still, blood-covered prey.

Now that there was only one, there was no need to prepare for a combined attack from the demonic beast. I decided to go with the same direct attack I would if I were facing the beast one-on-one.

The demon opened its mouth to devour me. Just as I was about to thrust my sword inside, I saw an arrow fly towards the side of the demon's head. The arrow lodged itself in the demon's throat, facing me directly.

What is this situation?

Before I could even finish my thought, the demon fell sideways, its mouth open, as if it had been pushed by the force of an arrow.

This demon's hide was so tough that no matter how many arrows were fired from the outside, they wouldn't penetrate. But this arrow clearly pierced the hide and entered precisely at the base of its neck.

I stared blankly at the demon. An arrow with a black band around its neck was embedded.

It wasn't Ruin. Ruin was incredibly strong for a boy his age, but that didn't mean he possessed unrealistic strength.

And I only knew one man with this much strength.

“Julian...”

I looked in the direction the arrow had come from. There, standing tall, was a man I knew well. His red eyes were more ferocious than ever, his mere presence a ferocious aura that seemed capable of drying out the surrounding bushes.

Julian strode toward me briskly. He didn't hesitate, but he didn't rush either. When he got so close, I couldn't even step back.

“Julian, this is...”

“Don’t say anything. I think I’ll get angry.”

Julian lowered his gaze and looked down at my legs. The demon's claws had dug deep into my trousers, tearing them and bleeding. Julian tried to remove his cloak, as if trying to cover me. I quickly stopped him.

“No!”

“Your clothes are all torn.”

“But taking off the cloak...”

Julian never took off his cloak. Even if he did, there was no need to worry about his bare arms being exposed, as he was wearing long-sleeved clothing.

But the clothes would curve in the shape of the magic stone, and people would snicker at the sight. I knew how much he would hate that. I didn't want him to take off his cloak because of me. But Julian frowned and said.

“Madam wants to do everything just as you want.”

“It was my fault... but that’s it!”

“Say it again. Don’t say anything.”

With that, Julian took off his cloak. The curves of the magic stone stood out on his white shirt. Fortunately, the light didn't seem to shine through.

I tried to stop him once more, but he wrapped his cloak around my shoulders. The cloak, long enough to cover Julian's entire body, was too large for me to handle.

“Stay still.”

Julian lifted me into his arms. Pain gripped my legs as they shook. I groaned and shrugged my shoulders, and Julian held me even more carefully. It was a stark contrast to his usual refusal to even look at me. I hugged Julian's neck and called out to him in a low voice.

“...Julian.”

But there was no answer. Seeing Julian's angry expression, my heart beat faster than when I'd thrust my face into the demon's mouth. I knew Julian would be angry. He was a caring and concerned man.

But I never expected him to be this angry. I felt guilty for trying to proceed without Julian's knowledge. But even if I could go back in time, I would make the same choice. This plan absolutely required me to get hurt.

After Julian had placed me on his horse, he too climbed onto the horse's back to climb aboard.

“Your, Your Highness! Your Highness, the Grand Duchess!”

The knight who had been running away in panic earlier called out to us, sobbing. Julian tried to ignore him, but I grabbed his hand.

I shook my head slightly, facing him. Fortunately, Julian waited for the knight. I looked down at him from my horse and asked.

“What’s going on?”

“Please save me.”

He knew I'd say that. The knight now had to choose sides: the scoundrel Prince who had abandoned him, or the mad Grand Duchess who had at least saved his life.

“If I go back like this, won’t I die?”

He was right. The knight had conspired with Prince Cain. If things had worked out well, it might have been different, but now they were a complete mess.

He couldn't have predicted how things would turn out. Prince Cain, being a Prince by any means, might live, but his subordinates were different.

Even if he was lucky enough to survive, if he returned to Prince Cain's side, he knew he'd be kicked out for failing to properly handle the situation. Either way, it was a bad ending.

“Madam, hurry before the wound gets deeper.”

Julian urged me to decide quickly whether to kill him or let him live. Not wanting to provoke his anger any further, I hurriedly asked.

“Do you have the guts to betray Prince Cain?”

Then the knight's face turned pale. Judging by the trembling of his lips, he still seemed to be in a state of mental turmoil. I could feel the blood flowing from my legs, and my patience was running out.

“Go, Julian.”

As soon as I spoke, Julian immediately mounted his horse. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled the reins. The knight blocked his horse's path and knelt. His head fell to the ground in a flash.

“Ha, I will do it! I will do anything!”

This knight, who had deliberately pretended to kick Prince Cain's foot in front of him, was also very quick to change ships. I smiled with satisfaction and said,

“What is your name?”
