TBDNS - Chapter 148

Episode 148. Leana and Maurice

Kwaang!

“Welcome, Maurice Etermati!”

Christine burst through the door.

His sword was bleeding like a living beast.

“It is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty.”

Maurice took a step back and bowed his head exaggeratedly.

At the same time, the blue light surrounding Maurice and the priests transformed into a transparent, huge barrier.

“The priests’ defense shield!”

Kenny shouted as he stepped back.

‘It’s as great as I’ve heard!’

Kenny felt breathless just by being close.

More than anything, Maurice must have used up a lot of mana today. And yet, he was able to create such a powerful defense shield.

It was a powerful magic that Kenny’s ability could never break.

However, Christine swung his sword and rushed toward the defense shield.

“Your Majesty!”

Crackle!

As the sword flew as fast as a hawk, a tremendous force was added, and a sound of wind tearing was heard.

He stabbed the sword into the small gap right before the shield closed.

Kwajijik!

The shield’s energy collided with the sword’s energy, sparks were created, and a sound of shattering was heard.

Christine’s hand holding the sword trembled as he fought against the magic of Maurice and the priests. His feet were also being pushed back little by little.

“Help His Majesty!”

Kenny, who had lost his mind for a moment, encouraged the magicians and poured mana into the gap in the shield.

“Focus on prayer!”

Maurice shouted at the priests with all his might, and Kenny also shouted,

“Pull up the mana!”

In the meantime, Christine gritted his teeth and thrust the sword deeper. Blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth, perhaps because he had been wounded by the priests’ magic.

Kkiririk! Squeak! Squeak!

Then, the barrier that had been like a bluff began to crack, and then, Paaat! It finally shattered into pieces.

Now, Christine’s sword was unstoppable. He rushed in and cut down the priests in one breath, then swung his sword fiercely at Maurice.

Shukaak! Phuong!

Maurice also dodged by shooting attack magic at him. However, it seemed difficult to recite the spell in the fast and rough attacks that continued without stopping.

“You’re still tough, Your Majesty.”

Maurice laughed as he barely managed to climb onto the windowsill. However, his shoulders were panting as he was out of breath. Christine wiped the blood off his sword and let out a mad laugh.

“When I see you, I’m boiling with murderous intent!”

Shukaak! As he swung his sword down, Maurice quickly flew onto the turquoise roof. Christine also stepped onto the windowsill and jumped onto the roof.

***

The two now stood side by side on the rooftop of the mansion. The shadows of dark clouds loomed low over their heads. The once clear sky seemed to be about to rain.

“I heard that you suffer whenever you think of a woman named Adele? If something goes wrong with her, it would be a big deal.”

Christine’s face hardened slightly. Adele? Maurice slyly played with his tongue, not wanting to miss that opportunity.

“You’ve completely forgotten about Madame Isabelle. You wonder where she is and what she’s doing now...”

That’s right. He had completely forgotten about Isabelle. That clever woman wouldn’t just let this opportunity pass. Damn it!

In that moment, a brief smile crossed Maurice’s lips, and with a soft spell, “...!” he turned into a white bird and flew into the air. At the same time, Christine kicked off the roof and jumped up, swinging her sword.

Shukaak!

The sword, engulfed in blue energy, cut off the bird’s wing.

“...!”

The surprised Maurice hurriedly used defensive magic, but bang! His wings were torn off by a terrifying sword aura, and white feathers scattered everywhere.

Kuung!

Maurice, who had returned to his original body, fell onto the roof and rolled down the slope. He barely stopped when he was blocked by a chimney at the end of the roof.

“Kuuk!”

He barely managed to lean against the chimney while spitting out blood.

Thud, thud.

Christine, who had come in front of him, aimed his sword at the nape of Maurice’s neck.

The sword, engulfed in merciless sword energy, seemed ready to rip off his neck.

“Maurice, if you had knelt, I would have spared you. It was before you killed so many people.”

Maurice stared at Christine with blurry eyes.

His white priest’s robe was dyed red with blood, and the blood he had shed flowed down the roof.

“A priest of God does not kneel carelessly, Your Majesty.”

“Do you really believe that your god exists?”

They had persecuted and executed the wolf clan all along, saying that it was God’s will.

However, they had only blamed their own sins and greed on God.

“God originally exists as faith. Or a strong desire can create a god.”

“Yes, I will send him to that god!”

It was when Christine raised his sword high.

“Leave him to me, Your Majesty!”

Ss... Her face was as pale as a sheet of paper, and red ancient words were engraved all over her body except her face.

“Leana?”

“That is... resting in a safe place with the Countess. I don’t think she can use magic anymore.”

She seemed to know why Kenny didn’t go into detail about Leana’s condition.

“...Are you okay?”

Leana smiled brightly.

“Of course. Adele is down there, too. And I have something to talk to him, so please step aside for a moment.”

Christine stubbornly refused.

“I heard you can’t use magic. I can’t leave you alone to deal with that guy.”

But Leana stubbornly shook her head.

“You just saw me use magic. Take everyone out of Oswald’s house in ten minutes.”

“What are you talking about?”

Instead of answering, Leana closed her eyes and began to recite a spell softly.

"...”

The air gradually swirled, and red ancient words began to appear in the air. It soon wrapped around Maurice and Leana. Leana opened her eyes slightly and smiled.

“Tell her that Adele’s apple pie was always the best. Be happy, you two.”

Christine shouted with a chilling foreboding.

“What are you doing, Leana! Stop it!”

But before long, the red ancient words had tightly wrapped around Leana and Maurice, and a whirlwind began to suck in the surrounding air.

Whirlwind... Whirlwind...

It wrapped around the feathers of the birds that had fallen on the roof, sucked in the leaves in all directions, and even the birds flying in the sky were swept in. Soon, it grew so large that it seemed as if it would suck in the dark clouds and all the air.

“Leana! Come out, I command you!”

Christine shouted, but even his voice was sucked in and disappeared.

***

Boom!

Christine quickly jumped down to the garden. The people inside the mansion also came out and looked up at the sky at the ominous atmosphere.

“Your Majesty!”

He turned around at the familiar voice. It was Adele. Her hair was disheveled, and she looked tired, but she was fine. He ran over and hugged her with all his might. Only then did he feel the tension melt away as he felt the familiar scent and touch.

“Leanna?”

He looked up at Oswald’s high rooftop. Where Leanna and Maurice had been, a whirlwind of red ancient words and countless leaves tangled together was blowing. The whirlwind grew stronger and larger, and it seemed as if it would soon swallow up the mansion.

“Maurice and Leana have something to talk about alone.”

“Ah, Leana..."

Adele muttered, swallowing back tears. Christine shouted to the people around him.

“Everyone, get out of the mansion! Now!”

Then he put Adele on his horse and jumped on its back.

“Hyah!”

With him in the lead, Jennifer’s unit, Paul, Kenny, and the wizards left the mansion one after another.

Doo doo doo doo!

Hundreds of horses galloped down the forest path, kicking up white dust. Just as Oswald was about to turn off the road leading to the mansion.

Kwaaaaang!

The horses, startled by the loud thunder, lifted their front legs and trotted loudly.

“Whoa, whoa!”

When Christine finally calmed his horses and turned around, the Oswald mansion was engulfed in flames and dust as if it had exploded.

“Ah! Leanna...!”

He held Adele tightly, swallowing his own tears.

Knock. Knock.

The sky, which had been filled with rain clouds, finally began to shed raindrops.

At that moment, Kenny approached cautiously.

“Your Majesty, Lady Isabelle has moved her troops to the Castler mansion. Judging by my crystal ball, it looks like about five hundred armed troops are surrounding the mansion.”

Christine felt like he had been hit in the head with something.

“You must have completely forgotten Lady Isabel.”

Was that what Maurice had said?

Damn it, Isabelle!

“What should we do? Your Majesty! There should only be Mark and the children there right now!”

Christine consoled Adele, who was sobbing in shock.

“I have placed the WG knights on standby nearby, so they should be able to hold out until we get there.”

In fact, there were only about ten of them.

They just hoped that they would hold out until they arrived.

***

“Your Majesty!”

When Christine and Adele arrived at Castle Street, Zimmer came running.

Fortunately, Zimmer’s unit, having heard the news, arrived first.

“So, what happened?”

Christine asked urgently as he jumped off his horse.

However, Zimmer’s expression was not bright.

“We were a step too late. Isabelle’s troops have already surrounded the mansion, and the people inside are being held hostage.”

Christine stared at the mansion.

The mansion, connected to Adele’s bakery, was on a busy street.

However, there were no people around. Everyone was scared by the wolf clan’s rampage and was hiding in their homes.

Whoosh!

The rain was falling in the middle of the day, but there was not a single person in sight, making the streets eerie.

And Isabelle’s soldiers were tightly surrounding the mansion, which had a tightly closed iron gate.

After a while, Isabelle appeared behind the iron gate.

She was wearing a black dress like a mourning dress and holding a black umbrella.

Then she spoke calmly to Christine.

“I want to talk, Your Majesty. I think women would be better at talking.”

She meant to talk to Adele.

“Good. I think I have a lot to talk to Lady Isabelle, too.”

When Adele came forward, Christine pulled her hand.

Adele smiled as if telling him not to worry.

“Don’t worry, Your Majesty. If she were in her right mind, she wouldn’t dare do something like this.”

“If she were in her right mind, she wouldn’t dare do something like this.”

Adele thought the same. Isabelle now seemed to be in a very desperate situation. The more she felt that way, the more she shouldn’t provoke her rashly.

There were children inside the castle.

“Trust me. I’ll bring them all out safely.”

Christine looked at Adele with a stern expression for a moment.

"Please come back safely.”

“Of course. I’ll bring them all back right away.”

Christine gritted his teeth as he watched Adele smiling as she gently lifted the hem of her skirt.

He had thought that there was no such thing as God, but at that moment, he wanted to pray with all his heart if there really was one.

To save her and the children.

Leaving him behind, Adele quietly walked toward the front gate.

Whoosh!

The raindrops grew heavier as if they were going to obliterate Adele's appearance.
