TMAHBF - Chapter 20

Julian lifted me up. I felt bad for always relying on him, but I didn't want to break away.

Is this really okay? I wanted to lean on him, even though guilt held me back.

“Madam, you already cut off that bastard’s finger, so cutting off his arm is nothing.”

When I heard that, I couldn't help but laugh.

Julian put me on the bed. He tried to get up, so I grabbed his hand.

It was the hand he hated, of all hands. He tried to wrestle it away, but I held on tighter with both hands.

Julian, who had been hesitating, soon quietly extended his hand to me.

“Julian, stay here until I fall asleep.”

"...Yes."

“If you just leave, I’ll break the mirror again.”

“That’s difficult. There aren’t many people in our mansion.”

“Right?”

I closed my eyes with a faint smile. Julian's hand intertwined with mine. His large hand was a complete burden to hold, but I didn't want to let go.

Time with him was always comfortable. He was so quiet, it seemed like he always carried the night.

I stretched out and tried to sleep. Anger still simmered within me, but it felt like I was falling asleep in front of him.

A while later, as I was beginning to faintly lose consciousness, Julian gazed at me and briefly kissed my forehead. It was a kiss so sweet that, had I not been so drowsy, my face would have flushed bright red.

“...Did you love Kaiser so much that you were so angry?”

But what came next made me even more angry.

I had to clear up the misunderstanding, but I didn't know how to wake up from my deep sleep, and Julian fell deeper and deeper into the swamp.

“Ah, ma’am. It hurts. Ma’am, ma’am...!”

"Hold on. This can't be done. Anna, come out. I'll do it."

“No! It’ll, it’ll break...!”

Marian cried out desperately, but I pushed Anna away and grabbed the corset straps. I placed my feet on Marian's back and pulled hard on them. Marian cried out in pain.

After much wrestling, Marian's waist became so tight that she couldn't even eat a single piece of bread. Wearing a dress that fit her ridiculous waist size, Marian's figure looked unrealistic, like a painting.

“Look in the mirror.”

As I grabbed Marian's shoulder and led her to the mirror, she grumbled. It seemed she, too, had become much more comfortable with me. She looked down at her waist and shuddered.

“My waist is so thin it’s embarrassing.”

“Men are stupid, they just like thin women.”

When I spoke confidently, both Marian and Anna fell silent. It was a sign of agreement. Men simply enjoyed the way they popped in and out. We also inserted implants into Marian's breasts and buttocks as naturally as possible.

“Yes. You look like a real witch right now.”

“Thanks for the compliment, phew.”

Marian let out a long sigh, as if she was out of breath.

Finally, she put a rather plain mask over her face, completely obscuring it. Marian was beautiful enough, but covering her face only made her look more unrealistic, adding to the illusion of a fantastical face.

It would have been even better if the mask had been more ornate and beautiful, but Marian was now playing the role of a persecuted maid to me. How could I possibly gift her a mask that would make her stand out more than me?

Today's Marian was destined to become such a beautiful woman, despite not being treated well.

Today, I planned to leave Anna behind and take Marian as my maid, so I saw her off for the first time in a while. Beside Anna, Duke, our mansion's mascot, was wearing a sullen expression.

Duke was the name of a dog that had recently become part of our family. It was a name that came to mind after seeing Princess Abigail's outburst at the sight of the dog. He lived in the Grand Duke's residence, so the Duke. I liked the name.

I stroked Duke's chin and soothed him with a short tongue-lashing.

"I'll be right back, Duke. Yes? Oh, my poor baby."

I hugged the Duke tightly once and walked to the carriage. Before getting into the carriage, I glanced up at the mansion. I saw that the window I was looking at was half-open.

I smiled and waved. Something shook inside the window. I couldn't see clearly, but I could tell it was Julian. If he were the butler, he would have bowed instead of waved.

“You two are such a wonderful couple. It feels like you got married for love.”

Marian said as she followed me into the carriage.

I just laughed because it didn't sound bad.

***

The Marchioness of Eriant welcomed me even more warmly than last time. She smiled brightly and kissed my cheek lightly.

"Thank you for accepting my invitation. I was so sad you left the party early last time. This time, please make sure to stay until the very end."

I had to leave early from the last party. With Kaiser's blood on my heels, I couldn't move around freely.

Besides, it wasn't easy to talk to people because they would hiss and slowly back away whenever I approached them.

But after I left, the party was said to be a huge success. Everyone was busy chatting about me, without a single dull moment. I must have seemed quite charming to the party-loving Marchioness of Eriant.

“I am honored that you invited me to the party.”

"Haha, Your Highness, the Grand Duchess of Duchzan speaks so beautifully. Hmm, but what about you?"

The Marchioness turned her attention to Marian, who stood behind me, yet was clearly revealing herself. She asked me this question even though she knew I had brought her here as a maid.

I pretended to look at Marian with disapproval, but smiled noticeably when I looked at Madame.

"She's my maid. I brought her with me because there was so much to see and learn. What other party could be more elegant than the Marchioness's?"

Although I spoke in a noble tone, it ultimately meant that h8 had brought her here to make people laugh.

The Marchioness of Eriant, who immediately understood my intention, unfolded her fan, laughed heartily, and led me inside.

People's reactions were not much different from what I expected.

"Look at Her Highness the Grand Duchess of Duchzan's maid. Judging by her face, it seems the rumors are true."

“Oh my, look at that thin waist. It looks like she hasn’t had a proper meal.”

“Her Highness the Grand Duchess of Duchzan is too cruel to be the daughter of an honorable Margrave family.”

"Cruel, huh? If I were you, I'd boil that government in water."

"Rather, it's possible because she's the daughter of a noble family. How humiliating that must have been."

“Look at that witchy figure. Even with a mask, her beauty doesn’t fade.”

Accusations poured in both on me and on Marian.

I listened to all of this while being attended to by Marian. She, struggling to move, handed me a glass of champagne and some snacks. I leaned against the table and enjoyed the food.

I deliberately stood in the center of the party hall, placing Marian in a prominent position. She held on, her back tense.

And soon after, the guest I had been waiting for entered the party hall.

Like Princess Abigail, he possessed striking features and silver hair with a hint of purple. While his beauty rivaled that of Princess Abigail, his arrogant expression was even more sinister.

If Princess Abigail had even a modicum of elegance, this man looked more like a nobleman, a thug, than a royal.

Prince Cain lifted his handsome head and glanced around. He was crazy about having fun, but his favorite pastime was seducing innocent women at parties.

Prince Cain, who was like that, could not have ignored the rumors about Marian. She was as beautiful as, or perhaps even more beautiful than, Ari Eriant, whom he had already acquired. He must have been moved.

As expected, Prince Cain immediately looked around as soon as he appeared here and soon found us.

His gaze swept over me, then slowly shifted to Marian. Then, with a smile on his lips, he walked straight towards us.

“Grand Duchess Duchzan.”

I greeted him with a startled expression. I tried to act as if I didn't know anything, but seeing his brazen face filled me with uncontrollable anger, and my expression hardened slightly.

“Your Highness, the Second Prince, I greet you.”

“Do you know me?”

“How could I not recognize one of the Empire's shining suns? It is an honor to meet you.”

“Unlike her husband, Grand Duchess Duchzan is clever.”

It was something I heard Julian say, because he couldn't possibly flatter a man like that. I smiled and thought, "What a fool he is."

The foolish man still couldn't take his eyes off Marian's body. I wanted to block his path at any moment, but that would ruin my plan.

Marian had also been told firmly not to interfere with this plan.

I introduced myself, following the Second Prince's gaze and acting as if I was being tactful.

“This is my maid, Marian.”

Everyone's ears perked up at those words. No one in the room had ever seen Marian in person, and with her wearing a mask, they must have wondered if it really was her.

In that situation, when they confirmed that she was the 'real' Marian, the curious eyes of those present gathered even more.

And at my words, the Second Prince's eyes lit up. "Marian," a beauty even more beautiful than Ari Eriant, the Empire's most beautiful woman. As he became certain it was Marian, his eyes filled with a filthy greed.

“Why did you put a mask on the maid?”

“Because this child’s face... looks so stupid.”

I frowned slightly, as if jealous of Marian's appearance and disliking it. It was the image men could easily imagine: a woman whose first wife envies her government. Prince Cain nodded, as if he understood.

“I see. Yes.”

My performance must have been quite effective, as Prince Cain stepped aside. And then we slowly, without anyone noticing, moved. To a table slightly to the left of the center, then to the table above...

So I gradually retreated to the outskirts of the hallway and left Marian alone to go somewhere else.

Not long after, I saw the Second Prince's attendant approaching Marian politely, and I smiled quietly.
