IWAEBS - Chapter 212 < The Imprint is by the Hand of the Villain >

“No, Your Majesty!”

Nancy hurriedly blocked Roxana’s whip-raising hand with both hands.

“How insolent, Nancy. Get out of my way!”

“Even though their country is treated as a vassal state of the Lapion Empire, she is the Princess of the kingdom.”

Nancy glanced down at Princess Resilia, who was trembling with fright, and whispered to Roxana.

“Your Majesty, if you are not careful...”

Roxana knew the unfinished story Nancy had left behind.

Princess Resilia had brought her to the Empress’s palace under the pretext of ruining Zelda’s wedding dress. She couldn’t carelessly touch the Princess without evidence.

The ministers could criticize her as Empress, and the relationship between the two countries could deteriorate rapidly because of her actions.

But she couldn’t contain her boiling anger.

The 300-year-old wyvern egg she'd cherished since childhood was stolen.

And that wasn't all?

To awaken the wyvern egg and become the master of the Avatar Sword, she artificially consumed the red potion.

As a result, she suffered from a fever, one of the side effects, and nearly died. She might finally be able to wield the Avatar Sword!

But it was stolen before she could even use it properly.

All her hard work and sacrifice had gone down the drain overnight.

And on top of that, a fire burned the right side of her face...

Roxana's anger was even fiercer than the flames in the dressing room the night before.

Slap!

Instead of swinging her whip, Roxana slapped Princess Resilia's cheek with her hand.

"Hah!"

The Princess, unable to hold herself up from a single slap, fell to the floor.

Roxana believed that Princess Resilia was the cause of all this trouble.

Yesterday afternoon, after the Princess visited the Empress's palace, all these misfortunes must have begun.

'It's all your fault that I got burned on my face!'

According to the doctor who had been secretly brought in from the capital by Adjutant Palto, Hetor's right-hand man, last night,

'I can help you heal the burn quickly, but the scar is beyond my ability...'

The burn scar on the right side of her face was beyond treatment with ordinary medicine.

If she wanted to hide the scar, even temporarily, she had no choice but to regularly administer magic potions.

"If it weren't for your siblings, I wouldn't have had to go into the dressing room, and the fire wouldn't have started. My face wouldn't be in this state!"

"...What on earth are you talking about? I don't understand a single thing!"

Princess Resilia cried out in fear.

"I'll ask again. Where did you put the wyvern egg and the incarnation sword? Do they belong to your brother, Prince Tesla?"

“I, I really don’t know anything! I only heard that he was in Your Majesty the Empress’s bedroom, and I really don’t know what happened after that, huhuhu...!”

Roxana quietly looked down at Princess Resilia’s tear-stained face.

Princess Resilia’s heart sank at Roxana’s cold gaze.

‘Did my brother really steal the wyvern egg and the Avatar Sword?’

If Roxana’s words were true, it would all be her fault.

‘How could my brother just let things go like this?!’

Princess Resilia clenched her weak fists.

Distrust and resentment toward Prince Tesla began to sprout.

“Your Majesty, please believe me! You shouldn’t be doing this to me; you should meet my brother! I really don’t know anything!”

She had to live.

Emperor Linel had personally handed her over to Roxana, so if she hesitated, she might be whipped to death in the secret underground chamber of the Empress’s palace without anyone knowing.

The Kingdom of Shattonil had been treated as a vassal state of the Lapion Empire, and its status had fallen even further since the Continental Hunting Tournament.

Therefore, Roxana, now Empress of the Lapion Empire, seemed to have little to worry about in dealing with one of the kingdom's Princesses.

Just looking at Roxana's murderous face now, it wasn't an exaggeration at all.

The fear that was surging through Princess Resilia was making her mind go blurry.

"...Your Majesty, the Princess seems to have fainted."

Nancy knelt on the floor, checking on Princess Resilia, who had collapsed limply.

"Tsk, what did I do to make her faint? Just lock her in the secret room."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Roxana put the veil back on and climbed the underground stairs.

Hetor was waiting for her at the entrance to the secret room.

"What happened?"

“We need to find a wizard who can make a magic potion.”

Hetor said, lifting her veil.

“I haven’t found the wyvern egg or the Avatar Sword yet.”

Roxana slapped Hetor’s hand away, annoyed.

“Your burns need to be treated first. I’ll meet the Magic Tower Master later.”

Hetor whispered, his expression filled with concern.

“No Bellos.”

Roxana shook her head.

“He’s the one Zelda’s target right now. And he’s the original owner of the Avatar Sword. He must know I have it. And you’re entrusting my burn scars to someone like that?”

“Hmm, I see. So what are you planning to do?”

She couldn’t hide her burn scars behind her veil forever.

“We’ll have to use Logan again.”

Now that she thought about it, Logan’s daughter, Bonis, was nowhere to be found among the group that had left with Zelda.

Seeing as Zelda had also lost her memories of the Emperor, Bonis must have given Zelda the potion she had given her.

But why didn't Bonis return to the palace with them?

"Hetor, find out about Bonis's whereabouts."

***

Unlike state weddings, there was no reception at the harem ceremony.

Furthermore, the atmosphere at the harem ceremony was extremely gloomy because the concubines from the Principality of Aklatto were unable to hold the ceremony due to a sudden accident.

After the harem ceremony, Linel headed straight to the main palace for the rest of the day.

Since we had planned to meet tonight, we didn't feel too sad about parting.

Sharon and I boarded the Empress's carriage sent by Roxana in front of the chapel and headed to our assigned new quarters.

According to Roxana's attendant, who had come to guide us, my belongings from the main palace had already been sent to my new quarters.

"Now that you're an official concubine, did she move your belongings from the Empress's palace and even send a carriage?"

Sharon asked innocently.

At first glance, it seemed like Roxana's consideration, but it couldn't be true.

“Moving my luggage was just an excuse. She ordered her entourage to thoroughly search the room I was staying in for wyvern eggs or the Incarnation Sword.”

That must have been their motive.

So, by the time the concubine ceremony was held, all my belongings would have already been moved to the new quarters.

“Well, she did take Princess Resilia, but we’re probably suspicious too.”

Yeah. Now, all I have to do is move Prince Tesla...

I nodded to Sharon and thought to myself,

“But will Moiya and Moni be able to get the Incarnation Sword without being detected? I’m so worried.”

Sharon asked quietly, her face filled with anxiety.

I told them to fetch the Incarnation Sword from the training grounds’ weapons storage in the cypress forest.

Moiya and Moni each took on the bodies of escort knights and headed to the training grounds as soon as the concubine ceremony was over.

Since only knights could carry swords without arousing suspicion from the other court ladies, it was an inevitable choice. Even if I don't tell them where the new location is, they said they could find out where it is, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

"I said I'd let they eat as many sausages as they want if they safely bring the Incarnation Sword back, so they won't go elsewhere."

I chuckled, looking at the box of sausages Sharon placed on her lap.

I'd asked Rosie to get the sausages for me in advance, and I received them as a celebratory gift after the concubine ceremony.

"But I really don't want the Incarnation Sword in Prince Tesla's hands."

Sharon was displeased with my half-heard plan.

"It's okay, the Incarnation Sword will return to me."

If the Incarnation Sword is properly imprinted on me...

I didn't particularly like having the evil do it, but it was the only way to gain various advantages.

About that method... I couldn't bring myself to tell Sharon in advance.

I knew she'd jump up and try to stop me.

After a while, the carriage slowly came to a stop.

"I guess we've arrived."

As Sharon prepared to get out of the carriage with a voice full of anticipation, the carriage door opened first.

“This is it. This is the residence Her Majesty the Empress has carefully chosen, so I hope Your Highness Zelda will like it too.”

Sharon snorted and snorted at Roxana’s servant’s polite words.

“Why, this building was practically abandoned!”

“So the servants must have had a hard time cleaning it. And since it has a new owner today, shouldn’t you say that?”

The servant replied with a sly smile.

“W-what?”

Sharon’s face turned red, and the wind from her nose blew against my face.

Surprisingly, the residence I was assigned was the building right in front of the blacksmith shop.

“Tell Her Majesty the Empress that I appreciate her consideration. And be sure to tell her that it suits my tastes perfectly.”

I looked at the blacksmith shop near my quarters with a pleased smile and said to Roxana’s servant.

“...Yes? Oh, yes. I will.”

The servant looked quite flustered at my smiling face.

“I will see my quarters on my own, so you may proceed to the Empress’s Palace.”

“Well, then, I will be leaving now. Make yourself at home, Your Highness.”

Roxana’s servant nodded to me with a bewildered expression and climbed back in beside the coachman.

“This is an insult!”

Sharon shouted, looking up at the quarters as the carriage pulled away.

“How could you lower the building right in front of the blacksmith shop into the quarters of the Emperor’s concubines? This is absolutely ridiculous!”

“Sharon, I like it here.”

“Yes? Are you kidding?”

“Seriously. A blacksmith shop so close to the Emperor’s palace! Isn’t that so romantic?”

Sharon's mouth dropped open as I glared at the blacksmith.

"I could visit the blacksmith every day, and if I asked Count Ethan, I could even forge a sword myself, right?"

Just the thought made my hands itch.

The heat surging inside me and the hot weather were painful, but other than that, artificial fire had no effect on me.

In fact, I could use the flames to my advantage.

I'd seen that in the fire in the Empress's dressing room last night.

"It's far from the main palaces, so it might be a bit of a hassle for Prince Tesla to visit."

"But would he really come all the way here?"

"If he hears I have the Avatar Sword, he'll come. If he doesn't, then he's not Prince Tesla."

"He'd come to save his sister, right?"

"Sharon, you don't know Prince Tesla yet. Do you think he'd give the Avatar Sword to Roxana?"

"Would he really be so trashy as to abandon his own sister?"

I nodded without hesitation at Sharon's question.

"If he's that cruel, I think it's too dangerous to bring him here."

"That's why I brought him here."

I grinned and entered the quarters with Sharon.

When we reached the bedroom floor, two knights stood at the door.

The sight of the knights, who should have been facing each other, made me laugh.

It was Moiya and Moni.

"You brought the proper items, right?"

Sharon approached the two knights and spoke quietly.

"You prepared a hefty price, didn't you?"

Moiya asked Sharon secretly.

"Of course."

"...Let's all go inside, let's stop this here."

I pushed the three of us back into the bedroom.

The Incarnation Sword was sheathed in the scabbard of the knight Moiya had transformed into.

Moiya pointed to the sword's hilt and complained.

"It was hard to keep covering this red jewel with your hand, Moiya~."

"Ugh! I tried to pull it out, but it just wouldn't come out, Moni~."

The grumbling guys opened the box of sausages Sharon had handed them and jumped for joy.

“Good job, everyone,”

I said, playing with the tip of the blade of the Incarnation Sword.

A few hours later, Moiya and Moni, who had returned to their normal selves, were hungry and insisted on going to Rosie’s quarters to get more sausages.

Sharon, instead of going to Rosie’s quarters, had made it a point not to come into my bedroom tonight.

Moni asked why, but Moiya explained to Sharon.

“It’s mating day.”

“Aha, I know humans usually mate at night, Moni~.”

It was funny how Moni immediately agreed.

As the two guys transformed into butterflies and flew out the window, Sharon became busy.

“Oh my, it’s already this late. I’ll hurry up and get ready for the bath!”

“Yes, please.”

I opened the window and looked out at the already dark night sky.

***

“Are you ready to welcome the Emperor?”

Linel was leaning against the door, holding a wine bottle in one hand and two upside-down wine glasses in the other.

My eyes were drawn to his disheveled attire, his shirt undone to his navel.

"How do I look? Do you think I'm ready?"

I greeted him, briefly lifting the hem of my half-dressed skirt.

"It looks perfect."

He smiled contentedly and slowly walked towards the bed.

“I’ll... move you.”

“Just do it!”

“What?”

“I like it here. So just stay still, I’m not saying you should stay still tonight.”

“Then... should we start with a kiss, or a hug?”

“Let’s start with the wine you’re holding.”

I said, getting down from the bed.

Linel handed me a glass and poured it.

“For our wedding night.”

“It’s not strictly speaking our first night.”

I clinked my glass with his and smiled faintly.

“Since our real first night has faded from our memories, let’s consider today our first night.”

“Right. But... what do you think our first night was like?”

“I would have welcomed you warmly. How considerate would I have been, as an Empress from a foreign land?”

“Yes, I think so. I would have been as affectionate as I am now...”

While I completely agreed with him, something felt off, so I trailed off.

Was my subconscious understanding something different?

I was about to take a sip of wine.

“I’ll give it to you.”

Linel drank his wine and then kissed me.

The wine flowed between his lips, cooling my mouth.

I closed my eyes.

The wine he offered and the refreshing sensation quickly made me feel tipsy.

Then, sensing something strange, I slowly opened my eyes.
